Guber ambition: “Ignore detractors, I’m solidly behind Tinubu’s 2027 reelection – Ex-Gov Ambode declares

Ex-Governor of Lagos State, Akunwunmi Ambode has reacted to rumours linking to nursing another gubernatorial ambition in the state.

He has also stated that he is solidly standing behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Amode made the reactions via a statement he released today, describing as false, report of his being interested in becoming governor come 2027 under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aimed at causing distractions.

“I wish to publicly reaffirm my absolute and unshakable loyalty to the APC, the party under which I had the privilege of serving Lagos State as governor in 2015, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my leader, mentor, and a tireless champion for Nigeria’s progress,” Ambode said.

Describing the rumours as false, Ambode described Tinubu as a proven achiever and result-oriented leader who has achieved significant reforms in his first term.

“His focus, determination, and inclusive governance style are restoring hope and delivering tangible results.

I am convinced that, given another four years, Nigerians will have even greater reason to celebrate,” Ambode stated.

Rallying support for the president come 2027, Ambode stated:

“Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians,”

Ambode’s declaration comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the former governor making it clear that his political loyalty remains firmly with the APC and its leader.

  • Tinubu endorses pension reforms for DBS retirees

Tinubu endorses pension reforms for DBS retirees

President Bola Tinubu has endorsed measures aimed at improving the welfare of pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

A statement issued by Head of Corporate Communications at the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Olugbenga Ajayi, said the development marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s pension reform efforts.

Ajayi also noted that PTAD had previously settled arrears related to the first pension increment of 20% to 28%, which came into effect in January 2024.

The approvals, which align with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, contained the immediate implementation of an extra budgetary allocation to enforce new pension rates for DBS pensioners.

The President also endorsed the adoption of a proposed pension harmonisation policy, which will be incorporated into the 2026 pension budget. Additionally, health insurance coverage for all DBS pensioners has been approved, ensuring access to essential healthcare services.

This move shows President Tinubu’s strong commitment to senior citizens’ welfare and marks a new era in DBS pension management,” said PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya.

The President’s directive included unpaid liabilities owed to NITEL/MTEL pensioners and other retirees from defunct parastatals in the 2026 budget proposal.

These approvals follow a formal request submitted by Odunaiya, who had urged the Presidency to authorise emergency budgetary allocations to implement critical pension reforms.

The proposed reforms include a new pension rate of N32,000 and incremental increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for pensioners from defunct and privatised agencies. Other components of the reform package include harmonisation of pension rates across all DBS pensioners and their enrolment into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“We are grateful for the President’s leadership in prioritising the welfare of our retirees,” Odunaiya added. “This is a transformative moment for pension administration in Nigeria.”

In June, PTAD announced the successful disbursement of N8.6 billion in pension arrears to 148,625 eligible DBS pensioners across various sectors. The payments reflect the implementation of the N32,000 pension increment approved by President Tinubu in 2024.

According to Ajayi, the disbursements were made across several pension departments:

N5.7 billion to 59,342 pensioners under the Parastatals Pensions Department (PaPD)
N2.3 billion to 71,084 pensioners in the Civil Service Pensions Department (CSPD)
N310 million to 9,579 pensioners within the Police Pension Department (PPD)
N276 million to 8,620 pensioners under the Customs, Immigration, and Correctional Service Pension Department

President Bola Tinubu has approved the implementation of the long-awaited pension increase and the rollout of free healthcare for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

He gave the directive during a briefing from the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Omolola Oloworaran.

The President approved that an average pension increase of ₦32,000 be applied, with a minimum pension guarantee put in place to support the most vulnerable pensioners.

He stressed the need for immediate action to ease the financial pressure on retirees facing rising living costs.

Tinubu also directed PenCom to urgently resolve the long-standing police pension issue, stating that those who served the country in uniform must be able to retire with dignity and peace of mind.

During the meeting, the PenCom DG shared updates on efforts to protect pension assets from inflation and economic instability.

She also introduced a plan to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the pension scheme using foreign currency.

The President welcomed the reforms, restating his government’s goal of supporting inclusive welfare policies for all Nigerians, especially the elderly and vulnerable.

A new political movement known as “Ndokwa Forward” has formally thrown its weight behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Delta State leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, with a commitment to galvanize grassroots support across the Ndokwa nation.

The group made its official debut over the weekend during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, where it pledged loyalty to the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the President and the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori-led administration.

Receiving the group in Asaba, Sir Onyeme expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a timely and strategic platform to promote developmental policies within Ndokwa land.

He commended the leadership and members of the group for their passion and dedication, encouraging them to intensify their mobilization efforts.

“I sincerely commend ‘Ndokwa Forward’ for its bold step. You are doing a great service not only to the current administration but to our people. Let us continue to spread the message of progress and good governance,” Onyeme said, urging them to remain focused in their grassroots engagements ahead of future elections.

The Deputy Governor emphasized the need for sustained support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration to ensure the continued delivery of democratic dividends across Delta State. He also reaffirmed his personal commitment to the group’s vision and pledged to work closely with them to realize shared goals for the region’s development.

