  • BREAKING: Tinubu wades in, saves Ambode from impeachment

Normalcy has returned to the All Progressives Congress, Lagos State chapter as the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu waded into the conflict between the executive and legislative body.

Tinubu at a special Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC) meeting held in Marina, Lagos, on Sunday told leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos have asked the state assembly to drop the move to impeach Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor.

Among those who attended the meeting were the governor, Idiat Adebule, his deputy; Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the APC; Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker; Wasiu Eshinlokun, deputy speaker; and Tajudeen Olusi, an APC leader in Lagos Island.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Tinubu said: “We held a meeting on behalf of entire Lagosians. In the last week or so, there has been some talk about a conflict between the executive and the legislature in Lagos. This is of great concern to us. We looked at the source of the conflict, which is normal in a democracy, and that is why there are also conflict-resolution mechanisms.

“We examined the grievances on both sides. As leaders, we also looked into areas where there has to be compromised. In order to build institutions and encourage consensus-building, we have to do what is right. There is no impeachment. Let there be more communication and consensus-building and understanding. All these are inbuilt in the democratic system.

“We thank the speaker and the leadership of the house. We thank the governor and the deputy governor. They have all demonstrated respect for the party leadership in Lagos. You know when Lagos sneezes, other areas catch a cold. We are happy that we are able to resolve the conflict and things will start moving well going forward.”

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Olusi said he his optimistic that both arms of government will work amicably henceforth.

“The APC leader has spoken. This is just to further confirm the decisions that we reached,” he said.

“Conflict is an institutional part of the governance. The executive and legislature must work together. We have reached a decision that they must work together amicably. And very soon, both the legislature and the executive must resolve the grey areas in their relationship.”

The lawmakers had threatened to oust the governor over the 2019 budget, accusing him of incurring expenses from it without presenting it before the assembly.

  • Obasanjo is an election rigger seeking return to Aso Villa by hook, crook – Tinubu

Obasanjo is an election rigger seeking return to Aso Villa by hook, crook – Tinubu

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has taken his turn at lashing out at Olusegun Obasanjo over the the former president’s criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Tinubu, the co-chair of Mr Buhari’s campaign for re-election, said Mr Obasanjo lacks the moral compass to criticise the current administration.

“The worst of Obasanjo’s record, I have yet to describe. When it comes to elections, he has been a rigger without peer,” Mr Tinubu said in his response Tuesday titled ‘Chief Obasanjo – At War Against His Own Deeds.’

“There is no election which occurred under Obasanjo’s watch or in which he participated that did not involve cheating on his part.

Mr Tinubu’s attack on the former president came barely two days after Mr Obasanjo issued a scathing criticism of the President Buhari-led administration accusing the president of plotting to rig the forthcoming general elections.

In the 16-page letter he titled ‘Point of for Concern and Action,’ Mr Obasanjo, a retired army general, said the president has failed in all aspects of governance including on the war against insurgency.

In his attack on Mr Obasanjo, Mr Tinubu strongly disagreed with the former president’s claims that Mr Buhari had returned the country to the heady days of the country’s maximum dictator, Sani Abacha.

“If this were true, the press would be constantly closed. Obasanjo would be constricted in writing such letters. Elections would not be upon us. Atiku would not be able to freely campaign and the diversity of opinion in the public space would be suppressed,” said Mr Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor.

“For Obasanjo to utter such an outrage is that he hopes lightning strikes twice. He was ushered into office after Abacha’s demise. He thinks if he can invoke Abacha’s name, the same thing will happen again.”

    Tinubu’s letter in full:

“CHIEF OBASANJO – AT WAR AGAINST HIS OWN DEEDS”.

It is as follows: “Former President Obasanjo is many things to many people; but he is all things unto himself. His recent contribution to our political discourse wherein he alleges plots to steer the coming elections shows he benefits from an exceedingly faulty memory, is purely shameless or has a most wicked sense of humor. Perhaps all three are facets of his makeup and were equally on display in his latest prosaic display.

“The crux of his long tirade was the allegation that INEC is poised to cook the election results. Chief Obasanjo should not get his dander up and waste good ink for nothing. This election will be a free and open exercise of the people’s right to choose their leaders. Obasanjo makes fiery allegations against this right but offers no corroborating evidence; he presents only reams of words. This is because Obasanjo is projecting onto the APC the misconduct he would wrought if still in power. Yet, the ways of Obasanjo are not those of the APC. And this difference has meant the better for Nigeria.

