  • Hardship: ‘Our logo isn’t honey, sugar..it is broom to sweep away PDP’s 16 years of corruption – Tinubu

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday advised Nigerians to unite with the Muhammadu Buhari in fighting corruption, stressing journey is, however, not going to be an easy one.

He said: “We came as APC leaders with a lot of hope. We were discussing. We believe in ourselves and Nigeria, that we can change Nigeria. And we are still going to do it again. It came with challenges. Our logo is not honey or sugar, but broom; a united Nigeria against terrorism, corruption, insecurity and for the revival of the economy.”

Speaking at his 66th birthday’s colloquium in Lagos, the former lagos State governor described the apology tendered last week by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus as “deceitful”, meant to hoodwink Nigerians to get a political advantage.

He said the apology cannot change the effect of the damage already done to the economy.

”Nigerians should not accept PDP’s apologies, they are corrupt, they lied, they falsified, they changed figures.

“For 16 years, they made fake promises, gave us fake figures, and they tell us, ‘Don’t talk about it’.

“It is like, after catching a thief and he tells you, ‘Don’t look at me, go and steal your own’. We are soldering on. We have a good leader to rely on. We have hope.”

At the colloquium, which is the 10th edition, were President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, host Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and many other governors, lawmakers, ministers, past governors, past ministers, traditional rulers, top industrialists and other categories of people and associates of the celebrator.

The former governor also chided (although without making direct reference to him) former President Olusegun Obasanjo for writing a letter advising President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest in 2019, besides castigating his administration.

Tinubu said it was was full of bile.

He added: “My grandmother used to send me to a letter writer. Someone is writing letters these days, a letter of politics as if they have never been there before. Bad belle letters.

“The ship of state was about to wreck, but President Buhari steered the ship back. The voyage is the voyage of hope. We are reinventing and re-directing Nigeria. It is not an easy voyage to embark on.”

An excited Tinubu was full of praises for the President, the vice president, governors, legislators and other dignitaries who came to honour him. He also thanked his wife, Oluremi, “for tolerating hme”, adding that she had no choice.

He applauded Ambode for his exceptional commitment to the progress and economic development of Lagos State.

In an obvious reference to the endorsement of the governor for a second term by stakeholders, Tinubu said after many work, “the result is more work”.

He also hailed the cordial relations between the governor and his deputy, Dr. Idiat Adebule.

Acknowledging Ambode’s achievements, Tinubu said: “I can see what the government is doing with so little. It has produced results.”

The former governor traced the genesis of the Buhari administration to the epic battle to effect a change in the polity, stressing that Nigeria has reaped the dividends.

Tinubu disagreed with people who said the APC should stop reminding Nigerians about the corrupt activities of the Jonathan administration. He said a great lesson could be learnt from the perfidy of the former ruling party.

He said: “They say we should not talk about corruption. What should we talk about? If we don’t talk about it, what is the lesson to all Nigerians?”

Tinubu, who thanked Nigerians for their patience and support for the APC government, said the PDP should not return to power to continue what he called the looting of the economy.

He added: “Forget those parties. They won’t come back. We did not envisage that there would be no such challenges. So, we report back to Nigerians about what we found on ground. We did not say that there would be no challenges because, even America is facing challenges.

“PDP looted and wasted our resources. They misused our resources. There is a clear understanding here. There is a difference between us and them, a difference between night and day.”

  • We’ll keep talking about corruption perpetrated under Jonathan, PDP – Tinubu, Osinbajo

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have said they will continue to talk about the corruption perpetrated under the sixteen-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party and that of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in particular.

They stated this on Thursday at the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Lagos, where the 66th birthday of the former governor of Lagos State was commemorated.

Osinbajo, who described corruption as an existential problem for Nigeria, said, “The corruption of the previous five years destroyed the economy.”

“They say don’t talk about it. What should we talk about? If we are not talking about it, then what is the lesson to Nigerians?” Tinubu said.

Tinubu also noted that the party under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari won’t be derailed in its ultimate task of fixing Nigeria.

Tinubu while giving his speech lambasted past leaders and political parties who according to him had all the resources to fix the country but preferred to waste and loot it dry.

In an obvious reference to a letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him not to seek reelection, the APC leader said President Buhari won’t be derailed by such ‘political letter writers’ who had had their chances of fixing the country but ended up messing it up than they met it.

