I’m 100 per cent Tottenham, Mourinho declares

Jose Mourinho says he is now “100 per cent Tottenham” ahead of facing his former club Chelsea in Sunday’s London derby and claims he has “no space for previous clubs”.

Mourinho managed Chelsea in two spells, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups.

In his second stint at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho claimed he would never manage Spurs because of his emotional attachment to the Blues.

Asked whether he can get over playing his former club Chelsea, he said: “Yes, of course. I can but maybe others can’t but I can. For me it’s a game.

“I am 100 per cent Tottenham, I’ve always been 100 per cent my club throughout my career.

“There’s no space at all for my previous clubs. I gave everything to all of them, I kept nothing back and I gave everything to them.

  • EPL: Mourinho revives Tottenham to move fifth

Jan Vertonghen scored a dramatic late winner as Tottenham ended Wolves’ 11-match unbeaten Premier League run to narrow the gap on the top four with victory at Molineux.

Vertonghen headed in from a corner in injury time, after Wolves’ relentless approach had been rewarded as Adama Traore thumped in a deserved equaliser from the edge of the box midway through the second half.

Following a breathless opening period, Lucas Moura’s mazy run and exquisite finish into the roof of the net had put Tottenham ahead after eight minutes.

Spurs had to withstand intense pressure as Wolves chased an equaliser, but it was they who went closest before half-time as Eric Dier struck the post from Dele Alli’s delightful, dinked pass.

Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga produced an excellent save from Romain Saiss’ header in the closing stages as Jose Mourinho’s visitors hung on, before Vertonghen’s decisive goal.

Victory sees Tottenham climb above Wolves to fifth, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea who they face next Sunday.

Mourinho bans Tottenham players from watching replays of Bayern defeat

Jose Mourinho has forbidden his Tottenham players from watching back their humiliating 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich ahead of their match in Germany tonight.

Spurs, then managed by Mauricio Pochettino, suffered what was one of the heaviest defeats in their 137-year history back in October, despite having taken a first-half lead through Heung-min Son.

Two months on, and Mourinho has replaced Pochettino as manager and have qualified for the knockout stages of the competition.

But ahead of the reverse fixture of that devastating loss, Mourinho was asked whether he and his players have analysed the match – and if so, have the players been left scared by it.

“No, I forbid any image of it,” answered Mourinho. “I watched it a couple of times: me, my staff and analysts try to go through every single aspect of that but not one single image for the boys. No. Not at all. We’re going to focus more on us than on Bayern. “

“We’re going to try to develop our model of play, with different bodies, different phases, different players. But there is a certain way that we try to play football and try to develop our principles of play.

  • EPL: Mourinho win big after Man Utd defeat

Son Heung-min scored one of the goals of the Premier League season as Tottenham returned to winning ways under Jose Mourinho by brushing aside Burnley.

Son picked up the ball on the edge of his area before sprinting the length of the pitch – leaving a trail of Burnley players in his wake – and slotting in to give Spurs a 3-0 half-time lead.

That all but sealed victory after Harry Kane had thumped the home team ahead and Lucas Moura converted a second from close range.

Burnley had chances of their own in the first half, hitting the woodwork through Robbie Brady, but paid dearly for their defence vulnerability.

Spurs skipper Kane took advantage of more slack defending to fire in the fourth, then combined with Moussa Sissoko – again allowed to waltz through unchallenged – for the fifth.

Mourinho’s side moved up to fifth as a result – for the time being at least with Wolves having the chance to go back above them on Sunday – while Burnley drop to 13th, three points above the relegation zone after their third defeat in a row.

  • EPL: Worried Mourinho sleeps at Tottenham’s training ground

EPL: Worried Mourinho sleeps at Tottenham’s training ground

Jose Mourinho said he reacted to Tottenham’s midweek defeat at Manchester United by sleeping at the club’s training ground.

His 100 per cent record since taking over at Spurs came to an end in a 2-1 loss against his former club at Old Trafford.

However, he said he refused to wallow in pity and instead started planning for Saturday’s home game against Burnley.

“I slept in here (the training ground), I stayed here, I didn’t go home, so the next morning at eight o’clock I was here doing what? Burnley,” Mourinho explained on Friday.

“Analysing Burnley, trying to organise the training session, trying to organise the meeting, choosing the clips to show them the most clear possible way Burnley works.

“That’s the way you have to do it in football. Don’t accept in a passive way.”

Now, Mourinho has ordered his squad to respond to the midweek setback.

“After a defeat you cannot be sad. You have to be more than that. You have to be raging, angry, not sad,” said the 56-year-old.

