Bayern reps in London to seal Harry Kane deal

Bayern Munich representatives jetted into London to try to sign Harry Kane this week.

The Tottenham striker is the number one target for the Bavarian club to solve their goal scoring issue.

While Kane is open to the move, Spurs are demanding a minimum fee of £100 million for his signature.

Per The Sun, Bayern reps are in England to find out if a deal can be done with Spurs.

Kane only has a year left on his contract, but Spurs believe he will eventually extend if he stays beyond this summer.

New boss Ange Postecoglou believes he can get Kane to buy into his philosophy.

EPL: Brentford stun Tottenham in away win

A superb double from Bryan Mbeumo helped Brentford come from behind to win and spoil Tottenham’s final home game of a miserable season.

Mbeumo struck two fine efforts into the far corner early in the second half, before team-mate Yoane Wissa capped things off, as Brentford overturned Tottenham’s first-half lead which had come via captain Harry Kane.

Just days after strike partner Ivan Toney was banned for eight months for breaking Football Association betting rules, Mbeumo showed Brentford fans they can count on him to deliver the goals.

It had been a moment of magic from Kane, whose future at Spurs remains in question, when he curled the ball beautifully into the top corner from a free-kick.

It galvanised his team-mates and they played with confidence and flair, creating numerous chances which they should have put away.

Their lack of ruthlessness was punished though as Brentford responded immediately in the second half – Mbeumo taking his chances, firing past goalkeeper Fraser Forster twice in 12 minutes.

Any chance of a late equaliser by Tottenham evaporated when substitute Shandon Baptise robbed Oliver Skipp of possession and Mbeumo teed up Wissa for a comfortable finish.

It was another performance which summed up Tottenham’s season – moments of promise before a crushing result.

Their extremely slim hope of European qualification is fading rapidly, while Brentford know they will finish a successful season inside the Premier League’s top 10.

  • Liverpool beat Tottenham in seven-goal thriller

Liverpool beat Tottenham in seven-goal thriller

Diogo Jota’s injury-time winner gave Liverpool a dramatic victory at Anfield after Tottenham looked on course to salvage a point despite going three goals behind inside 15 minutes.

Spurs were 5-0 down after 20 minutes at Newcastle United and swiftly found themselves three goals adrift at Anfield as Liverpool delivered an opening salvo that left them chasing what looked like a lost cause.

Instead, when former Everton striker Richarlison headed his first Premier League goal of the season in stoppage time, Spurs were on the brink of rescuing an unlikely draw – until Jota capitalised on a defensive mix-up seconds later to win the game for Liverpool.

Curtis Jones opened the scoring in the third minute from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross before Luis Diaz, making his first start since suffering a knee injury in October that required surgery, turned in Mohamad Salah’s delivery at the near post two minutes later.

Salah made amends for missing penalties against Bournemouth and Arsenal by adding the third from the spot following Romero’s reckless challenge on Cody Gakpo.

With Spurs fans, who were given a refund after the 6-1 debacle on Tyneside, demanding their money back once more, they staged a fightback and showed real character, Harry Kane volleying home six minutes before the interval.

Spurs actually had chances to give Liverpool even more anxious moments but both Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero hit the post within seconds in the second half.

But Son then raced clear to beat Alisson, giving Spurs renewed hope with 13 minutes left.

Richarlison sent the visiting fans wild with a header, before Jota had the last word.

Liverpool move up to fifth to retain slim hopes of Champions League football but earlier victories for Manchester United and Newcastle United make this an increasingly long shot.

  • Stellini sacked as Tottenham’s acting head coach, Mason takes over

Stellini sacked as Tottenham’s acting head coach, Mason takes over

Tottenham have sacked acting head coach Cristian Stellini after less than a month in charge as club chairman Daniel Levy labelled Sunday’s thrashing at Newcastle United “wholly unacceptable”.

The 48-year-old was part of Antonio Conte’s backroom staff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He stepped into the top job on a temporary basis when his fellow Italian was sacked last month.

Stellini lasted just four games, however, with Ryan Mason once again appointed his successor on a temporary basis after a 1-6 loss at Newcastle United ended Stellini’s short reign.

