Tottenham remain unbeaten, move top of EPL

Ten-man Tottenham Hotspur maintained their unbeaten record as a narrow win at Luton took them top of the Premier League.

After going down to 10 men when Yves Bissouma was sent off just before half-time, Spurs’ winner came from Micky van de Ven, who poked home his first goal for the club on 52 minutes after James Maddison cut the ball back from a short corner.

Dutch defender Van de Ven said it was an “amazing feeling” to score the match-winning goal.

“On the way to the stadium on the bus Sonny [Son Heung-min] told me: ‘You’re going to score your first goal today’,” he said on TNT Sports.

“I didn’t think so. I said: ‘Maybe, who knows.’ But it is perfect because now I have scored my first goal.

“I think we showed a great mentality as a team.”

Luton had captain Tom Lockyer’s low header chalked off when Elijah Adebayo was deemed to have fouled Cristian Romero as he headed Mads Andersen’s free-kick across goal.

A more positive approach in the second half led to them creating plenty of opportunities but Tottenham held on to leave Rob Edwards’ side without a win at home this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are now unbeaten in eight Premier League games and sit two points ahead of Manchester City, who face Arsenal on Sunday.

Tottenhan vs Liverpool: PGMOL punishes VAR officials who disallowed Diaz’s goal

The two Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials in charge of Tottenham versus Liverpool game  who were responsible for incorrectly ruling Luiz Daiz goal as offside  have been removed from the remaining fixtures this weekend.

PGMOL, has already admitted that Díaz had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside after the VAR, Darren England, and assistant VAR, Dan Cook, wrongly thought the goal had been given by the on-field officials.

In the 34th minute, Dial raced fast to catch up with Salah’s pass and cooly slotted the ball past goalie Vicario of Tottenham only for the assistant referee to rule it for offside. And when it was checked VAR also didn’t change the referee’s decision.

The VAR team wrongly thought the onfield decision was “goal”.

They quickly identified that Díaz was onside and told the onfield team “check complete” to confirm the goal.

But when referee Simon Hooper was told this, he understood the decision made by his assistant on the field as being correct – which the assistant had given as offside.

That meant that rather than the decision being changed to goal, it remained disallowed.

England was scheduled to be the fourth official for Nottingham Forest vs Brentford on Sunday, and has been replaced by Craig Pawson. Cook was due to be the assistant for Monday’s game between Fulham and Chelsea but he too has been stood down and replaced by Eddie Smart.

EPL: Tottenham Hotspurs beat 9- man Liverpool 2-1

Tottenham Hotspurs defeated 9-man Liverpool by 2-1 at the Tottenham stadium.

In the 36th minute, Heug Min Son lashed on to a pass  from Richarlison to put the Lily whites a goal up in the thrilling encounter.

Few minutes later, Curtis Jones was giving the marching order for stepping stepping on  Udogie in the 26th minute of the encounter.

Liverpool equalized through Cody Gakpo in the dying minute of the encounter but cropped a muscle pull injury that stopped him from celebrating his goal.

Gakpo was soon substituted with Diogo Jota who also received a red card for his tackle on a Tottenham player.

Liverpool almost ended the game on a drawing note but a last gasp own goal by Joel Matip ensured the Reds left the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium without any point.

The result meant Tottenham have climbed to the second position and are behind Manchester City who also lost to wolves today with just a point.

North London derby: Arsenal and Tottenham play out thrilling draw

Tottenham came from behind twice to secure a hard-earned point in the north London derby against Arsenal in a thriller at Emirates Stadium.

In a relentless encounter, Arsenal took the lead after 26 minutes when Bukayo Saka’s shot was deflected into his own goal by Spurs defender Cristian Romero.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had made the big decision by keeping David Raya in of goal ahead of Aaron Ramsdale and he justified that faith with two fine saves from Brennan Johson as Spurs went in pursuit of an equaliser.

Raya should have done better, however, when Spurs levelled three minutes before half-time. He could only claw away a cross allowing an attack to continue, ending with James Maddison crossing for Son Heung-min to equalise with a deft finish.

Arsenal restored their lead after 54 minutes when Romero was penalised for handball following the intervention of the Video Assistant Referee, Saka scoring from the spot.

Spurs, illustrating their new positive approach under manager Ange Postecoglou in his first north London derby, were back on terms almost instantly when Jorginho, as a half-time substitute for the injured Declan Rice, lost possession to Maddison, who played in Son for another cool finish.

