  • I wanted Premier League move since 2009 – Perisic

Ivan Perisic is happy to have finally sealed his move to Premier League side, Tottenham.

Perisic joins Spurs from Inter Milan in a Bosman deal, signing a two-year contract in the process.

He said: “From the first time I was in contact with the coach and sporting director I told them that I really wanted to come here.

“Ever since 2009, when I started playing professional football in Belgium, I was so close a few times to coming to the Premier League and, at last, this is the moment. I can’t wait.

“I’m going to bring, first of all, a lot of hard work. I like to work a lot, I like to work for the team because only like this you can win something important. I can play several positions in the system Tottenham is playing now. I will bring a lot of experience as well, I’ve played for a lot of great clubs and, like I said, I can’t wait to start to play, to train and give my best.”

Perisic’s arrival at Spurs brings him back together with manager Antonio Conte – he featured 42 times, including 32 of 38 Serie A matches, as Conte guided Inter to their first Scudetto since 2009/10 in 2020/21.

“It’s a privilege to work again with a coach like this,” said Perisic. “We did well at Inter, won the league after 10 or 11 years, it was a perfect year. I’m really happy to see him again. I think we’re going to do some good things here in England.

“He’s living football, every minute, every hour, every day, even when he’s sleeping, he’s thinking about football! He’s so passionate. He wants to win. I like his character and I know we’re going to do a great job here.

“Like I said, I can’t wait to start, to train, to play in this amazing stadium, I think we will have a great time and we can do a great job here.”

EPL: Arsenal miss out as Tottenham qualify for Champions League

Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification for a sixth successive season despite a comfortable win over Everton on the final day.

The Gunners needed to defeat Frank Lampard’s side and hope Tottenham would lose at already relegated Norwich, but with Spurs winning 5-0 at Carrow Road theirs was a forlorn task.

Spurs needed just a draw to seal a top-four finish, but ensured victory in stress-free fashion after first-half goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane quickly dispelled any pre-match nerves among the travelling supporters.

Kulusevski added a third with a brilliant left-footed strike on 64 minutes before Son scored twice to give him a share of the Golden Boot, putting him level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah on 23 goals apiece.

Spurs finished two points clear of Arsenal, whose victory over Everton ultimately proved inconsequential for European qualification.

Tottenham’s return to the Champions League comes after a two-year absence, having participated in the Europa League and Europa Conference League in recent seasons.

Doping: Tottenham’s Chioma handed 9-month ban

Tottenham Women Football Club’s forward Chioma Ubogagu has been handed a nine-month ban following two anti-doping violations, the Football Association (FA) in England announced on Thursday in London.

The 29-year-old, who has three England caps, admitted the violations relating to the banned substance canrenone, which was detected in a urine sample last October.

The independent regulatory commission imposing the suspension —- running to October this year —- accepted Ubogagu had committed the violations unintentionally.

Tottenham said the banned substance was in medication Ubogagu had been prescribed in the U.S. to treat acne and had not known it was prohibited.

A statement from the FA on Thursday said: “An independent regulatory commission has suspended Tottenham Hotspur Women’s Chioma Ubogagu for nine months following two Anti-doping Rule Violations (ADRVs).

“The forward was charged with two ADRVs under the FA’s anti-doping regulations for the presence and use of canrenone, which is a banned substance, and had been detected within a urine sample collected during a squad test on Oct. 7 2021 by UK Anti-Doping.

“Ubogagu admitted the two ADRVs, which the commission accepted were committed unintentionally, and found that (she) had established that she committed them without significant fault or negligence on her part during a subsequent hearing.

“The commission imposed a nine-month period of ineligibility.”

Tottenham, who signed the former Arsenal and Real Madrid player last summer, said in a statement on their official website: “Chioma was prescribed two forms of medication in the U.S. from a personal doctor to treat acne before signing for the club.

“Both the club and Chioma fully cooperated with the FA and UKAD during the disciplinary process and Chioma has been unavailable for selection since the provisional suspension was imposed in January.

“Chioma takes full responsibility for the charge and deeply regrets her actions admitting a lack of knowledge and awareness on her part.”

Ubogagu said: “I am so sorry to my teammates and staff that I can’t be out on the pitch. The club has been fully supportive throughout this entire process and I am so appreciative of all their help.