Spurs are now outsiders in the race for a UEFA Champions League place.

They sit six points adrift of Manchester United, who they host on Thursday night, having played two more games.

Stellini, in his first managerial role, had overseen just one win in his four games in charge — a 2-1 victory over Brighton.

Spurs could only manage a draw away to relegation-threatened Everton and were beaten by a late Bournemouth goal last weekend before Sunday’s humiliation at St James’ Park.

The Magpies ran riot, racing into a five-goal lead inside 21 minutes, with Levy acting on Monday evening to remove Stellini from his post.

“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle United was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see,” he said in a statement.

“We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff.

“Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time.

“We wish him and his staff well.

“Ryan Mason will take over head coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.

“I met with the Players Committee today —– the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season.

“We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support.”

Mason, 31, previously took over when Jose Mourinho was sacked in 2021, winning four of his seven games at the helm.

This included a 1-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

He became the youngest manager in Premier League history and has once again been tasked with steadying the ship as Spurs try to salvage something from their season.

EPL: Newcastle trounce Tottenham 6-1 to go 3rd on the log

Newcastle United on Sunday bounced back from a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Aston Villa last week to maul Tottenham Hotspurs 6-1 in a thrilling English Premier League encounter.

Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, scored two goals apiece as Eddie Howe’s side rose to third in the Premier League, six points and two places ahead of Tottenham who still remain on same spot prior to the match.

The £60million Sweden international scored twice in an astonishing first-half blitz which saw Eddie Howe’s men race into a 5-0 lead with just 21 minutes played to take his tally for an injury-interrupted season to 10.

Newcastle humiliate Tottenham to close on top-four spot

Newcastle United humiliated Tottenham Hotspur with five goals in 21 stunning first-half minutes as they ran out easy winners in what was billed as a showdown for a top-four spot.

Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak each scored twice and Joelinton added another as Newcastle scythed through a porous visiting defence that was already under the spotlight from last week’s defeat against Bournemouth.

Harry Kane pulled one back in the second half at St James’ Park but Callum Wilson added a sixth shortly after coming off the bench to complete the rout.

The embarrassing defeat is a significant blow to Spurs’ dwindling hopes of securing Champions League qualification while the Magpies are now in a commanding position to finish in the top four as they climb to third.

Roared on by an electric atmosphere, Newcastle started with pace and ferocity, taking just 62 seconds to open the scoring.

Joelinton drove inside from the edge of the box and his low shot was parried weakly by Hugo Lloris into the path of Murphy, who was there to smash in the loose ball.

Five minutes later, Brazilian midfielder Joelinton sprung a negligible Spurs offside trap and rounded Lloris to double the lead.

With the home fans still celebrating, Murphy rattled in the third with a curling shot from distance that Lloris did not make any attempt to reach.

Sweden striker Isak, averaging a goal every 113 minutes in the Premier League this season prior to the game, then scored twice to compound Spurs’ misery.

First, he met a sumptuous ball from Joe Willock to slot home calmly, then beat hapless Lloris from a tight angle.

Kane barged past Fabian Schar and finished neatly to pull one back minutes into the second half but Newcastle responded when Wilson, who had replaced Isak, immediately poked home another from substitute Miguel Almiron’s pass.

  • EPL: Chelsea, Tottenham lose home games, Palace win 3rd straight match

EPL: Chelsea, Tottenham lose home games, Palace win 3rd straight match

Chelsea football club went down 1-2 to Brighton at Stamford Bridge in a very thrilling English Premier League encounter.

It’s a third defeat in a row for Frank Lampard, whose side couldn’t hold onto the lead after Conor Gallagher’s opener.

Julio Enciso scores a stunning goal from 30 yards to put the high-flying Seagulls deservedly in front at Stamford Bridge after Danny Welbeck’s equaliser.

The result meant Chelsea will remain on the 11th position on the log with no hopes of continental football next season.

Meanwhile at the London stadium, it was Dango Ouattara who netted  a dramatic winner for Bournemouth just minutes after Arnaut Danjuma equalized for Tottenham in their delayed clash.

Similarly, Southampton’s Premier League status is hanging in the balance after they were treated to a tenth home defeat of the season by Crystal Palace.

