I can teach people how not to concede 6 goals – Conte mocks Ten Hag

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte defended his tactics after Saturday’s defeat at Arsenal.

Stung by criticism of Tottenham’s supine defeat over the garden fence in north London, Conte levelled an indirect dig at Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag shipping six in their own derby with a reminder his teams have never been so porous.

Conte declared at his Champions League presser: “If we were able to exploit the situation, especially last passes, we would have been able to score many goals against Arsenal. Instead we made really bad mistakes for the last passes because we had the opportunity to go one-to-one, but every team has to think and understand the way to play different games.

“Last season we won 3-0 (against Arsenal) and, when you win, the opponent has to explain, but for me it’s important to have a plan, to put my players in the best possible situation to exploit their characteristics.

“Otherwise it can happen that you can concede six, seven or eight goals – in England that happens a lot of times. In my career never, never happened because I don’t like to play open, concede a lot of space and concede six, seven or eight goals. I won in England, I won in my past and I think I can teach football to many people.”

EPL: Arsenal beat 10-man Tottenham to stay top

Arsenal maintained their position at the Premier League summit as an outstanding display overpowered Tottenham in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side were superior throughout and Spurs’ cause was not helped by Emerson Royal’s red card for a second-half foul on Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal made a fast start and took a deserved lead when Thomas Partey side-footed a precise finish into the top corner from 25 yards after 20 minutes.

Spurs were handed a lifeline before the break when Gabriel’s foul on Richarlison gave Harry Kane the opportunity to score his 14th goal in 18 derby games and his 100th goal away from home in the Premier League from the penalty spot.

Arsenal were gifted the lead once again when Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris fumbled badly to allow Gabriel Jesus to score four minutes after the break, Antonio Conte’s frustration made worse by Royal’s reckless challenge on Martinelli that prompted referee Anthony Taylor to produce a straight red card.

Conte was attempting to make three changes when Granit Xhaka effectively ended the contest with a low finish past Lloris from inside the area.

  • Two Premier League clubs wanted me – Richarlison

Two Premier League clubs wanted me – Richarlison

Richarlison admits choosing Tottenham over Chelsea and Arsenal when leaving Everton this summer.

Things could have turned out differently for Richarlison, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea eyeing a move during the window.

With that interest though, he has since spoken about what influenced his move in an interview with ourFourTwo, saying: “I was on holiday in Brazil when I heard that Tottenham had made Everton an offer.

“I was happy, because they are a huge team. Then it was all about the clubs negotiating a deal, and fortunately everything went well. Antonio Conte called me during the negotiations and expressed how much he’d like to have me on board – that was vital for my decision.”

When asked about the interest from London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, he added: “I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal also contacted Everton to ask about my situation, but Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know? It’s as simple as that.

“Everton had to sell some players to avoid a Financial Fair Play problem, and the negotiations were very brief, to be honest. I signed the contract during my holiday in the Pantanal [a remote region of Brazil].”

Conte reveals Tottenham player that can marry his daughter

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has disclosed that Heung-min Son is the kind of man he could allow to marry his daughter.

Son, who was below his best in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, was furious after he was substituted in the second half.

The South Korean has not been at his best this season and is a shadow of the player that claimed the Premier League Golden Boot last season.

But Conte has no doubts about the South Korean’s talent or his personality and will continue to back him.

“I understand Sonny is a really sensible player,” Conte told reporters.

“He’s really sensible and a top man, a really good guy. If I am to make an example, if I have to find a husband for my daughter I’d like it to be a person like him.

“In this moment maybe he’s suffering a lot that he’s not scoring…We trust him and the team-mates.

“For me, Sonny will always be a nut in my team, in my ambition of football.”

EPL: Kane hits 250th goal to take Tottenham top

Harry Kane scored his 250th goal for Tottenham as they moved top of the Premier League with a hard-fought win over Wolves.

The England forward reacted sharply to head in Ivan Perisic’s flick on from a corner to give Spurs their reward for their second-half dominance.

Kane’s effort also saw the hosts become the fifth team to score 1,000 goals at home since the Premier League was formed in 1992.

The goal had been coming with both the 29-year-old and his strike partner Son Heung-min hitting the woodwork as Spurs poured forward to break the deadlock.

