    Thugs invade Ondo Assembly as court quashes suspension of four lawmakers

    Suspected thugs have invaded the premises of the Ondo State House of Assembly following a court ruling that quashed the suspension of four lawmakers.

    Those whose suspension were lifted are; Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ogundeji Iroju, the only woman in the House, Mrs. Favour Tomomowo, Hon Wale Williams and Hon Tomide Akinribido.

    They were among the nine lawmakers that refused to sign impeachment notice against the Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi.

    The thugs were stationed at strategic locations in the Assembly complex

    Meanwhile, Speaker of the Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun, insisted that they were not thugs but members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

    He said the NURTW members were at the Assembly premises for a meeting on conduct during the forthcoming elections.

     

  • Thugs attack Kwankwaso in Kano, three SUVs destroyed

    The convoy of former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso was attacked by thugs in Kano on Tuesday.

    It was gathered not less than three utility vehicles in his convoy were destroyed during the incident, which occured close to a three star hotel in the city.

    The incident was said to have occurred shortly after Kwankwaso conferred with the Chairman of Kano State PDP ward Congress, Governor Fintiri.

    A statement by Ibrahim Adam, spokesman to Abba Kabir Yusuf, 2019 PDP gubernatorial candidate in Kano said “the leader escaped unhurt ”

    Adam said: “While leaving the hotel, some hired thugs attacked the convoy of Sen. Kwankwaso and destroyed 3 cars belonging to some of our House of Assembly members.”

    He added: “But, Alhamdulillah, the congress was successful. They couldn’t achieve what they want to achieve.”

    Suspected thugs have attacked Kwara state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon Bashir Bolarinwa and other members of the executive council.

    The attack on Tuesday evening this week confirmed the lingering crisis within the Kwara APC.

    According to a report by The Nation, members of the party’s excos were attacked in Shao town, Moro local government area of the state during a thank-you tour of the council for the massive support for APC at the last general elections.

    During the attack, the party bus that conveyed the party chiefs were was said to have been damaged by the suspected party thugs.

    It was also gathered that windscreen of the bus was shattered by the attackers who were said to have also threatened to inflict bodily harm to the party chairman and his team.

    In the ensuing melee party members, loyalists and supporters at the venue had to run for dear lives, it was gathered.

    During the attack, some members of a group said to be loyal to the under aegis of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Support group, alongside some youths, invaded the venue of the meeting and prevented the party chairman and members of his team from holding the planned meeting.

    Confirming the development, the state vice chairman of the party, Sunday Oyebiyi, described the attack as unfortunate, saying it could lead to disintegration of the party in the state.

    He said that police permit was sought and got on the planned tour of the 16 local government areas of the state, particularly when some members of the party loyal to the governor stood against it.

    Oyebiyi, who is also zonal chairman, (Kwara North) of the party, was also among entourage of the party chairman to Shao, saying that members of the party are eagerly waiting for outcome of intervention being done by elders of the party into the crisis.

    He called on members of the party to remain calm and embrace peace and love in their dealings.

    Governor Abdulrazeek Abdulrazaq condemned the attack, calling on the police command to fish out all the perpetrators and prosecute them.

    The governor in a statement by his media aide Rafiu Ajakaye described the attack as disturbing.

    “We condemn in strongest terms possible the alleged attack on the state chairman of the APC Hon. Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa allegedly by some hoodlums in Moro local government. This is very disturbing.

    ”The Governor is very proud of the peaceful atmosphere in the state and
    seriously frowns at any action that might heat up the polity under whatever guise.

    “He calls on the security agencies to not just fish out those behind the attack but to also make sure they face the full weight of the law.

    “For the record, the state faces many developmental issues and the Governor has no time for anything that does not add value to the lives of the people he’s been elected to govern.”

    Thugs abduct LG chairman in Oyo

    Some people suspected to be political thugs, on Wednesday abducted the Chairman of Afijio Local Government area of Oyo State, Hon. Samuel Aderemi at the Local Government office.

    Aderemi, who is one of those sacked by Governor Seyi Makinde last year, was abducted by thugs who stormed the council in Jobele, when the Chairman resumed office.

    It was gathered that the rampaging thugs stormed the council Secretariat in an attempt to prevent the sacked Local government chairmen and councillors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from resuming their offices.

