350 terrorists killed, 500 wounded by Nigerian military in one month- Centre

No fewer than 350 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have been killed and over 500 wounded by the Nigerian military in the last one month according to the Institute for Peace and Counter-Terrorism Studies (IPCTS).

IPCTS made this damning revelation in a well-documented report after a thorough research into the military’s activities in the northeast.

In the last one month, the Nigerian troops have earned plaudits in its final clearance operation and unsurprisingly, though, this comes since the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. T.Y Buratai relocated to the northeast.

Led by the COAS himself, the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have continually carried out massive onslaught on the fleeing terrorists, which has left hundreds dead and factional leader Abubakar Shekau on the brink of submission.

In the report signed by Executive Director, Dr. Samson Bello, the institute revealed that the introduction of additional counter-terrorism methods, as well as a boost in military hardware have given the troops an edge.

However, it acknowledged that the Army Chief is the singular difference in the battlefield, coordinating the day-to-day operations and offensives against the terrorists.

The institute also observed that the presence of the COAS has served as a source of motivation to the troops, with his orchestration of top-notch operational strategies neutralizing the threats posed by the Boko Haram/ISWAP group.

With the troops on the cusp of victory, IPCTS, however, urged that the tempo is sustained as the jihadist might eventually surrender as the odds are well against them.

Andimi was abducted early January when the insurgents attacked Michika. The news of his death broke on Tuesday morning.

“President Buhari consoles the Christian community all over Nigeria, the government and people of Adamawa state and the Bishop’s family over the sad loss of the man of God.

  • 89 soldiers killed by terrorists, Buhari mourns

Scores of Nigerien soldiers have been killed by a terrorist gang at a military base in Chinagodrar.

The attack happened on 9 January near the border with Mali. Eighty nine soldiers were killed by the terror group, worse than another attack on a military outpost in December 2019, in which 71 soldiers were killed by the terror group.

Military troops in Niger and Mali are fighting to suppress a jihadist insurgency, which has seen army outposts in both countries attacked by militants in recent months.

In November, 13 French soldiers were killed in a crash involving two helicopters during an operation against jihadist fighters in Mali.

The President reaffirmed that the perpetrators of such cowardly acts and their sponsors deserve no peace and comfort, stressing that Nigeria stands in solidarity with her allies to ensure that justice is served.

In Niger, three days of national morning has been declared, during which Niger’s flag will also be flown at half-staff throughout the country.

The Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Segun Ajiboye Ajiboye has disclosed that some of the school teachers who were sacked by terrorists in the north-eastern part of the country are back to classroom.

He said that the Council had commenced the process of bringing back to the classrooms, teachers who have deserted the northeast zone due to terrorism attacks.

Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, he said that the plan was to re-motivate and change the psyche of the traumatised teachers to return to school.

According to him, some of the teachers lost their certificates to terrorism but have been restored by the intervention of the Council.

The TRCN boss disclosed that bringing back the teachers would improve knowledge impartation on students in North-eastern part of the country.

“Actually it is disheartening we are affected we can’t pretend. We have lost so many teachers to insecurity especially in the northeast. It created trauma. Pupils left the schools. They don’t want to come.

“The teachers themselves left because of what has happened to their colleagues. What we are doing is to bring back our teachers especially in the northeast. A lot of interventions are going on to re-motivate the teachers and change their psyche.

“So many of them left the teaching profession they don’t want to come back but now sanity is returning and our teachers are coming back. Some of them lost their certificates to insurgency”, he said.

  • Boko Haram: 39 killed, 20 wounded as troops, terrorists clash

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force – MNJTF, killed 39 Boko Haram terrorists, captured many equipment from them, while 20 soldiers were wounded.

The spokesman of the task force, Col. Timothy Antigha, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, NAN reports.

Antigha said the terrorists were killed when they attacked troops position at Cross Kaura on Tuesday.

“The wounded soldiers had been evacuated from the area of operation and now receiving adequate medical attention,” Antigha said.

Meanwhile, Recall that MNJTF had few days ago denied any recent attack on its troops and killing of 18 soldiers in its area of responsibility.

According to Antigha, the reported attack and killing were falsehood being orchestrated by the media arm of ISWAP in its desperate attempt to revamp its parlous and deplorable image.

“It has been widely reported and it is now common knowledge that sustained offensive actions by MNJTF troops and national forces have resulted in over 200 ISWAP personnel casualties and defections as well as numerous equipment seizures and destruction.

“The claim of killing 18 MNJTF personnel in an unnamed location is, therefore, very strange and completely untrue.

“Consequently, the general public is advised to disregard the ISWAP falsehood in its entirety,” Antigha said.

  • Troops kill 41 suspected Boko Haram terrorists

Forty suspected Boko Haram terrorists were at the weekend killed by the Multinational Joint Task Force Troops (MNJTF), the military announced on Sunday.

The terrorists were neutralised in clearance operations by troops who destroyed six gun trucks and other equipment belonging to the insurgents.

Last night, Boko Haram Terrorists operating on the Kamadougou River, between Niger and Nigeria, attacked troops location in Gueskerou, about 30 kilometers from Diffa in Niger Republic.

However, troops showed valour and gallantry by fiercely defending their location and killing 27 terrorists, destroying six gun trucks and capturing equipment, arms and ammunition.

A few terrorists who escaped the fire fight were observed running towards Gashigar in Nigerian territory and were being pursued as at the time of issuing this press release.

He said: “It would be recalled that about 10 days ago, MNJTF troops also struck Boko Haram Terrorists in Dorou in Niger Republic, neutralising many of them in the process.
