‎”Every day, as Vice President, you have justified that choice by strengthening our work, bringing fresh perspectives, and upholding our commitment to Nigerians.

‎“Your dedication reassures me that I did not make a mistake in choosing you as my deputy,” he said.

‎Tinubu lauded Shettima’s political journey from Governor of Borno to Senator, commending his service in the face of challenges.

‎”You served the people of Borno, your home state, excellently as Governor for eight years and later as Senator representing Borno Central in the National Assembly.

‎”In both roles, you showed that leadership is service, not privilege, even in the face of immense challenges,” he said.

‎He emphasised their joint commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at delivering tangible dividends of democracy to Nigerians

‎”Together, we have begun to lay the foundations of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎”From securing new global partnerships across the Atlantic to driving food security and investment reforms at home, your partnership has been integral to our success.

‎”In the months ahead, as we unlock new trade corridors and deliver more schools, hospitals, and jobs, our partnership will continue to yield results that Nigerians can see and feel.

‎”We must continue to work towards the full realisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which will foster prosperity in the country and enhance the living standards of our people,” he said.

‎Tinubu noted that their bond goes beyond politics, representing unity across regions and traditions.

‎”Our relationship transcends official duties. It is a bridge across regions and traditions, united in purpose and service.”

‎”You remind us of what is possible when Nigeria comes first, an example worthy of emulation by those who aspire to lead.”

‎The President wished Shettima continued strength, wisdom, and many more impactful years in service to Nigeria.

We formed APC, I know where the dead body is buried – El-Rufai

Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he’s part of the founding members of the the All Progressives Congress, APC and has what it take to defeat the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He disclosed this during a Channels Television programme on Sunday.

“We formed the APC; we know where the dead body is buried. Some of them, like Atiku, know where the PDP’s dead body is buried.

“Together we can face APC. We don’t need to have totally different people from nowhere to challenge APC,” he said.

El-Rufai decried that the economy and security are worse off under President Tinubu.

If opposition presents Obi, I will vote Tinubu – Deji Adeyanju

Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has declared that he would vote for President Bola Tinubu if the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the opposition coalition, decides to field Peter Obi as its candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

Adeyanju made the remark on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief when asked if his criticisms of Obi were an attempt to discredit the former Anambra Governor.

“God forbid that I support APC. If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote for Tinubu,” he said.

The rift between Adeyanju and Obi recently escalated into a legal matter after the 64-year-old politician, through his legal team, threatened to sue the activist for alleged defamatory comments on social media and in interviews.

Adeyanju dismissed the legal threat, saying he was eager to face Obi in court.

He also accused Obi of promoting what he described as a toxic political culture, pointing to the conduct of some of the “Obidient” supporters during the last election cycle.

“We cannot have a man who leads a mob that terrorises people online and cannot tolerate criticism, who calls people all sorts of names. Anybody who cannot support their candidate is seen as an enemy of Nigeria or has been paid to do so. That is not democracy,” Adeyanju said.

Questioning Obi’s democratic credentials, the activist argued that the Labour Party leader had not made sacrifices comparable to those of other Nigerians who fought for the country’s democratic survival.

“What sacrifices has he made for democracy? Many of us have put our lives on the line at great personal cost. We must sanitise our polity. We cannot have a country where people who terrorise others online dictate the tone of political discourse,” he said.

Reflecting on his past choices at the polls, Adeyanju insisted that he had always voted based on principle.

“In my opinion, I have never voted for a bad candidate. In 1999, I voted for Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2011, I voted for Goodluck Jonathan.

“In 2015, I voted for Jonathan again, against the so-called lovers of democracy who wanted Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

Asaba 2025: Tinubu reiterates commitment to promote youth games

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian youths that his administration would continue to support development of sports in the country.

Tinubu gave the assurance while declaring open the 9th edition of the National Youths Games tagged “Asaba 2025” on Friday in Asaba, Delta.

The President was represented by Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.

Tinubu said he was delighted with the Nigerian youths who came from states to participate in the games.

He said his administration had celebrated the success of the Super Falcons and D’Tigress to show his level of commitment to sports development.

The President who described sports as a verifiable factor that unite and promote peaceful coexistence, said his administration will continually invest in the development of sports.

