  • Tinubu begs Nigerians to support Buhari to stimulate economy

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday, called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the country’s current economic challenges.

Tinubu made the call in a Christmas message signed by his Media Officer, Mr Tunde Rahman in Lagos.

He urged Nigerians to learn from the example of Jesus Christ “who faced and overcame the greatest evil” by uniting to overcome the country’s various challenges.

”The challenges facing the country are difficult ones. Let us unite to overcome our challenges and keep the hope alive.

”We must support President Buhari and complement his efforts in his resolve to stimulate the economy and reposition the country.

” The president needs our support, understanding and prayers. We must fully break the terrorism of Boko Haram and completely put down the last vestiges of the terrorists.

”We must continue to pray for the men in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe and to end this scourge on the nation. I commend our troops battling the terrorists. I thank them again for their courage and bravery.

”Let us remember those who have been dispossessed of their homes and traumatised by the evil of these terrorists and pray that they all will be able to return home soon and begin their lives a new and better.

“Yet, we must do more than pray. We all have something to give, something to contribute to the greater good. As Jesus gave of himself that we may live better, we must give of ourselves that others around us may have a better life, ” he said.

Tinubu also urged Nigerians to reflect and recognise how Jesus lived and what he lived for while celebrating Christmas.

”Christmas Day, is one of the most precious days of the year for it celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.

”Be you Christian, Muslim or just a human being with a soul that yearns for peace, compassion and hope, Jesus Christ belongs to all of us. His teachings are universal in application and speak of truth eternal.

”He reached out to all. Jesus fed the poor and healed the sick. He spread compassion and charity and preached love and justice. There are no finer aims than these and we can do no better than to do all we can to follow his example,“ he said.

The leader urged Nigerians to embrace and spread the gospel of love, tolerance and forgiveness this season and into the New Year.

“We must commit ourselves to peace and unity. Let us eschew all bitterness and bigotry,” he said.

2019: ‘Tinubu, two governors will soon dump APC’ says PDP chieftain

Sunny Onuesoke, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has revealed those that will defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before 2019.

Onuesoke disclosed that eight governors, twenty-two senators and sixty-six House of Representatives members of APC will be declaring and returning to PDP before the end of February 2018. He also said former Lagos governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be returning to the party.

He told Daily Independent that, “In a very few moment from now, not less than eight governors, twenty-two senators and sixty-six House of Representatives members of APC stocks will be declaring and returning to PDP before the end of February 2018. It is a concluded issue for now.

“And for your information, it will shock you to note that two APC governors are among the eight expected governors who has concluded their declaration and return to the party.

” Do not be surprised that 35 percent of the Federal exco members are already prepared to declare for PDP.

“I believe that a big fish like Bola Tinubu is expected to declare for PDP soon than later. Do not forget that PDP remains the largest party in the continent of Africa.”

  • Defection of Alao-Akala, Folarin, others to APC mark end of PDP in Oyo state – Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Saturday in Ibadan declared the death of opposition parties in Oyo State.

Tinubu made the declaration during a mega rally at the ancient Mapo Hall, while receiving former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala; former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin; and hosts of others into the APC.

Among the defectors were: Senator Brimoh Yusuf, Chief Ayodele Adigun, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, Hon. Dokun Odebunmi, Hon. Ademola Ojo, Chief Olanrewaju Otiti, Rauf Olaniyan and Funke Adesiyan.

The APC National Leader was joined by Governor Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Governor Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) to receive the defectors.
The event coincided with the 68th birthday of Ajimobi.

Tinubu said: “Today is very important because of the governor’s birthday.

“I really thank God for my friend, Alao-Akala, and others for joining the APC.

“I also thank God for Folarin and Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja too.

“This APC house is great for all of us.

“I am confident that today’s massive defection into the APC has finished opposition parties in Oyo State.

“We are happy to have you in and we are proud of our party.”

The former Lagos State governor said the APC was the only progressive party in Nigeria and Africa, urging the people to vote APC in the 2019 election.

  • Tinubu denies purported plans to replace Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate in 2019

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Tinubu, has said there is no truth in the speculation that he may emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate for the 2019 presidential election.

Tinubu described as a “classic case of utterly and irredeemably-fake news,” the report in a national daily that he was being mooted as Buhari’s running mate in 2019 to boost the APC’s chances in the South-West.

According to a statement by his Media Officer, Tunde Rahman, the APC chieftain said it was speculated in the said report that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, might withdraw from politics in 2019 and return to full church work.

Tinubu, however, described the report as false, insisting that he and Nigerians “have absolute confidence and are exceedingly proud of the excellent job that Professor Osinbajo is doing as the Vice-President of Nigeria.”

He said, “There is no empirical or logical basis for this mischievously speculative story. Is it even conceivable, as the story recklessly insinuates, that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo would be considering returning to full church work rather than run with his boss, President Buhari, for a second term if the latter so decides without as much as discussing such a sensitive issue with his party and with Asiwaju Tinubu?

“In any case, is this story not entirely unwarranted and indefensible as the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket has an electoral mandate of four years out of which it has spent only over two and a half years?

