  • BREAKING: Terrorists finally release abducted Kaduna-Abuja train passengers

The Terrorists who attacked Kaduna-Abuja bound train on March 28, have finally released some of the captives after almost three months in captivity.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls the terrorists bombed parts of the rail track, forcing the train to derail, and opened fire on the passengers, killing nine and whisking away 62 persons including children and 82 years grand woman.

After spending about 74 days in the den of the captors, six females and five male captives were released on Saturday after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government.

The terrorists had threatened to start killing the victims if the Federal Government refused to negotiate with them.

According to sources, the terrorists released the male captives on health grounds and women who are among the vulnerable as part of the agreement reached with the abductors.

It says, all the abducted women are expected to be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women they initially agreed to release because the Nigerian Government had demanded that they include those with life-threatening injuries among the released.

Some relatives of the abducted passengers say that they have been expecting the release of the captives noting that they have not been briefed of the recent development.

Recalled that on March 28th attack, the terrorists had released two people, one of the victims, are Managing Director of Bank of Agriculture Alwan Hassan, who was said to have paid about N100million and later, a pregnant woman who was released out of compassion.

Earlier, the terrorists had demanded the release of eight of their children said to have been in the custody of the Federal Government.

  • Terrorist groups ‘exploiting power vacuums’, UN chief warns

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that while the number of deaths from terrorism has declined, the overall threat is far from over particularly in Africa as they exploit power vacuums.

Guterres said this while addressing the latest meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact, which brings together UN agencies, Member States and other partners in New York on Wednesday.

The terrorism threat to Africa is increasing, he told participants.

Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 48 per cent of deaths attributed to terrorist groups globally inn 2021.

“Groups like Al-Qaida, Da’esh and their affiliates are continuing to grow in the Sahel and make inroads into Central and Southern Africa.

“They are exploiting power vacuums, longstanding inter-ethnic strife, internal weaknesses and state fragilities,” he said.

In conflict-affected countries, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya and Somalia, terrorism has intensified cycles of violence, fuelling further instability, undermining peace efforts, and setting back development goals.

Meanwhile, in largely peaceful countries, such as Mozambique and Tanzania, terrorists are now seeking to exploit and manipulate societal grievances and mistrust in governments.

Despite these challenges, Guterres was convinced that progress is possible, based on his visit to Borno State in northern Nigeria in May.

Formerly a stronghold of the extremist group Boko Haram, the region is now on the road to reconciliation and reintegration.

“I was so impressed by the meeting I had with former fighters in one of the centres, with the meetings I had with victims and with this sense that Boko Haram, that was born in Borno State, is now clearly losing ground.

“It is losing ground because the people have assumed largely, themselves, the capacity to undermine the work and the terrorist actions of Boko Haram,” he said.

The secretary-general stressed that the international community cannot effectively address terrorism without tackling the conditions conducive to its spread, such as weak institutions, inequalities, poverty, hunger, and injustice.

The UN’s Counter Terrorism Strategy takes an integrated and holistic approach to the issue, which calls for investing in health, education, protection, gender equality and justice systems accessible to all.

“It means creating truly democratic systems and processes, so every person can have a voice in the future of their communities and countries – and trust that their voices will be heard and reflected.

“It means placing human rights and rule of law as the foundation of our work,” he said.

Guterres said the UN Counter-Terrorism Compact would continue to support countries in their counter-terror efforts, including through technical assistance, capacity-building, and in helping to build institutions that focus on people and are grounded in human rights and the rule of law.

The Compact is the largest coordination framework across the UN’s three pillars of work: peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights and humanitarian affairs.

It was developed following the establishment of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in June 2017, considered the Secretary-General’s first major institutional reform after taking office that January.

CAN describes Owo church killing as wicked, barbaric

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described the killing of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday as barbaric and wicked.

Rev. Anselm Ologunwa, the Chairman of CAN in the state, in a statement on Sunday in Akure, condemned the attack.

“The killing of some innocent souls in the name of whichever guise is the highest criminality everybody should rise up and condemn in our society.

“How can some people just wake up from no where and decide to kill their fellow men unjustly without any recourse to the judgement of God,” he said.

