    Troops subdue Boko Haram terrorists in battle for heart of Borno LGA

    Nigerian Army troops of the newly reinvigorated Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted Boko Haram terrorist’s attempt to infiltrate Rann town, the capital of Kala Balge LGA of Borno State.

    Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, Director Army Public Relations made this known in a statement on Monday, saying the incident occurred on 1 May 2021.

    He stated that the terrorists in their numbers attempted to disrupt the peace that has been enjoyed by the border town but were met with stiff resistance as the troops in the area took them on a fierce fire fight which lasted about an hour.

    “The terrorists withdrew in disarray with a large number of them suffering fatal injuries leaving behind several weapons and ammunition including anti aircraft gun barrel, AK 47 rifle, hand held communication radio and different calibres of ammunition.

    “In a related development, on 2 May 2021, another band of Boko Haram Terrorists on a criminal mission attacked Ajiri town of Konduga LGA of Borno State.

    “The terrorists having reached part of the town initially burnt 9 houses and killed some innocent residents before they were engaged by the troops deployed in the area.

    “The retreating terrorists went away with various degrees of gun shot injuries while the gallant troops are on their chase. Unfortunately however, 2 personnel paid the supreme price in the resulting encounter,” the statement reads.

    Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Magashi Bashir, has asked the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole not to fear any bullet from the terrorists.

    He gave the charge on Sunday during a visit to the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the company of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor and other service chiefs.

    “Don’t fear any bullet, the bullet will come and it will go,” he said. “If you are not meant to die by a bullet you will never die but if you are meant to die by a bullet, even in your bedroom bullet will come and reach you, which is what I experienced during service.”

    According to the Minister, the motive of the visit was to assess the fighting spirit of the troops of operation Lafiya Dole and also to motivate them.

    He also intimated the troops of the Federal Government’s plan to recruit more hands to relieve battle fatigued soldiers.

    Magashi added, “Very soon we will embark on the recruitment of other soldiers and officers so that we improve the manpower holding of our armed forces.

    “We will bring new equipment, new skills in which I will like all of you to benefit from to enable you to be more proficient, more effective in this assignment you’re doing. We have lost time; we are now almost ten years in this operation.

    “There are many other operations that we are doing in terms of banditry and other things in this country and I am sure that given the right tools, you will do this country proud. We believe in you, your training, professionalism and we believe you can do the country the requirements of beating the Boko haram as we have it now.”

    He said: “As the inner caucus of President Buhari’s administration, who are trusted with the responsibilities of the protection and peaceful coexistence of the nation, Nigerians should blame them for failure or otherwise of the government.”

    JUST IN: Troops rescue 10 kidnap victims of Kaduna Airport staff quarters

    The Kaduna State Government said troops of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday, rescued the 10 victims kidnapped from the Kaduna Airport Staff Quarters on March 6.
    The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan made the disclosure at a press conference in Kaduna.
    “It could be recalled that bandits breached the fence of the Kaduna Airport Staff Quarters in the early hours of March 6, and kidnapped these 10 persons from two houses located near the fence.
    “Precise details of the rescue location cannot be provided at this time due to operational expediency.”
    The commissioner, however, said Gov. Nasir El-Rufai was elated by the news and congratulated the troops for the successful rescue of the 10 victims.
    He wished the rescued victims well as they re-unite with their families and loved ones.
    According to reports, one of the victims, who is a member of staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), was kidnapped along with his wife, five children, and three other persons who had visited them.

    The Nigerian Army says the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have eliminated over 41 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in an encounter at Gulwa and Musuri in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno.

    The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, in a statement on Monday, said the success was recorded in the early hours of Monday.

    Yerima said 60 captives were rescued from the terrorists, and sophisticated weapons were recovered during the encounter with the criminals.

    He said the troops engaged the terrorists at Musuri in a firefight that lasted about 45 minutes leading to the killing of 41 terrorists as a result of the superior firepower of the troops.

    “Items recovered from the obliterated fighters include; 12 AK47 rifles, eight Fabric Nationale (FN) rifles, a motorcycle, six bicycles, mechanic tool boxes, a sewing machine, large quantity of batteries used for making of Improvise Explosive Devices and sex enhancement drugs amongst other things.

    “Troops are in high fighting spirit and determined as ever to clear the entire region and country of vestiges of Boko Haram terrorists.

    “The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has already congratulated the gallant troops while urging them to keep up the tempo,” he said.

    Troops mostly made up of the officers and men of the Nigerian Airforce have foiled fresh attempts by armed bandits to kidnap another set of workers residing in the staff quarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the Kaduna airport.

    It’s the second time in two weeks the Gunmen attacking the aviation workers.

    How troops foiled kidnapping of Kaduna students

    The Kaduna State Government says troops have foiled attempt to kidnap students of Government Science Secondary School, Ikara, Ikara Local Government Area of the state.

    The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this at a news conference in Kaduna on Sunday.

    Aruwan was at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) to brief newsmen on recent events in respect to the security situation in the State.

    He said between the late hours of Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday, some suspected bandits stormed the Government Science Secondary School, Ikara, with intention to kidnap the students.

    “Fortunately, the students utilised the security warning system in place, and were thus able to alert security forces in the area.

    “The security forces, comprising the troops of the Nigerian Army, Police and some security volunteers, moved swiftly to the school and engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee.

    “The military and police are still on the trail of the armed bandits,” he said.

    The commissioner said following a headcount by the school management, the Kaduna State Government could confirm that all 307 students had been verified safe and present.

