We don’t trust Igbo people – Remi Tinubu

Senator Remi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central at the National Assembly, created a stir on Saturday when she told an Igbo man that she does not trust people from their ethnic group

The wife of All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, made this known after voting at the polling unit in front of her Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi

The encounter was captured in a video that has since gone viral.

Speaking directly to a physically challenged voter identified as Charles Nnamani, Mrs. Tinubu said that Igbos in Lagos did not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari during the presidential election.

When Nnamani told her that he voted for Buhari, the 58-year-old responded in Pidgin English, “How I go know? Igbo, we no dey trust una again (How will I know? You Igbo, we don’t trust you anymore.)”

Recall that Tinubu, who was elected for a third term in the Senate last month, had earlier told people who demanded money from her at the polling booth “show me your hand, get the money.”

Earlier, while speaking with journalists, Tinubu attributed the low voter turnout at the polling unit to her belief that the elite living in the highbrow area believed that only the Federal Government’s policies could impact on their business interests.

  • 2019: INEC warns staff not to betray public trust

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it will not hesitate to discipline any staff found to have betrayed public trust during the 2019 general election.

INEC Public Affairs Officer in Akwa Ibom, Mr Don Etukudo gave the warning in a statement in Uyo on Sunday.

Etukudo urged INEC staff to ensure that the commission is able to deliver free, fair and credible election to the people of the state in line with its mandate.

“In the last one year, the commission have been counseling staff on how to ensure a successful 2019 general election and will initiate disciplinary measures on staff that compromise the process,” he said.

He said the commission had withdrawn some electoral officers from the field and re-assigned them to different Local Government Areas (LGAs) other than where they were serving before.

According to him, the exercise is a strategic re-organisation and re-positioning to ensure that the process leading to the general election is fool proof.

Etukudo said the commission was rejuvenating and re-positioning its personnel to the core values of integrity and impartiality necessary to drive them towards delivering on the commission’s mandate.

He urged politicians in the state to steer clear of INEC’s staff in the forthcoming general election by refraining from “unethical engagement” that may jeopardise the careers of the staff.

Etukudo further said INEC staff recently elevated had been given their letters of promotion.

He enjoined the affected staff to reciprocate the gesture by re-dedicating and committing themselves to the mandate of the commission.

  • Defection: Ortom betrayed our trust – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday accused Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State of betrayind the trust reposed in him by the party after his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that the governor defected from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, saying the party was no longer properly positioned to address the yearnings of Benue people.

Bolaji Abdullahi, national spokesperson for the APC, said the party found the defection “somewhat surprising” because concerted efforts were made to keep Mr Ortom in its fold, and regretted that the governor had to leave.

The party recalls efforts made by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to address some of the grievances raised by the Benue State Governor pertaining to the local politics in Benue State.

The governor had left the meeting saying he was satisfied with the assurances given by party leaders. We are still working on giving effect to the resolutions from the meeting. Therefore, we are somewhat surprised by Governor Ortom’s decision,” Abdullahi said.

Nonetheless, the party said it would continue to respect the rights of citizens to chose which party they found accommodating enough for their political endeavours, even as he indicated that negotiations would continue to prevent others from decamping.

The party reiterates its earlier position that it respects the rights of every citizen to chose their political affiliation but expresses hope that those who have left the Party will rescind their decisions.

Even with this development, we don’t think it is too late for reconciliation. We have to continue to talk. As long as people keep their minds open and have the courage to put the real issues on the table, reconciliation is still possible,” he added.

The APC has been experiencing a wave of defection lately. At least 15 of its senators and 37 of its House of Representatives members decamped on Tuesday. A substantial majority of them swiftly joined the PDP.

Recall that the APC speaker had earlier been impeached following mass defection of members that elevated the PDP to the majority in recent weeks.

The development had been predicted to hurt the ruling party’s chances of retaining power in 2019 general elections.

Abdullahi urged all APC members to remain calm and be absolutely confident of the party’s ability to ensure that more high-profile politicians remained on its platform.