“This is clearly an attempt to distract the APC Federal Government from the yeoman’s job it has been doing in rescuing the country from the deep rooted socio-economic, political, security and moral mess inherited from the PDP’s 16 years misrule of Nigeria, instigate crisis within the party, stoke dangerous embers of religious disaffection within the party and the country generally and stem the remarkable progress being made in the reinvention and revitalisation of Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Asiwaju Tinubu has absolute confidence and faith in both President Buhari and Vice-President Osinbajo, who have been working hard harmoniously in offering inspirational leadership to Nigeria at a most critical period in her history.

“The haemorrhaging of the national economy through the wanton and unprecedented corruption that obtained before the advent of the APC Federal Government has been staunched.

“There is greater sanity, accountability and transparency in the management of the country’s finances. The Boko Haram insurgency has been substantially contained. We should not allow ourselves to be derailed from the job we are effectively undertaking in fulfilling our campaign promises anchored on the tripod of containing insecurity, taming the scourge of corruption and resuscitating the economy.”

  • 2019: Okorocha lied; I never underrated governors in choice of APC presidential candidate – Tinubu

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said he never at any time played down the importance of state governors in choosing the 2019 presidential flag bearer of the party.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State had earlier accused Tinubu during a recent visit to the Afenifere leaders in Akure of saying governors have no roles in the emergence of a presidential flag bearer of the party.

Tinubu in a statement by his media office however said the accusation was not true adding that what he said in that encounter with journalists in Akure “and still canvasses is that the APC should not mimic the PDP’s penchant for short-circuiting internal democracy by promoting the idea of an automatic ticket”.

Recall that Okorocha had said also earlier said that all the APC Governors had endorsed President Buhari for re-election, thus implying that the governors had given the President an automatic ticket for 2019.

Asked to respond to the issue after a meeting with Afenifere leader Pa Fasoranti in Akure, Tinubu said such was strange to the party and that President Buhari is a man who believes in due process.

Okorocha, however, interpreted that to mean a slight on the party’s governors.

Speaking with journalists in Akure after receiving an honourary doctorate degree at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State on Saturday, he said his statement referred to the party’s governors and that Tinubu was crying more than the bereaved.

In a statement on Monday in Lagos, Tinubu’s Media Adviser, Mr. Tunde Rahman, said: “We note Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s statement. It is important that the record of what Asiwaju Tinubu said when approached by journalists during his last visit to Akure is accurate. Thus, I make this statement in the hope of clarifying a misinterpretation that seems to have taken hold in some quarters.

I was at the interview session. Asiwaju never said anything that could be interpreted as meaning or even implying the governors are irrelevant or insignificant to the party’s nomination process. As a former governor and a leading statesman within the party, such words would never come from him.

Moreover, Asiwaju is a democrat who believes that the open and democratic processes of the APC, which led to the nomination of President Buhari in the first instance, have served the party well and has helped distinguish APC from PDP and other parties where fairness and internal democracy are rare commodities.

Every individual has a right to endorse or support a candidate of his choosing. What Asiwaju said at that encounter and still canvasses is that the APC should not mimic the PDP’s penchant for short-circuiting internal democracy by promoting the idea of an automatic ticket. The exercise of internal democracy and honoring the letter and spirit of party rules can only strengthen the party and enthuse its members.

APC’s all-inclusive philosophy was not devised today. It had been with the party since its creation. It was this spirit, which we believe, attracted fellow progressives and those who genuinely believe in democracy in all of its aspects to the party. Asiwaju includes Governor Okorocha in this group.

The APC Governors are essential and important voices in the party. Asiwaju values and respects each one of them and gives their individual and collective opinions much weight. Yet, in the exercise of our opinions and support for candidates, we all must be guided and never lose clear sight to the democratic ideals that separate the APC from the other parties. We must maintain the integrity of the processes no matter how clear-cut a decision or an outcome may seem to be. With regard to democracy, the process is of equal import as the outcome itself.

This is the essence of what Asiwaju said that day in Akure. He merely asked APC members to adhere to the democratic path that thus far has served the party so well. There can be no true dispute with such a sentiment.”

You have shown so many people what it means to be a hero for you are a hero in every sense of the word.

“You are a man devoted to his family and friends. No one can have a more faithful friend than you. Showing your depth and versatility, you made a seamless transition from military to civilian life. In business, you have excelled. “You have done much and have come far, dear friend. Yet, your road still has much farther to do. May you continue to do great things and help define a better Nigeria along the way.

“Happy birthday General T. Y. Danjuma. Happy birthday the People’s General. May God grant you many more years,” Asiwaju Tinubu concluded in his goodwill message to the illustrious Army General.

  • Tinubu will wish he had never been born, when Buhari finishes with him – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to Bola Tinubu’s closed-door meeting with the president Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja

The ex-minister described Tinubu visit to Buhari as a shame, adding that the APC leader has no pride and dignity.

The APC leader had, after the meeting, refused to comment on Buhari’s 2019 ambition.

But according to Fani-Kayode, Tinubu would wish he was never born after Buhari deals with him.

“Tinubu says that he still has confidence in Buhari. Poor him.

“Does slavery and the selling of one’s kinsmen, soul and heritage not have limits?

  • 2019: Don’t discuss Buhari’s second term with me – Tinubu

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, on Monday told journalists not to discuss the possibility of President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term with him.
