I have to go back to Real Madrid – Bale

Gareth Bale has clarified his comments on his future ahead of the expiry of his Tottenham loan deal, insisting that his contract means he “legally” must return to Real Madrid at first.

Bale is heading towards the end of a season-long loan spell at Spurs, who do not have the option to sign him outright from Madrid at the end of the season.

The Welshman made headlines last week after revealing he is planning to return to Santiago Bernabeu, but has now explained that he has yet to make a final decision on where he will play in 2021-22.

Speaking ahead of Wales’ 2020 World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic on Tuesday, Bale told reporters: “I think for me, first and foremost I still have this season, and I still have plenty of games to go for the Euros.

“Obviously, going into next season, legally my contract says I have to go back to Real Madrid, which is what I stated, which I don’t think is being disrespectful to anybody. That’s legally what I have to do.

“Real Madrid are my parent club and as far as I agreed I was with Tottenham on loan until the end of the season and I go back. That’s the plan so far.”

Ex-Madrid president: Gareth Bale disappointed with Tottenham loan

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Gareth Bale is disappointed with his Tottenham loan.

This week Bale said he was expecting to return to Madrid once his one-year loan spell came to an end, with another year left on his contract in the Spanish capital.

“He’s not happy about his time at Tottenham and Mourinho doesn’t seem to be very happy either,” Calderon told talkSPORT.

“He’s not counting on him in many matches and Bale is disappointed and maybe that’s the reason he would like to return.”

Calderon said he would need to work hard to win supporters back if he were to return to Zinedine Zidane’s side.

“Fans are very volatile, it depends on his performances.

“If he’s going to play well and score goals like he did when he came then fans will back him.

“But if he’s not then problems will come again. This club is very demanding, I remember with Zidane they were booing him for the first five months because they thought we’ve paid a lot of money for a player that wasn’t playing as they expected.

“I’m sure fans will be backing him if he does things well.”

Tottenham set to replace Lloris with England goalkeeper

Tottenham are ready to replace Hugo Lloris with an England goalkeeper this summer.

The Sun says Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Nick Pope (Burnley) and Sam Johnstone (West Brom) are in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad that met up on Monday.

And the trio are all on Spurs’ shortlist to replace Lloris as their No 1.

The club captain, who delivered a stunning outburst at Jose Mourinho’s squad after last week’s Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb, has just a year left on his deal.

He is tipped to want to return home to France his summer, leaving Spurs looking closer to home for a successor.

Lloris, 34, has played 363 times for Spurs since they signed him from Lyon for £11m in 2012.

He has been linked with a summer switch to join former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham players believe in Mourinho – Moura

Lucas Moura has insisted that the whole Tottenham squad are united behind under-fire boss Jose Mourinho amid the club’s turbulent 2020-21 campaign.

Mourinho’s position in the Spurs dugout has been called into question in the wake of a nightmare week which saw the team follow up a north London derby defeat to Arsenal by exiting the Europa League in shocking fashion at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.

“It’s been a very bad week for us, the feeling was very bad,” the Spurs winger told the Evening Standard : “Last night, we showed our nature, we showed attitude.

“The good thing about football is you don’t have time to cry. We talked about [the Dinamo] game. The manager told us a lot of things, but the kind of things we need to keep between us.

“He has a lot of experience and he tried to motivate us, and it was very good for last night’s game. Let’s go. We have nine games to play, we have a final (the Carabao Cup), let’s finish the season well.

“We are all together. We’re in the same boat. We lose together, we win together. What happened in Croatia was our fault. Everyone included. When we’re on the pitch, we just want to win.

“We know there are a lot of fans behind the TV supporting us. We play for our family, we play for pride and we’re all together. We believe in the coach. We believe in the coach because we know his history. We just want to be successful here.”

Tottenham captain blasts ‘mentally weak’ teammates

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris blasted his teammates after their dismal Europa League elimination at the hands of a rampant Dinamo Zagreb.

Spurs were sent crashing out by a brilliant Mislav Orsic hat-trick as they blew a two-goal lead from the first leg.

The capitulation piles the pressure on Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, coming just four days after their limp North London derby defeat to fierce rivals Arsenal.

Asked how the players were feeling after their humbling, the goalkeeper pulled no punches, saying: “Good question. I think we are all more than disappointed.

“It’s just a disgrace. I just hope everyone in the changing room feels responsible for the situation, because it’s a disgrace.

