  • EPL: Son rescues Tottenham with late win over Newcastle

Tottenham moved into second in the Premier League as Son Heung-min struck late to deny a gallant Newcastle a point at Wembley Stadium.

The South Korean forward benefitted from a Martin Dubravka error with seven minutes left as his powerful 20-yard shot went under the Newcastle goalkeeper’s body.

The away side were well organised and gritty throughout, with Fabian Schar’s acrobatic goalline clearance to deny Christian Eriksen in the second half epitomising their spirit.

Rafael Benitez’s side had chances of their own, with Salomon Rondon heading against the post with the score at 0-0 but their resistance was broken when substitute Fernando Llorente laid the ball off for Son to score a ninth goal in his past 10 Spurs appearances.

The win means Mauricio Pochettino’s side set a Premier League record as they reached 29 matches in a row without a draw, eclipsing Bolton’s mark of 28 set in 2011.

Chelsea rejects Spurs bid, Batshuayi set for Palace move

Michy Batshuayi has agreed terms with Crystal Palace ahead of a potential loan move from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.

The deal looks set to go down to the wire on Deadline Day, and comes after Chelsea refused to deal with Tottenham over a potential loan deal for the Belgian.

Batshuayi joined Chelsea in July 2016 for a fee in the region of £33m from Ligue 1 side Marseille.

FA Cup: Tottenham suffers shock exit as Palace go through

Tottenham went out of their second knockout competition in four days after defeat by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Selhurst Park.

Having lost a Carabao Cup semi-final to Chelsea on penalties on Thursday, Spurs were 2-0 down inside 35 minutes.

Connor Wickham marked his first start since November 2016 with a goal before a penalty by ex-Spurs midfielder Andros Townsend doubled the lead.

Spurs missed a penalty before half-time when Kieran Trippier blazed wide.

It was their third miss from the spot in two games after Lucas Moura and Eric Dier failed in Thursday’s shootout at Stamford Bridge as Spurs went out of the EFL Cup.

A much-changed Tottenham side were lacklustre against Palace.

On the few occasions they did create serious chances, they could not find a way past Julian Speroni, with the 39-year-old Argentine keeper making crucial saves to keep out Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Fernando Llorente.

Palace fans celebrated wildly at the final whistle after a first win over Tottenham since 2016 saw them advance to the fifth round for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when they went on to reach the final.

  • Pochettino Hints On New Signings At Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says they are working on new signings, but insists their injury troubles will not force them into doing business this month.

Spurs have not signed a player since the arrival of Lucas Moura 12 months ago, and key players – including Harry Kane and Dele Alli – are currently unavailable due to injury.

Pochettino, however, insists Spurs will only enter the market for players that will improve their squad, and says he has enough talent in reserve to ease their injury woes.

He said: “I always say I am more than open to add players to the squad. That is so clear. A different thing is if we can find the right player that is going to help us improve.

We are working on a few options. We will see if we are able to deliver. We have one space now Mousa Dembele has gone.

There’s two different things. One thing is to try to improve our squad with the right profile. Another thing is if you have some problems with players who are injured, and you try to replace them.

We are going to sign if we identify the player that can improve us. We are not going to sign because we have some injuries. We have enough players to cover injuries.

Of course, if you win, OK. But if you don’t win, maybe you need a different way to operate.”

Tottenham face Crystal Palace on Sunday, just three days after their Carabao Cup hopes were ended in the semi-finals by bitter rivals Chelsea.

Spurs went out of the tournament following a penalty shootout – in which Eric Dier and Lucas Moura missed – and Pochettino conceded morale was low among his players.

He said: “It’s not great, the mood. It’s difficult to sleep after the games. When you win it’s difficult – when you lose, it’s worse.

Today is a little bit of a sad, difficult day, because we are all tired. But that is normal.

For sure, we are going to be in a good position to compete on Sunday. The competition doesn’t stop, and we need to be ready.”

  • Chelsea beat Tottenham on penalty to reach Carabao Cup final

Chelsea beat Tottenham on penalty to reach Carabao Cup final

Chelsea won a penalty shootout on a night of high drama at Stamford Bridge, overcoming Tottenham to secure a Carabao Cup final meeting with Manchester City.

After an enthralling 90 minutes which saw the tie end 2-2 on aggregate, the tie was settled when David Luiz scored the winning kick after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s fine save from Lucas Moura.

Chelsea, who have now reached 15 finals in 16 years in all competitions, will face Pep Guardiola’s City at Wembley on 24 February.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, who said after losing to Arsenal at the weekend that his players are “extremely difficult to motivate”, celebrated with his team at the end.

Trailing 1-0 from the semi-final first leg at Wembley, Chelsea were level on aggregate when the unmarked N’Golo Kante drilled in a first-time shot from 20 yards through three pairs of legs after a corner.

Eden Hazard, who Blues boss Sarri said on the eve of the tie “has to do more”, fired Chelsea into a 2-1 aggregate lead with an arrowed finish after being picked out by captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Tottenham were without injured duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli as well as Son Heung-min, who is away with South Korea at the Asian Cup, BBC reports.

They failed to produce a shot on target in the first half but forced penalties when Fernando Llorente converted Danny Rose’s cross.

On Saturday, Sarri was critical of his players after a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal left his side 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with 15 games to go.