Tinubu while commending youths who came from various states to participate in the festival, urged them to give their best to their individual games and make their various states proud.

“I am delighted to see over 6,000 athletes who are youths and have come from various states to participate in the 9th edition of the National Youths Games in Asaba.

“My administration will continually support the development of sports men and women, in promoting every sports just like we celebrated the Super Falcons, and Nigeria Female Basketball team, D’Tigress.

“I believe several young talents in football, basketball, boxing and several other sports will emerge and they will be recruited in our various sports federations to nurture their skills.

“I am also delighted to inform you that sports development in Nigeria is in the hands of capable people like Shehu Dikko, Chairman, National Sports Commission and Bukola Olopade, Director-General of National Sports Commission,” he said.

The President encouraged all athletes to be determined and aim for the gold during the games.

  • 2027: Jonathan remains respected elder statesman, but can’t unseat Tinubu – APC

2027: Jonathan remains respected elder statesman, but can’t unseat Tinubu – APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has observed with keen interest the growing speculations surrounding the possible return of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the 2027 presidential race.

According to reports, Jonathan who lost his reelection bid in 2025 to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, is being persuaded by supporters to seek reelection in 2027 general elections.

Speaking, the party’s spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Friday noted that the former president’s political relevance to unseat President Bola Tinubu, remained in doubt.

“While we acknowledge the former president’s role in the peaceful democratic transition of 2015 — an act that rightly earned him praise at home and abroad — we must state, in clear terms, that Nigeria has since moved beyond the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism.

“The challenges of today and the future require bold, capable, and forward-thinking leadership — not a return to the comfort of a past that was far from perfect.

“Let it be clear: good luck alone is not a governance strategy,” he said.

Oladejo alleged that the Jonathan administration, from 2010 to 2015, left behind a country grappling with severe structural weaknesses — from unchecked corruption to alarming insecurity and economic inertia.

“While some may look back on those years with rose-tinted glasses, we must remind ourselves that nostalgia is not a policy platform.

“Emotion cannot drive economic reform, and sentimentality will not fix power generation, insecurity, youth unemployment, or education sector decay,” the APC chieftain said.

Oladejo said that the party also noted the constitutional and political complications of a potential Jonathan candidacy.

According to him, having completed more than one term in office, any return bid will inevitably trigger legal contention and political instability — distractions Nigeria cannot afford in a time when decisive action is needed across all sectors of national life.

“Moreover, the former president’s political relevance has been complicated by his recent engagements across party lines.

“His flirtation with the APC and absence from PDP’s strategic rebuilding efforts raise questions about his loyalty, clarity of vision, and political intentions,” he said.

According to him, the APC remains focused on consolidating progress, implementing reforms, and engaging the Nigerian electorate with fresh ideas and credible candidates who reflect the aspirations of a dynamic, youthful population.

“We believe the future of Nigeria does not lie in recycled leadership but in visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation, and resilience.

“Former President Jonathan remains a respected elder statesman. His legacy as a peaceful democrat is assured. But legacies are not manifestoes, and nostalgia is not governance.

“We urge Nigerians to reject emotional shortcuts and stay focused on the need for capable, accountable and transformative leadership.

“As 2027 approaches, let us not reach backwards in desperation, but move forward with courage and clarity,” Oladejo said.

  • APC keeps 2027 ticket open after endorsing Tinubu

APC keeps 2027 ticket open after endorsing Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday in Abuja said party stalwarts wishing to contest the 2027 presidential election may challenge President Bola Tinubu at its primaries.

Alh. Suleiman Argungu, the party’s National Organising Secretary, stated this while addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat.

He, however, reaffirmed the decision of the party’s leadership, including its National Working Committee (NWC) and the Sen. Hope Uzodinma-led Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), to endorse Tinubu.

He added that the Sen. Godswill Akpabio-led National Assembly leadership also supported Tinubu, citing his impressive performance and economic policies that were beginning to yield positive results.

Argungu stressed that the APC, as a democratic party, would not shut its doors to stalwarts wishing to contest its presidential ticket against Tinubu at the primaries.

