Thiago Silva warns teammates ahead of Chelsea exit

Departing Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has fired a passionate warning to his Blues teammates.

Thiago Silva says the players failed to meet standards this season.

As he prepares to return to Fluminense this summer, the 39 year-old told Sky Sports: “Thiago knows what it means to wear a Chelsea shirt, you know.

“And if I have a message to send to the boys that are here today, I hope they understand that everything they did to get to Chelsea has to be worth it.

“Because the season we’re having is not worthy of Chelsea. It’s not.

“And I think they have to do more next year, they need to do more.”

Silva also said of Chelsea supporters: “If you look at the games, the fans never left the team, never.

“We were in ninth place, eighth, right? And the fans were always there.

“They booed us off a little at the end of the match, but they’re always there in the stands, always with 40,000, 45,000.

“If we were somewhere else, they could throw rocks at us – we know that happens in our country.

“So these boys need to be aware that Chelsea has to fight for the top positions.

“If we take a little of our ego and put it in favour of the team, I think it will work. If we don’t do that, the situation will hardly change unfortunately.”

Thiago Silva will be a great miss for us – Chelsea defender

Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile admits they will miss Thiago Silva.

The veteran stopper is leaving Chelsea at the end of the season.

Badiashile said: “Thiago is a great player and we all know how great he is.

“It will be a great miss for us but we have to continue to work. That’s life, we have to continue.

“You can see that when I play with him, I am more confident, but I have to try to be the same player without him because he can’t be with me throughout my career.

“He has helped me a lot, but I will try to do my best without him.”

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has privately decided on his future beyond the end of the season.

The 39-year-old center half played in the club’s 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

Silva was seen in tears at the final whistle, while many of his younger teammates appeared unbothered by the loss.

Asked about his future, Silva told reporters: “You are going to know in the coming days. I don’t want to say anything now after a defeat.

“I’m sad about the result, but sooner or later, the news will come out.

“I do have a decision made in my mind, but it’s not the moment to share it.”

He then added: “My four years here were very good. Not that I didn’t believe in myself, but with my age and the intensity of this league…it’s rare to see players in a high level at 39.

“I don’t like to talk about myself, but you can see this. Today, I was ready to play the extra time! I can see I have some years in me to keep enjoying football.”

Thiago also posted to social media: “It is difficult to describe in words what I feel now.

“We are very sorry we didn’t make it, we left everything on the pitch. Proud of this group.

Silva’s wife, Belle Silva, posted on social media at the end of the game: “It’s time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late,” accompanied with two blue hearts.

“Thank you for always speaking your mind,” one supporter said in response, while another replied: “Please tell them. The more you procrastinate, the more it looks unachievable.”

One then stated: “Your husband might not be happy with your post though, seems a bit unprofessional.”

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva was furious with his teammates at the end of victory against Luton Town.

Chelsea won 3-2 at Kenilworth Road, but at one stage were 3-0 ahead.

Luton’s late fight-back left Thiago Silva fuming and he let his young teammates know his feelings at the final whistle.

Later, Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “Thiago is like this. He is always moaning and never happy – but that is good. He is 39 years old and still playing. I think sometimes we are there on the pitch but sometimes it was the small details.

“You want to show that you want to help the team and your emotion is there.”

  • I would love to see my children play for Chelsea – Thiago Silva

I would love to see my children play for Chelsea – Thiago Silva

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has revealed that he would be happy to see his kids play for the club one day.

Silva is now 39 and is nearing the end of a glittering career for club and country.

While the Brazilian centre-half will not be in the Chelsea playing squad for many more years, he does hope his two sons Isago da Silva and Iago da Silva can step up from the club’s academy one day.

In an interview with the club’s website, Silva stated: “I have to say, at every club I’ve been at, I’ve felt a lot of love from the clubs themselves and the fans, but here it feels a little bit different, because of the fact that my kids are playing in the team too.

“For me, it would be a dream to see them play professionally at Chelsea. I love watching them, ultimately, and I try to help them as much as I can.

“I love seeing my kids playing here, my wife is here all the time and even wants to be at every away game. I think she realizes that time is running out slightly, so she wants to make the most of the last few years of my career.

“When I got here, it felt like love at first sight, to be honest, and I’m still very proud to be here.”

  • Thiago Silva attacks Chelsea owners over ‘indecision’

Thiago Silva attacks Chelsea owners over ‘indecision’

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva says the club’s new owners have blown this season with a lot of indecisions.

Chelsea were eliminated by Real Madrid in their Champions League quarterfinal last night.

“I think the first step has been made. An incorrect step, but it has been made,” Silva said.

“We can’t be blaming the managers if we don’t take responsibility. It’s a hard period for the club, with a lot of indecision.

“Change of ownership, new players arriving – we had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn’t fit the size of the squad.

“There is always going to be someone upset because not everyone can play.

“The manager can only pick 11 from a squad of 30-something – that’s tough.

“Some can’t make the squad, we signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes.”

  • We’ll see a better Neymar in Qatar – Thiago Silva

We’ll see a better Neymar in Qatar – Thiago Silva

Brazil captain Thiago Silva says we will see a “better Neymar” in Qatar after injury hampered his past two tournaments.

PSG star Neymar missed the 2014 semi-final with a back injury and struggled for full fitness during the 2018 tournament after foot surgery earlier in the year.

However, he arrives in Qatar for the 2022 Wold Cup fully fit and having scored 15 goals in 20 games for Paris St-Germain this season.

“I think Neymar is coming into this competition in great form,” said Silva.

“His preparation this time has been different. In 2014 he got injured just as he was playing so well, and in 2018 he came into the tournament in a different way because he had a serious injury so hadn’t played much.

“Now with a different preparation, without any injury and any worry, we see a better Neymar.”