The intensity of their football was in complete contrast to the first period, when a Wolves team containing seven Portuguese players – the joint-most from a single foreign nation in a starting XI in the competition – were in the ascendancy.

Bruno Lage’s side restricted the hosts to just one 45th-minute effort and were unfortunate to see record signing Matheus Nunes nod Ruben Neves’ probing pass inches wide of the Spurs goal.

  • Richarlison has made Tottenham nasty – Conte

Richarlison has made Tottenham nasty – Conte

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says Richarlison has transformed the team’s approach.

His ability to get under opponents’ skin was seen as an attractive quality to Conte, who wanted to make his team more streetwise this season.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s hosting of Wolves, Conte said: “For sure Richy is a player that made us focused, nasty. He’s a player I like.

“He’s always into the training session with his mind. For us I think this is a good sign.

“We are working also on the tactical aspect because the season will be long and there are many games that we have to play also with four strikers.

“In the end at Chelsea, we played with Lucas Moura as wing-back, (Ivan) Perisic – we are talking about in the past a striker -, Richarlison, Kulusevski, Sonny (and Kane).

“But to do this, it’s important to have organisation in the tactical aspect.”

  • Tuchel, Conte sent off as Chelsea play draw against Tottenham

Tuchel, Conte sent off as Chelsea play draw against Tottenham

Harry Kane’s equaliser six minutes into stoppage time earned Tottenham a dramatic draw as a fiery London derby at Stamford Bridge ended in an angry confrontation between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte that resulted in red cards for both managers.

Tempers were running high throughout as Chelsea twice led before Kane’s glancing header seconds from the end gave Spurs a point.

Chelsea dominated the first half and fully deserved the 19th minute lead they earned when their two summer signings combined, Kalidou Koulibaly flashing home a powerful volley from Marc Cucurella’s corner.

Spurs struggled to make any sort of impression, Kane missing their best opportunity, but drew level after 68 minutes when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s shot beat Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea were furious that referee Anthony Taylor had failed to penalise Rodrigo Bentancur for a challenge on Kai Havertz, the ensuing melee leading to face-to-face fury between the two managers which ended with both Chelsea boss Tuchel and Spurs counterpart Conte receiving yellow cards.

Once order had been restored, Chelsea were back in front as James scored from Raheem Sterling’s pass, the fired up Tuchel celebrating by sprinting past Conte along the touch in elation.

Chelsea thought they had made it six points from two games until Kane headed in Ivan Perisic’s corner – the antipathy not ending there as a handshake between Tuchel and Conte developed into another bust-up between the pair which ended with them both getting their marching orders.

EPL: Chelsea versus Tottenham clash will be an acid test – Antonio Conte

The coach of Tottenham Hotspur,  Antonio Conte has revealed that Sunday’s encounter with Chelsea will be a great test for his team.

Recall that Chelsea made Tottenham kiss the canvass four times when they met last season, two in the League Cup semi-final followed by one in the league, in January when Conte was still relatively new at Tottenham.

There has a been a measure of stability and consistency with the London club as their fine form towards the end of last season earned them a fourth place finish in the English Premier League and a slot in the UEFA Champions League.

But they make the journey from north to west London this weekend knowing they have won just once at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League era.

“The story is this but we want to try,” former Chelsea manager Conte said Friday. “When I arrived in Tottenham, I say we want to try to write a good story for this club.

“I know very well it will be more difficult than other clubs for many reasons but I think we have started to go in the right path.

“This game will be important to make the right evaluation about our improvement.

“You can win the game and be lucky or lose the game and be unlucky so we have to make the right evaluation after the game with the performance, with the way we played and to feel our improvement.”

Meanwhile, tottenham  will be without Clement Lenglet and Oliver Skipp this weekend but Richarlison will return after suspension and be available to make his debut.

Temperatures could hit 35 degrees Celsius in London on Sunday with drinks breaks agreed for all 10 Premier League games this weekend.

“The weather is the same for them and for us,” added Conte.

“In Italy we have 40 or 42 degrees, especially where I was born in Lecce we sometimes touch 45 and we are used to this temperature, but I understand for London it is unusual.”

Tottenham presently leads the premier league table after defeating Southampton by 4-1 in their first match of the 2022/2023 season.
