    IGP extends tinted glass permit enforcement

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun,  has approved further extension of ‘’grace period’’ for the enforcement of tinted glass permit  to Oct. 2.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the remark in a statement in Abuja on Monday.

    He said the approval followed a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive.

    Adejobi said that the idea was to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit was issued only to eligible and qualified individuals.

    He added that the extension would also provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.

    “The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms that the authorised platform for the application remains https://possap.gov.ng and advises citizens to disregard any unofficial channels.

    “Members of the public are further encouraged to report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the appropriate police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000,” he said.

    Adejobi commended the public for their cooperation, adding that the Nigeria Police Force would remain committed to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all.

    Police announce date to start enforcing tinted glass permit

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has approved an extension of the grace period for the enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit requirement to Aug. 12.

    The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

    Adejobi said the extension followed several concerns and feedback expressed by the public over the reactivation of the digital Tinted Glass Permit application process.

    “In line with our commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians.

    “Rather, these voices have been instrumental in guiding ongoing reviews of the process to ensure it remains user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all,” he said.

    Adejobi said the extension of enforcement was also intended to give room for additional enhancements and refinements to the application process to ensure that no applicant was unduly disadvantaged.

    ‎According to him, the Nigeria Police Force is actively working to simplify and improve both the physical and contactless application options.

    He said the idea was to enhance verification mechanisms and streamline procedures to reduce delays and eliminate undue inconveniences.

    ‎‎”Members of the public are reminded that the authorised platform for the application and renewal of the Tinted Glass Permit is accessible via ‪http://www.possap.gov.ng.

    “Citizens are also encouraged to report all unauthorised or hidden charges as well as extortion in the course of application or biometric capturing to police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000,” he said.

    Adejobi pledged the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to public safety, digital innovation, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

    He urged the public to continue to cooperate and be patient with the Nigeria Police Force as it carries the reforms.

    Police officers who demanded Tinted glass permit to face trial

    The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State says that the three police officers, who demanded a tinted glass permit from motorists are facing trial for professional misconduct.

    The Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), SP. Tunni Ayuba, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

    She identified the errant officers as ASP Kenedy Ereoah, Insp. Ademiluyi Adekunle and Insp. Ayo Gbenga.

    Ayuba said that the men were not kidnappers, but officers attached to the Zone 2 Command.

    “The attention of the Police in Zone 2 Command was drawn to a viral video posted by ‘X’ user with the handle @EmmCee_RNB on Jan. 25, where three men claiming to be police officers attached to the command demanded a tinted glass permit from a motorist.

    “The tweet was responded to, while investigation into the identities of the officers commenced.

    “The trio are all attached to the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

    “Contrary to the claim that they are kidnappers, they were on official duty but acted unprofessionally.

    ‘The officers defaulted and are presently being tried for flouting the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on tinted glass permit,” she said.

    Ayuba urged the affected motorist to contact her for further action.

    “For the purpose of transparency, the command wishes to request that the affected member of the public contact the ZPPRO via GSM No. 08100025614 for further action, ” she said.

    According to her, the Assistant Inspector General of Police has called for calm while reassuring residents of Lagos State and Ogun of the safety and security of their lives and property as they go about their lawful businesses.

    Police arrests officer in viral video for harassing motorist over tinted-glass permit

    The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested one Insp Dele Reuben who was captured by in a video harassing a motorist over the now-suspended-tinted-glass permit.

    The Command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

    He said that the officer was currently undergoing disciplinary procedures at the State Police Headquarters, Ikeja.

    “The policeman harassing a motorist in a video that has gone viral is undergoing orderly room trial.”

    Hundeyin said that Reuben’s arrest came on the heels of the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, that the errant officer be identified, arrested and decisively dealt with.

    “It is pertinent to reiterate that issuance of tinted-glass permit remains suspended by the force management to enable an upgrade of the tinted-glass-permit portal.

    “In effect, while all existing-tinted-glass permits remain valid, issuance of new permits is yet to resume,” the spokesman said.

    Hundeyin reiterated the CP’s zero tolerance for harassment, extortion and abuse of rights of the citizens if the state by any police officers.

    He assured the general public that the police command in the state under his watch would continually strengthen its internal disciplinary mechanisms.

    Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, reiterated the ban on officers across the country from demanding Customs papers from drivers.

     

    In a tweet, Adejobi also said officers should stop demanding tinted glass permit.

     

    According to him, tinted glass permit remains suspended across the country.

     

    He tweeted, “No policeman should demand your customs papers. Except they are on joint operation, but not just on mere routine checks.

     

    “We have suspended issuance of tinted glass permits, so we don’t expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this.

     

    “We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search the vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay for not having tinted glass permits.”