The Italian can now look forward to a Wembley final in his first season in charge after his team responded with a much improved performance to overturn Tottenham’s lead.

It was apt that Hazard should score such a vital goal.

On the eve of this game, Sarri said the Belgium forward “has to do more” adding: “I prefer him when he speaks with his feet.”

Hazard responded by starting and finishing a slick move which made it 2-0 and put Chelsea ahead in the tie for the first time.

Earlier, Kante had given the hosts the perfect start with a lovely finish as Tottenham found themselves on the back foot before responding with a much better second half display to send the tie to penalties.

Chelsea scored all four of their spot kicks – Willian, Azpilicueta, Jorginho and Luiz all keeping their composure.

In contrast, Tottenham missed two of their four kicks – Eric Dier, a World Cup penalty shootout hero for England in Russia, firing over the bar before Moura was denied by Arrizabalaga.

  • EPL: Winks earns Tottenham injury-time win at Fulham

EPL: Winks earns Tottenham injury-time win at Fulham

Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri said his side are “alive and will continue to fight” despite losing to Tottenham through Harry Winks’ injury-time header at Craven Cottage.

Spurs, who had already lost Dele Alli to a hamstring injury, looked set to concede further ground on league leaders Liverpool but Winks stooped low in the 93rd minute to head past Sergio Rico from close range.

“It was a bad moment for us,” said Ranieri, whose side are 19th and seven points from safety.

“The performance was fantastic, but we lost the match through experience, that’s it. At the end we took a free-kick into the box. Why? We should have taken the ball into the corner.

“We played well and sooner or later we will find our way. We have to continue to believe. Now we have to stay together and I hope other players arrive to help us.”

Winks’ last-gasp winner means third-placed Spurs have a seven-point cushion over Arsenal in fifth in the battle for Champions League places.

“Sometimes in football, it is not tactics or formation – you have to believe,” said manager Mauricio Pochettino.

“It was an unbelievable finish. That’s why it is so important to believe.”

Fulham had nine shots on goal in an impressive first half and took a deserved lead when Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente scored an own goal.

The Spaniard, making his first Premier League start of the season in place of the injured Harry Kane, inadvertently beat Hugo Lloris from close range while attempting to clear the danger inside his own six-yard box after a Jean Michael Seri corner.

The hosts thought they had doubled their lead five minutes before the interval but Aleksandar Mitrovic’s header was ruled out as the Serbian was adjudged to be offside.

However, Spurs responded in the second period and they drew level six minutes after the interval when Dele Alli ghosted in behind the Fulham defence to head a pin-point Christian Eriksen cross past Rico.

And Winks completed the turnaround in stoppage time when he met substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou’s cross to break Fulham’s resistance.

Transfer news: Tottenham agree deal to sell midfielder to Chinese side

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sell midfielder Mousa Dembele to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.

He had flown to China to join Beijing Guoan but complications with the deal saw Guangzhou move for the Belgium international.

  • EPL: Tottenham defender Serge Aurier arrested

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier was arrested on suspicion of assault after police were called to his home in Hertfordshire on Saturday.

The Ivorian was taken into custody by police before being released without charge and missed Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.

Hertfordshire Police say a 26-year-old man from Brookmans Park was arrested on suspicion of Actual Bodily Harm and has been released with no further action.

A spokesman for Tottenham said: “We are aware of an incident concerning Serge Aurier this weekend.”

Aurier has scored four goals in 36 appearances for Spurs since joining from Pars Saint-Germain for £23m in August 2017.

  • Transfer news: Tottenham’s Dembele to complete £11m China move

Transfer news: Tottenham’s Dembele to complete £11m China move

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele has flown to China to complete his £11m move to Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan.

The 31-year-old Belgium international, who joined from Fulham in 2012, is out of contract in the summer.

He has made 249 appearances for Spurs, but featured just 13 times this season.

A large pay rise and playing in a less physical league are believed to be behind his decision, while Tottenham are trying to trim the squad.

Meanwhile, it is understood Tottenham medical staff will wait for the swelling around Harry Kane’s ankle to go down before they get an accurate assessment on the extent of the injury he suffered against Manchester United on Sunday.

Kane was caught in a challenge with Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot in the last minute of the 1-0 defeat.

Pochettino called it ‘a bad tackle’, although he admitted it was unintentional.

  • Super Sunday: De Gea shines as Man Utd defeat Tottenham at Wembley

Super Sunday: De Gea shines as Man Utd defeat Tottenham at Wembley

Manchester United maintained their 100 per cent record under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer with an impressive 1-0 success over Tottenham at Wembley.

Marcus Rashford struck the only goal of an entertaining contest with a low drive into the far corner after the impressive Paul Pogba had sent him free with a sublime through pass on the stroke of half time.

The result sees Solskjaer become the first ever Red Devils boss to win his opening six matches in all competitions. It also moves sixth-placed United level with Arsenal and within six points of Chelsea in fourth.

Spurs failed to test David De Gea at all in the first half, but it was a completely different story after the break as the inspired Spanish stopper produced a series of magnificent saves to somehow keep Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Co at bay.

The hosts will feel their overall display merited at least a draw but they were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy and the sloppy error from Kieran Trippier that led to United’s goal. Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain third and nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Next weekend, United will hoping its seventh heaven when they host Brighton while Spurs will aim to bounce back at Fulham.
