Tottenham chairman to make Conte second highest paid in EPL

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to make Antonio Conte the second highest paid manager in the country.

Conte is in talks with the North Londoners, having left Inter Milan at the end of the season.

The Mirror reports Conte could be offered an incredible salary of up to £15m-a-year – in addition to funds being made available to spend on the squad.

Levy, 59, is also reportedly bullish over his chances of keeping Harry Kane at Tottenham.

And Conte is eager to work with the England skipper.

Should the Italian take the job, only Pep Guardiola would earn more than him in the Premier League.

The former Barcelona boss rakes in around £20m per season at Manchester City.

While Conte’s new salary would tie him with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Man Utd ready to sell Martial to bid for Kane

Premier League club Manchester United will consider offers for French forward Anthony Martial this summer.

The Times says Tottenham striker Harry Kane is attracting interest from United this summer and the club could even sanction the sale of Martial to fund the England captain’s transfer.

Martial has taken a step backwards this season after an encouraging campaign leading the line.

And the Frenchman could be the ‘designated causality’ should United sign a star striker.

Kane is the elite forward who could be available this summer and United could sell injury-hit Martial to fund a sensational transfer.

Martial has also been mentioned as a makeweight in a swap for the England captain.

    Gareth Bale considering early retirement

Tottenham loanee Gareth Bale is considering an early retirement.

Bale, who is currently on loan at Tottenham, is due to return to the Spanish capital at the end of the season.

The Welshman has just over 12 months left to run on his current deal, and while it always seemed unlikely Bale would look to stick around at the Bernabeu, AS says he could now quit the game altogether.

Bale has made no bones about the fact a loan move to Spurs was part of his plan to get fit for the European Championship this summer.

Indeed, to avoid a re-occurrence of his numerous muscle injuries, Bale has drawn up his own individual training plan which has seen him take part in only three work-outs a week – one of them being a recovery session.

Kane: Mourinho wanted us to be men, leaders – some couldn’t do that

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has questioned the maturity of his teammates in their approach to former manager Jose Mourinho.

Kane admits Mourinho expected his players to be “professional” and “be men”, demands which some struggled to handle.

Discussing Mourinho and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, Kane told The Overlap YouTube channel: “It was pretty much completely different if I’m honest.

“Just in the style of play, the way they set up, tactical training we would do.

“Obviously Mauricio we do a lot of gym work, it was a lot gym base whereas Jose wasn’t so much into that but Jose obviously expected us to be men and act like men on the pitch, have leaders on the pitch.

“To be honest, that’s probably where it didn’t quite work out with Jose we didn’t quite have enough leadership that we needed at the time. Obviously the club was in a difficult stage, with Mauricio getting sacked it’s never easy a new manager coming in.

  • Levy and I need to have honest conversation – Harry Kane

Levy and I need to have honest conversation – Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he hopes to have “a good, honest conversation” with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about his future.

Reports this week claim England captain Kane, 27, has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place to leave the club – and has even formally asked to go.

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville, Kane said he would not want to end his career with “any regrets”.

“There’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club,” said Kane.

“It’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman.

“As players you don’t know what the chairman is thinking. He might want to sell me. He might be thinking, ‘If I could get £100m then why not?’ I’m not going to be worth that for the next two or three years.”

Kane, who signed a six-year deal with the club that runs until 2024, remains without a trophy after Spurs lost April’s Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

Defeat by Aston Villa on Wednesday means Tottenham go into the Premier League’s final day in seventh place – which would give them a place in the new Europa Conference League play-off round.

He added: “I’m sure that [Levy] will want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career at this moment in time.

“I don’t want to have come to the end of my career and have any regrets. I want to be the best that I can be. I’ve said before, I’d never say that I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career [and] I’d never say that I would leave Spurs.”

Manchester United and City are watching developments around Kane closely.

What we want in next manager – Tottenham chairman

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has set out the criteria for their next manager.

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho as manager in April and appointed Ryan Mason as interim boss in the week leading up to their Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City.

Spurs striker Harry Kane has reportedly told the club he wants to leave

but Levy says “that central to our ambitions is a successful football team” as the club “focus” on appointing a new manager.

“We are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known – free-flowing, attacking and entertaining,” said Levy.

Barcelona have approached Tottenham about a price for Harry Kane.

It’s emerged this week that Kane has informed Spurs he wishes to be sold this summer.

A move within the Premier League has been mooted, with Manchester United and Manchester City both preparing big money offers.

However, The Times says Barca could offer a continental route out of London to Kane after making an enquiry.

The Catalans are serious about taking Kane to Spain this summer. However for the moment, England’s captain is favouring staying in the Premier League.

We need an ambitious coach – Tottenham midfielder

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg hopes the club gets their next managerial appointment right.

Spurs are looking for a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese’s sacking last month and are understood to have compiled a shortlist.

Hojbjerg said: “It is a difficult question, it is not one I can answer, or one I want to answer.

“But Tottenham is an ambitious club and we need an ambitious coach.”

Hojbjerg, a contender for the club’s player of the season, conceded his side have under-achieved but wants to make sure they secure Europa League qualification.

He added: “We haven’t reached the ultimate target that we wanted to reach. We had a cup final so we had the chance to win some silverware, we didn’t do that, so the disappointment is of course there.

“But now we have to be in the present and the present is to achieve and try and be part of the top six, top five and miraculously top four. Again we will try and do our things and see what happens.”

Tottenham have relayed a warning to new Roma coach Jose Mourinho.

The Mirror says Spurs have told former manager Mourinho he will not be able to sign Eric Dier or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg next season at Roma.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham last month but it took just 15 days for the boss to get a new job.

It was rumoured Dier and Hojbjerg were at the top of his list, alongside Manchester United’s Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

But Spurs will not consider offers from Roma for their midfield pair.

‘Mourinho is the best for me and for my memory’

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son says it is “so sad” that Jose Mourinho left the North London club without delivering tangible success, with the Portuguese still considered to be “one of the best managers in the world”.

Son remains disappointed that Spurs were unable to deliver another entry on a distinguished roll of honour for Mourinho, with the South Korean forward telling TV3: “It is always sad if someone loses their job.

“I also don’t want to talk about it too much, I was working with him for 18 months.

“It’s been up and down. It’s been good, sometimes we’ve been not so good.

“For me and for my memory, he will still be one of the best managers in the world.