“Moreover, Chief Obasanjo should be the last to complain about election rigging. His administration was an unalloyed miscarriage of justice and of the best aspirations of the Nigerian people. We all know he was not elected in 1999. He was handed Nigeria on a silver platter; perhaps because Nigeria was so easily given that he went about treating the nation as if it was a less than precious thing; he thought it was a cheap give-away not a privilege to govern this nation.

“This man should have positioned himself to be the father of the nation. All the goodwill that could be granted a political figure was bestowed on him. The global economy was such that it fueled our growth. Everyone wanted Nigeria to succeed after emerging from years of noxious military rule. Despite the flawed exercise that rendered him president, we all bit our tongues in hope that he would say and do the right things that would move Nigeria forward.

“Instead of being a unifying figure as Commander-in-chief, he lowered himself to being a divisive, vindictive conniver. There was no table which he neared that he did not upset and overturn. There was no one who came into his company for any period of time with whom he did not fall out if he expresses a thought contrary to one of his.

“He tried to convert our young democracy into a one party state. His PDP boasted that they would rule for 60 uninterrupted years. Never did they boast that they would govern us well during even one year of the sixty. He could have placed the economy on the path to durable growth and shared prosperity through diversification, industrialization and creation of a social safety net for the poor. Instead, he handed the economy over to a tight group of cronies, turning what should be a modern economy into a version of the mammoth trading companies that dominated the 17th and 18th century. The Transcorp conglomerate was intended to be a throwback to monopolistic enterprises such as the East Indian Company wherein a select handful would control the national economy’s strategic heights.

“We hoped that Obasanjo would personify statesmanship, thus showing the way to a more benign political culture. Instead, he bickered and feuded with his vice president and mostly anyone who dared remind him that he was human and thus infallible.

“Given the vast margin between the good he could have achieved and the nebulous feats that comprise his true record, Chief Obasanjo is the person most responsible for the flaws in the Nigerian political economy since 1999. His ego is as expansive as the firmament but his good deeds would fit into a modest sachet with ample room to spare.

“The worst of Obasanjo’s record, I have yet to describe. When it comes to elections, he has been a rigger without peer. There is no election which occurred under Obasanjo’s watch or in which he participated that did not involve cheating on his part. Even the late President Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua admitted he was the beneficiary of a flawed election engineered by none other than today’s vociferous complainant. For Obasanjo to lament over electoral malpractice is tantamount to the ocean complaining that a few raindrops are causing it to get wet.

“In his writing, Obasanjo alleges the Osun election indicates rigging will take place in the coming contests. Let’s go straight to the truth, Obasanjo has no grievance with the process. His personal history suggests fair process is the least of his concerns. What knocks Obasanjo off kilter is that he could not dictate the result in Osun. He told those in the PDP that he held sway in Osun and throughout the Southwest. They believed him. He led them to defeat notwithstanding the almost impossible voter turnout in PDP strongholds in that state. Obasanjo can only win an election when has the final say over the final vote tally. Otherwise, he is a troubled man.

“In an attempt to relieve his trouble, Chief Obasanjo makes reference to a joke about INEC. He says, “The INEC was asked if the Commission was ready for the election and if it expects the election to be free, fair and credible. The INEC man is reported as saying in response, ‘we are ready with everything including the results.’” The joke has a touch of humor; we are glad that Obasanjo is not completely devoid of this most human of traits. However, he makes a telling omission by failing to give you the vintage of this bit of sarcasm.

“The jest was not born last week. It’s vintage is circa 2003- a time when a certain President Obasanjo rode roughshod over INEC. He would summon the nervous INEC chairman to the Villa, proceeding to hector the man until he gave way to Obasanjo’s demands. At Obasanjo’s urging, INEC improperly published fake election results on the gubernatorial race in Lagos. Not until a public outcry did INEC back away from rigging Lagos. A similar attempt was made in Lagos in 2007. In essence, for Obasanjo to laugh at this joke means he has belatedly developed the ability to laugh at himself.

“If Obasanjo was so committed to free elections, how could he countenance Atiku’s recent boast of single-handedly rigging elections in the Southwest. Atiku claimed that he took all states for the PDP but left Lagos alone due to some misguided affinity for me. By this statement, Atiku publicly admitted to rigged elections in the SW. Beyond resort to wholesale rigging, Atiku could never deign to be more popular and potent in the Southwest than the panoply of good and decent leaders that guided the defunct AC. Moreover, I can assure you that we did not need Atiku’s false beneficence to win the elections in Lagos. The people voted for us and their votes countered the ill-designs Obasanjo and Atiku set in motion. Thus, if Obasanjo cannot chastise Atiku for publicly boasting that he rigged elections, then Obasanjo’s display of righteous indignation is but a magician’s trick.