  • Don’t judge Tottenham on North London derby – Postecoglou

Don’t judge Tottenham on North London derby – Postecoglou

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou wants his players to stick to their system when facing Arsenal today.

Postecoglou has stated the performance in the derby will be more important than the result.

He said, “We’re five games in. I understand that for many people, they will see this as our first real test and I get that.

“It is pretty easy, you could almost write two stories now. If we are successful, great, we’re on the right track. If we’re not, we’ve still got a long way to go. For me, what is going to be more important is how much of our football I see in a big game like this. How much of us can I see against a top opponent?

“That will give me the biggest indicator of where we’re at but, ultimately, we’ll still be six games into a new cycle, a new group of players, a very young group of players. Either way, irrespective of the outcome, I’d say the performance will be my biggest measure, but knowing we still have a long way to go.”

EPL: Arteta heaps praises on Tottenham manager, Postecoglou ahead North London derby on Sunday

Ahead of the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal on Sunday, Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta has heaped praises on Ange Postecoglou for his impack at Tottenham Hotspurs.

Postecoglou’s free-scoring Spurs have netted 13 times in five Premier League matches to make an unbeaten start to the top-flight campaign.

According to Arteta, he is a fan of the Australian who has positively changed the atmosphere at Spurs in spite of the summer departure of star striker Harry Kane.

“They have a new challenge, a new opportunity, they have a new manager who is doing really well and he’s managed to change the vibe around the club.

“I really like him. I have players who had him before and they always speak really highly of him, which is not a coincidence because straight away he’s fitting in the right way.

“They have many qualities (in spite of Kane’s departure) so it’s a big change but they have adapted well to it,”he said.

Goalkeeper David Raya has started ahead of Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal’s last two games, against Everton and then PSV in the Champions League.

Arteta insisted he understands Ramsdale’s frustration of not starting and highlighted the competition for places which forced a change at number one.

“He’s been very supportive and good around the place and that’s what I expect from every single player, because when you’re on the field there is someone else who’s not so it works both ways,“he said.

Arteta lauded Captain Martin Odegaard after the midfielder signed a new long-term deal at the Emirates.

He said: “He’s got a really good balance (as a captain) and you notice him around the building because he always does the right things, he’s funny and likeable, committed and I’m really happy to have him as a captain.”

  • Why I chose Tottenham over Fergie’s Man Utd – Bale

Why I chose Tottenham over Fergie’s Man Utd – Bale

Former Wales star Gareth Bale has outlined his reasons for rejecting Manchester United.

The 34-year-old, who retired from the sport earlier than many fans anticipated, won five Champions League titles with Real Madrid.

However, his career may have turned out differently if he had joined United when Sir Alex Ferguson was still manager.

Of the time he rejected United when at Southampton in 2007, Bale said, per The Sun: “I rejected Manchester United and went to Tottenham.

“At that time, United were the biggest team in the league, they were winning trophies, they had the biggest players, the best manager,

“The easiest decision would be to go to Man United and the biggest club.

“You always want to be at the biggest clubs but I took the approach that I wanted to be playing first-team football.”

  • I’m in Bayern to push my limits – Harry Kane

I’m in Bayern to push my limits – Harry Kane

England international, Harry Kane is delighted to now be a Bayern Munich player.

The former Tottenham star signed for Bayern yesterday morning before making his debut in their German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig.

At his media presentation today, Kane said: “I’ve always wanted to push my limits and improve, and see how far that can take me. Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives me that opportunity.

“It was a busy couple of days, a busy week. This is my first transfer; it was an up and down experience for sure but I’m happy to be here now. I wish Tottenham all the best, Daniel Levy all the best, but my focus is here now and trying to help this team.

“I spent my whole career in England and the Premier League so it may take a bit of adapting to get used to a new league. I’m playing against different teams. As you saw yesterday with Leipzig, there are some great teams in this league and it is going to be a real challenge. I know people expect Bayern to win the league every year, but I think teams are improving and it is getting tougher.

“For me it is about settling in, getting as comfortable as possible and understanding the different teams and how I need to adapt.”

He added, “For me it is about trying to help the team as much as possible. Being a goalscorer, people are expecting me to do that.

“I’ve only been here two days. I’m still getting to know the players but one of the reasons I joined is because we have amazing talent. If I get a good connection, I’ll score goals.”
