Ikay Gundogan rejects two bumper offers

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has turned down two lucrative offers this summer.

The Citizens midfielder, who helped his side to a historic treble this term, is coming off contract.

Per Bild in Germany, Gundogan rejected interest from former club Borussia Dortmund and Saudi Arabia.

The midfielder is also a target for Barcelona, with their offer appealing to him the most.

City may yet come in with a bid to keep him at the club for next season and beyond.

As things stand, Gundogan joining Barca on a free and signing a multi-year contract appears the most likely outcome.

  • Transfer: Liverpool sign Alexis Mac Allister

Transfer: Liverpool sign Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool have begun the rebuild of their midfield with the signing of Brighton’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister.

A fee has not been disclosed but it is understood the 24-year-old had a release clause in a contract he only signed in October.

The fee in the clause is believed to be around 45 million pounds (56 million dollars).

Now the Argentinian is believed to have signed a five-year contract.

Mac Allister has been on the club’s radar prior to his move to the Seagulls in 2019 but the club felt his development was still in its early stages.

But his versatility to play in several positions was a key factor in their interest.

He was subsequently identified as a key target prior to the winter World Cup in Qatar, in which he played a key part in Argentina’s victory.

Moreover, Liverpool were keen to secure his services to avoid a bidding war.

Mac Allister’s age and his career appearances (160) fit in with the demographics of some of the club’s most successful signings like Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Roberto Firmino.

He represent the start of an overhaul of a midfield which lost James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of their contracts.

“It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Mac Allister said.

“I wanted to be in (from) the first day of pre-season. So, it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates.

“It was a fantastic year for me with the World Cup, and what we achieved with Brighton. But now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.

“Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that – that’s the aim and when you are in a big club like this one, you have to win trophies. So, that’s what I want.

“Since I arrived here, I can see how big this club is —- the players we have, the staff, everyone.

“I’m really pleased and looking forward to playing for this club.”

EPL: Liverpool signing Mac Allister for knockdown fee

Liverpool have been able to secure an impressive deal to sign Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Per the Liverpool Echo and other sources, Mac Allister has Brighton’s permission to complete a medical ahead of the transfer.

The Reds will pay a fee that starts at £45 million, which is a lot less than fans were expecting.

The source adds that Mac Allister did have a transfer release clause in his contract.

Such an agreement that he had with Brighton has helped the Reds secure him without getting involved in a bidding war.

Any money they can save on this transfer will allow them to make more moves later on in the window.

Odegaard’s move to Arsenal a big mistake – Ex-Madrid president

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says the club will regret selling Martin Odegaard to Arsenal.

Now Gunners captain, Odegaard is playing the best football of his career.

Calderon told VG: “It is a great pity and it appears to be a big mistake.

“He is doing very well at Arsenal. The point with Real Madrid is that we don’t have room for everyone, it’s a shame.

“Sometimes players leave because there are too many players in that position. Maybe Martin wasn’t at his peak then. But he’s a great player, that’s why we signed him.”

Transfer: Chelsea, Bayern hold first Mane meeting

Premier League side Chelsea have opened talks with Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane.

It’s emerged after a difficult first season in Germany, both Bayern and former Liverpool striker Mane have agreed to part ways this summer.

Transfer expert Pedro Almeida is reporting a first round of talks have been held between Chelsea and Bayern.

The meeting was held on Sunday, May 7, in Munich.

It’s suggested Chelsea are favourites for Mane’s signing, while Newcastle United are also keen. The Senegal captain has a deal with Bayern to 2025.

Chelsea ready as Bayern Munich set Mane price

Bayern Munich are considering letting Sadio Mane leave the club when the season concludes.

The Senegal winger has not enjoyed the spell at Bayern that he was hoping to experience when he signed last summer from Liverpool.

Mane has looked a shadow of his former self, with the 31-year-old failing to live up to his hype as the replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

After signing in a £35 million deal, Mane has not scored enough goals and has issues with his teammates.

Per Bild, a big enough offer would convince Bayern to part with Mane and rebuild their front line.

The source adds that Chelsea may be looking to bring him back to England.

Arsenal chief draws up 4-man midfield shopping list

Arsenal sporting director Edu has drawn up a list of midfielders to sign for the club.

The Brazilian former Gunners midfielder wants to ensure that area of the team is suitable for manager Mikel Arteta.

With the Gunners’ Premier League title charge faltering, fans will be happy to know summer investments are planned.

Per David Ornstein, who spoke on American Television channel Peacock, Edu will target Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, Chelsea star Mason Mount, Ajax playmaker Mohammed Kudus, and prime target Declan Rice of West Ham United.

Rice may be the hardest of the players to sign, given West Ham appear likely to avoid relegation.

However, Arsenal believe that he can take the team to another level in the Premier League and Champions League next term.

  • What Barca must do to sign Messi – La Liga president

What Barca must do to sign Messi – La Liga president

La Liga president Javier Tebas admits he struggles to see how Barcelona can sign Lionel Messi.

The PSG star remains a target for Barca, though a return faces the obstacle of LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play.

Tebas said on RMC: “As of today, I see it as complicated. There is still time, but there will have to be an exit of players and a reduction in the wage bill.

“There will have to be in order to be able to register Messi. And then there is one thing we don’t know, which is Messi’s salary. There are still many variables.

“Barça is not like PSG, who have a tap of gas and money to have a large wage bill. It has to reduce the wage bill to be able to sign players.

“It’s like the metro, let people out so they can come in. And people still have to get out of the metro.”