“His fine words and sentiments come a dozen years too late. These noble things would have greater effect had he placed them into practice when he was at the helm of affairs. At that time, he was powerful so he did as he might. Now that he lacks power, he has taken to preach that which he never did.

“In his commentary, he mentions that INEC has a record of past rigging. I wonder if he understands the admission he makes. No other president has exercised such tight control over INEC for as many years as Obasanjo. No president has had the domineering relationship with INEC that Obasanjo enjoyed. If there are reports of past INEC rigging, those reports are of Obasanjo’s making. It is the irony of ironies for Obasanjo to complain of the fruit on the table when his was the hand that planted the tree.

“Chief Obasanjo tries to further confuse matters by pointing to the case of the CJN’s assets declaration as evidence of future vote-rigging via tampering with the judiciary. Again, Obasanjo goes into a personality shift. For years, Obasanjo has boasted of himself as our corruption fighter nonpareil. The very aim of this current letter is to attack imagined INEC malfeasance. Yet, with regard to the CJN, he blithely ignores the large cache of dollars in the CJN’s account and the millions of dollars that passed through the accounts. Obasanjo seems unbothered by the unexplained presence of such sums. Perhaps Obasanjo’s nonchalance regarding the money is that he expected the funds there because he knows both the origin and reasons for the trove.

“Chief Obasanjo sinks so low as to suggest that the VP, during the exercise of his official duties, was taking the PVC numbers of market women and traders. This statement reveals the bilious nature of the man. Obasanjo even quotes the notorious Bode George in claiming that the VP was “gutting our collective treasury” by giving loans of N10,000 to market women under the administration’s empowerment programs.

“What? Giving money to poor people to enhance their lives and escape the maw of poverty is, by PDP metrics, gutting the collective treasury. If helping the poor is gutting the treasury, Atiku’s privatizing large chunks of the economy into his own pocket must have been seen by the PDP as a vital public service. Jonathan and his Petroleum Minister’s siphoning government coffers of several billion dollars to enrich the already-rich must have been viewed by the PDP as the epitome of a social safety net. Obasanjo’s and the PDP’s disdain for the common person could not be clearer.

“Obasanjo should be ashamed to even raise this issue. When he was president, the economy was on an easy sledding due to positive global trends. Obasanjo did not raise a finger to do anything for the poor. He and Atiku were champions of trickle-down economics. If anything good trickled down to the poor it was by accident. Obasanjo left the poor unattended because he cared nothing for them. Poverty increased under his cold indifference. Not one meaningful social program was established during his watch. The banking and pension deregulation he brought were geared to profit the wealthy CEO’s and managers of these financial entities. The malpractices attendant to these deregulation fiascos extinguished the savings of millions of Nigerians. In reliance on these artifices of Obasanjo and his ilk, many Nigerians were thrust down the lower rungs of the poverty they so desperately sought to avoid. Obasanjo’s allies gobbled the savings of the poor and still feast on them to this day.

“Chief Obasanjo is one of the last people to preach to anyone about using public funds to care for the poor. He had the gall to fret that funds should not be given to the urban poor because they are not poor enough. But his grouse does not show any defect in the administration’s program. His complaint shows the defect in Obasanjo’s humanity or lack of it. To complain that some people are not poor enough for his liking is to reveal that seeing human suffering does not motivate him to cure it. He would rather that people suffer it the more. Your unease and distress becomes his entertainment or at least evidence he is superior to the common man. Watching a laborer struggle against penury is no more than a spectator sport for Obasanjo.

“The most fantastic of all his claims is that this administration has returned Nigeria to the days of Abacha. If this were true, the press would be constantly closed. Obasanjo would be constricted in writing such letters. Elections would not be upon us. Atiku would not be able to freely campaign and the diversity of opinion in the public space would be suppressed.

“For Obasanjo to utter such an outrage is that he hopes lighting strikes twice. He was ushered into office after Abacha’s demise. He thinks if he can invoke Abacha’s name, the same thing will happen again. By hook, crook or utter fantasy, Obasanjo seeks to return to Aso Villa, not as an irritating, importuning guest but as a long-term resident. He wants to be back in control. If he cannot be president, then the president better carve from his office a special room for Obasanjo.