“The aspiration of the people will be the wish of the party. The NWC has endorsed President Tinubu as our next presidential candidate.

“Other party organs have taken similar positions. Governments across most states and zones have also adopted him.

“But that does not mean the door is closed. When the time comes, we’ll publish our timetable for aspirants wishing to contest the presidency.

“Under the APC platform, we’ll not deny anyone the right to purchase forms. Members are free to exercise their franchise,” Argungu said.

He clarified that the party never closed its doors but wished to acknowledge Tinubu’s efforts in delivering good governance and serving Nigerians diligently.

He said Tinubu deserved a second term in office because he was performing well for the country and its citizens.

Argungu was reacting to a question on whether the APC would emulate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which reserved a sole presidential form for Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.

While celebrating the APC’s recent by-election victories in some states, he assured Nigerians that Tinubu and the APC remained dedicated to their welfare, security, and prosperity.

NAN reports that the APC secured 13 of the 16 contested seats in the by-election.

According to Argungu, this achievement reaffirmed the confidence Nigerians continued to place in the APC.

“These victories are not just statistics; they show the strength, resilience, and growing acceptance of our party nationwide.

“They reflect Nigerians’ belief in our capacity to deliver purposeful leadership and good governance,” Argungu added.

  • Okonjo-Iweala’s mealy-mouthed Tinubu economic performance scorecard – By Alade Rotimi-John

Okonjo-Iweala’s mealy-mouthed Tinubu economic performance scorecard – By Alade Rotimi-John

Nigerian-Born Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, came calling the other week. She paid a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu and gave what should have been an austere and severe personal assessment of Nigeria’s economic performance under the Tinubu administration.  An otherwise closely-reasoned television interview of Okonjo-Iweala after the Aso Rock Villa visit has sparked considerable interest and enthusiasm.

Many have adjudged the Director-General to have spoken indistinctly or without clear articulation. The truthful analysis or assessment of the performance of the economic reform programme of the government is timidly advised to be avoided like a rattle snake because of the hypersensitivity of government and the hyena-like wildness of its lapdogs respecting the subject matter.

A free-minded discussant is pigeonholed as belonging to or being used by the opposition. An afore-held official prejudice is wont to destroy the chances of a clear reception of his thoroughly-researched or forthright analysis and prescription. The concerted hostility of hired online Turks and of rabid government supporters has proved difficult to overcome. The social media hirelings have been brimming with false confidence in the light of a perceived huge endorsement of the grim reform measures of the government.

Okonjo-Iweala, on her part, has described the Nigerian economy as “stable” even under the challenging circumstances of the weak-kneed operational methodology of its captain. In a mechanistic sense, stability will seem to suggest a situation that is resistant to change. In economics discourse, when an economy is identified as stable, it is meant that the economy has reached a point where it has ceased to experience major or fundamental gridlock.

In the wake of the 1981/82 Shagari-era economic downturn, the Federal government’s  Chief Economic Adviser, Professor Emmanuel Edozien, while responding to criticisms regarding the gaping difference between the lived realities of the people and the officially-alleged good performance of the economy, amused a beleaguered nation when he retorted that “the Economy is resilient.” Was that the question asked of him?

A red herring is conjured when a public officer is confronted with difficult questions which require immediate direct answers. A misleading answer intended to divert attention from the real issue is offered nervously.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala may have suffered a nervous dread as she reacted sympathetically to the official plea for public understanding of the government’s reform measures. The government, she explained, has achieved the stability of the economy. But her explanation was a decoy intended to lull the people to sleep. In it, she lured public attention away from the people’s existential problems.

Some ominous rumblings have since ensued. Many commentators have deplored what they think is Mrs Okonjo-Iweala’s lack of commitment to the public cause respecting the alleviation of the pervasive excruciatingly harsh living conditions of the Nigerian people under the hurtful reform programme of President Tinubu’s government. Okonjo-Iweala who is generally considered an interesting personality in public life; who is endearing to one and all as a public officer of marked ability and as a well-trained public finance apparatchik is deemed to have goofed big time in this poor attempt to balance certain niceness of Diplomatic bearing or of the exquisite class with the rough and tumble of politics.

