PDP recruiting thugs to attack collation centres, APC alleges

The All Progressive Congress, APC, has alleged that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has perfected plans to recruit thugs to invade wards and local government collation centres.

Calling on Nigerians to be at alert, the APC, in a statement by the spokesman of its presidential campaign organisation, Festus Keyamo, noted that the PDP is currently recruiting armed thugs and miscreants to attack ward and local government collation centres with the purpose of rendering the election inconclusive.

    Below is the full statement:

A CLARION CALL FOR NATIONWIDE SECURITY ALERT

It has come to our knowledge from insiders within the PDP Campaign Council who are making last-minute efforts to switch allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress that the PDP is currently recruiting armed thugs and miscreants nationwide to attack ward and local government collation centres this evening till the wee hours of tomorrow morning.

The purpose is to disrupt the collation process of the elections nationwide in order to cause crises and make this election inclusive.

As we know, most of these collation centres are usually in schools or other places that are poorly protected. This is, therefore, a clarion call to all law enforcement agencies to mobilise extra armed security to protect all collation centres nationwide.

We also appeal to Nigerians of goodwill and our supporters to provide standby electricity this night at these collation centres.

We also call on all our party agents, supporters and patriotic Nigerians to stick with these election results from the various units up to the State Collation Centres.

There is no cause for any political party at this stage to jubilate or be dejected. Nothing has been won and nothing has been lost. Official results have not been declared. Hence we call for eternal vigilance on the part of our agents and supporters.

We repeat: NOBODY SHOULD JUBILATE NOW AND ABANDON HIS/HER DUTIES. LET US KEEP OUR FEET FIRMLY ON THE GROUND AND STICK WITH OUR ASSIGNED ROLE(S) UNTIL FINAL RESULTS ARE DECLARED BY INEC.

  • Tension in Ogun as thugs disrupt Buhari’s rally

Scores of hoodlums chanting the slogan of a rival opposition governorship candidate on Monday disrupted the Presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and sacked supporters of the Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governorship candidate of APC, from the main bowl of the MKO stadium, Abeokuta.

Other APC members and supporters seated awaiting the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari for planned rally, were also chased away as the thugs hurled stones, shoes and other dangerous weapons at them.

Many were injured in the attacks, forcing thousands of people to leave the stadium while the President is yet to arrive.

In less than 10 minutes, all the seats and positions occupied by Dapo Abiodun supporters and other APC members were deserted as stones and objects hurled by the hoodlums, fell on them in torrents.

Some of the hoodlums were overheard brazenly boasting “this is Ogun and nobody can intimidate us” while throwing stones at the fleeing APC members and supporters of Abiodun.

Not even the announcement of the arrival of the wife of the Vice – President, Dolapo Osinbajo, at the time could elicit respite to the reign of terror unleashed on people.

Outside the stadium, dozens of armed soldiers and other security agencies battled to prevent the entry of another batch of hoodlums who were allegedly hurried to the venue to reinforce their colleagues who had seized the main bowl of the main stadium.

Many were appalled that a Fuji musician called to entertain at the occasion, prodded the hoodlums on with inciting lyrics even as those who ought to ensure orderliness at the venue acted as though they were on holiday.

There was palpable concern over the safety of the APC chieftains such as Senator Gbenga Kaka, Abiodun’s running mate, Noimot Oyedele – Salako, Chief Tolu Odebiyi and others, with many wondering if they were able to leave the stadium unscathed.

  • Thugs invade A’Ibom Assembly as Speaker declares five APC lawmakers seat vacant

There was pandemonium on Monday at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as armed thugs invaded the premises of the assembly complex to stop the sitting of the House.

The hoodlums numbering over a hundred arrived the assembly complex situated at Udo Udoma road, Uyo in the early hours of yesterday and blocked the main entrance to the complex.

The thugs, it was gathered, were mobilized by the five lawmakers who had recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also learnt that the invasion of the Assembly Monday by the hoodlums was aimed at preventing the House from sitting to declare the seats of the five APC lawmakers vacant.

The thugs blocked the main entrance of assembly complex and also disrupted vehicular and human traffic in and out of the complex. They made bonfires and shot sporadically into the air.

But for the intervention of the security operatives, the thugs would have gained entrance to the Hallowed Chamber of the House. However, the hoodlums succeeded in smashing some doors and windows of the assembly complex.

Amid the tension, the assembly, however, went ahead to hold its plenary during which it declared the seats of the five APC lawmakers vacant.

The affected legislators include Idongesit Ituen (Itu), Gabriel Tobby (Etim Ekpo/Ika), Victor Udofia (Ikono), Otobong Ndem (Mkpat Enin), and Nse Ntuen (Essien Udim).

The Speaker of the state house of assembly, Mr. Onofiok Luke said the House took the decision in line with section 109 sub. 1G of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The House also passed a motion urging Governor Udom Emmanuel to name either the Akwa Ibom state University or the Ibom International Airport after a former Governor of the state, Obong Victor Attah in commemoration of his 80th birthday today.

  • Gov Obasaki sent thugs to attack me after I demanded Buhari’s impeachment -Sen. Urhoghide

Senator representing Edo South in the National Assembly, Matthew Urhoghide, yesterday revealed what happened to him after he moved the motion for President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment.

The Senator who said he has no regrets for moving the motion, alleged that the Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Taiwo Akerele, mobilized thugs tojustassault him at the airport on Friday.

He made the assertion while addressing newsmen in his Benin City residence.

Urghogbide said he would seek redress in court and also furnish the Senate that he was molested and humiliated at the Benin Airport over what he said during plenary.

Urhoghide said it was a shame on Nigeria for a boy to hit a serving senator and representative of the people.

He said, “They have promised to deal with me. If not for the State Commissioner of Police who restrained them. I obeyed the Police Commissioner and remained where I was until the governor came.

“We were walking side by side, talking when a boy hit my head and the governor walked away. Before I left Abuja, I knew what was happening and the person responsible for it. I called him to tell him that it was unnecessary but he didn’t pick his calls.

“It would be cowardice for me to abort the journey. I wanted to see what would happen and they displayed their thuggery. I am not cowed by it. I will represent my constituency and do whatever I want to do. Those who beat the PDP State Youth leader were not arrested but he was arrested.

“If this game is not played along the direction that some people want it, then they see you as a deviant. That is what you saw yesterday, asking a riff-raff, a boy of no consequence, to lay his hands on me, an elected representative of the people, a serving Senator, it is a shame on this country.

“They should realise I am a PDP senator. I am in the opposition; I am not a member of the APC. I am at liberty to say anything against the APC government. I am just being objective.

“They had ample time to bring the requests but they didn’t. We could have said more aircraft should be bought. What they have done is rumble jumble. The President has violated the constitution and that is the truth. If anybody is pretending that nothing has been done, the person should go to a mental home. Section 80 has been violated.

“Couldn’t I have spoken? That is what miscreants have misunderstood. I don’t have any regret for what I said. I stand on it. Where did I embarrass the President? Because of selfish interest here and they want to show the President that everybody could be cowed in Edo.

“This is not a war I want to fight on partisan basis. I have immunity on what I say on the floor of the Senate. I am being crucified outside for what I said during plenary. I am going to report back to the Senate. All the security agencies must see the threat I am subjected to because I performed my duty as a Senator,” said