Ologunwa called on the government to address the security challenges confronting the country.

According to him, “no where is safe in Nigeria with the recent kidnapping of Prelate of the Methodist Church and two others on the road, the train attack and on the air and now is inside the church of God.”

The CAN Chairman noted that the day was the feast of the Pentecost Sunday in the history of the Catholic Church, assuring the people that the Holy Spirit of God would definitely fight for those that were killed in the incident.

Ologunwa called on the state government and security agencies to as a matter of urgency go after the perpetrators of the henious act and bring them to justice.

The chairman condoled with families of the victims, the Catholic Community and the entire state, and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He assured that CAN would continue to promote religious harmony and equal opportunities for all in the state without discrimination.

The CAN chairman admonished the people of the state to complement Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu’s efforts on security, charging them to be security conscious at all times.

  • El-Rufai raises alarm over Boko Haram moving into Kaduna

El-Rufai raises alarm over Boko Haram moving into Kaduna

Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday in Kaduna expressed concerns about the emergence of insurgents and their enclaves in Birnin Gwari and Chukun Local Government Areas of the state.

He listed the insurgents to those belonging to Boko Haram and Ansaru.

El Rufai raised the concerns after the presentation of the Kaduna State Security Incident Report for the first quarter of 2022.

He also expressed worry at the increasing use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the state, which he said suggested that terrorists had moved into Kaduna State.

He noted that the debriefing on the Abuja-Kaduna train attack of March 28 indicated that the terrorists were planning to relocate to Kaduna.

According to him, the assailants made comments such as: “the forests in Kaduna are even better than that of Sambisa and so they should all relocate here.’’

The governor stressed that “insecurity has moved from the Northeast to the Northwest.

“The situation in the Northwest is far more serious and could be potentially more dangerous than we have ever had in the Northeast.

“We would like the military and security agencies to take notice of this before things go out of control.’’

El-Rufai thanked the police for ensuring that many IEDCs and mines found in Kaduna State were defused without loss of lives.

He also lamented the high rate of drug abuse in Kaduna State and commended the NDLEA, traditional leaders and community leaders for efforts at curtailing the scourge.

The governor stated that the government would seek legal advice to shut patent medicine stores selling illicit drugs, shut the premises and acquire the building for demolition.

“We have to take drastic action because related to every form of crime from banditry to terrorism is the use of hard drugs.

“These bandits take drugs before they commit their crimes; virtually every crime is related to drug abuse. I think we must cut the supply chain to enable us to control the demand,’’ he emphasised.

El-Rufai also noted that security agencies had been overstretched and there was the need to increase recruitment into vigilance groups.

“The 1000 vigilantes that we recruited and trained at the Police College have been very useful in assisting the army, police and other security agents,’’ he said.

The governor also said that he craved the resumption of flights at the Kaduna Airport after the March 26 assailants’ attack at the facility.

“We are grateful to the Defence Headquarters for enabling the establishment of the Nigeria Defence Academy Demonstration Battalion in Kaduna State.

“I appeal to the Air Force to also have some kind of permanent deployment at the airport to secure it so that flights will resume,’’ El-Rufai said.

Sallah Message: Final victory against insurgents, terrorists approaching conclusion – Buhari assures

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the battle waged against terrorists, who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion and “victory is within sight”.

The president gave the assurance in his Sallah message to Nigerians as the Holy month of Ramadan reaches its end and Muslims will officially mark the Eid-el-Fitr on Monday.

The President’s spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the president sent his best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world celebrating the occasion.

The statement read in part: ”As the Holy month of Ramadan reaches its end and Muslims mark the Eid, President Muhammadu Buhari sends his best wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world celebrating the occasion:

“After a period of fasting and reflection this year, we have cause to welcome the occasion in hope.

”The battle waged against terrorists who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion.

“The fight has been long and hard. Final victory is within sight. Boko Haram and its offshoots’ final embers are now fading.

“Last month, the leader of ISWAP was killed in an airstrike. Since the New Year, thousands of fighters have surrendered to enter rehabilitation programmes.

”The territories they used to occupy are now seeing the return of those who were forced to flee their barbarity.

”Normality is finally beginning to return to the Northeast. It is a long process. Yet it is one we are together, now embarking upon.