“What more can I say about it? Talking about the game from Sunday, I think it is not the right moment.

“Just the taste of the defeat tonight is more than painful and we are all responsible for that.

“Obviously we are a club which is full of ambition but I just think the team at the moment is a reflection of what’s going on in the club.”

Lloris said Tottenham had been punished for failing to master the basics – and for underestimating their opponents.

“We have a lack of basics, lack of fundamentals and all our performance is just in relation to that,” said the France international.

“I think mentally we should be stronger, we should be more competitive. Today, I didn’t feel that on the field, unfortunately.

“When you are not ready at this level you pay straight away.

“It doesn’t matter who the opponent is, there is quality everywhere in the Europa. If you don’t respect the opponent it’s kind of permission and that’s what happened today.

“Full credit belongs to the opponent as well because they played the game full of belief, but the blame is on us, all the team, all the club. We are guilty.”

Asked to expand, he added: “I don’t have to go deeper. I mean it’s not possible.

“The way we play is just not enough, not enough. It’s one thing to come in front of the camera to say we’re ambitious, the other is to show it every day in training sessions, to show it every time on the pitch.

“You cannot let it down, if you play or don’t play. To behave as a team is the most difficult thing in football, whatever is the decision of the manager you have to follow the way of the team.

“If you follow the team only when you are in the starting XI, that causes big problems for the team because you pay in one moment and you’re going to pay in your season.

“Today I think is the consequence of that. We had great moments in the past because we could trust the togetherness that was in the team.

“Today, I’m not sure, I don’t know about that.

Axed Arsenal captain Aubameyang breaks silence

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was set to start the North London derby on Sunday against Tottenham before he was dropped for Alexandre Lacazette who wore the captain’s armband.

The 31-year-old took to social media to celebrate the Gunners’ triumph after goals from Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette helped them surmount Jose Mourinho’s side.

Aubameyang was prepared to start the encounter at the Emirates Stadium but he was dropped to the bench for disciplinary reasons and Lacazette led the frontline with the captain’s armband.

He was looking to make an appearance later in the game as he was seen warming up in the second half with Willian who replaced Emile Smith Rowe in the 77th minute. However, Aubameyang was not chosen to come on.

“North London is Red and that’s it!!!,” Aubameyang wrote on Instagram with a picture of the team’s celebration.

Harry Kane made wrong decision leaving Arsenal – Wenger

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Harry Kane should never have left the club for Tottenham.

Kane’s time at Highbury was made famous after photos emerged of him in an Arsenal top celebrating the 2004 Invincibles title win.

But after Arsenal legend Liam Brady deemed him ‘a bit chubby’ and ‘not very athletic’, the striker was released after just one season in the academy.

Wenger, with a wry smile, told BT Sport: “Well, that’s where he made the wrong decision.

“I know about this story but he was very young.

“He was nine-years-old, something like that, and his father moved… I don’t know exactly what happened.

Gareth Bale says he’s feeling good with his decision to return to Tottenham this season.

The Wales captain has hit his stride in recent games as he stars on-loan from Real Madrid.

He is quoted by Mundo Deportivo: “My departure from Real Madrid? Everyone knows how much I love Tottenham.

“I left Madrid because I wanted to play and I wanted to help the team.

“Coming back to a place where I knew I would receive a lot of love made it easier for me.”

In-form Gareth Bale sends warning to Arsenal

Tottenham forward Gareth Bale has fired a warning at Arsenal ahead of the North London derby.

The Real Madrid loanee struck a brace in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace to continue his own excellent form.

Bale has hit a purple patch during the last month with six goals and three assists in his last six games in all competitions to help Spurs put together a five-game winning streak.

It has ignited their top four hopes in the Premier League at a crucial time, with a short trip to rivals Arsenal up next in the division on Sunday.

“Going into next week’s game we have confidence behind us now but we know it’s going to be difficult,” Bale said.

“Obviously a midweek game (against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League) before that but we’ll recover and go again.”

Tottenham duo combine to break 26-year EPL record

Tottenham pair Harry Kane and Heung-min Son broke a Premier League record in victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Kane and Son have now combined for 14 Premier League goals this season, the highest amount that any two players have mustered in the division during a single campaign.

The previous record was 13 goals, set by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton during Blackburn’s title-winning campaign of 1994-95.

In the 2018-19 season, meanwhile, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson linked up for 12 goals for Bournemouth.

Tottenham have also now scored 100 goals this season across all competitions.