“We want to thank Nigerians for their patience for the past few years that the APC assumed power. The challenges are more than we imagined but we are more determined to surmount them. We won’t be derailed by those who now specializes in writing political letters as if they were not part of those that plunged us to our current sorry state. I won’t talk about that letter thing today. I shall find time to attend to it because I am happy that you have given me the best birthday present ever,’ Tinubu said to the admiration of participants at the event.

Dignitaries at the event include; President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, State governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, business moguls and others.

  • Tinubu attacks opposition: ‘Forget PDP, they won’t come back; Ignore Obasanjo’s ‘bad-belle’ letter’

Challenges in Nigeria:Our logo is not honey, sugar…it is broom

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Thursday lashed out at former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the People Democratic Party, PDP for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari led government.

Speaking at own colloquium, an annual high-powered policy round table to mark his 66th anniversary, Tinubu said, the PDP are like thief caught, but they say don’t talk about what I stole, go and steal your own.

“They don’t want us to talk about what they did, so what should we be talking about”

He added that his party, APC never promised honey and sugar, acknowledging that Nigeria is truly passing through its own challenges while urging Nigeria to shun critics of Buhari led-government.

“Our logo ius not honey or sugar…it is broom, and it is meant to sweep away corruption.” He noted.

The high-point was when he described the controversial letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as one emanating from a insincere critic – The wrote a bad-belle letter as if they have never been there before.

“All nations face their challenges, never said we will not be challenged…we will keep talking about the corruption of the past administrations. There is a clear understanding here, the difference between us and them is nigh and day”

Meanwhile, at the occasion, Buhari said his government is resolute to set Nigeria on a positive growth.

Buhari who hailed Tinubu as he clocked 66, described the former Lagos governor as his brother and friend prayed God grant him long years to serve his country.

He added, “Asiwaju is a political strategist, he sets himself apart, I have come to see him as a true humanitarian and appreciates his contribution to Nigeria and Africa at large.

On his own side, Osinbajo added that no country in the world will allow its resources to be plundered the way it is done in Nigeria. That is why we are determined to fight corruption.

“And the way we are fighting corruption, it is obvious that corruption will want to fight back, but we won’t give up.

“The criminal looting of this country cannot be allowed to continue and those who did it must be held to account.

“The majority of our people depend on the integrity of those who govern them. It is our historic duty to make sacrifices that are necessary to lead the people, we are not an elite government, we have taken the side of the people.

Osinbajo also commended Tinubu, describing him as a man known to be resilient in fighting for the people. I believe the future of our country is getting better and better every day.

The Bola Tinubu Colloquium has over the years become a veritable ground for sharing knowledge, experiences and information around socio- economic issues and addressing the common governance challenges confronting Nigeria.

The initiative was conceived in 1999 by Tinubu’s close friends and associates, who felt that some of the very rich and stimulating intellectual debates that hallmarked some of the meetings at which he presided should be translated to a platform which would expand the conversation and lead to tangible outcomes.

  • Buhari’s rejection of Oyegun’s tenure extension shows commitment to democratic reforms – Tinubu

A national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s clear stance on rejection of the tenure elongation of members of the National Working Committee.

Recall that the president on Tuesday stated that those who wish to retain their positions or aspire for another should resign and re-contest in line with the party’s and Nigerian constitution.

In his words: “I think it is important for me to speak on the contentious issues of the tenure of our national and state executive officers.

As we all know, a motion was moved in the last National Executive Committee meeting of February 27 to the effect that when the tenure of the current executives expires in June this year, they should be allowed to continue for one year.

This motion was duly carried by the majority of members present at the last NEC meeting, even though some of our party members have since spoken up vehemently against it; others have even taken the matter to court.

On my own part, I have taken time to review and seek advice on the resolution and what I found is that it contravenes both our party’s constitution and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While the APC constitution in Article 17(1) and 13.2 (b) limits the tenure of elected officers to four years, renewable once by another election, the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) in Section 223 proscribes periodic elections for party executives at regular intervals which must not exceed four years.

Furthermore, Article 31 of our great party’s constitution provides that any principal officer wishing to re-contest, or contest for another post, must resign from his current post at least one month before the election.

In this circumstance, what is expected of us is to conduct fresh elections once the tenure of the current executives approaches its end.