“With the designation of bandit groups as terrorists, the challenges of banditry and kidnapping are being tackled differently in the North-western and North central states where the latest military acquisitions and the Armed Forces are being fanned out across the region to thwart acts of terror.”

The president also expressed delight over what he described as ”impressive reports” of the special operations to curb crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the South-South zone of the country.

He, however, noted that in spite of the good news some unpatriotic elements were bent on causing more pollution and destruction of national assets.

“The administration is equally getting impressive reports of the special operations to curb crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the South-South with millions of illegally refined products being impounded and illegal refineries destroyed.

“While we are making progress cleaning the environment, some evil people are busy causing more pollution and destruction.

‘‘In response to the disturbing rise in criminal attacks targeting law enforcement and public facilities in the South East, concerted military operations to rid the region of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“And Eastern Security Network (ESN) elements have in recent weeks led to the overrunning of IPOB/ESN bases, the seizure of weapons and the arrest of a large number of suspects.’’

The president’s media aide revealed that Buhari had since approved the establishment of a Naval Base in Oguta, Imo State.

Shehu also noted that reinvigoration of the war against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking were also showing positive results as shown by the arrest of over 12, 300 offenders including seven drug barons; the conviction of 1,400, counseling and rehabilitation of about 8,000 drug users.

He acknowledged the seizure of over 3.4 million kilograms of drugs and cash worth over N130 billion, all in 2021.

According to him, the first quarter of 2022 has seen the arrest of no fewer than 3,536 offenders including security personnel and a well-known billionaire drug baron.

”The seizure of more than 65,000 tonnes of assorted drugs in this period sets a record for the nation.’’

”It is with a view to giving impetus to the concerned agency that President Buhari granted approvals for the promotion of more than 3,500 officers, the procurement of operational equipment, training for personnel and buildings for residential barracks.”

Shehu also quoted the president as directing increased coordination and cooperation among security agencies, saying that an end had been brought to a silo approach among the agencies.

Buhari, who wished Nigerians Eid Mubarak to all. assured that there would be no shortage of funds to provide security for the citizens.

Train Attacks: Unite against terrorists, saboteurs – APC National Chairman begs Nigerians

Disturbed by the Abuja-Kaduna trains attacks in the last one week, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu has pleaded with Nigerians to unite against saboteurs and terrorists.

The Senator representing Nasarawa North said this while reacting to the Abuja-Kaduna train attack on Monday.

Senator Adamu in a statement said now is the time to unite against these enemies of the land and he then mourned the deceased victims of the attack and condole with their families.

“I strongly condemn this attack. It was brutal and barbaric and it further delineates the extent to which some enemies of the land will go to sabotage the good efforts of the government in making Nigeria safe for all”.

“I wish to call on Nigerians to look beyond this devilish attack. It’s the work of saboteurs, rebellious subjects and enemies of peace. Rather, we must unite against those who seek to destroy civilization and our democracy”.

Terrorists will be crushed, Buhari reassures Kaduna residents

President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured Kaduna State residents of the resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces, under his watch, to crush terrorists and criminal gangs operating in the State and other parts of the country.

The president’s media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Friday, said the president stated this at a State Banquet to commemorate his official visit to the state.

The president commended the support Kaduna State had been providing to security agencies, noting the establishment of a ministry dedicated to Internal security.

‘‘I wish to assure the people and government of Kaduna State that the Federal Government is doing its utmost to contain and crush the terrorists that have been menacing our citizens and their property in parts of the country.

‘‘On behalf of the Federal Government, I commend the efforts of the Kaduna State Government to respond to the demands of development.

‘‘The relationship between our tiers of government represents an instance of successful collaboration between the national and state governments for progress, peace and prosperity.

‘‘I urge Malam Nasir El-Rufai to push on and not relent in his efforts to accelerate change and progress in Kaduna State,’’ he said.

While reviewing his programme in the state since he arrived on Wednesday, the president said he was delighted to have inaugurated projects undertaken by the state government led by El-Rufai.

‘‘I have been most impressed by the consistent efforts of the Kaduna State Government to develop the state, to seek progress on so many fronts and to boldly confront challenges.

