Chelsea co-owner reveals why Thomas Tuchel was sacked

Chelsea co-owner Jonathan Goldstein has explained the sacking of former manager Thomas Tuchel last month.

Tuchel’s sacking came as a surprise given his success during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League, a Super Cup, a Club World Cup, and reaching back-to-back FA Cup finals and a League Cup final.

Goldstein, who is co-founder and CEO of Cain International, believes swapping Tuchel for new manager Graham Potter was the right decision and that the former Brighton boss can lead Chelsea to new heights.

“It’s a decision we made as a group that we felt was in the best long-term interests of the club,” Goldstein told Bloomberg. “Ultimately, you need to ensure there’s complete harmony between management & the ownership group. We felt that wasn’t right.

“And we are thrilled Graham Potter is now leading. He had a great win in the Champions League just the other night. And we are sure he will take the club onto greater heights.”

Sacked Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is at risk of deportation from the UK.

Tuchel was replaced by Graham Potter at Chelsea earlier this month.

And to make things worse for Tuchel, he may be booted out of the country too due to Brexit rules, reports the Telegraph.

It is believed the 49-year-old is only able to stay for a maximum of 90 days following his sacking having arrived on a post-Brexit Governing Body Endorsement visa.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the relevant parties.

Talks are ongoing and Tuchel is said to be “happy and comfortable” living in the UK, and he is still weighing up his options.

He was even spotted smiling in London on Wednesday.

Tuchel was the reason I joined Chelsea – Zakaria

Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria admits he moved to Stamford Bridge because of Blues former manager, Thomas Tuchel.

The Swiss is on loan at the London club from Juventus.

Zakaria told Blick: “It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window.

“I packed my things and waited for the contracts to be signed. Then I did the medical check in Turin and it was through, it was very close.

“Thomas Tuchel was one of the reasons I went to Chelsea, he’s a great coach.

“But now we haven’t had much time with him, but that’s football. Everything goes fast.

“I might have a new chance with the new coach, about whom I’ve heard a lot of good things. I will work a lot to get my place.”

Don’t ask me about Tuchel – Jorginho

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has refused to offer what the players think of Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.

The German was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter last week.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League showdown with Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg, the Italian said: “It was a surprise of course for everyone. But what has been said between players, will stay there. I’m sorry.

“Of course there is talking around what happened, but now we have games coming and life is quick so we don’t have time to keep thinking again and again. We talked, but now we need to concentrate and focus on what we need to do.”

Tuchel questioned the mental strength of Chelsea’s players after the defeat at Dinamo Zagreb. Jorginho also said: “That was his feeling in that moment and he said that to us as well. We tried what we could to try and do our best.

“But unfortunately it wasn’t working anymore and the new challenge is to rebuild that confidence because Chelsea are a big club and we have a lot of work to do. To do that we all need to be working in the same direction.”

    Kante culls new Chelsea deal

French professional footballer, N’Golo Kante, has rejected Chelsea’s new contract proposal, with the Frenchman unhappy at the length of the deal on offer.

The Frenchman is out of contract in less than a year’s time, having failed to agree on new terms with the Blues.

Thomas Tuchel spoke openly about the situation with Kante before his departure and suggested that the Frenchman has to compromise over any contract extension because of his injury problems.

Kante has been sidelined regularly over the last two years but he remains the club’s highest-paid player.

The former Leicester City star wants to stay at Stamford Bridge but the club are only offering him an initial two-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

The Blues gave Kalidou Koulibaly a four-year deal last month, despite the fact that he is the same age as Kante.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also given a three-year deal, despite being two years older than Kante.

The Athletic, therefore, claimed Kante has rejected the club’s proposal and he is holding out for a longer deal.

It comes as two Premier League sides show interest in Kante, with the midfielder free to speak to other clubs from January 1st.

Kante can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs on January 1st, though English sides would have to wait.

He plays as a central midfielder for Premier League club Chelsea and the France national team.

Considered by many to be one of the world’s best midfielders, Kanté is widely praised for his work rate and defensive acumen.

Kanté made his senior professional debut with Boulogne in 2012, appearing as a substitute in one Ligue 2 match, and played an entire season in the third division the following year.

After that, he joined Ligue 2 side Caen on a free transfer, finished third and won promotion to Ligue 1.

He stayed with the club for one more year. In 2015, Kanté joined Leicester City for a fee worth £5.6 million.

Kanté was an integral part of the Leicester City team that went on to become surprise Premier League champions in 2016.

The following year, he joined Chelsea for a fee worth £32 million and again won the league, making him the first outfield player to win consecutive English league titles with different clubs since Eric Cantona in 1992 and 1993.

With Chelsea he has won the FA Cup, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup.

Individually, Kante has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Season, the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, the UEFA Men’s Midfielder of the year and the Trophées UNFP for Best French Player Abroad twice.

Kanté made his senior international debut for France in 2016 and was included in the squad that finished runners-up at the 2016 European Championship.

In 2017 Kanté was named the French Player of the Year, a first for a player from the Premier League in seven years, and twelve months later was a key member of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winning squad.

EPL: Why Aubameyang will not play for Chelsea – Tuchel

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed why new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might not feature soon for the London club.

Aubameyang will not be available for Saturday’s match against West Ham, after travelling to Italy to get a protective face mask fitted.

The 33-year-old suffered a broken jaw in an armed robbery incident at his home in Barcelona.

“We try with a mask. It depends a little bit on what the specialists say, who create the mask for him.

“And then how he adapts to the mask so maybe it could be Tuesday [in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb], although maybe this is very soon. So maybe it’s Fulham, maybe it is a week later.

“The very latest [is] after the national break but we try to push things and Auba is happy to push things. He is out there now at the specialist to get his mask done and then he tries, I think, Sunday in training,” Tuchel said.

Tuchel reveals happiest Chelsea player after Champions League draw

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admits Mateo Kovacic is happy with their Champions League group draw.

The midfielder has a connection with all three opponents – AC Milan, RB Salzburg, and Dinamo Zagreb.

Tuchel said, “I cannot care less about all the other groups. I only care about our group. I think we need to be fast with away tickets because the family of Mateo Kovacic is buying all that we have because it is in Austria, Croatia and his former city when he played for Inter and we are playing AC. I think he is buying all the tickets that are available so this is where the focus is for our players to get tickets for family and friends!

“It is always a difficult group. I have never experienced an easy group in the Champions League. I don’t care about names, which league, if this is our level or not. If we have to we want to go through. I have only experienced difficult group phases even if it looks from the outside if it’s easy and clear. These matches are tough. It’s the toughest competition. I am happy I will play against teams and in stadiums I have never played before. From there we go.”