A caretaker committee cannot remedy this situation and cannot validly act in place of elected officers.

Furthermore, I think if we deviate from the constitution and provisions, we might be endangering the fortunes of our party.

If the tenure of our party executive can be legally faulted, then, it means any nomination and primary election that they will conduct can also be faulted.”

He said apart from that, mass defections might follow considering the fact that some members of the party had taken the party to court to challenge the decision based on the understanding of the constitutional provisions.

The President said, “I am therefore of the firm belief that it is better to follow strictly the dictates of our party and the constitutions rather than put the APC and its activities at risk.

Fortunately, we have approved a timetable for the order of congresses and the elections. I think this should be allowed to go forward and all efforts should be geared towards making the timetable a great success.

We should not allow our party to be vulnerable and susceptible to the opposition.

They can delay or divide us further within the party when they quote appropriate portion of the party constitution and that of the country.”

However, in a swift reaction, Tinubu who was conspicuously absent at the meeting in a statement he personally signed, hailed Buhari’s address at the NEC meeting.

The former Lagos State governor, in the statement titled, ‘The President has spoken,’ said the address was straightforward, adding that it showed that the APC was committed to the principles of internal democracy and the rule of law.

Tinubu said, “President Buhari’s action saves the party from a serious legal turmoil. If the elongations were deemed illegal, then all subsequent party actions, including the nomination of all of our candidates for elective offices, might also be of questionable legality.

Such a predicament would constitute an unnecessary and a mortal blow to the party and its role in promoting progressive governance in Nigeria.”

According to Tinubu, the President has affirmed that the APC is a party that adheres to internal democracy.

He said, “The President has spoken. Today is a good day for those who cherish democracy and legality. His action will also strengthen the party by allowing party members, including present incumbents, to seek to contribute to the party by vying for executive offices as they see fit.”

  • APC Caucus meeting: Tinubu’s absence not deliberate – Aide

Tunde Rahman, media aide to the national ruler of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Tuesday explained why his boss could not attend the party caucus meeting held on Monday and Tuesday (today).

Rahman noted that Tinubu the meeting, because he had another event, organised to mark his birthday.

Rahman said it was unfair to misinterpret Tinubu’s absence to grouses within the leadership of the party.

Speaking on Political Platform, a public affairs programme on RayPower FM Tuesday, Rahman said Tinubu was attending to a programme some young people put together to honour him on his birthday.

Recall that there was wide media reports on Monday that Tinubu was conspicuously absent as President Muhammadu Buhari played host to a meeting of the national caucus of the party.

The meeting, which began at about 8:20 p.m. held inside the new Banquet Hall of the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

There have been speculations on why the APC chieftain failed to attend the meeting.

“Yesterday, a group of younger ones put together a programme for him where they were talking about their impression of him as a leader, as a motivator,” Rahman said Tuesday.

He noted that it is that time of the year the APC chieftain marks his birthday and he needed to attend to many other concerns. The media aide also said Mr. Tinubu is making progress in the reconciliatory responsibilities handed him by Buhari.

He said “the assignment given to Asiwaju by President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the reconciliation and confidence building effort within the party is ongoing and he has gone so far in that assignment.”

On the caucus meeting, he said it was an advisory committee and his principal’s absence should not be seen as anything unusual.

“Don’t (also) forget that the caucus meeting he did not attend is an advisory body. The caucus is an advisory body,” he explained.

“So that he did not attend the caucus meeting should not be a thing that we will make a lot of noise about.”

The caucus meeting is preparatory to a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) which is held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Tuesday.

  • I’ll submit my progress report to Buhari soon – Tinubu

I’ll submit my progress report to Buhari soon – Tinubu

Following claims in some quarters that he may have abandoned the assignment given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari – mandating him to reconcile aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress members, national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has insisted that the assignment is ongoing and that he is on the verge of turning in an interim report.

The rumours started days after Tinubu wrote a February 21, 2018 letter addressed to the APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, where he copied Buhari and other party leaders, accusing the chairman of sabotaging the assignment given to him by the President.

Speaking through his media aide, Tunde Rahman on RayPower’s political platform, the former Lagos governor stressed on Tuesday that he would give progress report of the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building assignment only to President Buhari who saddled him with the responsibility.

