70- year – old woman delivers set of twins after many years of barrenness
A set of twins has been delivered by a 70-year-old woman in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
The septuagenarian has described the delivery of the twin boy and girl as miraculous event and a source of joy after years of barrenness.
The woman whose name has been given as Safina Namukwaya, delivered the twins, a boy and a girl, at a medical facility in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, on Wednesday, thanks to fertility treatment.
Dr Edward Tamale Sali, the doctor who supervised Namukwaya’s pregnancy and delivery, expressed awe at the extraordinary achievement, declaring it a milestone in Africa’s medical history.
The mother and her newborns are currently under the care of the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre, and reports suggest they are in good health.
Namukwaya, residing in the rural area of Masaka, approximately 120 kilometres (75 miles) west of Kampala, shared her overwhelming happiness at the unexpected arrival of the twins, especially considering her age, expressing gratitude for the miracle.
The new mother recounted how she previously gave birth to a girl in 2020, after being mocked as “cursed woman” who had previously failed to produce a child.
She said her first husband had died in 1992, leaving her without children, and she met her current partner in 1996.
Namukwaya expressed disappointment that her partner has not visited her since she went to the hospital for delivery, saying that his absence might be linked to the fear of the responsibilities associated with having twins.
“Maybe he is not happy that I delivered twins because men don’t want to know you are carrying more than one child in a womb for fear of may be responsibilities that come with that,” she said.

A US woman, based in California, known as Fatima Madrigal has given birth to a set of twins ‘two years apart’.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Madrigal gave birth to the twins at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California.
Baby Aylin Yolanda Trujillo was born exactly at midnight in 2022, but her twin brother, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo was born 15 minutes before in 2021.
Alfredo was born at 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2021 while his sister, Aylin, entered the world at exactly 12 midnight of Jan. 1, 2022.
Although fraternal twins Alfredo and Aylin Trujillo were only born 15 minutes apart, they have two different birth years.
This makes their birthdays not just fall on different days, but in different months and years.
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays. I was surprised and happy that she [Aylin] arrived at midnight,” the twins’ mother, Madrigal said.
The hospital said that twins with different birthdays are rare, adding that the chance of twins being born in different years is one in two million.
“This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career… It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the New Year!” family doctor, Ana Abril Arias said.
