  • Tinubu, Ajimobi others mourn Adeleke

Former Lagos State Gov. Bola Tinubu, has described late Sen. Isiaka Adeleke, as a grassroots politician with rich political background.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), National Leader in a condolence message issued on Sunday in Lagos, said that the leadership and good counsel of Adeleke were still very much required when death came.

Adeleke, 62, also a former governor of Osun, died in the early hours of Sunday at a private hospital in Osogbo.

”I received the news of Senator Isiaka Adeleke’s death with shock.

” It was too much to bear coming barely a day after that of Dipo Famakinwa. The news of his death was both sudden and saddening for me and I am sure for most members of our political family.

”Sen. Adeleke was a grassroots politician with a rich political back ground. He was hugely popular in his Osun , particularly in the three local governments in Ede, his hometown.

”He was a major leader of our party, the APC. His leadership and good counsel were still very much required when death came.

”The late senator and I shared mutual respect and affection. My path and his first crossed during the aborted Third Republic, in the 1992/93 era, when we both belonged to the defunct Social Democratic Party.

He was in the Peoples Democratic Party at the rebirth of democratic dispensation in 1999, but he later joined us in the APC in the build-up to the 2015 election, ” he said.

According to Tinubu, he left behind a legacy in the area of education by establishing Ire Polytechnic and College of Education, Esa-Oke, among other laudable things during his time.

”Adeleke was with us in Lagos during the colloquium marking my 65th birthday. He also joined us for the inauguration of Aboru-Abesan Link Bridge and adjoining roads constructed by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

”I commiserate with his wife and children. I commiserate with the entire Adeleke family and his friends and numerous supporters.

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State described Adeleke’s death as shocking, disheartening and sad.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Yomi Layinka, the governor said he received the news of Adeleke’s sudden death with shock and disbelief.

Adeleke died in the early hours of Sunday at a private hospital in Osogbo after succumbing to a protracted ailment.

The governor described the late senator as a celebrated and committed politician, distinguished senator, grassroots mobiliser, socialite and great philanthropist.

Ajimobi said: “When the news filtered in that Sen. Adeleke was dead, l was extremely shocked and amazed.

“ I found it very difficult to believe, because he was bubbling with life when l saw him last.

Similarly, Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Sen. Lanre Tejuoso, said said the deceased contributed immensely to the growth of the National Assembly.

“It is shocking. He was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital Market and he was active in ensuring that there was no problem in the Capital Market.

“He organised a summit recently on the Capital Market and it was a success. He was an achiever; we are going to miss him greatly,’’ he said.

The lawmaker prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest, and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

  • I have no contention with PDP senate caucus – Tinubu

I have no contention with PDP senate caucus – Tinubu

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has dismissed reports that he accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senate caucus of conspiring with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to destroy the Senate.

In a statement by Mr Tunde Rahman of his Media Office, Tinubu said he had respect for the Senate being a former senator himself.

The statement read in part, “The newspaper claimed in the report “PDP Caucus Accuses Tinubu, EFCC of conspiracy to destroy senate that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in concert with the EFCC, has instigated media attacks against the PDP Senate caucus. The story is such an outright fabrication that it claims the PDP Senators held a special meeting to discuss Asiwaju Tinubu.

“However, PDP Senators claim no such meeting was ever held and that they hold no special animus toward Asiwaju Tinubu. We are usually not in the position of agreement with PDP members. But on this rare occasion, we have no contention with them. Asiwaju Tinubu is a former Senator. He has a special affection for the Senate as an institution. It is not within him to belittle the institution or members of that institution who happen to be in the opposing political party. Moreover, his brand of politics does not lend itself to engaging in wanton character and personal attacks. There is significant policy difference between our progressive school of thought and the often reactionary ideas of the PDP. There are more than enough serious issues

“Moreover, his brand of politics does not lend itself to engaging in wanton character and personal attacks. There is significant policy difference between our progressive school of thought and the often reactionary ideas of the PDP. There are more than enough serious issues.

“Asiwaju Tinubu’s politics are driven by his policy views. He will gladly wrestle against the PDP on substantive political differences. But engage in personal attacks, rumour-mongering and mudslinging, never. We leave that for others. The gutter is no place to build a better nation. We seek higher ground.

“So that there is no confusion on the core issue here, we categorically deny any hand in any negative personal report on any Senator.”

I may consider running for presidency if… – Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that he may consider running for the office of the president if the seat becomes vacant.

He said running for the office will also depend largely on the timing and political atmosphere in the country.

The former governor of Lagos noted that running for a public office is a rare priviledge to serve and help fix some of the challenges facing the country.

Tinubu said this while fielding questions from journalists on Friday.

In his words: “You see there is nothing wrong with such ambition.

It depends on the timing and the environment and what political leadership dictates.

I will not brush aside such an aspiration.

It has been historical even that Buhari tried first, second, third, and fourth before he got it. Resilience, determination, and clarity of purpose.

Maybe as a senator, maybe as a president, you cannot rule it out. How can I rule such a thing out, the opportunity to serve my country? But you only do that when there is a vacancy.”

Tinubu added that there was no rift whatsoever amongst APC leaders.

He said, “Everything has always been alright in APC camp. I credit the Nigerian creativity in journalism, they create stories, and if you have to respond to every one of it, you will be in trouble.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. He also played a major role in the formation of the APC which defeated the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2015 presidential elections.

