Insecurity: Unknown gunmen abduct traditional ruler in Kaduna

Chief Joshua Ahmadu the District Head of Chawai in Kauru Local Government of Kaduna State has been abducted by unknown Gunmen.

Mr Abel Adamu, President of the Chawai Development Association confirmed his abduction on Wednesday.

Adamu, in a statement signed by Mr Raphael Joshua, Public Relations Officer of CDA, said that the traditional ruler was kidnapped Tuesday night “by gunmen who invaded his house at Zambina.”

“It was reported that the kidnappers stormed the house of the traditional ruler in their numbers around 9:30 p.m. and took him away,” Adamu was quoted as saying.

The CDA President was further quoted as expressing dismay over the situation while assuring residents that CDA was working hard to ensure that the victim was released unhurt.

“Already, relevant authorities and heads of security operatives on special duty in the chiefdom have been duly informed and have already swung into action to rescue the traditional ruler.

“We are calling on all sons and daughters of Tsam land to pray for the safe return of the district head.”

The statement challenged the youths of the chiefdom to always take communal security seriously so as to avert such breaches.

“We have to be on our feet to ensure the land is safe.

“It’s unfortunate that at this critical time, the youths, who ought to be the communal force to guarantee security across communities, are not ready to work in collaboration with security personnel to secure the land,” he lamented.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Tsam Chiefdom has suffered lots of abductions and attacks by bandits and kidnappers lately.

Some of the incidents have led to the loss of lives while large sums had also been paid to rescue kidnapped victims.

The CDA boss appealed to the government to direct security agencies to ensure that the district head was rescued and released “unconditionally”.

NAN learnt that the personnel of the Police Area Command in Kafanchan had since visited the family of the victim and assured relations of its readiness to “do everything possible” to rescue the traditional ruler.

We drink water from same stream with cows – C/River traditional ruler

Mr. Linus Odey, Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River, says his Akwarinyin- Abu community and 15 others drink water from the same stream with cows.

He stated this when the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Sandy Onor campaign team met with him and 16 clan heads at Akwarinyin-Abu near Abuochiche in Bekwarra Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The Monarch, who also bemoaned the state of the road that connected the communities, said it took three days for them to get the council headquarters during the rainy season.

Odey pointed out that the communities lacked social amenities ranging from water, health facilities, and road that should enhance the living standard of humans.

According to him, “any aspiration that does not change the life of the people is a wasted investment.

“I am happy that you know that the road is one of our major problems, just so you know that it takes us three days to connect the local government headquarters during the rains.

“No hospital, no road, no boreholes; no dividends of democracy in this community in the last seven years.”

Earlier, the PDP governorship candidate had described the road as an “eyesore” that a responsible government ought to have taken care of for the benefit of inhabitants of the 16 communities.

Onor promised that if voted into office, his administration would construct the raod within two years.

“What we have seen of this road is nothing we can draw satisfaction from.

“It is supposed to be a rural road but of course, it is nothing less of what the present administration has reduced this state to.

“My government will not be known for making bogus promises; we can only promise what we can do and not we can’t do,” he stated.

BREAKING: Lagos traditional ruler, brother bag 15-year jail term

An Ikeja High Court on Tuesday sentenced a dethroned Baale of Shangisha in Magodo area of Lagos State, Mutiu Ogundare and his brother, Opeyemi Mohammed to 15 years imprisonment each for faking his own kidnap.

Justice Hakeem Oshodi had on June 15 convicted Ogundare and Mohammed on three counts of bordering on conspiracy and fake abduction.

“I have considered the allocutus of the defence counsels. However, it is in the view of this court that the defendants showed no remorse during trial.

“In fact, the first defendant  tried to buy his way out of the court. A lesson has to be thought to serve as deterrent to others.

“The defendants are hereby sentenced to 10 years for count one without an option of fine,   one year to count two with an option of N200,000  and 15 years to count three without an option of fine.

“The sentencing shall run concurrently from the day they had been arrested,” Oshodi said.

The court however set his wife Abolanle, free having earlier absolved her of the charges.

Mr Olarewaju Ajanaku  who represented the first defence counsel, Dr Muniz Banire, in his allocutus on June 15 prayed the court to temper Justice with mercy.

Ajanaku had prayed the court that the convict had turned a new leaf and he did not think through his action when he committed the offences.

The second defence counsel, Dr Olayinka Owoeye, also in his allocutus had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy adding that the convict had learnt his lessons.

The state prosecutor, Mr Jubril Kareem, however, urged the court to apply the provisions of law to sentence the convict.

According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the offence on July 5, 2017.

The prosecution said that Ogundare put himself forward to be kidnapped for the purpose of causing breach of public peace, adding that his brother and wife aided in the crime.

Former Lagos governor, Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos, in July 2017, ordered the removal of Ogundare as the Baale of Shangisha, for staging his own abduction.

The offences contravene Section 7(1) and (2) of Lagos State  Kidnapping Prohibition Law of 2017, and Sections 96  (1) (a-d)  and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