Even as the stability of an economy is proclaimed as not necessarily precluding the hardship and suffering that are attendant to such “stability”, the purpose of that stability remains dubious. In an identified situation where inflation is reported to have fallen from 25 per cent to 12 per cent and prices of goods and services are still sky-high, the advantage of the putative stability is of negative value. One would expect from Okonjo-Iweala’s cold comfort regarding the attainment by the Tinubu administration of a stable economy, a real surge of hope for the people exemplified in a tumbling or affordable price regime with respect, for instance, to basic food items. It may well be that the Director-General chose her use of the word “stable” decidedly or with some deviously diplomatic purpose in mind.

Cost of living is rooftop, to the chagrin of the people. Food, housing, transportation, health care, etc are generally out of reach of the teeming masses even as incomes are abysmally low. We are informed that economic stability does not preclude hardship or that it does not suggest that the socio-economic conditions of the people have improved.

We have been educated that stability can coexist with hardship and privation. Our eggheads have divined that it could take months or even years before stability could successfully grapple with hardship to translate into job creation, higher wages, cheaper goods or some beneficial indices of socio-economic welfare, etc. They even insist that the state of stability must hold long enough even as pain becomes more grim and real. Further, our economic gurus predict the possibility of the stability phase reversing itself midway thereby prolonging the hardship or socially-unambient situation.

Even as the most important singular purpose of government remains the security and welfare of the people otherwise expressed as the greatest good of the greatest number of the people, a stable economic situation as propounded by the Okonjo-Iweala school of economic growth and development will seem to defeat the terms of the people’s social contract. This school hypothesises that a socio-economic welfare milieu can only be preceded by a prerequisite “stable economy” in which suffering, hardship, privation, etc must be endured ad nauseum.

The Tinubu presidency reform measures which Okonjo-Iweala applauded at her visit are no more than the casual, incoherent, unintelligible, one-cap-fits-all propositions that offer no immediate succour and are positioned to delay or postpone the welfare of the ordinary people. The Nigerian educated elite cannot absolve itself from being complicit in all that has bedevilled the country. In fact, it is actively partaking, collaborating or is complacently indifferent to the deterioration of the Nigerian socio-economic and political environment without any passionate opposition and struggle.

The membership of the Nigerian elite class continues to pander to the whims of those in authority and thereby finds it difficult to pronounce truth to power even as the pervading situation requires that government be made conscious to respond to the needs and wishes of the people. Felicitous allusions to matters of grave existential conditions are all that have unfortunately come from otherwise enlightened self-interest.

Perhaps no final word may be said about the duplicity of our eggheads from who so much was expected and upon who so much pathos has been expended. Concrete economic, political and social achievements have been fortuitously wasted on the altar of elite indocility. Our trust, our hope or confidence may have been wrongly placed. Unfortunately, it cannot be doubted that socio-political and economic kinesis can only be engineered or led by elite leadership.

ong ago in 1982, Chief Obafemi Awolowo identified a great impediment to our national growth and development. Ruminated clear-eyed Awo: “… the agglomeration of obtuse, supine and unawakened minds that are responsible for this criminal neglect want to continue – indeed, perpetuate themselves in office.”

“Tinubu has ordered that Super Eagles must be in next World Cup”-NSC reveals

The Federal Government through the National Sports Commission (NSC), has set in motion plans and programs that will help actualize this big goal of the President and the over 210 million Nigerians.

One of such plans is the setting up of a STRATEGY GROUP for the Super Eagles and the Football Federation whose mandate is to compliment the NFF and to provide the necessary support with the backing of the Presidency.

“We gathered that the Presidency initially wanted something in the mode of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), of 2010, which was a Task Force, however, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, toned it down to a STRATEGY GROUP.

The Strategy Group’s role goes beyond just the Super Eagles games, they are to take special interest in the matches involving South Africa as well as other teams in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

“We gathered that an advance party of the Strategy Group will be leaving for South Africa next week to mobilize Nigerians in the former apartheid enclave to give the Super Eagles the much needed support before, during and after the all important confrontation against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

“It’s noteworthy to mention that the Super Eagles World Cup Strategic Group helped make Kigali, the Rwandan capital, home for the team by mobilizing support for the three time African champions.