  • Your fiscal policy is crippling our economy, Tinubu blasts Buhari

Your fiscal policy is crippling our economy, Tinubu blasts Buhari

Former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to review its fiscal policy to ease the economic hardship in the country.

Tinubu spoke on Wednesday as a guest lecturer at the National Defence College Course 25, titled, “Strategic Leadership: My Political Experiences.”

He argued that Nigeria’s current inflation rate of 18 per cent was unbearable and that Nigerians were suffering for it.

In his words: “In the situation we face, deficit spending is essential to bolster aggregate demand and direct funds to projects that build infrastructure and bolster employment. We must better harmonise monetary policy with fiscal policy. It undercuts our goals if monetary policy is unduly tight at a time when fiscal policy begets deficit spending.

“We must also realign trade policy with our need to create a meaningful industrial base and more potent agricultural sector. We can no longer allow cheap imports to preclude the development of industries and sectors strategic to our enduring economic future.

“What am I doing if I have a billion, and you are ready to give me 180 million, that is 18 per cent upfront, do I have to work or do anything again? These are the factors they have to look at quickly to ease the monetary policy.

The APC leader continued: “You have to stimulate this economy, you have to spend yourself out of this recession and you cannot do that by consistently stifling the banks of liquidity. It is their money; it is their saving. We have to criticise ourselves when it is necessary, speak truth to power.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the well-respected politician said if the Federal Government means well for Nigerians, it must be proactive in handling the failing economic policies.

“We are the power, we speak truth to ourselves. The monetary policy must be consistent with the environmental need of our domestic requirements, you cannot hold on too much or too tight to a policy.”

Tinubu added that the leadership of the APC was right to criticise the Federal Government, because “when it is necessary, speak truth to the power, we are the power, we will talk the truth to ourselves.”

“Our fiscal policy does not mesh with monetary policy. Trade policy undermines industrial policy, thus the ease of doing business is inhibited. Overseas peacekeeping missions do not always harmonise with core foreign policy interests. A nation in progress seeks to minimise, not harvest additional contradictions, otherwise its leadership strategy is doomed to fail.

“Strategic objectives during this period of economic uncertainty must be to re-engineer the economy bottom up, diversify the economic base, strengthen our industrial base, modernise infrastructure, enhance agriculture, and provide employment and of course, ease of doing business,” he added.

  • I didn’t leave Gambia with looted funds on Tinubu’s plane – Jammeh

Ousted president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has denied leaving the country with stolen funds as reported in some sections of the media on Monday.

According to reports, Jammeh left the country with $11million cash after he was forced to go on exile in Guinea on Monday.

TheNewsGuru.com had reported that following a meeting with Guinean President Alpha Conde and Mauritania’s President Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz on Saturday, Jammeh left Banjul into exile with his family aboard Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Falcon 900.

However, investigations have revealed that there was money on the private jet.

According to a source who craved anonymity, “No such thing happened.”

Speaking further, the source said: “In fact, it was impossible for looted monies to have been taken away on an aircraft that was in public glare. The radar of the international media, security forces and Gambian people was on the aircraft.

“It is practically impossible to load millions of dollars on the plane. In any case, no money was loaded into the plane, safe Guinean President Conde, Jammeh, his wife, mother and son.”

TheNewsGuru.com also reported that the newly sworn in president, Adama Barrow has promised to investigate and probe the former president if found guilty.

  • Tinubu’s private jet flies Jammeh to exile

Details have emerged how a peaceful exit was reached for embattled former President of The Gambia, Yahyah Jammeh who agreed to leave the country to save his people from a major crisis.

“Fifty days after he lost at tbe ballot, former Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, relinquished power on Saturday, January 21, 2017 and left the country in an aeroplane said to belong to former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“It was learnt that Tinubu’s gesture was to further consolidate President Muhammadu Buhari-led Economic Community of Africa (ECOWAS)’s” The Nation newspaper reports.

Jammeh’s exit paved the way for the return of President Adama Barrow to take office after he was sworn in on Thursday in Dakar, Senegal.

Tinubu’s VP-CBT Falcon Jet had been with President Conde, who is a close friend of the leading politician.

It was not until late on Saturday night that Jammeh agreed to go. Sources said Tinubu was contacted to allow the use of his jet to fly Jammeh out of Banjul.

He reportedly gave a condition: it should only be used “if it will facilitate the quick exit of Jammeh and lead to the restoration of peace and democracy in The Gambia”.

The plane eventually flew out with Jammeh, his wife, mother and President Conde on board.

Senegal, it was learnt, insisted on knowing those on board before allowing it to overfly its airspace. This wish was granted. Jammeh was flown to Equitorial Guinea where he will be on exile

Jammeh arrived at the airport amid a large convoy of vehicles and throngs of cheering supporters.

He stood on a small platform to hear ceremonial music performed by a military band and then walked down a long red carpet, surrounded by dignitaries.

He climbed the steps to the plane, turned and kissed and waved a Qur’an at those assembled.

It was an emotional farewell. Many soldiers, supporters and dignitaries were crying. Others in The Gambia were glad to see the end of a 22-year dictatorship which had little respect for human rights and freedom of speech.

We appeal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a kind politician, to intervene and stop this demolition.

We are not illegal occupiers. We have our genuine land documents,” he said.

He promised to convey their petition to Tinubu and advised their leader to come to the Freedom House next Tuesday for feedback.