“Obasanjo thinks he is more than the greatest Nigerian. He thinks himself greater than Nigeria itself. Unless he is allowed to lead the procession, he will groan, grouse and grit. However, neither President Buhari nor the progressive APC have much use for his reactionary policies and his megalomaniac ways. Thus, we shall be forced to endure more of his letters. But enduring such missives is vastly superior and small price to pay for not having to endure a repeat of his unenlightened misgovernance”.

  • Obasanjo is an expired leader – Tinubu

Obasanjo is an expired leader – Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, on Monday described Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo as one of the “expired leaders” who should have retired to his Ota Farm and remain quiet.

Tinubu, who spoke at Ramat Square Complex, Maiduguri, Borno State boasted that if the association of persons he described as “angry old men” refused to vote Buhari, he would still get 95% of votes.

Tinubu said, “It is unfortunate that expired leaders like Olusegun Obasanjo is ranting and lying. Don’t trust him. We are sweeping all the cobwebs of corruption away with broom out of Nigeria. Ota Farm should be enough a retirement place for Obasanjo.”

Tinub’s wordst, “Who among Nigerians will recall how the PDP government under Obasanjo had been notorious for rigging elections?

“No government has upheld the tenets of democracy like the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. We asked for the recognition of June 12 from Obasanjo, he refused; but President Muhammadu Buhari, as an honest man with integrity, heard our cry and recognised June 12.

“Even if the Forum of Association of Angry Old Men refuses to vote for Buhari, we will give him 95 percent votes.”

APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said Obasanjo’s “attack” was done “out of frustration” when he said that the South-South which used to be the stronghold of PDP had “caught the Buhari fever.”

He said Obasanjo was “unsettled” when he saw what happened in Delta State during the APC campaign there, and “hurriedly went to the toilet for five times due to running stomach.”

Oshiomhole said: “The people writing epistle now watched how money meant for security was appropriated by not only the PDP but Generals.

“Under their watch, over 20 local government areas of Borno State were taken over by the Boko Haram terrorists before the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Today, no matter what they want to say, there is no local government where Boko Haram is hoisting their flag. All the 27 local government areas of Borno have been liberated by APC government.”

Speaking, Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, said that under the PDP government, his security details were withdrawn as a result of “impunity.”

He added that due to the PDP’s “rigging formula,” votes did not count in South South during election, and that election results were based on party’s wishes.

In his remarks, the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, assured President Muhammadu Buhari of over two million votes from Borno State.

“We in Borno don’t know any other party than the APC. Allah brought President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver people of Borno from the hands of our oppressors.”

President Muhammadu Buhari who addressed the crowd in Hausa thanked them for their support and restated the commitment of his administration to the fight against corruption, insecurity, and improvement of the economy if re-elected.

  • Tinubu, Oshiomhole blast Obasanjo over letter to Buhari, tag him ‘expired leader’

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has described ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as one of the “expired leaders” that should have retired to his Ota Farm and remain quiet.

He boasted that if the association of persons he described as “angry old men” refuses to vote Buhari, he’ll still get 95% of votes.

  • I’m no longer safe in my office-Tinubu

The Senate, yesterday, directed the National Assembly management to investigate all burglary issues that had been reported so far, and furnish the leadership of the chamber with the outcome of its investigations as soon as possible.

The Senate made the resolution following a point of order raised by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC, Lagos Central), who drew the attention of the Senate to a burglary case that occurred in her office while the National Assembly was still in the New Year break.

Tinubu, while raising the point of order, expressed apprehension that she was no longer feeling safe in her National Assembly office, following a burglary incident that occurred there during the Christmas and New Year recess.

The lawmaker, who came under Order 43 (personal explanation), had raised the alarm that the incident in her office was giving her serious concern. She said: “We were closed for the Christmas break on 21st December 2018.

However, my office had been closed on the 7th December, as I had constituency engagements and town hall meetings scheduled for the period. “On Wednesday, 9th January, 2019, my staff upon resumption noticed some anomalies, prompting an inspection. It was discovered that one HP laptop computer, CCTV camera box, one Smile Internet device and copies of Laws of the Federation had been carted away. “I have been in the Senate for the past eight years.

Usually, we know what happens when we are on break when a lot of stuff happens; we come back and don’t find television. And this time, the occurrence is worrisome because this is the time we are all going for election and right now, I don’t feel safe in my office. “Subsequently, a report was lodged at the Police Post of the National Assembly.”