    He added that the attempted kidnap was foiled completely and no student was taken from the school.

    Aruwan also disclosed that around Ifira village in Igabi Local Government Area, bandits attempted to attack a senior staff quarters around the Kaduna airport general area.

    “This attempt was also foiled as troops of the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army engaged and repelled them, with several escaping with gunshot wounds.

    “The state government acknowledges the efforts of the security agencies in the recent rescue of 180 students in the vicinity of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka.

    “These efforts have being mentioned in interviews given by some of the rescued students.

    “By virtue of access to the facts of the event, the Kaduna State Government extends its unequivocal solidarity to the Military, Police, Department of State Services and other security agencies, whose swift intervention prevented the bandits from abducting more persons,” the commissioner stated.

    He said government would maintain a clear focus at this time to ensure the safe return of the missing students, and to consolidate on intelligence gathering and security vigilance towards forestalling possible attempt on other facilities or institutions.

    “As a government, our focus is on getting back our missing students and preventing further episodes of school abductions. We will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available” Aruwan said.

    More than twenty weapons have been recovered in a clearance operation against Boko Haram Terrorists in Borno State.

    According to a statement by the Nigerian Army’s Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, on Wednesday in Abuja, troops captured cache of arms and ammunition during the clearance operation.
    “Troops of `Operation Tura Takaibango’ have killed 25 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Chikun Gudu and Kerenoa in Borno State…”, he said.

    He he added that Chikun Gudu and Kerenoa are adjoining villages under Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

    The army PRO stated that two Browny Machine Gun, 20 AK47 Rifles, five FN Rifles, two 60mm Motar Tube and two General Purpose Machine Guns were recovered by the troops during the encounter.
    Yerima said that the operation was conducted on Tuesday by the combined troops of Sector I, Operation Lafiya Dole and 402 Special Forces Brigade.

    According to him: “Other weapons captured during the operation also include three Anti Aircraft Guns, two Automatic Grenade Launchers, two gun trucks and one CJTF Hilux amongst others.
    “The troops not swayed by the success project further to ensure no elements of the terrorists were left within the area.’’

    He noted that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru expressed satisfaction on the operation, adding that he urged the troops to maintain the momentum.
    According to the army spokesman, General Attahiru also instructed the troops not relent in their new offensive against the terrorists.

    The Kaduna State Government said troops of Operation Thunder Strike (OPTS) have killed four bandits and recovered three rifles in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

    The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Aruwan said: “Four bandits have been killed and several others injured in an ambush operation conducted by troops around Gwagwada, Chikun local government area.

    “According to operational feedback from troops of Operation Thunder Strike (OPTS), intelligence was received on bandits movement from Katika village towards Antenna in Chikun LGA and in response to this, the troops laid an opportunity ambush at Antenna village.

    “The bandits approached the location and eventually sprang the ambush. The troops opened fire as they entered the killing range.

    “After the engagement, four of the bandits were confirmed dead, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

    “Three rifles and one axe were recovered from the scene,” he added

    The commissioner said Gov. Nasir El-Rufai commended the troops for swift action which led to the successful exercise and the elimination of the four bandits.

    “Residents in the area are urged to report individuals seeking treatment for suspicious injuries by calling the Kaduna State Security Operations Room on 09034000060 or 08170189999,” Aruwan said.

    Troops of the Nigerian Army in Bama, Maiduguri, Borno State has taken over the farm allegedly belonging to Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

    In series of pictures and videos release by the Nigerian Military on Saturday afternoon, the troops where seen jubilating in the terrorist leader’s farm alongside locals who where invited to help themselves with all that is edible in the farm.

    The troops while jubilating where heard chanting in Hausa language calling out Shakau to show himself and come out to fight like a man instead of hiding in the thick Forest.

    “Here we are in your farm, Shekau, we a having our Jumaat prayer in your farm, come out and stop hiding let’s fight like men….” the soldiers said while shooting in the air in Jubilation.

    Troops eliminate two most wanted Boko Haram commanders in Borno

    Nigerian Army Headquarters says the troops of Operation Tura Takaibango on Tuesday eliminated two most wanted Boko Haram terrorists leaders, Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib in an encounter at Pulka axis of Borno.

    The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

    Yerima said the renewed offensive operations by troops under the theatre command, Operation Lafiya Dole, had continued to inflict heavy casualty on the Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the North East.

    He said the troops of 121 and 151 Battalions had on Tuesday, laid ambush at the terrorists’ crossing point between Vuria and Guja settlements along road Banki Junction – Pulka axis.

    He said that three terrorists, including the two wanted commanders were neutralised during the ambush.

    According to him, the troops also recovered three GPMG, seven AK47 rifles, a belt of ammunition containing 446 rounds of 7.62mm, one Boxer motorcycle and one ITEL 2160 mobile phone among others.

    “Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib were among the top BHTs commanders of the Shekau faction operating in Sambisa forest and environs.

    “The two terrorist commanders have been on the intelligence watch-list for some time.

    “Abul-Bas was a top commander second to Abu Fatima, while Ibn Habib was the BHT Commander in charge of Njimia and Parisu camps in the Sambisa Forest,” he said.

    The spokesperson said the elimination of Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib by the gallant troops had inflicted a big blow on the operations of the terrorists and further boosted the morale of the troops of Operation Tura Takaibango.

    “The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has commended the troops for this feat and other successes being recorded in the Theatre.

    “He further charged them to intensify the aggressive clearance operation in order to clear the Sambisa Forest and environs of all remnant terrorists and their collaborators,” he said.