The Sports Commission strongly believes that the Strategy Group and the NFF will replicate the Kigali experience in Blomfontein come the 9th of September.

To this end, the leadership of the National Sports Commission is appealing to Nigerians home and abroad to line up behind the country’s symbol of football success – the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles journey to the 2026 World Cup finals that is on the precipice of doom, with four must-win games against Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Super Eagles voyage to reach the 2026 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by America, Canada and Mexico had hit the rock before the National Sports Commission (NSC), under the stewardship of Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade was born.

Most football stakeholders who spoke our correspondents say no amount of effort, resources and money spent on the World Cup ticket is too much for the country and they pleaded with the NSC, the Strategy Group to support the Super Eagles and the NFF fully.

Meanwhile, the camp of the Super Eagles for the decide your destiny 2026 World Cup Qualifiers opens on the first of September in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South-South, Nigeria.

Nigeria is currently occupying the fourth spot in Group C of the Africa 2026 World Cup Qualifiers behind South Africa, Rwanda and Benin Republic.

On the general Africa World Cup Qualifiers, Nigeria is at number 30 and only the top 9 countries get automatic tickets to the 2026 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by America, Canada and Mexico.

The four best after this round of Qualifiers will be involved in a playoff that may offer Africa more slots. The four best group runners-up will be drawn into play-offs to determine the CAF representative at the inter-confederation play-offs.

Rwanda will be Nigeria’s guest on Match Day 7 on the 6th of September while the Super Eagles will travel to South Africa three days later for that all important confrontation against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Free State also known as Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The last time Nigeria met with the Amavubis of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on the 21st of March which was Match Day 5, the Eagles triumphed 2-0.

Both first half strikes came from Galatasaray’s new boy, Victor Osimhen in the 11th and 45th minute of the game watched by a capacity crowd that includes Rwanda’s number one citizen, His Excellency Paul Kagame.

  • You will lose 80% of Northern Muslim votes in 2027 if… – APC Forum tells Tinubu

You will lose 80% of Northern Muslim votes in 2027 if… – APC Forum tells Tinubu

The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has warned that President Bola Tinubu could lose 80 percent of northern Muslim votes if he bows to calls to jettison the Muslim-Muslim ticket and drop Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.

The North-Central APC Forum issued the warning in a statement released by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, in Abuja on Saturday.

Ahead of the 2027 election, Tinubu has come under pressure with various groups and stakeholders urging him to drop Shettima as his running mate. Some elements in the APC argue that the Muslim-Muslim ticket, which gave Tinubu victory in 2023, will not work in 2027, when he will be seeking a second term in office.

In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum, led by Dominic Alancha, warned Tinubu against a repeat of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, noting that it cost the APC several northern states like Nasarawa, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory in the 2023 presidential poll. Alancha further warned that the APC would lose more grounds in the North, particularly in the Middle Belt, if the party repeats the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the next presidential election.

However, responding to the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum’s call on Tibubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2027 election, the North-Central APC Forum, in the statement signed by Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council for the 2023 election, noted that the adoption of the Muslim-Muslim ticket was a strategy to win election and does not amount to marginalization of Christians and other religions.

Countering the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum’s assertion that Tinubu would lose Christian votes in the Middle Belt if he goes ahead with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the North-Central APC Forum insisted that there is no way the President will lose the region, with prominent Middle Belt christians such as APC National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda and Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, along others, holding key positions.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket will not affect President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the Middle Belt, which is part of the North-Central and this is because of the key positions held by Middle Belt christians in the APC government. We can guarantee that Tinubu will get 90 percent of the votes from the North-Central,” the statement said, adding that Tinubu’s achievements in office will guarantee his reelection and as a result, there is no need to take the “needless risk of changing a winning team”.

The APC Forum advised Tinubu to maintain the status quo and go into the 2027 election with Shettima as his running mate, so as to win the election.

The North-Central APC Forum further argued that those who are asking Tinubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket did not vote for him in 2023 and would still also not give him their votes in 2027 – even if he bows to their wish by dropping Shettima.

