Key reason to Mourinho’s sack by Tottenham

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho over concerns of missing out on RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, it has been claimed.

The Telegraph says Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham following Levy’s decision to accelerate the appointment of a new manager – prompted by the interest in young German coach Julian Nagelsmann from perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Levy had made the decision over the weekend following the 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday night that left Spurs with one win in their last five league games and in reaction to the news that Bayern head coach Hansi Flick will not lead the club next season.

Nagelsmann is favourite to succeed Flick at the end of this campaign.

Harry Kane has thanked Jose Mourinho after he was sacked as manager of Tottenham on Monday.

The Portuguese was shown the door after 17 months at the club, just days from the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

Kane was the first Spurs player to release a statement following the news.

He wrote on his Twitter account, accompanied by a photo of the pair: “Thank you for everything, Boss. A pleasure to have worked together.

“I wish you all the best for your next chapter.”

Mourinho reveals next action after Tottenham sack

Axed Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has spoken on his future few hours after he was dismissed.

Mourinho, however, refused to to comment on the shock sacking, “No, no. Thanks so much. I’m not going to speak. ‘You know me, you know that I’m not going to say anything,” when asked by Sky Sports if he has something to say about it.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was sacked by Spurs after a disappointing season.

After the sack, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss was seen returning to his west London home to unpack all the belongings from his office, including a number of photos.

There, he met reporters looking to get his first interview on his sacking,

Asked by Sky Sports if he had anything to say, Mourinho replied, “Nice picture’ as he lifted aloft one of his framed photos, before adding: ‘No, no. Thanks so much. I’m not going to speak.

“You know me, you know that I’m not going to say anything.”

Asked if he would take a break, Mourinho shook his head and replied:

“No. No need. No need [for] breaks and no need for [recharging] batteries.”

Probed on whether he wants to be back in football as soon as possible, Mourinho smiled and said: “I’m always in football.”

Wayne Rooney slams Tottenham for sacking Mourinho

Derby manager Wayne Rooney has slammed Tottenham over the sacking of Jose Mourinho today.

Spurs have fired their Portuguese coach just six days before they meet Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, and Rooney believes there is no-one better to outwit Pep Guardiola than Mourinho.

“I think it’s crazy doing it before a cup final,” said Rooney, who worked with Mourinho at Manchester United. “It’s strange timing anyway. Surely they could have waited until after the cup final if that’s the direction they wanted to go in.

“Mourinho is a manager who loves winning trophies, that’s quite clear to see. He’s won a lot of trophies throughout his career.

“If there was one manager to set up a team to play against Man City in a cup final it’s Jose Mourinho. Tottenham haven’t had the best of seasons so from that point of view so it’s crazy and a massive risk.

“I’m sure Daniel Levy could have waited until the day after the game, that would have made more sense if they wanted to get rid of Mourinho.”

  • Mourinho set to miss out on full £30m payout after sack

Mourinho set to miss out on full £30m payout after sack

Premier League club Tottenham will avoid a full pay-out to sacked manager Jose Mourinho.

The Daily Mail says Mourinho leaves with significantly less than the widely purported £30m compensation package he was said to be due.

Sources have claimed that his package will not go over £20m due to performance-related clauses in his contract linked to European qualification and his £10m-per-season salary.

Mourinho will be placed on gardening leave by Tottenham despite his dismissal, meaning Spurs will continue to pay him as normal until he finds new employment.

As a result of Spurs’ poor league position, Mourinho is effectively not entitled to his full compensation. Spurs are seventh in the Premier League, five points off the final Champions League place, currently occupied by West Ham.

Initial indications that Mourinho was earning £15m per season are said to be exaggerated.

His basic wage is closer to £10m, which significantly decreases his severance deal.

It has been claimed that coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell are set to take the reins for the rest of the season.

BREAKING: Tottenham sack Jose Mourinho as manager

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham after just 17 months in charge.

The announcement comes just hours after the Premier League club announced its plans to join a European Super League.

The 58-year-old had been in charge of Spurs since November 2019 after taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.

