WAR: Paris grants stranded Ukrainian dancers long-term residency to keep them safe

Ukrainian dancers of the Kyiv City Ballet, who are stranded abroad after they went on tour in February, have been granted a long-term residency by Paris, to keep them safe.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the dancers had no idea they would be stranded abroad for eight months due to war in Ukraine. They remain in limbo, determined to save their culture through dance.

WAR: Paris grants stranded Ukrainian dancers long-term residency to keep them safe

In Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, under the rumble of the “L” train, the ballet’s dancers have more on their minds than just choreography. Dancers Sasha Moroz and Maryna Apanasenko, both 19, say most of their family members are still in Ukraine.

“All my family are in Kyiv now. My mother, father, sister,” Moroz said.

“I’m lucky to hear the voice of my mother, to see them only by phone. But I hope everything will be okay. To keep them safe, Paris granted the dancers a long-term residency. They are now traveling on their first-ever U.S. tour.

“It is a difficult period for all Ukrainians, but when you understand the main aim, to represent your country, you become more strong. I feel stronger when I dance because I know the main reason, and the main aim of that: to show the world our light, our energy,” Apanasenko maintained.

WAR: Paris grants stranded Ukrainian dancers long-term residency to keep them safe

The dance company left Ukraine on Feb. 23 to perform in Paris. Company director, Ivan Kozlov, said they were only supposed to be gone for three weeks. However, Russia invaded Ukraine the following day.

“We woke up and realized that our country is under attack,” Kozlov said.

When asked if the company feels any kind of guilt for not being in Ukraine, Kozlov responded: “It’s not guilt. We feel sorry that we cannot be in two places at the same time, you know? We are doing our best from the field of war, from the stages. You know, we represent our country. We’re trying to show how brave we are, how strong we are.”

Their U.S. tour features a new work created after the war started, called “Tribute to Peace.”

“It’s our place to fight, because our task is to save Ukrainian culture, to save Ukrainian dancers, to serve Ukrainian artists,” Apanasenko said. “Because culture is the country. Culture creates the country, I think. And Ukraine has a great history. And our task is to save it.”

“Because I have my own money as you can see…period! So all I’m saying is, you need to match my energy. Because, he will still break your heart, anyway.

“So, it’s better for you to cry with your Christian Dior and your private jet to Dubai,” Savage said.

  • Controversial Naira Marley secures U.S. visa amid restrictions

Controversial Naira Marley secures U.S. visa amid restrictions

Amid new visa restrictions slammed on Nigeria by the United States (U.S.) recently, controversial Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley has secured P2 visa to enter the U.S. for a music tour.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the P2 visa issued Naira Marley by the U.S. is for artists and entertainers who wish to participate in government permitted programs in the country.

It is a temporary work visa for non immigrants to perform in the U.S. through the government reciprocal program between an organization in their own country and the U.S.

Recall U.S. President Donald Trump recently signed a presidential proclamation that imposed an immigrant visa ban on Nigeria and five other countries in an expanded version of his travel ban list, sparking outrage from many of the countries, including Nigeria.

The development meant that citizens from Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar are now blocked from obtaining an immigrant visa.

U.S. officials have said the six countries failed to meet U.S. security and information-sharing standards, necessitating the new restrictions.

However, the option of P2 visa is available for artists and entertainers to exploit.

The artist or entertainer, who must possess skills that are equal to those of artists of U.S. performing outside the U.S., must enter U.S. through the government recognized reciprocal exchange program.

A US organization or employer must file Form I-129, Petition for a Non-Immigrant Worker, and the individual artist, entertainer or group should be invited through reciprocal program. The applicants must meet the health and character requirements as well.

Also, a P2 visa holder can participate in any exchange program in the U.S. The visa is granted for the duration of the program but can also be extended. A P2 visa holder can apply for green card and remain in the U.S. permanently. The spouse and dependent children can apply for P4 visa and stay in U.S. with the P1 visa holder. The spouse and children are entitled to study in the U.S. but not employment.

Naira Marley, who at various times has been arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for sundry financial related crimes, has secured this visa option as he is billed for a performance tour in the U.S. in March. All the crisis seems to be far behind him now.

The controversial musician, who his American fans refer to as ‘Africa’s snoop Dogg’, will perform in Dallas and other cities, with his show titled ‘Marlays Yankee’.

TNG learnt Naira Marley is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. on or before March 4. He will be performing to a crowded fan base in Swayz Ballroom in Dallas on March 6.

After a successful performance in Dallas, Naira Marley will proceed to Chicago, Maryland, Washington DC and North Carolina.

  • Obaseki accompanies Buhari on investment tour in China

The Chinese investors-backed big ticked projects in Edo State include the Benin River Port in Gelegele, the Benin Industrial Park and a modular refinery in Benin City, for which the Edo State Executive Council has approved a N700 million, as initial investment.

Sources familiar with the progress of the Edo-China investment collaboration, said “all these projects which Chinese investors have committed to, will receive final nod during the visit of president Buhari.”

Governor Obaseki was at the Chinese Embassy during the week for more consultations with officials of the People’s Republic of China, preparatory to the Buhari-led investment tour of the Asian country.

To further demonstrate the state government’s readiness to kick-start work on the modular refinery in Benin City, Obaseki on Friday at the weekly EXCO meeting, approved the release of N700 million as redeemable preference shares (investment) in the Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited.

According to Obaseki, “the company will be involved in the production of petroleum and petrochemical products and other related businesses.

“The venture will enhance the local refining capacity, thereby increasing the volume of nahtha, kerosene, diesel and residual fuel oil products available in Edo State.”

He added that the venture “will create legitimate employment opportunities thereby reducing poverty and providing job opportunities for teeming youth in the communities and facilitate the establishment of a fabrication yard as proposed by the promoters, thereby creating basis for expertise, professionalism and further training in oil and gas industry.”

The take-off of the Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company follows series of groundwork by the Obaseki administration that led to the setting up of Edo Investment Scheme Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to hold N2 billion investment funds in which the Ministry of Finance Incorporation (MOFI) and the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) which are to hold shares of 20 per cent and 80 per cent respectively, would facilitate the state’s investment in various initiatives across the oil and gas services, petroleum exploration, drilling and filling station, sales and supply of gas, oil agro allied products, petroleum and petrochemical products and other related businesses.

In the transaction design, the investment funds will be repaid in three years after the execution of the projects, besides the interest that will accrue to the state within the interim. The project will, in essence fund itself.
