The 36-year-old defender has enjoyed a successful debut campaign with Chelsea, despite being currently sidelined with injury.

He is out of contract in the summer but there is an option to extend for a further year.

And Fabrizio Romano says the Blues want to extend Silva’s stay at the club.

Now it is up to the Brazilian whether he would like to stay in west London.

Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham were among the first players from Chelsea to thank Frank Lampard after his sacking as manager today.

Silva took to Instagram to thank Lampard for his help during their short stint together.

“I would like to thank you for everything you and your committee have done for me since the day I arrived,” Silva wrote.

“As I told you, it seemed like we had been together for 10 years!! Thank you for everything legend.”

Silva was one of Chelsea’s arrivals in a summer spend of over £200million under Lampard.

Tammy Abraham, who was Lampard’s main striker in his first season in charge, posted a picture of them together, writing: “A role model, a mentor & a great manager. Thank you Gaffer.”

Thiago Silva faces punishment over Fulham jersey toss

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants Mason Mount to score more goals with late runs in the box.

The 22-year-old pounced on a loose ball inside the box to score the winning goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham.

And Lampard, a legendary goalscoring midfielder himself, says he has encouraged Mount to work on his goalscoring.

“It’s a conversation I have a lot with Mason,” Lampard told the club’s website.

“He can get more goals from midfield. I had him at Derby that year but even then there was a feeling between me and him he could get more. I’m always on him about it because it was obviously something big in my game.

“As I have alluded to before, my serious goalscoring at Chelsea came in when I was 25, 26. I’m not trying to measure Mason up against myself, but I understand it’s not easy to get so many regular goals.

“The nous of being involved in general play and getting two or three opportunities for himself will come with development and work.

“He will score a lot more goals. By the time he’s 24, maturing into the prime of his career, I would like to think Mason Mount will be a player in the highest level in all senses and have at least 10 goals, maybe 15, a season in him. The great thing is I know he knows it and he wants it, so it will happen.”

EPL: Thiago Silva reacts to Chelsea poor form

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has admitted he is at a loss to explain the recent poor form by Frank Lampard’s team after stumbling to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea slipped to eighth in the Premier League table after suffering their fifth defeat of the season on Sunday evening.

City ran out 3-1 winners at the London club thanks to first-half goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne, with Callum Hudson-Odoi a consolation for the hosts in the dying minutes of the game.

“Today was painful in the first half in football terms because their level of play shows where we need to aspire to,” he told BBC Sport. “In the second half I saw a reaction but the work needs to be done.”

Asked to pinpoint what’s gone wrong for Chelsea in recent weeks, the Brazilian told RMC Sport: “No, I don’t understand what’s wrong. If I understand before, I think I could have given some advice, but that’s how it is, it’s football, it’s the Premier League, one of the toughest championships around the world.

“You have to be careful, work harder, be stronger as a team, but I think the team is good, the second half was much better than the first in my opinion.

“We tried to play a little more, we managed to play. I think we were superior in possession of the ball in the second half, sometimes it does not work as we want, as we have prepared, but hey, that’s how it is football. We must prepare for the next match when it arrives.”

Why I signed for Chelsea, Thiago Silva reveals

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva admits the decision to move to the London giants was motivated by the 2022 World Cup.

Silva, 36, intends to be fully fit and in shape for the Qatar tournament.

He told the club’s website: “Yes. First, I have this ambition to continue producing good performances here at Chelsea. I chose this club to keep playing at a very, very high level. Of course my ambition is to keep working hard to play at the next World Cup. It will be a World Cup very special, different to all the others.

“I hope to have the possibility of going there, but for now I have to keep working at this level and continue winning qualifying matches for the Selecao to even qualify for the World Cup! People talk about the World Cup this, the World Cup that, but first you have to qualify.

“That’s my main ambition, to continue playing with my team-mates and winning matches to qualify and then, of course, prepare ourselves and try to bring back the big trophy to Brazil.”

Chelsea legend John Terry has been impressed by Blues summer signing Thiago Silva.

Terry has noticed the Brazilian’s leadership qualities and likened him to other iconic centre-backs to play in the Premier League.

“It’s so good to have him in and around the football club because the likes of Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, Andreas Christensen – to have that kind of experienced player, to see what Thiago has done in the game, to learn from him on a daily basis,” Terry told the Sports Gazette.

The Aston Villa assistant coach compared Thiago Silva’s role with our young centre-backs to what Marcel Desailly was to him.

“When I first came through, I had Desailly to guide me through and talk to me – just that communication level is going to serve them so well.

“I hope every defender there is talking to Thiago and learning as much as they can from him.”

We’re happy in London, but Paris… – Thiago Silva’s wife

The wife of Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has spoken of their departure from Paris and PSG over the summer.

Isabelle Silva has declared the family has been able to settle quickly in London.

Speaking to Goal, Isabelle said: “I’m really happy to be in London. It is a beautiful city that I hope to discover even more. But Paris is Paris. It is special. We are French so Paris will always be in our heart.

“Still contacts between Thiago and the PSG players? Yes, because they play together in the national team so it’s easier. But he still has contacts with others too, like Marco Verratti or Ángel Di María. They played a lot of time together, so they kept in touch.

“Souvenirs from Paris? I have a lot of good memories since Thiago had his main titles there. It’s hard to pick just one, but making it to the Champions League final was something. We didn’t win, but it was very special for us.”

Iago looks the spitting image of his dad, and Chelsea will hope he turns out to be just as talented.

Thiago Silva opens up on differences between Serie A, Ligue 1 and EPL

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has been asked to compare the Premier League with Serie A and Ligue 1.

The former PSG captain and AC Milan defender is in his first season in England at the age of 36.

He said at a Brazil team media conference: “I had a big apprenticeship in Italy. In my opinion, this is one of the best schools for defenders.

“Then there is the French championship, which is a little more physical and a little stronger. Even if PSG has a strong domination over its opponents, we played in a more exposed way because we had to take risks.

“As for the English league, after the two matches that I played, it gives me a headache. It’s aerial play at all times, a very high pace of play.”