The Portuguese manager’s original deal with the north London club had been due to run until the end of the 2023 season.

His departure comes with Spurs in seventh position in the table and five points away from the places needed for Champions League qualification. In their last match on Friday, Spurs drew 2-2 with Everton.

It also comes just days before Spurs meet Manchester City in the final of the League Cup at Wembley.

When Mourinho took charge at Spurs, the club was 14th in the league table – but he led them to sixth to secure Europa League qualification.

Spurs are among 12 clubs to have rocked the world of football by announcing the formation of a breakaway European Super League.

Paul Pogba launches attack on Jose Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has launched a furious attack on Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder has opened up on the turbulent spell under Mourinho at Old Trafford and pointed out what has changed under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“What I have now with Ole is different, he wouldn’t go against the players,” Pogba told Sky Sports. “He wouldn’t go against the players.

“Maybe Ole wouldn’t pick them, but it’s not like he puts them on the side like they don’t exist anymore. That’s the difference between Mourinho and Ole.

“Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, everybody saw that, and the next day you don’t know what happened. That’s the strange thing I had with Mourinho and I cannot explain to you because even I don’t know. So, yeah.”

He had the last laugh when they met Mourinho’s Tottenham at the weekend, with Pogba taking the opportunity to have another swipe.

“We won the game, he lost the game and he doesn’t want to speak about the game, he wants to speak about the dad of someone, that’s what he does,” Pogba added. “Everybody knows him, it’s very Mourinho.”

Maurizio Sarri to meet with Tottenham in London

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri continues to be linked with Tottenham.

Tottenham could meet with Sarri next week to hold talks over the possibility of replacing Jose Mourinho, says the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sarri is without a club after being sacked by Juventus and reports in Italy this week claimed he was in the frame to take over at Spurs.

It’s suggested the Premier League side want to hold talks over the possibility of hiring him.

Talks between the club and Sarri could take place in London as early as next week with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy weighing up his options for the managerial hot seat.

It is also reported that Tottenham were initially interested in hiring Sarri in the summer of 2018, when he left Napoli to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri, 62, is said to be aware of Tottenham’s interest as he ponders a return to management.

Ighalo confirms Tottenham move before Man Utd

Odion Ighalo admits he came close to joining Tottenham before moving to Manchester United.

The Nigerian spent a year on loan at United from Shanghai Shenhua, scoring five goals in 23 appearances, before leaving for Saudi side Al Shabab in January.

Ighalo fulfilled a lifelong dream playing for the Red Devils, which initially motivated him to reject Spurs.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Ighalo said: “That was close – my agent called me and told me they had offered to match whatever I was earning but once I heard Manchester United were interested, there was no turning back.

“I couldn’t think about anything else other than making the Manchester United deal work. I was going to have to take a pay cut but I didn’t care, I just wanted the deal to happen.

“I just wanted to play for Manchester United. It’s my dream club and it was always going to be a privilege for me to play at Old Trafford.

“I’m just so grateful to God that it happened. Every day I wake up and I know that I am an ex-Manchester United player. It is something that I will never take for granted.”

Premier League club slap £175M price-tag on striker

Premier League club Tottenham are set to keep hold of Harry Kane over the summer.

The Sun says Kane is primed to stay at Tottenham this summer with the club reportedly refusing to sell him to a Premier League rival while demanding an eye-watering £175million from foreign clubs.

The England star, 27, was tipped for a move away from Spurs this summer and had drawn interest from Manchester City, United and Real Madrid.

However, Tottenham will block Kane from joining another Premier League club while Madrid and any other potential suitor are being told they’ll need to stump up £175m to sign their star striker.

Kane is loyal to his boyhood club but realises he might have to leave them in order to win the trophies his talent deserves, having so far failed to win a single piece of silverware in his career.

He still has three years left on the £200,000-a-week bumped contract he signed back in the summer of 2018.

Tottenham do not want to lose Kane, who is their top scorer this season with 22 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, and will dig their heels in a bid to make sure he stays at the club for next season.