She, therefore, urged the Senate to direct the National Assembly management to replace all the items stolen in her office. In his remarks, the Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, shocked his colleagues when he revealed how some thieves broke into the luxury car of a senator and stole huge sums of money. Ekweremadu, who revealed the ugly development while reacting to Tinubu’s point of order, lamented that the multimillion naira Close Circuit Television (CCTV) device installed in the National Assembly was not working as at the time the incident quesoccurred.

The DSP sympathised with Tinubu, but noted that the incident in her office was not an isolated matter because a similar incident happened in the House of Representatives. He said: “A colleague came for a transaction and left some money in his car during the Christmas break. Some people broke into the car and removed some money.

“Since he parked his car close to the main Senate complex, he thought that the CCTV camera would capture the activities of the burglars, but regrettably, the CCTV did not work when it was checked and it is really embarrassing.” He, therefore, directed the National Assembly management to investigate all burglary issues that had been reported so far, and furnish the leadership of the federal parliament with the outcome of its investigations as soon as possible

  • Buhari, Tinubu, Fayemi, others greet Bisi Akande at 80

President Muhammadu Buhari, All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday joined members of the ruling party to congratulate the first Interim Chairman of the party and former governor of Osun State, Chief Abdukareem Adebisi Akande on his 80th birthday.

The President congratulated Pa Akande, his family and friends for his laudable achievements over the years, which threw him into the limelight at an early age, particularly highlighting his sacrifices in public service at the state and national levels.

The President noted that as the first Interim Chairman of the APC, the former governor’s pivotal and visionary leadership prepared the party for history in 2015.

He said this led to the unseating of an incumbent President for the first time in any election in Nigeria.

In a statement by his Special Adviser (SA) on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, the President extolled Pa Akande’s loyalty and faithfulness to the party and the cause of building a strong and unified nation, as he consistently challenges governments and leaders to higher ideals and reminds them to think out of the box in meeting the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

President Buhari added that he believed that the octogenarian’s good-nature, large heart and broad outlook on issues have impacted positively on party politics and democracy in Nigeria.

The President prayed God to grant him longer life, strength and wisdom to serve more.

Asiwaju Tinubu described Pa Akande as “a compassionate human being, an example of decorum in any circumstance and a principled leader possessed of profound judgment and a sage’s wisdom”.

The former Lagos State governor prayed God Almighty to grant the celebrant “many more years so that he can continue to help this nation”.

He added: “May he continue to stand forth as an example to young leaders and may his wise counsel and civic virtue help to guide and shape this nation.”

Fayemi described Pa Akande as a living legend and perfect example of talent and hard work.

In a congratulatory letter to the celebrant, the governor said he considered it a great privilege to work and walk with the former APC Interim National Chairman, whom he described as a man of integrity.

He described Pa Akande as a pride and leading light of the progressive school of thought, “a true, committed, passionate and loyal Awoist deserving of all admiration”.

Fayemi said: “I celebrate you today as always because you have been a great boss and a wonderful mentor. I will forever cherish the chance of working and walking with you to make life more meaningful for our people. Thank God for giving me this priceless opportunity and thank you for being there to nurture me with your infectious patience and humility.

  • 2019: CUPP doubts Buhari’s fitness, asks him to take over campaign from Tinubu

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to outsource his campaign to the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, if he is fit for the nation’s top job.

The CUPP also accused the APC of plotting to rig the 2019 elections and plunge the nation into avoidable crisis.

Addressing journalists at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, CUPP chairman, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said Buhari would go down in history as the first President to hire a proxy in a presidential contest.

The CUPP, which consisted of over 46 political parties, said Buhari must debate against its presidential candidate and account for his stewardship to Nigerians.

Oyinlola said, “President Buhari has, indeed, said Senator Bola Tinubu would do the campaigns on his behalf. We hope he was misquoted. Otherwise, Nigerians should simply ask him to step back from the contest and let his party put Tinubu forward as its candidate.

Buhari would go down as the first candidate in history to hire a proxy in a presidential contest. He is the one contesting, he should not be afraid to be the one to interface directly with Nigerians.”

Oyinlola added, “We urge Nigerians to insist that President Buhari must show that he is fit and able for the nation’s top job by leading his own campaign and by being at the presidential candidates’ debate.”

The CUPP chairman stated that the refusal of the President to sign the Electoral Act Amendment bill into law was part of plans to manipulate the polls.

He pointed out that the amendments were made in order to have better legal frameworks for delivery of free and fair elections, in accordance with Article 6 of the ECOWAS Protocol which states that “The preparation and conduct of elections and the announcement of results shall be done in a transparent manner.”