“My faith, family, and close friends have helped me immensely in this difficult time. I am eager to be back soon now that this has been resolved.

“I want to make clear that the medication had no performance-enhancing effects for me, but I still made the mistake of not being as diligent as possible and as a result, I am unable to play the game I love until I serve my suspension.

“While my dermatologist is aware of my profession, it is also my responsibility to know more about the medications I am prescribed.

“I plan to share my story and educate others on the severity of what can happen and I hope I can help other athletes avoid situations like mine in the future.”

EPL: My transfer list is very, very big – Conte

Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte has revealed that he will be submitting a very big list to the club for the transfer window.

TheNewsGuru reports that Spurs have only 15 senior players fit until the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Liverpool, Conte was asked if he had provided the club a list of players he would like to sign this summer.

“No, no, no. We are totally focused on this season,” Conte replied.

“Also because we are finishing this season with only 15 players and at this moment it is not convenient to give them a list because at this moment it would be a very, very big list.

“It is not a good moment.”

  • ‘I don’t sleep well after a defeat’ – Guardiola reacts on Tottenham loss

‘I don’t sleep well after a defeat’ – Guardiola reacts on Tottenham loss

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists there’s no panic after their midweek defeat to Tottenham.

Guardiola saw his team’s lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just three points after last weekend’s late home defeat by Tottenham.

While Guardiola admitted the atmosphere at training was “sad” this week, he has attempted to become more level-headed around the players.

“As I get old, I’m learning to enjoy my profession,” he said. “I accept the defeats in a more natural way. I don’t like it, because I don’t sleep well after a defeat, but I accept that the other ones can beat you.

“I’m not so dramatic, like: ‘we are going to lose the Premier League’. What’s the problem? The problem is how you behave and how you are as a team.

“When we don’t do our best we will be in trouble, the guys will be in trouble with the manager. You have to improve, that there is still a margin to do better that we are still not doing.”

Guardiola has dismissed talk of his team being unbeatable.

“I appreciate all of your generosity for our team but we are not a team to win all the games over six years.

“It’s impossible. People believe we will make good runs, we are unbeatable and everything is easy – this kind of thing disturbs me a lot because everything is so difficult.

“We’ve trained well. A little bit more sad than usual but that’s normal. The players have the answer. I said many times to them I never win a game but I never lose either. Football belongs to them.

“I’m waiting for how we’re going to react. From what I’ve seen in the last years I know they’re going to perform well.”

  • Tottenham playing like we’re in relegation – Conte

Tottenham playing like we’re in relegation – Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte has said his team are playing like relegation strugglers.

The Italian stated this following a 1-0 loss at Burnley on Wednesday night.

Ben Mee headed in the only goal of the game in the 71st minute, as Spurs slumped to a fourth defeat in five Premier League games.

Conte’s men now sit in eighth place with 39 points from 24 games.

“In the last five games, we are playing like we are in relegation, this is the reality.

“I want to try to improve the situation and also to make an assessment with the club. If we continue in this way, maybe we have to pay great attention, because in this league, we can finish 10th, 12th, 13th — the same way when I arrived here, the same position,” Conte said after the game.

  • How I reacted to Man City defeat to Tottenham – Klopp

How I reacted to Man City defeat to Tottenham – Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed how he reacted to Manchester City 3-2 defeat to league rivals, Tottenham in the English Premier League on Sunday.

The German also said that the defeat suffered by Pep Guardiola’s side in the hands of Tottenham does not change anything, insisting that City could still win the league.

The result reduced Manchester City’s lead over Liverpool in the league table to just six points and with victory at home to Leeds on Wednesday, the title race would be seemingly very close.

The German gaffer was asked how he reacted to Spurs’ win at City, and he told reporters, “In truth, I was on the way home when it was 2-1 to Tottenham and then I arrived at home and didn’t follow it anymore because I was sure they would equalise anyway.

“Then we went out and the driver was very excited and told me that it was 2-2 and 3-2. When he said 3-2 I thought City had won 3-2 and he said, ‘No, Tottenham won 3-2′, and I said: ‘Oh!’

“That was my reaction. Nothing changed for us really, we have to win all our games.

“We expect that [Manchester City to win all their games].”