    Aderemi, after being beaten to stupor by the hoodlums, was whisked away in a bus to an unknown destination. He was later rescued after two hours by security agents.

    Chairman of the sacked Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye confirmed the kidnap of the council boss to to journalists on Wednesday night.

    Abass-Aleshinloye added that Aderemi is presently recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.

    It was gathered that violence was also recorded in Ibadan North, Ibadan North East Local Governments and Omi Apata Local Council Council Development Authority ( LCDA) where thugs had a field day, causing mayhem, while security agents, comprising of the police and men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were on ground to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

    Edo 2020: Thugs invade venue of Oshiomhole’s rally, burn vehicles, chairs, canopies

    The face-off between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, got messier on Saturday, as unidentified thugs overnight set ablaze vehicles, canopies and chairs parked at the venue to be used for a political rally in Auchi, Estako West local government area.

    The rally which was to hold at an open ground owned by a private individual, was said to have been organised by Oshiomhole to receive some defectors into the APC.

    Sources had it that the suspected thugs who invaded the venue at about 2 am, shot sporadically before they set ablaze over 1000 chairs, the podium, several canopies and two vehicles.

    It was learnt that heavy security was being deployed to the area to forestall further attack.

    A chieftain of the APC in the State who confirmed the incident described it as a new dimension in Edo politics.

    The party chieftain urged security agents to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

    “It is very unfortunate at this time. While we are awaiting the police to do their investigation, we want to say that it is quite unexpected and want the security agents to ensure that those responsible are brought to book, because, it is a new dimension in politicking in Edo state, that nobody can meet peacefully, something that is guaranteed by the Constitution.

    “It’s getting too much, we experienced it in Benin and again we are experiencing it in Auchi. It is very unfortunate.

    “They should let Edo people express their freedom in choosing who rules them. That is our position at this time,” He said.

    Thugs invade Lagos community, destroy 100 shops

    Hundreds of businessmen and women, whose shops are located in the Alakuko and Dalemo areas, which are border communities in Lagos and Ogun states, were surprised on Wednesday as hoodlums demolished the properties.

    Some of the shops were said to have been robbed and the goods in them looted in an operation that lasted about five hours.

    Punch gathered that the hoodlums invaded the area around 1am and sent shivers down the spines of residents of the communities.

    According to an eyewitness, who identified herself simply as Alhaja Oluwadamilola, stated, “The tension created by the hoodlums woke me and I saw them dressed in black threatening to attack anyone who dare come out to confront them.”

    Oluwadamilola stated that when the residents came out in the morning, bloodstains and broken glasses were seen all over the place.

    She said, “The incident happened around 1am; the hoodlums were many and I saw them while peeping through my window. I saw people in black clothes on Dotun Adeyemi Street and they were armed. I heard them saying, ‘Break that shop, everybody come out’; it appeared that they were ready for war and were challenging the residents to come out. Residents were scared and if anybody had come out, they would have finished the person.

    “When some of the shop owners got to their shops this morning, they saw bloodstains on the walls and the glasses of their shops were shattered in pieces. A security guard at Dalemo was seriously injured and is hospitalised. The situation is terrible; they operated from 1am till 5am and took advantage of the situation to steal properties. They destroyed about 100 shops; we are no longer safe.”

    The Chairman, Adalemo-Opeoluwa Community Development Association, Audu Idowu, revealed that the bottles used in smashing shops and residential houses were stolen from a shop in the area and urged the state government to intervene to keep the community safe.

    He stated, “This is a mystery to us. The people who came to attack us on our street were over 100. They burgled someone’s shop in the area and stole bottles and an engine and used the bottles to destroy over 100 shops in the area.

    “They also took advantage of the situation to loot goods from the shops. We want the government to intervene.”

    When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said “When we got the report, we deployed our personnel in the scene of the crime. The whole clash started from a community that falls in Ogun State, which is very close to our division; so, we responded. Some parts of Alakuko, which fall under Lagos State, were also affected.

    “We have arrested three suspects in connection with the crime and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has sent the Special Track Force on Social Miscreants to the area to combat these miscreants until they are totally defeated.”