Roy Hodgson made it three wins from three on his Crystal Palace return.

Eberechi Eze scored both goals early in the second half to all but guarantee Palace’s survival and all but condemn Saints to the Championship.

  • Brighton get apology after refereeing body admits penalty kick error

Brighton get apology after refereeing body admits penalty kick error

Brighton & Hove Albion have received an apology from England’s refereeing body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

The apology came after the refereeing governing body admitted Kaoru Mitoma should have been awarded a penalty kick during Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Seagulls endured a frustrating afternoon with manager Roberto De Zerbi sent off, alongside Spurs’ acting head coach Cristian Stellini for an incident between the two benches in the 58th minute.

The visitors also had two goals disallowed for handball.

One of their biggest grievances occurred with 20 minutes left when Mitoma had his foot trod on by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg inside the penalty area.

But referee Stuart Attwell waved away appeals and VAR never called for the incident to be reviewed with the score 1-1.

PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb has since made contact with Brighton.

Webb is understood to have apologised and acknowledged it was a mistake by the officials not to award a penalty kick for the challenge by Hojbjerg on Mitoma.

It is the latest show of greater transparency from Webb and a further example of his efforts to engage in open communications with clubs since he started his role at the PGMOL.

De Zerbi did not want to be drawn into criticising the officials after the match but did admit: “When I was in the dressing room, there was a clear penalty kick for Mitoma.

“You can’t find one situation from my bench where I spoke to the referee to complain some decisions.

“I think I could say something because nothing for the penalty kick for Mitoma, nothing for the goal for (Danny) Welbeck and I am sorry for this.”

  • It’s time for Kane to leave Tottenham – Gerrard

It’s time for Kane to leave Tottenham – Gerrard

Former England international Steven Gerrard can see Harry Kane leaving Tottenham this summer.

Gerrard is in Naples for the start of England’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign against Italy as Kane became the Three Lions’ all-time leading scorer with his 54 goals.

Kane came close to leaving Tottenham in the summer of 2021 for Manchester City, but their reported offer of around £100 million was not enough to satisfy Daniel Levy.

The England captain is once again being linked with a move away from North London as time runs out for him to start winning trophies.

Gerrard said on Channel 4 at half-time after Kane converted his penalty: “It’s an incredible penalty, it’s precise, takes the side-netting off. He’s one of the best penalty-takers in the world, that’s why it was such a surprise what happened to him in the World Cup.

“You’re talking about greatness, you’re talking about one of the best number nines in the world right now and that’s the reason why every transfer window he’s ahead in terms of all the talks because, you know, maybe it is time, maybe it is time for him to move on.”

  • Son back to scoring form as Spurs beat West Ham

Son back to scoring form as Spurs beat West Ham

Son Heung-min returned to scoring form to help Tottenham claim a 2-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, propelling them into the English Premier League’s top four.

With Antonio Conte back in Italy recovering from emergency gallbladder surgery earlier this month, stand-in head coach Cristian Stellini was again charged with leading Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Stellini made it two wins from two games in temporary charge as substitute Son sealed the points with his first league goal since Jan. 4.

This was after Emerson nosed Spurs ahead in the 56th minute.

West Ham’s defeat leaves them in the bottom three.

Spurs, who lost heavily to Leicester City last week and then went down to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League, leapfrogged Newcastle United into fourth place.

There were warning signs for Spurs when Jarrod Bowen blasted wide in the opening minute, though a refereeing decision was the main talking point from a sluggish first half.

Eight days on from Tomas Soucek getting away with a similar incident against Chelsea, team-mate Thilo Kehrer was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty kick.

This was when Richarlison’s pass struck his outstretched arm.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Richarlison were denied by Lukasz Fabianski before Cristian Romero headed over, with Spurs keeping up the pressure after the restart when Harry Kane went close.

That pressure told before the hour —- Emerson coolly slotting into the bottom left corner after combining with fellow wing-back Ben Davies.

Bowen almost found an immediate response for West Ham but Fraser Forster was equal to his snapshot.

And West Ham’s hopes of a comeback were all but dashed when Son, who had lost his place in the starting team to Richarlison, finished calmly after linking up with Kane.