‘‘Most of my visits to Kaduna State since 2015 have been in connection with clear strides of progress.

”I was here in 2017 to commission the hatchery and feed mill project of Olam, a multinational agribusiness company that has sited a major factory in Kaduna.

‘‘In August 2019, I had the honour to commission Phase 2 of the Zaria Water Project and a road project.

‘‘Therefore, I am not surprised that Malam Nasir El-Rufai and his team have undertaken such a major investment in infrastructure development.

”I am glad to say that I have seen with my own eyes the remarkable changes across all the three Senatorial zones,’’ he said.

The president declared that he looked forward to inaugurating more and more projects in the state.

He lauded the Kaduna State Urban Renewal Programme ‘‘for its sheer audacity, breadth of imagination and quality of project execution.

‘‘Projects under this programme have been described as an unprecedented investment in urban infrastructure in the state.

‘‘When completed, these projects will define the city of Kaduna for the next 50 years.

‘‘State Governments have direct responsibility for the quality of life of the residents of their state. Kaduna State is providing an example of how this can be done.’’

While highlighting other achievements of the state government, the president said it was noteworthy that the hardwork of the present administration attracted 2.8 billion dollars in foreign investment to the state since 2015.

‘‘This was further confirmed by Kaduna State being ranked as the Number One state for ease of doing business in the last published World Bank Doing Business Report for sub-nationals in Nigeria.

‘‘We have also seen the El-Rufai government increase the internally generated revenue of the state by almost four times in five years, from N13bn in 2015 to N50.7bn in 2020.’’

On health, the president recalled the strong response of Kaduna State in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria early in 2020, welcoming the completion of the 136-bed Infectious Disease Centre inaugurated on Thursday.

On education, the president noted that the state had also demonstrated commitment to equality of opportunity at the basic and senior secondary levels.

‘‘The policy of making education free and compulsory up to the completion of secondary school is a significant contribution to human capital development, and I commend it wholeheartedly.

‘‘I have been told that back in 2015, you inherited a school in the Rigasa area with reportedly over 20,000 pupils instead of the planned 1,500 pupils. We are impressed that Kaduna State Government has built more schools to accommodate these students,’’ he said.

In his remarks, Gov. El-Rufai called for further military action to stop the activities of terrorists in the State.

‘‘We have spent considerable sums to support federal security agencies in the State in order to promote the safety and wellbeing of our people.

‘‘We are implementing a Safe City project, created a Vigilance Service to provide community level security services and established a Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to improve coordination among security agencies and intelligence sharing.

‘‘We believe that further military action and more boots on the ground are needed to stop the terrorists that menace our people.

”But as we tackle security, we must also move forward with the things that our resources and planning enable us to do to make life better for our people,’’ he said.

On ongoing road projects in the state, the governor informed the president that the Nnamdi Azikiwe Way (the old Western bye-Pass) is being reconstructed into a six-lane concrete highway by the Dangote Group under the President’s innovative Tax Credit scheme.

He, therefore, appealed to the president to direct the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to end the two-year delay suffered by this project and give Dangote the go-ahead to start the construction and completion of the earthworks before the onset of the rainy season.

He added that vital projects to reconstruct the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road up to the boundary with Niger state and the Birnin Gwari-Dansadau road, which passes through Katsina State and terminates in Zamfara State, were also stalled at the Federal Ministry of Works, despite the expressed readiness of the Dangote Group to work on them.

‘‘With the rapid progress in the construction of the Eastern Bye-Pass by the Federal Government, our government has completed plans to begin the construction of a new Western Bye-Pass to link with the Eastern Bye-Pass.

”This is to create the Third Ring Road of Kaduna from the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway behind the Rigasa Train Station and the Kaduna International Airport and terminating at the Kaduna-Zaria highway.

‘‘We need the commitment of the Federal Government to support this laudable project that will further expand economic opportunities for the people of Kaduna State and Nigeria at large,’’ he said.

The governor thanked Buhari for the working visit to Kaduna State as well as his unflinching support toward the development of the state.