Rahman said, “The assignment given to Asiwaju by President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts within the party is ongoing. He has gone so far in that assignment; as a matter of fact, he is about putting together an interim report for submission to the President. I’m not aware that it was slated to be done yesterday (at the APC national caucus meeting.

“And I have also heard him say that this job was given to him by Mr. President and only Mr. President he will give the progress report. I think it is only right that you grant him that indulgence that he should be able to tell the President who gave him the assignment how far he has gone with that assignment.”

  • Politricks of Buhari versus Tinubu and the end of APC – Godwin Etakibuebu

    By Godwin Etakibuebu

On November 28, 2017, Ahmed Bola Tinubu; former governor of Lagos State and the presumed National Leader of the All Progressive Congress [APC] travelled with President Mohammadu Buhari to Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire for EU/AU submit. The journey, which included two governors; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, was highly publicized by the Media.

The high profile publicity given to that event, including pictures of Buhari and Tinubu sitting opposite each other with smiles from both politicians inside the presidential aircraft, spoke more of a “new-found love or friendship” between Buhari and Tinubu. The President was to pure uncommon encomium on Bola Tinubu on arriving Abidjan, saying that “he [Tinubu] is an astute Nigerian political leader that deserves respect”, before revealing that “the national leader gave me a very good information which I will read and work with when l get back to Nigeria”.

This was before he [President Buhari] gave him [Bola Tinubu] an assignment of reconciling the many battles amongst many undignified warlords in the APC. And surely before the wife of the National Leader, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, lamented heavily of how her husband was used by the APC and “dumped”. She painted a gloomy story of a strong scaffold used by builders in completing and bringing out the beauty of a high-rise edifice but was later discarded. According to Senator Remi Tinubu, the husband was that “strong scaffold” – used and discarded or dumped.

The memorable accolade of the President on Tinubu during that trip to Cote d’Ivoire and his subsequent appointment to reconcile the APC’s warring factions looked like a way of bringing the dead back to life from the grave; a type of miracle that only Jesus Christ performed when Lazarus, having been dead and buried for four days, was raised back to life, according to the Bible book of John 11:1-45. We should not forget in hurry that Bola Tinubu, having helped in putting the Party [APC] together and chasing both President Goodluck Jonathan and the People Democratic Party [PDP] from power in 2015, was consigned to “political grave”, so to say, by those he made.

How did it happen that a man of Bola Tinubu’s political prowess and understanding could easily be jettisoned and railroad into such political oblivion by a Political Party that came into existence through his political wizardry/acumen and the people he hand-picked for
political offices’ occupation in the same Party? Answer to this question maybe a needed factor in helping to decode the political game-play that is presently going on in the APC, understanding diversified role-function of individual personae dramatis within the Party as regards the crisis created/sustained by these individuals, the future of Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the Party and the likely future of the APC as a major determinant Political Party in the Nigerian political terrain.

The political downward slope graphic of Bola Tinubu had been on the drawing board many nights [decision about peoples’ lives are taken at dangerous hours of the night by Principalities and Powers – and there are few Nigerian politicians that belong to this class of Principalities and powers] before the dawn of June 9, 2015, the day the 8th National Assembly was inaugurated.
As the day [June 9, 2015] broke, the “downward slope graphic” of the National Leader; Bola Tinubu, written and sealed a few nights back was made known to Nigerians in a dramatic and most bizarre manner. It remains yet the greatest civilian coup d tat planned and executed in the annals of our history. The planning and execution had hands of a few but highly placed collaborators as the events of that day and subsequent happening would later prove. Let us see what happened that day.

While most Senators-elect [as they were then] of the ruling political party {APC] gathered at the International Conference Centre in Abuja for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, slated for 10am [according to the text message that summoned the meeting] the inauguration of the National Assembly was taking place at the same time of 10am. By the time, the APC Senators-elect knew what was happening while waiting at the International Conference Centre, two things had happened.

One, while these APC Senetors-elect were waiting, the inauguration of the National Assembly, with particular regards to the Senate, had taken place and Dr Bukola Saraki had emerged as President of the 8th Senate and already sworn-in. Two, the wait for President Buhari by these Senators-elect for “a special meeting” proved to be exercise in futility as the President did not meet with them.
That was how Bukola Saraki, in connivance with his loyalists’ APC Senators-elect [those that did not “honour” the Presidential summons to the International Conference Centre] in agreement with all Senators-elect of the dethroned Political Party [PDP] became the Senate President – placing him as Number 3 most powerful Man in Nigeria, at least for now. His emergence as President of the Senate ran against the dynamic of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s game play as the National Leader had slated that position for Ahmed Lawal from Yobe State, North/East Nigerian.

