Negative reactions spark Davido’s Twitter post

Nigerian artiste, David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, on Sunday received some backlash from many Twitter fans following a post considered disrespectful to Islam.

Davido in the tweet accompanying the video had said: “Allow me to re-introduce, @logosori with his new single “Jaye Lo”… Lets Run It Up one time! Let’s take over the world.”

A group of men, all in white jalamiya, were shown  in the video praying.

The reactions that followed were uncomplimentary.

Below are some of the reactions:

THE KING HERSELF @hafsat paki said: “At this point he’s intentionally being disrespectful, it’s over 20h and he’s not taking it down. So As a Muslim, what to do is unfollow him, report this post and block him !!!

Uthman Isa Tochukwu, LL.M (in view) @UthmanTochukwu said: “Since this video has been trending, I have been looking for any cause of action to see if I can personally drag @davido to court to compel him to take down this video and recall or suspend the release of this album. Still on the research, maybe will come up with something,” while Ahmad Ganga @AhmadGanda said: “First of all, I’ve unfollowed you, reported you, and deleted all your songs from my phone.

“While I condemn your hateful incitement against Islam and Muslims, I encourage my fellow Muslims to do the same to set standards to prevent future occurrence. Moreover, let’s meet in court!”

However, LIQUID ELECTRICITY@Kuwaitii Dinar responding to @AhmadGanga said: “Why were you even following him or listening to his songs in the first place? Is music not haram?”

Bashir Ahmad @BashirAhmaad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, said: There are many reasons why every Muslim finds this content absolutely disrespectful, hurtful and offensive @davido. “I assume you all know that we Muslims don’t mix our religion with jokes in any way, especially Salah (prayer), which is sacred and the second of the five pillars of Islam.

“In Salah, Muslims remember our Lord, Allah, express our love and respect for Him and invoke and strive to express our gratitude towards Him. The notion is that the Salah activity brings the individual face-to-face with God.

“That is what we believe, and that is our faith. Please respect it. No Muslim will find it as an honor or acceptable.”

Twitter vs Threads: Elon musk drags Mark Zuckerberg to court over launch of new app

Elon Musk Twitter has vowed to sue Meta 24 hours after it launched a rival application that gained massive users.

Threads gained  30 million users just 24 hours after it was launched and went live.

But now Twitter boss Elon Musk has sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, via his lawyer Alex Spiro, warning of potential legal action.

The letter says: ‘Twitter has serious concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.’

It claims that Meta has hired ‘dozens’ of former Twitter employees and that they have access to the company’s ‘trade secrets’.

Mr Spiro also said that many of these employees have ‘improperly retained Twitter documents and electronic devices.

Threads: Twitter rival hits 10m users within few hours of launch

More than 10 million people have signed up for Threads, Meta’s rival to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch, the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Thursday.

The app went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 2300 GMT on Wednesday and will run with no ads for now, but its release in Europe has been delayed over data privacy concerns.

Threads is the biggest challenger yet to Elon Musk-owned Twitter, which has seen a series of potential competitors emerge but not yet replace one of the world’s biggest social media platforms, despite its struggles.

“10 million sign-ups in seven hours,” Zuckerberg wrote on his official Threads account Thursday.

Accounts were already active for celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Hugh Jackman, as well as media outlets including The Washington Post and The Economist.

Zuckerberg also offered a shot across the bow at Musk – the pair are known to be bitter rivals and have offered to wrestle it out in a cage fight.

In his first tweet in over a decade, Zuckerberg posted a Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme in an apparent reference to the similarities between Threads

  • Harsh judgment: Woman to spend 30yrs in jail for criticising Govt on Twitter

Harsh judgment: Woman to spend 30yrs in jail for criticising Govt on Twitter

Saudi Arabia imprisoned a woman for 30 years for criticizing the Neom megacity project on Twitter.

ALQST, a UK-based human rights group, said a Saudi court sentenced Fatima al-Shawarbi to 30 years during a recent appeal hearing.

She is in her 20s and from Al-Ahsa province, the group said.

The Saudi justice system is cloaked in secrecy, often leaving activist groups as the only sources of information about cases.