If there are two governors the All Progressives Congress, APC, would gladly silence or if legal, eliminate, Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, will be in the top ranks. They have been a constant irritant, a very sore thumb, to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. There is hardly any week that either, or both, of them will not find something to lambast the government about. It is as if their main purpose of being, as Governors of their states, is to give Buhari the stick, weekly. For years , they were the only voice of opposition, the ones whose main pleasure was to make every day a sad one for this government.

If you were to ask any chieftain of the APC about the conduct of these governors, they will not waste time in telling you that they are rabble rousers, loud mouths, attention seekers, who have taken opposition politics to a ridiculous extent. But to their seemingly huge audience, Wike and Ortom have become the voice of the voiceless, two leaders who are not afraid to speak truth to power. But to unbiased watchers of Nigerian politics, the truth is tucked somewhere between the two positions.

Lets take the latest salvo by Governor Ortom directed at President Muhammadu Buhari, who is not only the President of Nigeria but is also the Life Patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), some of whose members have been involved in arsons, killings, maiming, raping and sundry other criminal activities.

In a statement, signed by his chief press secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, the Benue Governor insists, and indeed calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately declare as a terrorist organisation, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN.

In his words, Ortom said: “Though the federal government’s measure on bandits now seems strong, the security challenges will only be adequately addressed if similar hard position is taken on Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, MACBAN, and the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) who have vowed and continued to cause mayhem in Benue State and other parts of the country because of the anti-grazing laws.

“For us in Benue, the law has come to stay. It is irrevocable. In fact we have maintained our position that Benue State has no grazing routes, reserves or areas whatever. It was enacted in good faith for peace and order in the state. It was done among other things to end the incessant farmers/herdsmen clashes in the state. Nigerians have absorbed enough hunger and misery in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) misrule. Or is it possible that Mr President is not aware that Nigerians are dying from his misrule.”

If you recall, the federal government recently gazetted a law which named Boko Haram, ISWAP and all such organisations as terrorists organisations. Coming after years of reluctance on the part of the Buhari Government to so designate these organisations whose main fare has been the wanton killings of innocent Nigerians, the razing of villages, abduction of school children and women, who they turn into sex slaves. They have annexed a large number of villages and some local government areas too, if the Sultan of Sokoto and a plethora of other northern leaders are to be believed. They impose taxes on and collect tributes from them, enthroning their marauding government on the hapless people.

The applause following the declaration of ISWAP and Boko Haram as terrorist organisations had hardly died down when the Benue governor, whose state has been a major battle ground, a minefield of death, a centre point in the euphemistically named farmers, Fulani herdsmen clashes, decided to roughen the feathers of the Buhari government. Thousands of deaths have been recorded in these clashes between the itinerant Fulani herdsmen, most of whom, we are now told, cross the porous Nigerian borders from neighbouring countries, carry out their nefarious activities and disappear, leaving behind gory streams of innocent blood, burnt out villages, and a deafening silence from the federal authorities. None of these marauders, who left their bloody signatures across Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and a large chunk of the South West, South East, and South South, has ever been successfully caught and brought to justice. This has fuelled speculations that they are seemingly untouchable because the President is their Life Patron.

Governor Ortom, who rose to power on the wings of the All Progressives Congress but was, in his own words, forced to quilt the party and join the opposition when the farmers and Fulani herders clashes and the deaths, maiming, raping of innocent villagers hit a crescendo, now wants the President to declare the Miyetti Allah cattle breeding groups as terrorist organisations. Meaning the President should declare himself a terrorist! We all know this will never happen. Governor Ortom too, l suspect, knows this too.

DID YOU WATCH THAT PRESIDENT BUHARI INTERVIEW?

Last week, a large chunk of what this government has over time described as the Wailers were up to no good and bombarded the social media with disparaging comments and views satirising portion of the interviews which President Muhammadu Buhari granted some television station. And it seems there is just no satisfying these Nigerians. First they claimed that the man in Aso Rock masquerading as President Buhari is one Jubril from Sudan. When that couldn’t hold water, the grouse became that the President is suffering from a debilitating mental health issue which has affected his cognitive abilities. They claim he is now senile and he is just a puppet in the hands of some power manipulators in Aso Rock.

