Cameroon international, Andre Onana has officially joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a loan deal from Premier League giants Manchester United.

The 29-year-old fell down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim following a string of disappointing performances between the sticks for Man United.

Man United opted to sign Senne Lammens from Belgian side Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day and told Onana to find a new club.

Onana has now completed his loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor for the 2025-26 season, where he could earn double the money due to performance-based bonuses.

It’s understood that Man United will not receive a loan fee for the Cameroon international and there isn’t an option or obligation to buy in the future.

Red-hot Onuachu bangs third consecutive goal for Trabzonspor

On-form Nigerian attacker, Paul Onuachu made history after scoring in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 victory against Pendikspor at the Papara Park on Saturday.

Onuachu made it three goals in three consecutive Turkish Super Lig outings for Trabzonspor.

The 29-year-old made a name for himself as the first Trabzonspor player to achieve the feat since the 2007/28 season.

The lanky striker left relegated Southampton FC in the premier League to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan in August.

Onuachu scored on his debut for Trabzonspor against Besiktas and was also on target in his second game against Hatayspor.

He has been tipped to score 20 goals in the league this season by former Turkish manager, Fuat Capa.

Recall that Onuachu failed to register a single goal for Southampton last season in the English Premier league.

He was an unused substitute for the Saints in most games of last season.

    UEFA bans Turkish club Trabzonspor

UEFA has banned Turkey’s Trabzonspor from its club competitions for one year for failing to meet the financial targets.

The European football’s governing body said this on Wednesday.

“The CFCB [UEFA Club Financial Control Body] Adjudicatory Chamber has now determined that Trabzonspor AS failed to meet the target fixed for the 2019 financial year,” UEFA said.

UEFA monitors clubs financially to make sure they are not spending more money than they earn, a measure created to help teams avoid financial problems in the long-term.

The Financial Fair Play (FFP) criteria involve break-even targets, sporting measures and financial contributions.

UEFA stated that Trabzonspor will be barred from one UEFA competition in 2020/21 or 2021/22 football seasons once the Turkish team qualifies for the UEFA Champions League or Europa League.

It added that in July 2019, the CFCB determined that the club “failed to be break-even compliant as required by a settlement agreement, which it entered into on 20 May 2016”.

The UEFA’s financial authority said that it previously informed Trabzonspor that it would face a one season ban in the upcoming term if they couldn’t meet the financial target for last year.

  • Mikel quits Turkish club amid coronavirus outbreak

Mikel quits Turkish club amid coronavirus outbreak

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has mutually terminated his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor in an official statement on Tuesday confirmed they have indeed parted ways with Mikel, but no reason was adduced for the decision.

Mikel joined the Turkish league leaders at the start of the season and played a vital role for the purple and blue, featuring in 19 games before opting to leave the club.

The 32-year-old will forfeit the rest of his wages after leaving the club in what has shocked many fans in Turkey and Nigeria.

The statement released on Tuesday by Trabzonspor reads: “The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date, 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated. With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables”.

Though the club did not reveal why his deal was terminated, it might have to do with Mikel’s vocal stance about playing when the coronavirus has reached a pandemic state in Europe.

The former Chelsea player had last week criticised the Turkish league for allowing the league to continue despite the prevalence of the Covid-19 virus and called for it to be suspended.

Trabzonspor are currently top of the Turkish Super League with 53 points from 26 matches.

Turkey currently has 47 confirmed cases, most of which were contracted through foreign visits to the U.S., EU, or Saudi Arabia. To date, there have been no death

The virus emerged in Wuhan, China last December, and has since spread to at least 150 countries and territories. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a pandemic.

    Troubled Mikel may quit Trabzonspor

Erstwhile Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi could be forced to quit Turkish side Trabzonspor following alleged racism slur during his side 2-1 win over Fenerbahce at the weekend, reports AOIFootball.com

A close source to the player stated that the player condemned the incident but revealed his family may now be at risk after his girlfriend received treats and abuse on her social media page.

Mikel, who remains very passionate and dedicated to the Turkish club, could now be forced to consider his options in the summer especially with the situation with his family as he has always expressed his desires to stay closer to his twin daughters.

“It’s unlikely he will remain at Trabzonspor next season because his family is very important to him especially his twin daughters and now they don’t feel safe with all the treats and messages to his girlfriend Instagram account,” the source disclosed.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been in imperious form for the Turkish giants since completing a free transfer to the club last summer helping the club remain in two fronts as they target an unprecedented domestic double.