Speaking earlier, the leader of Ndokwa Forward, Hon. Barr. Sam Osasa, stated that the group’s emergence stems from a deep desire to promote the socio-political interests of Ndokwa people by aligning with progressive leadership at both state and federal levels.

“Our mission is clear, to rally support for President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Deputy Governor Onyeme,” Osasa declared. “We believe this synergy will yield sustainable benefits for our people.”

He stressed that Ndokwa Forward would remain a critical voice in advocating for developmental priorities and ensuring that the policies of the current administration are effectively communicated to the grassroots.

Also in attendance were co-leaders of the group: Dr. George Ugbomah representing Ndokwa East, and Chief Isaac Onyesom from Ukwuani. Their joint presence, Osasa noted, signifies a unified Ndokwa political front ready to support initiatives that foster growth, unity, and progress.

The visit marks the beginning of what stakeholders believe could be a formidable political force as Ndokwa Forward seeks to reshape narratives and strengthen democratic participation in the region.

If Buhari was a failure, Tinubu is disastrous – Ex-Police Affairs Minister

A Former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a total disaster that the country is sliding dangerously into deeper crises under the current government.

Waziri expressed grave concerns over the state of governance in Nigeria in an interview with Trust Television.

“If the Buhari government was a failure, the Tinubu government in the last two years is a disastrous catastrophe,” he said adding that “It has failed in all ramifications, and the country has regressed.”

He cited growing insecurity, worsening economic hardship, and increased corruption as hallmarks of the current administration’s failure.

“The economy is collapsing, ethnocentrism is at an all-time high, and insecurity continues to ravage many states,” he added.

Waziri argued that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has not only lost its sense of national direction but has also become more fragile and polarized.

He noted that those endorsing the government often come from areas directly affected by banditry and violence, making their support puzzling and disingenuous.

“I am surprised that people whose local governments are under the control of bandits can appear on national television to endorse this government,” he said.

He called for a sober assessment of the administration’s performance, urging Nigerians to look beyond media appearances and staged endorsements.

According to him, a government that has presided over national decline in every sector cannot credibly seek reelection.

Tinubu appointed Wike for a purpose, he’ll remove him – Sule Lamido

The former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike for his political interest.

Lamido made this assertion while speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Tuesday night.

According to him, Tinubu appointed Wike for a specific political purpose, and once it is accomplished, the former Rivers State governor will be dismissed.

“Tinubu was looking for someone who will help him in his political interest,” Lamido said.

“The whole appointment of Wike was to make sure Tinubu secures the South-South.

“So far, he has been able to get Akwa Ibom and Edo states. Wike already has Rivers State.

“By the time Tinubu is able to secure the South-South in his own basket, Wike will become irrelevant, and he will remove him.

“He appointed Wike for a purpose, gave him an office for a purpose; by the time the purpose is no more, that’s the end of it.”

  • “Don’t dump your VP, it will cause anarchy”- North East APC youths plead with TInubu

“Don’t dump your VP, it will cause anarchy”- North East APC youths plead with TInubu

The North-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Parliament has warned against any attempt to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as running mate in the 2027 general elections, saying such a move would plunge the party into chaos.

The group, which coordinates over 200 affiliate youth organisations across the six North-East states, issued the warning in a statement released after a strategic meeting held in Bauchi on Friday.

Reading the communiqué, the chairman of the group, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Kobi, said there are growing signs of internal manoeuverings by what he called “mischievous elements” within the party, plotting to remove Shettima from the ticket.

His words: “The rising tension within our party is a brewing storm that could shake the very foundation of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

“A house built on unity and shared ambition now stands at the edge of division, with cracks visible for all to see.”

He warned that ignoring these cracks could lead to the kind of internal collapse that affected the PDP in 2015.

Kobi alleged that the push to remove Shettima was being disguised as party restructuring, but described it as a calculated move that would be firmly resisted by loyal APC members across the North-East.

“Any attempt to reconfigure the Tinubu/Shettima ticket in 2027 will only bring resentment and chaos that could linger beyond the elections,” he stated.

The youth group also expressed concern about the spread of what it described as covert alliances aimed at undermining Shettima’s role in the current administration, despite his leading role in managing the economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We must not allow excessive ambition to override reason. The Vice President has been instrumental in confronting the tough economic challenges inherited by this administration,” Kobi said.

He described President Bola Tinubu as a reform-minded leader who is making difficult but necessary decisions for Nigeria’s long-term stability.

“Undermining the current leadership structure would be a gross injustice and a setback to national progress,” he added.

The group urged the APC leadership to remain united behind the current ticket, warning that political miscalculations could endanger the party’s chances in 2027.

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged northern political leaders to support his principal re-election bid.

Gbajabiamila made the appeal at the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the former lawmaker insisted that the North is benefitting from the current administration in various ways.

He added, “President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader. ; he is a national leader who has carried every region along.

“From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity.

“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started.”