  • Kane nets winner as Tottenham edge Manchester City in five-goal thriller

Kane nets winner as Tottenham edge Manchester City in five-goal thriller

Harry Kane scored a last-minute winner as Tottenham Hotspur ended their dismal English Premier League form with a 3-2 away win over Manchester City in a pulsating encounter on Saturday.

Spurs’ Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring inside five minutes at the Etihad Stadium with his first goal for the club, but City’s Ilkay Gundogan struck back in the 33rd minute to level the scores.

Spurs re-took the lead through Kane ahead of the hour mark when he guided a whipped cross from Son Heung-min into the far top corner.

The England striker looked to have added another minutes later but the attempt was ruled out for offside.

City pressed to find another equaliser and looked to have done so when Cristian Romero made a handball in the box, granting City a stoppage-time penalty.

Riyad Mahrez stepped up and converted from the spot, but Spurs took the lead for the third time moments later as Kane scored to secure all three points.

Spurs had lost their previous three matches in the Premier League before Saturday’s narrow victory over leaders City, who are six points ahead of second-place Liverpool with one more game played.

Kulusevski sprung an early surprise when he netted his first goal since joining the club in the final days of the January transfer window.

The Sweden winger looked sharp on the counter-attack and calmly slotted home into an empty net following a selfless layoff from Son.

Gundogan struck back for City after a period of sustained pressure when he took advantage after opposing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris parried a cross onto the floor in front of him, leaving Gundogan with a comfortable finish to level the scores.

Kane, who attempted to push through a move to City last summer, then put Spurs ahead again in the 59th minute with a well-taken finish to convert a whipped cross from Son.

The Spurs striker then had a glaring chance to extend Spurs’ lead minutes later when he was sent through one-on-one with goalkeeper Ederson, but he was denied.

The action-packed affair continued as Gundogan found himself back in the heart of the action with another curled effort into the far top corner in the 65th minute, forcing a spectacular diving save from Lloris.

However, Kane remained potent at the other end and even had the ball in the back of the net once again.

This was after he took advantage of a deflected Kulusevski shot, but it was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for an offside in the build-up.

City were granted a lifeline as the game headed into stoppage time when Romero slide to defend a cross into the Spurs 18-yard box, but handled the ball with his raised arm.

This caused referee Anthony Taylor to check the on-field monitor and award a penalty, which Mahrez converted.

But there was still time for Kane to deliver a hammer blow, leaping onto a floated cross from Kulusevski to nod a 95th-minute winner.

Spurs moved up to seventh, four points behind fourth-place Manchester United, with two games in hand, as they continue their bid for Champions League qualification.

  • Antonio Conte regrets becoming Tottenham coach

Antonio Conte regrets becoming Tottenham coach

Chelsea and Tottenham legends, Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara have noted that Tottenham coach, Antonio Conte is regretting joining the Premier League club.

Both former Premier League stars shared the view after Conte hit out at Tottenham’s transfer business and winning mentality in a stunning interview with Sky Italia on Wednesday.

Spurs are struggling with form and Conte hit at the club, saying they are now ‘weaker’ after the January window.

Tottenham brought in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, but before then, four senior players were allowed to leave the club in the persons of Tanguy Ndomble, Dele Alli, Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso.

“We lost four players in January. Four important players for Tottenham, and we brought in only two. So, even just in terms of numbers, rather than reinforce the squad, we on paper weakened it,” Conte cried out.

And reacting to this, Cundy told talkSPORT that the former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan boss, “Basically he’s saying, why have I come to Spurs?

“That is a statement of regret. He knows it’s going to come back.

“It’s damning what he has said there. But he’s talking facts.”

And O’Hara echoed Cundy’s sentiments, saying Conte’s comments will have done his players no good.

O’Hara said: “It’s too honest. I’m not happy about it. He’s covering his own back and digging everyone else out at the club.

“I know he’s speaking facts, but he can’t do that as manager.

“If you’re a player you’re a little bit disappointed in the gaffer there.

“You can see he’s not happy, on the sidelines, he looks like he’s crushed and the weight of the world is on his shoulders and he doesn’t know how to get out.

“He’s always had great players and he’s always had clubs who want to win the league and now he’s at a club that doesn’t want to win the league.”