To give it a veneer of believability, they then started complaining that the president does not speak to the nation, lacks empathy and is seemingly aloof to the myriad of problems, especially the insecurity which bedevils the nation. Now they have decided to shift the goalpost: they insist now that the president is incoherent, and is unable to understand questions posed to him and is wont to to veer off, go on a tangent totally unrelated to the questions posed to him. They readily have made a clip from the interview the president granted to Channels television go laughably viral just because all the statistics quoted by the interviewers show that life of the average Nigerian is worst off today compared to 2015 when the president came into office.

To this the president, not wanting to dwell on the dreadful statistics, asked all Nigerians, like he is often known to say, to go back to the land, to farm. Yes, his answers showed an acute lack of knowledge of the times we are in: that technology, which is matching all over the world in such a frenetic pace, is the future and not agriculture. Yes, the President seems unaware that because of the activities of Miyetti Allah and the terrorists terrorising a large swath of the nation, there is hardly any reasonable farming going on in the country, that the nation is on tenterhooks, on the verge of food insecurity.

While I am waiting for the next complaints by the wailers, suffice it to say, President Buhari is alive, is well, and can answer questions to the best of his abilities. Like he reminded Nigerians, he is old, and fagged out from selflessly serving them in the over sixty years of his service to the nation as a war General, Governor, Minister, Head of State, President. We owe him a debt of gratitude, especially now that the nation has sunk deep into economic morass.

    STARS OF THE WEEK:

    BOLA AHMED TINUBU

The Jagaban, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, self acclaimed leader of the All Progressives Congress, lived up to his promise on Monday when he formally declared his intention to vie for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. First, he formally went to Aso Rock to intimate the Lord of the Manor, President Muhammadu Buhari, of his intentions and thereafter the rest of us. I m glad that finally, hIis day in the sun has come. After decades of being in the political trenches of Nigeria, the man also fondly addressed as Asiwaju, has thrown his hat into the All Progressives Congress, APC, ring and is battle ready to fight it out in the crab-like cesspit of the primaries and emerge the party’s flag bearer.

His chances are bright given his seeming hold on the Southwest politics; his known wealth and the loyalties he can call on. His main problems, however, are mainly three persons: Rotimi Amaechi, VP Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Kayode Fayemi. Others too might soon emerge.

    ANYIM FOR PRESIDENT

The Igbo nation did something spectacular last week to very little press attention. Most of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, political leaders in the South East gathered, under one roof, to signify their seriousness in asking that the rest of the country should truly consider allowing a Nigerian of South East origin to contest for and indeed emerge the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And they overwhelmingly threw their weight behind Pius Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation who was also a former Senate President. He is the only one, so far, to have publicly signified his intentions to vie for the position. This is unprecedented, a sign that maybe the South Eastern leaders, just this once, are ready to play national politics right. Hoping that the usual spoilers will not also soon come out to muddy the waters.

    VP OSINBAJO

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is one of the lucky stars of the outgone week. Suddenly, his presidential posters have flooded Abuja, the federal capital and some of the states of the federation giving fillip to the speculations making the rounds that he is going to man it out and go for the presidential ticket of the APC. The Vice President who was also in Bauchi during the week, for a wedding ceremony to which his mentor and now, soon to be political rival, Ahmed Tinubu, was also an invitee, upped the ante, positioning himself with a widely accepted, and reported presidential-like speech. There is no doubting it anymore. The VP has his heart fully in the presidential ring contest.

I have my ring side seat and I am salivating with all joyous anticipation the looming heavy weight fight between the Jagaban and the VP.

…AND THE COWARD OF THE WEEK?

Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State is my Coward of the Week. After much hype and talk of him naming the sponsors of terrorism in Imo State, and after inviting leaders and his supporters in the state to a meeting in Umuahia, the Supreme Court enthroned governor simply chickened out, disappointing all and sundry.

Coming less than two weeks after the poorly handled and massively condemned arrest of Uche Nwosu, son inlaw of the former governor of the state, the one Imolites used to call Okorohausa, (Rochas Okorocha), the expectations were at mountain top. Governor Uzodinma, on D-Day, turned lily livered and could only whimper that Okorocha, who is a member of his party and was at a time his staunch supporter, was his major headache.

The man just make people vex sha!