We once again call on members across the country to remain calm as the party leadership continues to work hard to position the party strongly for the next general elections,” Abdullahi said.

  • Apology: Nigerians can’t trust you again – Presidency tells PDP

The Presidency on Friday said Nigerians will never trust the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) again despite tendering their apologies for mistakes committed for the sixteen years they (the PDP) held sway as ruling party.

This was revealed in a statement by President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

Recall that the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus had apologised on behalf of the PDP for all wrongs committed by the party while it ruled Nigeria for 16 years.

The position of the Presidency on Friday reaffirmed an earlier reaction by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, who said the PDP should complement its apology by returning all the funds looted from public treasury under its watch.

Shehu in the statement said the point made by the Minister of Information, “is apt and on cue, that there are heavy moral duties that go with apologies if the culprits want to be taken seriously”.

The Presidency said PDP is desperate to recapture power because it no longer has unhindered access to national resources for private use and its apology should be seen in this context.

The government also said PDP had not even acknowledged the fact that it plundered the national economy.

“Even desperate thieves apologize because they are caught and not because they are incapable of repeating the crime if they had another opportunity,” the statement said.

“We believe that the PDP should not only apologize for the imposition of candidates, and the culture of impunity, but must also come clean and acknowledge that they participated in large scale corruption and massive diversions of public funds to private pockets while poverty was ravaging the ordinary Nigerians,” the Presidency said.

The government also challenged individual PDP leaders to publicly and voluntarily tell Nigerians how much they “stole” and then agree to cough up their illegal acquisitions of wealth if they want their apology to be taken seriously.

It said apology born out of desperation to recapture power without a desire to admit how much they stole and the reluctance to return the loot is morally hollow.

“This goes beyond rebranding. Nigerians are not interested in brands. They want their money back,” it said.

“For such apology to gain acceptance, the offenders must first of all show remorse; then return that which was unlawfully taken or restore the damage caused the nation; and commit to never doing the wrong they did again.

“The PDP has done none of these for them to be taken seriously by anyone,” the statement said.

The government also condemned PDP’s response to Mr. Mohammed’s statement.

It said instead of addressing the issues raised by the Minister, the PDP veered off to accuse the Buhari administration of borrowing money, “but failed, in that regard to admit that they borrowed to steal while Buhari administration is borrowing to set up long-delayed infrastructure”.

“They accused the President of unevenness, of inflaming ethnic and religious tensions, when it is on record that they gave this country its divisive president who chose the hallowed premises of places of worship to read important national statements.

“President Buhari never fails in his duty as the Chief Security Officer of the nation. He acts fast whenever and wherever there are incidents by ordering law-enforcement agencies to do their job and fact-finding mission to give him actionable reports,” the statement said.

It said PDP’s uncaring attitude to these matters, including the kidnapping of 270 girls from Chibok was the hallmark of the long years of misrule.

Another issue of moral and political significance, the statement said, is about the recent disclosure by U.S. investigators that the PDP government engaged in massive data theft that included the hacking of Candidate Muhammadu Buhari’s personal data before the last general elections.

It said PDP’s continued silence on this “reprehensible heist” only goes to confirm their remorselessness even as more and more facts are emerging that the same unfair method was the modus operandi that they used to capture political power in previous elections.

  • Why Kanye West has trust issues

Kanye released a song called “Real Friends” earlier in 2016. No one knows the reason for the song. In the song, he gave an hint.

“I had a cousin that stole my laptop that I was f–kin’ bitches on. Paid that n—a 250 thousand just to get it from him. Real friends…Huh?”

From indications, its like a certain cousin of his had allegedly threatened to expose a sex tape he found on a laptop Kanye had loaned to another cousin. According his cousin Lawrence Franklin, the laptop was Kanye’s back in 2011 and contained a sextape of Yeezy and a fair-skinned unidentified African-American woman. He says this caused Kanye to become distrustful of those in his inner-circle,

“the sex tape episode started his decline – he stopped trusting people. This did make Kanye upset… It caused a huge rift in our family,”. he said.

That is why they say, ‘careful who you trust’.
