“He has certainly got the speed and is a similar build and frame. Also the footwork. The assist [against Everton] was truly remarkable really. He has got a lot of potential to improve and get better, but it’s been a great start for him here.”

On Sunday’s opponents Southampton, Howe said: “It’s a difficult game. They [Southampton] are fighting. I watched the Arsenal game and they were very good against the league leaders – scored three goals and looked a real threat in transitions and set-plays.

“We have played Southampton three times this season so we know their qualities. They are a good team.”

Thierry Henry expresses dislike for VAR

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry has revealed his dislike regarding the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) explaining that football has got so much to learn from its use.

The former French footballer, noted that the technology is draining  “joy” from the game and killing excitement from the game.

Henry was speaking at the Leaders Week sport business conference at Twickenham Stadium.

“With VAR, what I get annoyed with is it’s not quick enough.

“Then it’s still the decision of someone in a truck or wherever they are, because it’s not VAR that makes the decision, VAR is just there to recall the situation.

“What’s annoying is when you get lost in translation, when someone tells you something, another one, the rule changes the week after, it can become tough. We have a lot to learn in football,” Henry said.

I always learn most in difficulty – Thierry Henry

Montreal Impact coach Thierry Henry says he’s learned from his experience at AS Monaco.

The Arsenal legend took his first job in management at ASM last season and didn’t last half a campaign.

Henry recalled to So Foot: “It’s like everything: it’s either you win or you learn. And I have always learned a lot more with difficulty than with ease. It’s when you’re tough that you know what you’re made of.

“When everything is easy, you lead 8-0, everyone wants the ball. When you are down 1-0 or there is 0-0, it’s not the same. In Monaco, I learned, as I learned this year and as I learn every day.

“Now, I’m talking to you, but next year I’ll tell you something different. I can be sure of a tactic tonight and say to you two months from now, ‘Um, actually, no, impossible’.

“As a coach, you can have ideas, but you also and above all have to adapt to the players you have, but also to the team you face. Afterwards, when you’re Bayern or Manchester City, everyone adapts to you, obviously.

“I believe there is no exact science. Some will tell you the opposite, that they will stay with their 4-4-2, but I try to adapt and learn. This season, for example, we had imagined something with the staff, then we had to change depending on departures, injuries, the profile of the players …”