Parts of the statement read, “Those that are calling on President Bola Tinubu to change Vice President Kashim Shettima, basing their agitation on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, if you check, you will notice that in 2023, most of their communities voted for Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

“Now if Peter Obi is to come out again in 2027, as expected, what is the guarantee that they will vote for Tinubu even if he is to drop Shettima and replace him with a Christian? Does it mean that these people will now leave Peter Obi and vote for Tinubu?”

The APC Forum accused those campaigning against Shettima and the Muslim-Muslim ticket of mischief, noting that they are seeking Tinubu’s defeat in 2027.

“The truth is most of these people are not Tinubu’s supporters, they don’t really want him to win reelection in 2027. That is why some of them are going as far as urging Mr President to drop those that went to great lengths to work for his victory in 2023. They are only trying to deceive Mr President but we believe the President knows better and will be able to see through their mischief. They don’t mean well for Mr President and the party.”

The Forum, in the same vein, alleged that some people who claim to be working for the President’s reelection are alienating and marginalizing northern Muslim communities, while concentrating attention on northern Christians.

“Another issue that we want to bring to Mr President’s attention is there are people close to him – we will not mention their names but they know themselves. They are going about in different communities in the North, giving money to some communities while excluding others all in the name of asking northern Christian communities to vote for Tinubu. But while they are doing that they are alienating and marginalizing northern Muslim communities. This is counter productive and it will backfire eventually and we don’t want Mr President to suffer because of the poor decisions of these people who are close to him.

“Now these people who are concentrating on northern Christians should consider this – what if the 2023 scenario repeats itself in 2027 with Peter Obi also contesting and President Tinubu now loses both Christian and Muslim votes? What if the Christian communities again vote for Obi and the Muslim communities who are now being neglected also refuse to vote for Tinubu?

“These are the issues that these people who are calling on Mr President to drop Shettima are either not thinking about, or are ignoring because they are up to mischief and do not mean well for the President and the APC.

“Our sincere advise for Mr President is that he should maintain the status quo that produced him. We are not in support of calls for President Tinubu to change the Vice President. Changing Kashim Shettima will not bear any positive fruit in the election because, looking at the results of the 2023 election, all the Christian dominated areas in the North voted for Peter Obi and we don’t expect a different outcome in 2027. Rather, President Tinubu risks losing a large chunk of northern Muslim votes if he listens to these calls and goes ahead to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima.

“We advise Mr President not to gamble with the 2023 election. President Tinubu will lose 80 percent of northern Muslim votes if he decides to change Shettima. Even if he decides to replace him with another northern Muslim, he will lose northern Muslim votes so the best approach is to maintain the status quo and go with what worked for him in the last election,” the statement stressed.

Tinubu departs Japan for Brazil state visit

President Bola Tinubu departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night for Brazil, where he will begin a state visit on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement that the President would make a stopover in Los Angeles before proceeding to Brasília, the Brazilian capital.

The trip to Brazil marks the second leg of Tinubu’s two-nation tour, which began with his departure from Abuja on Aug. 15.

On his way to Japan, the President had a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before arriving in Yokohama on the morning of Aug. 18.

While in Japan, Tinubu participated in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), where he attended both the opening and plenary sessions on Aug. 20.

He also held a series of bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials, business leaders and development partners, aimed at strengthening ties between Nigeria and Japan.

The President further used the visit to highlight Nigeria’s economic reform agenda and to seek greater Japanese investment in infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy.

In addition to official engagements, Tinubu concluded his stay with an interactive session with Nigerians in the diaspora on Thursday night in Yokohama.

At the forum, he commended their contributions to national development and urged them to remain good ambassadors of Nigeria while exploring opportunities to invest back home.

Tinubu is expected to focus on trade, security, and cultural exchange during his Brazilian visit, reinforcing Nigeria’s bilateral relations with Latin America’s largest economy.

According to the Presidency, the visit will also feature discussions on cooperation in agriculture, energy transition, and regional security, areas of shared interest to both countries.

The President’s engagements in Brazil will include meetings with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other senior government officials.

He is also expected to meet with the Nigerian community in Brazil to brief them on government policies and encourage stronger diaspora participation in national growth.

The presidency confirmed that Tinubu is due to return to Nigeria after completing his official engagements in Brazil.
