Serie A: Totti tipped De Rossi sacking at Roma

Roma legend Francesco Totti won’t be surprised by today’s dismissal of Daniele de Rossi.

Roma announced this morning the sacking of De Rossi just four games into the Serie A season.

Just last week, De Rossi’s former teammate and captain Totti admitted he could see problems emerging inside the club.

He stated:  “With certain crazy expenses, Roma must necessarily get to the Champions League. If you invest 100 million and don’t get there, it’s a total failure. And without it, Daniele (De Rossi) skips the game first, doesn’t get to the end.

“He’s the lightning rod. And the one who loses is him, but fortunately he knows everything and everyone. At this moment he’s the only one who can be a coach at Roma. But have you seen what they said to him after these first games? Last year is the past, they’ve already forgotten everything.

“It’s easy to forget, look what happened to me”.

Mourinho can lead Roma to top of Italian football – Totti

Roma legend Francesco Totti says Jose Mourinho has re-energised the club.

Totti is happy seeing Mourinho now in charge of the Giallorosso.

He told Sport: “I hope Roma finish the championship in the top four so as to play the next Champions League.

“I think Mou is a great coach and can lead the team to the top in Italy. The Roma fans don’t have much patience because they haven’t won anything for a long time, but with the arrival of Mourinho there is a lot of hope of regaining a title.

    “That’s what the fans need.”

Totti meets girl who woke from coma after his message

Nineteen-year-old Ilenia Matilli has been in hospital since December, after a car crash which killed her best friend.

In her gradual awakening from a coma, a video message of support from former AS Roma great Francesco Totti played a part.

“Hold on and don’t give up,” the 44-year-old former Roma captain and forward told Ilenia in a video he sent following a request from her parents.

After hearing his voice, Ilenia gave further signs of recovery and wrote on a special blackboard that she wanted to meet her idol.

Totti and Ilenia spent an hour together, the Gemelli hospital said in a statement.

Even though she used to play for the women’s team of Roma’s city rivals Lazio, Ilenia was wearing a Roma T-shirt which Totti signed with a golden marker pen.

“I want to see you out of the hospital soon and get your life back,” Totti was quoted as saying.

Doctor Luca Padua, who leads the neurorehabilitation unit, said listening to music, sounds and looking at images were an important part of Ilenia’s therapy.

“There is still a long way forward, but we are confident,” Padua said.

Former Italy international Totti spent his whole career at Roma, playing over 600 Serie A matches for the club before retiring in 2017.
