Thiago Silva texts Kimpembe about Chelsea move

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is working to lure Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe to join him at Stamford Bridge.

Kimpembe is a target for the Blues as they seek to replace departing defensive pair Toni Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

At Chelsea, Kimpembe would find former PSG coach Thomas Tuchel and also his former captain Thiago Silva.

L’Equipe says Thiago Silva knows Chelsea are keen on Kimpembe and has been doing his part in trying to convince the stopper about a move to London.

The Brazilian has been in regular contact with Kimpembe via text message, urging him to make the move to England.

Chelsea have extended Thiago Silva’s contract by one year until the end of the 2022-23 season.

The 37-year-old Brazilian defender has made 22 appearances for the Blues so far this campaign.

Silva started at the heart of defence as Chelsea beat Manchester City to win the Champions League in May 2021.

He has also scored four goals since joining the London club on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in August 2020.

Silva told Chelsea’s official website that playing for the club is a “real pleasure”.

“I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season,” said Silva.

“To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure, I’m going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.”

Silva won his 100th cap for Brazil in October.

Thiago Silva responds to Scholes criticism over Ronaldo

Chelsea’s Thiago Silva has hit back at Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes for saying that Cristiano Ronaldo would have got the better of him(Silva) had the Portuguese started their Premier League tie on Sunday.

Michael Carrick, the caretaker boss of Manchester United had surprisingly kept Ronaldo on bench during their 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

And Scholes, while running a commentary on Sky Sports, criticised Carrick’s decision to start Ronaldo on the bench and felt that the former Real Madrid star would have thrived against Thiago Silva.

The former England international also claimed that Manchester United have ‘more talent’ than Chelsea.

But Thiago Silva has hit back at Scholes’ claims on Instagram.

In his response to a Chelsea fan’s account that generalised Scholes’ view of Ronaldo and Thiago Silva, the Brazilian defender wrote: ‘It is always easy, especially for those who have stopped playing!’

  • PSG signing Ramos made me sad – Thiago Silva

PSG signing Ramos made me sad – Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to sign Sergio Ramos has left him “truly sad,” after he was not offered a similar deal despite the duo being close in age.

Former Real Madrid captain Ramos is one of a number of high-profile signings at Parc des Princes this summer, as the Ligue 1 side look to cement their hopes of a successful European challenge.

Yet Silva, who is entering his second year at Chelsea following his PSG exit last term, has admitted that while has no issue with Ramos, the club’s call to sign the Spain star rankles given his own long service – and sharp release – from the French side.

“I have nothing against Sergio Ramos, but Sergio, at the time at which they offered him a two-year contract, was the same age as me last year,” the 36-year-old told ESPN Brazil.

“So that made me truly sad. I have not yet spoken about it with anyone, because it made me really sad because I felt like I had done nothing for the club.

“My departure is a page that has certainly been turned, but at the same time I think a lot, I reflect a lot on everything that has happened. I think that something else could have been done.

“Because it was not eight days, or eight months that I spent with PSG. It was eight years with lots of victories, lots of work to be able to change, and put PSG at the level that it is at today.

“I want PSG to win, because the club deserves all the respect. But, in light of the way that things played out, I have this feeling of sadness and I feel that it could have been done differently.”

  • Tuchel changes have worked – Thiago Silva

Tuchel changes have worked – Thiago Silva

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has praised the impact of manager Thomas Tuchel since his January arrival.

Ahead of tonight’s clash with Arsenal, Thiago Silva spoke of the changes made by his former PSG coach.

“I always strive to win,” he told the club’s website. “I work hard to win but things have turned out in a way where we’ve come to the end of the season and we’re fighting for other trophies instead of the title.

“The new coach [Thomas Tuchel] came in when we were in a tough position and he changed things here and there so things started to work in the way he set out. We’re obviously far behind Manchester United and Manchester City but we’re happy to be near the top and to have a chance of being in the Champions League next season.

“Now we have the derby against Arsenal, then it’s the FA Cup final against Leicester, then another game against them in the league. It’s like two Champions League games every week but I think our team is more than ready for these games.”

Chelsea forward, Timo Werner has responded to the criticism he received from Isabelle, wife of his teammate, Thiago Silva.

He said that Thiago Silva was quick to apologise for his wife’s outburst during Chelsea’s Champions League first leg against Real Madrid in Spain.

