  • If my daughter tells me she wants to be a stripper, it’s her life- Timaya

If my daughter tells me she wants to be a stripper, it’s her life- Timaya

Timaya is one Nigerian singer who doesn’t hesitate to share his views about issues that are dear to him.

The ‘Plantain boy’ singer known for his unique dancehall sound has been in the music industry for over 10 years.

In a recent chat with Vibesng, the outspoken entertainer was asked If he would allow his daughter to do music, he said: “Whatever makes her happy, 10 or 20 years down the line. If today she tells me daddy I want to be a stripper, that’s her life. I brought her into this world. I just need to make her understand what is good and bad, what is right and wrong. Sometimes what you think is wrong for the child can be good for the child. Imagine, my father wanted me to be a banker, how? That’s not what I wanted to be. I followed my dream. Just imagine if my parents had stopped me. This music that they never wanted me to do is what is taking the whole family somewhere, so, I think I should allow my daughter express herself”.

In 2012, Timaya released a song called ‘Plantain boy’ which details how he sold plantain before he hugged stardom.

Reacting to a question posed to him about the song, Timaya said:”I wouldn’t be talking about it if I didn’t do it. Of course, I sold plantain. From Monday to Fridays I’d go to school, on Saturday mornings my mother would shade a lot of plantains. The whole bunch would be like N1,200 which is like N40 each in smaller bunches. I guess that’s what really affected my height. Imagine carrying that worth of plantain on your head. If you’re blessed sometimes you could see a buyer that would just buy everything. I think I’m happy I did; very happy I did”.

The award winning singer was queried on the biggest sacrifice he has ever made for his music career, he said: “I don’t see anything as the biggest sacrifice. When my father told me he’s going to disown me if I kept doing music, I didn’t care, because my music was more important. He’s not alive today but the music is still there. It’s not that I don’t love my dad, but I can do everything for my career. There’s no biggest sacrifice”.

“Even my daughter sometimes wonders why I make babies if I was not ready to get married yet but I tell her that if I don’t make babies then she won’t be born.

“My life is in stages, I don’t think I want to get married now. It is not something I would want to venture into for now,” he said.

  • Eedris once saved Timaya’s life- Rafioso

Nigerian singer and show promoter, Rafioso has condemned Timaya over his outburst on Instagram targeted at Eedris Abdulkareem.

Recall that Timaya called Eedris Abdulkareem a dirty looking hemp smoker who was cruel to a lot of people when he was at the peak of his music career.

In an Instagram video posted recently, Timaya threw jabs at his former mentor, Eedris Abdulkareem after he condemned him over the quality of music he churns out. Timaya stated that Eedris failed to help his proteges including Rafioso.

However in a recent chat with newsmen, Rafioso debunked Timaya’s claims.

“I was Eedris Abdulkareem’s manager at the time when Timaya was serving under him. If you have heard Eedris hit song,’ Oko Ashewo,’ it was my name, Rafioso, he was calling in the song. Initially I was Eedris’ back-up artiste but when his former manager travelled to the UK, I was in charge.

“There was a time we went for a show at Ogun State University. I was already asleep in my room during the show but I learnt that Timaya insisted that he wanted to perform last after Eedris was done with his performance. The show promoters were not comfortable with the arrangement because Eedris was his boss. Eedris agreed and when he went on stage, the tempo was very high but when it was Timaya’s turn to perform, they were not feeling him anymore. The people began to insult him and Timaya insulted them back.

“When he came down from the stage, the cult boys in the school followed him because they wanted to beat him up. The next thing I heard on my door was a loud bang, it was Eedris at my door shouting that I should wake up because the boys wanted to kill Timaya. We went to where Timaya was and brought him to my room where he slept that night. You can ask Timaya or the show promoter, Offshore, he would tell you the truth. Spydaman was at the show among other artistes. The cult boys began to look for Timaya for insulting them but we hid him in our room. Early in the morning, we had to move out.

“So when I saw what Timaya posted about Eedris, I felt it was like an insult. I don’t know why he called my name and said that I am nowhere to be found. You don’t say that. He should speak for himself and not for me. I am doing very well. I am an artiste and a show promoter; I also have other businesses I am into. I have houses and tenants. I don’t understand why Timaya mentioned my name. I was with Eedris for more than 16 years and he helped me. He showed me love just like he did to everybody.”