Before that date of inaugurating the National Assembly, Bola Tinubu did not only allocate the position of the Senate presidency to the North/East by nominating Ahmed Lawal for that lucrative office but had also anointed one of his favourites from the South/West in the person of Femi Gbajabiamila as Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives. He [Bola Tinubu] consolidated on his “absolute power of sharing” over the Party [APC] by ensuring that those he anointed for offices became the Party’s official candidates for those positions as a letter signed by the National Chairman of the Party; John Odigie Oyegun, to the National Assembly so directed.
However, at the House of Representative where the drama of electing the Honourable Speaker wore a seeming garment of democracy, as votes were cast and counted, the result returned Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker, against Bola Tinubu’s anointed – Femi Gbajabiamila. This was the very day that Bola Tinubu’s authority and influence over APC noose-dived to the very bottom – it was a major crash from the top-roof of the building.

It naturally followed from that day that the power to nominate and crown candidates to major political offices, including gubernatorial candidates, in the APC, has left Bola Tinubu as the case of Ondo State later proved. In that case, which featured Rotimi Akeredolu; a contestant who dared Bola Tinubu in running against the latter’s preferred candidate, events showed that it is not only power that had left the Asiwaju but the Party’s National Chairman [a man anointed and crowned to be Chairman by Bola Tinubu] had equally departed from him.

With this further fall of the Asiwaju in the Ondo State governorship matter there was no more hiding of facts that some political Principalities and Powers have moved against this man who was once the Boss of bosses in king-making affairs of the APC. The question that needs serious attention at this point of this exercise is this: Who are those that demystified Bola Tinubu and reduced his influence and powers in the APC? Why did they move against him at the time they did? What impact would the “political downfall” of Bola Tinubu have in the APC politics? How far will the APC go within the Nigerian political terrain with Bola Tinubu on the sideline?

In answering these questions, we shall attempt looking at the larger role-play of some individuals in this unfolding scenario because what is at stake for now is not limited to the APC but the Nigerian Enterprise. If the APC; as the ruling Political Party, within its political interplay, does well, Nigeria will be better off for it. If, in the other hand, the Party; through its manipulative interplay of things, fails woefully, the Nigerian State and its people will remain the colossal casualties or will bear the vicarious liability of its misrule for years to come.

Ipso facto, this exercise is not about “Bola Tinubu and them” per se, but it is all about wither blows the wind of “these people’s misadventures” in Nigeria. Nigeria has not known peace in any form of human’s endeavor since the APC has taken over reins of government from PDP in 2015. This is the major reason why we should be concerned with the politics and politricks of the APC.
Next week, we shall delve into the role-function of the Presidency, Bola Tinubu, Bukola Saraki, the Aso Rock Cabal, the Fulani Elite Agenda, the Sokoto Caliphate, the Kanuri Empire and the Kaduna Mafia, in shaping the destiny of Nigeria through the making and marring of the APC.

Then this: Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State may just be as wicked against the people of Amuwo Odofin Local Government as wickedness can be defined. The link bridge connecting Festac Town [a major urban area in Amuwo Odofin Local Government] to Apo junction and into Lagos proper has been partly closed down by the Executive Governor since December last year, ostensibly for a minor repair because of fire incident on the foot of the bridge.

This Governor has withdrawn workers from the place since January, thereby leaving millions in that community in daily terrifying traffic-jam. It takes sometimes two to three hours to cross from Festac to Apo Junction. Why will a governor wants to be this wicked to his own people? The answer, according to the grapevine, is that Amuwo Odofin people did not vote for APC during the 2015 General Elections, otherwise one Emma Oghene-Egoh wouldn’t have become a honourable member of the House of Representative under the banner of PDP.

Will that be enough reason to punish everyone in that area, including the teaming members of APC that would always be willing to do everything for the Party? Mr Governor, allow your human conscience judge you in this matter, knowing fully that you are coming back to this same people in a few months’ time for their votes in 2019.