  • My time at Man Utd a closed chapter – Mourinho

My time at Man Utd a closed chapter – Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho says his time at Manchester United is a ‘closed chapter’ as he prepares to take Spurs to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Mourinho left United in December 2018 after two-and-a-half years as manager.

The Portuguese was out of work until taking over at Spurs in November, winning his first three matches.

“This is a closed chapter for me. I left the club, I took my time to process everything that happened,” Mourinho said.

“I took my time to prepare myself for the next challenge.

“Honestly, United for me is in my book of experiences, it’s in my history book.”

Mourinho left United when they were sixth in the Premier League. They are currently ninth under his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but just two points behind Tottenham, who are fifth.

The 56-year-old won the League Cup, the Europa League and the Community Shield during his time at United, as well as finishing runners-up in the league in 2017-18.

“It is not for me to analyse United now,” he said. “I analyse them as an opponent, how they play. How can we beat them? How can they beat us? For me that is the important thing.

“I have a great relationship with the Manchester United supporters. I went back as a pundit and I was humbled by such a beautiful reception.

“Tomorrow I go back as the coach of the team that will try to beat Manchester United.

“I understand that what they want is the exact opposite of what I want. Of course during the match I expect them to forget me.”

  • Liverpool restore six-point lead with win over Tottenham

Liverpool restore six-point lead with win over Tottenham

Liverpool needed two second-half goals to come from behind to beat Tottenham at Anfield and restore their six-point lead at the top of the table.

Harry Kane scored within 48 seconds of kick-off and keeper Paulo Gazzaniga pulled off a number of impressive saves to give Spurs a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Jordan Henderson equalised six minutes after the break before Mo Salah thumped the winner from the penalty spot.

Liverpool’s unbeaten run at home extends to 45 league games.

In a repeat of June’s Champions League final, Liverpool once again came out victorious and have dropped just two points in the Premier League this season.

They were made to work for it – needing several big chances to score before Henderson eventually slotted his half-volley into the far corner early in the second half.

That came moments after Son Heung-min had smacked the crossbar for the second time in the match – his first effort was nodded in by Kane from seven yards out for the opener.

But Liverpool’s pressure eventually took its toll when Serge Aurier caught the back of Sadio Mane’s leg and gave away a penalty, which Salah smashed past a stationary Gazzaniga with 15 minutes left.

  • Tottenham draw Watford with late Alli equaliser

Tottenham draw Watford with late Alli equaliser

Dele Alli rescued a late point for Tottenham to deny visitors Watford a first Premier League win of the season amid video assistant referee (VAR) confusion.

With the out-of-form hosts desperately seeking a way back into the game, Hornets keeper Ben Foster flapped at an 86th-minute cross, with Alli controlling with his shoulder before turning the ball into the net.

The video assistant referee reviewed the goal and decided it was correctly awarded. The big screen, however, indicated that the decision was ‘no goal’. After a spell of confusion, the goal stood.

For large periods before Alli’s intervention, it had looked as though Mauricio Pochettino’s side were going to suffer a fifth defeat in six games.

Watford, who lost Danny Welbeck to an early hamstring injury, took the lead when Abdoulaye Doucoure swept home Daryl Janmaat’s cross.

And they had a strong penalty appeal turned down by referee Chris Kavanagh – and the VAR – when Jan Vertonghen brought down Gerard Deulofeu.

But, despite coming agonisingly close, their wait for a first Premier League win continues and they remain bottom.

  • EPL: Tottenham in talks with Mourinho

Tottenham have made contact with Jose Mourinho on the possibility of taking over the managerial position at White Hart Lane, according to Soccer Link.

Mauricio Pochettino is under fire at the club, following a poor start to the season, despite investing heavily in the squad this summer.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has been without a job since he was sacked at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese has gone into punditry while rejecting several offers.

Mourinho recently rejected the Lyon role and the Ligue 1 side’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, claimed it was because he had agreed to join an English club.

Pochettino guided Spurs to their first Champions League final where they lost 0-2 to Liverpool in June. They also finished 4th in the Premier League table last season but have been a shadow of the same team this season losing 0-7 to Bayern Munich in a Champions League match.

  • EPL: Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris to miss rest of 2019

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to miss the rest of 2019 with a dislocated elbow but does not need surgery, the club said.

Lloris, injured during Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, is not expected to train again until next year.

He fell awkwardly as he failed to hold a third-minute Pascal Gross cross, with Neal Maupay nodding in the loose ball.

“Although surgery will not be required, our club captain has suffered ligament damage,” Spurs said in a statement.

“He is not expected to return to training before the end of 2019.

“Hugo is currently in a brace and will now undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation.”