    Bayelsa PDP primaries turn violent as thugs detonate explosive, engage police in shootout

    Thugs wearing campaign vests of an aspirant have engaged security operatives in a shootout at the accreditation venue of the ongoing governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    The miscreants, chanting the name of the aspirant, were said to have attempted in vain to breach the security at Ijaw House

    They detonated an explosive close to the venue and shot continually at the Ijaw House.

    An innocent teenager, who was said to be running errands, was reportedly hit by a bullet and seen bleeding from his private parts.

    It was gathered that the shooting caused heightened tension around the venue, where a large number of security operatives were deployed to prevent breakdown of law and order.

    Journalists and other observers including some policemen were said to have run to safety as the sound of the gunshots fired by thugs rented the air.

    There were fears of a plot by some aspirants to disrupt the internal election and forced the relocation of the primaries’ to another state.

    Security operatives were said to have received intelligence a few days ago that some aspirants hatched a sinister motive to stop the internal poll.

    Sources said the thugs were brought from Rivers, Delta and other neighbouring states to ferment violence.

    It was gathered that the thugs reinforced and made a second attempt to take over the venue by detonating the explosive but they were repelled by security operatives.

    The explosive was reportedly detonated at the old assembly quarters close to the venue of the primaries.

    The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku is the Returning Officer for the primaries.

    Ishaku assured all aspirants of level-playing ground saying the process would be transparent and credible.

    One of the 21 aspirants from the Restoraton Caucus of the PDP, Mr. Talford Onglo, was said to have stepped down to support the caucus’ adopted aspirant, Senator Douye Diri.

    Supplementary poll: Thugs set electoral materials ablaze in Benue

    Suspected thugs on Saturday set ablaze electoral materials meant for supplementary elections in the entire Azendeshi ward in Chito town of Benue state.

    Chito town is the headquarters of Azendeshi ward with 13,000 voting population.

    The electoral materials were said to have been kept at a public primary school before thugs belonging to one of the political parties overpowered security men and set them ablaze

    There was also reports of a similar situation in part of Kwande local government area as thugs manhandled INEC staff and destroyed electoral materials but the situation was said to have been brought under control.

    Apart from these isolated cases the election was generally peaceful in Benue with a large turnout of voters at various polling units as earlier as 8am.

    As at press time the process was still ongoing in 22 local government areas out of 23 where the rerun exercise is taking place.

  • Supplementary polls: Bauchi govt planning to sponsor thugs in my name, Dogara raises alarm

    Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has put the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and other security agencies on notice of a plot by the Bauchi State government to implicate him in criminal conspiracy.
    In a letter dated Thursday 21st March, 2019, addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, and copied to the Director-General, Department of State Services, the speaker said he was in receipt of credible information of an ongoing plot to plant false evidence in form of branded motorbikes and cars bearing the logo of his party (PDP) and his pictures, which will be used to commit crimes and implicate him in criminal activities.
    He said, “I write to inform the Inspector General of Police that I am in receipt of credible intelligence about an ongoing plot by Bauchi State government to implicate me in a criminal conspiracy.
    “The Bauchi State government has procured hundreds of motorbikes and cars which are being branded in the Government House Bauchi with my pictures and logo of my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and my name inscribed.
    “The plan is that the Bauchi State government will engage some criminal elements and give them the branded motorbikes and cars which they will use to commit crime and thereafter abandon them at the scene so as to implicate me.
    “I am, by this letter, putting the Police and other security agencies on notice so as to be on the watch out for these criminal elements intended to be deployed by Bauchi State Government.

    Thugs invade PW collation centre in Kubwa

    Political thugs raided the PW collation centre in Kubwa of Bwari Area council at about 8.20pm at the ongoing Area council elections in Abuja and carted away electoral materials.
    The collation centre identified as Usuma polling zone housing unit 009 was raided by thugs shooting sporadically into the air.
    According to an eye witness account, all INEC officials and ad-hoc staff were chased away by the thugs who came to the centre in an unmarked vehicle sped off immediately.
    When TNG visited the PW collation it has been deserted but one of the INEC ad-hoc who spoke under the condition of anonymity said” we were had almost finished collation when we heard gunshots at about 8.10pm.
    ” I can’t count the number of the men but they were many shouting that we should leave the centre and most of us ran out of the centre without our personal belongings such as bags and shoes.
    ” They held long rifles and other dangerous weapons and nobody looked back as we all ran out of the centre.