Quoting Article 2(1) of the ECOWAS Protocol, the former military administrator argued that the the amendments to electoral laws could be done “but such amendments must be with the consent of a majority of political actors.

We, therefore, see the President’s decision not to sign the bill as a direct, open threat to the integrity of the elections and it is not funny.

We call on him, therefore, to have a rethink and sign the bill into law without any further delay.”

  • Burglars invade Tinubu’s office, cart away laptop, other items

Some suspected burglars on Thursday invaded the National Assembly office Senator Oluremi Tinubu (representing APC, Lagos Central) in Abuja carting away some items from her office.

Recall that Oluremi is wife to Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

A statement made available to journalist by her legislative aide, Nifemi Aje, said the incident was discovered on Wednesday as her staff resumed work.

It was discovered that the unknown burglars quietly tampered with the inner office through which they accessed the office.

    The CCTV was demobilised.

Items removed included an HP laptop computer, Smile internet device, machine box attached to CCTV HP screen and some copies of Laws of the Federation,” the statement read.

The aide said ‘traces of footsteps’ were discovered on the office rug and the wall cabinet was left disorganised.

Although the perpetrators of the burglary or thier sponsors are unknown, Aje said a report of the incident has already been lodged at the police post at the National Assembly who assured that investigation has commenced into the matter.

We are, however, waiting for the outcome of police investigation into the matter,” the official said.

  • 2019: Buhari hands-over APC campaign to Tinubu, says government is suffering

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday disclosed that he will handing over leadership of the 2019 Presidential Campaign Council of the ruling All Progress Congress (APC) to the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Buhari made the remark while inaugurating the Campaign Council, for which himself and Tinubu are co-chairmen.

The President urged all the leadership of the campaign, including the field operations, the campaign trail and the Secretariat to consult with Asiwaju Tinubu whenever guidance is needed.

He said: “Even though we have only 40 days, this campaign is going to task us all because we intend to touch all corners of our great and vast country.

But I must also add that, though we will all be deeply involved, I would like to assure the nation that I will do my part without making governance or my work suffer.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my co-chairman, will be fully in charge, and is going to be on 24-hour vigil.

That is to say, the operational buck of this campaign stops at his table, and I, therefore, urge all of us in the leadership of this campaign, in the field operations on the campaign trail and in the secretariat to consult with Asiwaju whenever guidance is needed.”

The President implored the Council leaders to resist being provoked, remain focused and civil in the campaigns.

Let us engage our citizens on issues and ask for reflection on the comparative difference between 2015 and 2019 on security, economy and corruption and abuse by those entrusted with leadership in Nigeria.” he said

Buhari also acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of all stakeholders who have endeavoured to keep the APC united and making the APC governance successful.

I urge members of this formidable team to always keep their eyes on the ball, which is the success of our party at the polls. I wish to appeal to all members to be guided by the enduring vision behind the formation and sustenance of our party, which is anchored, on sacrifice and imperative to salvage and stabilize our great and promising nation.”

He appealed to all members, especially those who are in the campaign council, to unite and cooperate and ensure a smooth operation.

He added: “Needless to add, Directorates could co-opt on full or part-time basic persons who could add value to our campaign and help us to attain success.

To my mind, the division of responsibility is clear enough. The Leadership that has formulated the campaign policy will supervise its execution; the Director-General will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the campaign, including field operations; while the Secretary will be responsible for all administrative and treasury-related activities of the council.”

2019: Oshiomhole, Tinubu absent as Buhari inaugurates Aisha’s campaign team

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole and its national leader Bola Tinubu were conspicuously absent on Thursday afternoon as President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated a campaign team formed and led by his wife, Aisha.

Recall that there have been reports of how the president’s wife, Buhari, in an unprecedented move, announced the campaign teamwhich will work alongside the official Presidential Campaign Council.

The campaign team is described as women and youth campaign team for the 2019 election.

The inauguration, which is holding at the Banquet Hall of the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja, began some few minutes after 3 p.m.

The team to be inaugurated is chaired by the president’s wife, Aisha, and co-chaired by the wife of the vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo.

Recall that President Buhari chairs the official APC Presidential Campaign Council. The council is co-chaired by Tinubu and they are assisted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Oshiomhole.

Recall also that Aisha Buhari had publicly criticised the APC and Oshiomhole over the handling of the parties primaries which led to massive defections to rival political parties across the country.