Isabelle da Silva was furious when Werner missed a sitter during the clash against Real Madrid.

Werner confirmed Thiago Silva apologised to him and played down the incident, saying that things like this can happen when emotions are running high.

“Sometimes that can happen when the emotions are overflowing,” Werner told Sky Germany.

“Thiago also apologised directly to me the next day.

“That’s when the matter was ticked off. So I’m all the more happy today, not only for her but also with the other wives of my teammates!

“Hopefully me and the team can get them to cheer again. It’s for the best that the women that are at home are happy, and that the fans are happy.”

Wife of Thiago Silva makes U-turn for Timo Werner

The wife of Thiago Silva has heaped praise on Chelsea teammate Timo Werner after their Champions League defeat of Real Madrid.

Werner nodded in Chelsea’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Real Madrid, converting from close range after a deft Kai Havertz lob came back off the crossbar.

The Germany forward spurned a glorious chance to score for Chelsea last week and Mrs Silva was quick to vent on her Instagram story about the £53million striker who has endured a tricky first season in England.

But after last night’s success, Isabele declared: “Werner, very good! That’s what I’m talking about,’ the 34-year-old said on her Instagram moments after the first goal. ‘You know! You are the best my friend, love you!”

  • Maldini a great mentor for me – Chelsea defender

Maldini a great mentor for me – Chelsea defender

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has revealed how he picked up longevity tips from his former AC Milan teammate Paolo Maldini.

Maldini played into his forties at San Siro, with Silva learning under him as a young defender.

Now 36, Silva thanks his former mentor for teaching him about lengthening his career.

“I had very positive examples close to me and one of those was [Paolo] Maldini, the greatest mentor and teacher I had,” Silva told the club’s website.

“He taught me a lot, even though he wasn’t aware of it. I was able to see his preparation for training and for the matches.

“He was a guy who, at 41 years of age, was playing at a high level. He didn’t run as I did when I was 22 but if football was only about running then I definitely wouldn’t be playing it anymore!

“The ball says everything. It’s the ball that runs, it’s the ball that brings intensity to the match, and I had a great example of that by my side.”

Thiago Silva happy to sign new Chelsea contract

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is ready to sign a new contract.

The Daily Express says Thiago Silva is set to sign a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge an extra 12 months.

The Brazilian defender signed an initial 12-month deal when he joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent last summer.

The 36-year-old has proved a significant addition for Chelsea with some impressive performances under both Frank Lampard and his successor Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea had an option to extend Silva’s deal in the original agreement, and the club want him to stay, but now the Brazilian is ready to put pen to paper on a new agreement.

Thiago Silva has missed the last eight Chelsea games with a thigh problem, but the Blues hope he will be fit after the international break.

  • EPL: Tuchel hails impact of Thiago Silva around Chelsea

EPL: Tuchel hails impact of Thiago Silva around Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has hailed the impact of Brazilian defender Thiago Silva around the London club.

The injured Brazilian was seen in the stands reacting to Emerson’s late goal in victory over Atletico Madrid that confirmed Chelsea’s progression to the Champions League quarter-finals, where they have been drawn against Porto.

And Tuchel said the celebrations, alongside Mason Mount and Jorginho, were typical of the veteran central defender.

He said: “I know Thiago for many years now. We had a fantastic partnership in Paris, a completely reliable captain for me from the minute I stepped in.

“Once he is part of a team, he is 100% part of the team, 100% professional. He is a very emotional guy.

“All three of them, Mason, Jorgi and Thiago, were completely involved in the game and that makes them involved in the moment. I heard them during the game coaching and supporting the players. I had the same thing from Willy and Kepa on the bench.”

He continued: “To create an atmosphere like this, you can rely on Thiago. He was so, so happy for Emerson to score like the other guys.

“He rans the stairs up and down and was dressed like a 28-year-old!

“On his contract, it is too early. Me and the club will make this decision together but if you look at the pictures, you can see how young he looks.”

Tuchel’s side face Porto in what on paper looks like the soft route to the semi-final stage of the Champions League.

But the German warned that it will not be an easy game. He said: “Clearly, many people will now make us favourites against Porto but that will not help us. You can ask in Turin if that helps you.

“We are self-confident and that is strongly connected with our performances. So we are confident that we will face a strong opponent and face them with respect, but we are in the quarter-final and are focused on winning that.”