ALQST said that it relies on its contacts for information, and needed to keep their identities secret for fear of reprisals. Officials at the Saudi embassy in London did not respond to Insider’s request for information

ALQST said al-Shawarbi was convicted over anonymous tweets in which she criticized Saudi Arabia’s treatment of people forcibly removed from their homes to make way for the construction of the planned city.

It said she was arrested in 2020. Per the group, she also criticized Saudi Arabia’s treatment of women, and called for a constitutional monarchy rather than the system of absolute rule that now exists.

Human Rights Watch in a 2020 report said that imprisoned female dissidents are often refused contact with family members and those in the outside world.

Lina Alhathloul, a researcher at ALQST, told Insider that al-Shawarbi had recently joined a hunger strike with several other women prisoners.

They include Salma al-Shehab, a Leeds University PhD student arrested in 2020 for criticizing the Saudi government on Twitter. Al-Shawarbi’s current condition is unknown, said Alhathloul.

Alhathoul said it was not known how Saudi authorities managed to establish that al-Shawarbi wrote the critical tweets.

She said she al-Shawarbi told friends to raise the alarm and publicize her case if she fell silent on social media for a prolonged period.

Neom is the signature project of Saudi Arabia’s autocratic leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The crown prince plans to construct the city across a 10,200 square mile area in the Tabuk Province in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

The UN in an April report said Saudi Arabia was trampling human rights in its push to complete the project, forcibly evicting thousands of the local Huweitat tribe from their homes.

The report said that Saudi security services shot dead tribe member Abdul Rahim al-Huwaiti as he resisted eviction in 2020, and that three other members of the tribe who resisted eviction were sentenced to death.

Saudi authorities have also ruthlessly persecuted those who’ve criticised the treatment of the Huweitat, and the killing of al-Huwaiti, said Alhathloul.

Saudi Arabia has long been criticized for its human rights record, with Amnesty International saying the state uses torture, arbitrary arrests and detainment, and violation of the rights to free speech and free assembly.

Despite criticism from human rights groups, Saudi Arabia continues to attract wealthy Western companies to invest in Neom.

I will transform Twitter – Newly appointed CEO

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino has made a pledge to transform the micro-blogging platform.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Yaccarino made the pledge while disclosing that she has long been inspired by the vision of Twitter owner, Elon Musk.

“I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together,” the new Twitter CEO tweeted.

It was the first time Yaccarino spoke publicly since the news broke Thursday that she was in talks to become the next CEO of Twitter.

Musk, who has served as CEO since his $44 billion buyout of Twitter last October, announced her appointment on Friday.

Yaccarino was advertising chief for Comcast Corp’s NBCUniversal, where she spent several years modernising its ad business.

Yaccarino will take over a social media platform that has been trying to reverse a plunge in ad revenue and is beset with challenges, along with a heavy debt load.

  • Elon Musk Shakes Up Twitter: Linda Yaccarino Takes Charge as New CEO

Elon Musk Shakes Up Twitter: Linda Yaccarino Takes Charge as New CEO

In a surprising move, Elon Musk announced on Friday that he has appointed Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter.

Yaccarino, who was most recently the Chairman of Advertising Sales and Client Partnerships at NBCUniversal, will take over from Jack Dorsey, who stepped down from the role earlier this year.

Musk, who is known for his interest in social media and has a massive following on Twitter, tweeted the news on Friday, saying, “Just want to say that Linda Yaccarino is going to do a great job as CEO of Twitter. She’s smart, tough, and has the experience to take the company to the next level.”

Yaccarino, who has worked at NBCUniversal for over 30 years, is widely respected in the media industry for her leadership and strategic thinking. Under her leadership, NBCUniversal became the first media company to sell more than $1 billion in digital advertising in a single year.

In a statement, Yaccarino said she was excited to take on the new role and to work with Musk to drive growth and innovation at Twitter. “Twitter is one of the most influential and important social media platforms in the world, and I am honored to have been chosen to lead it at this critical time,” she said.

The appointment of Yaccarino comes as Twitter faces growing competition from other social media platforms, including Facebook and TikTok. The company has also been under pressure to address issues such as misinformation and harassment on its platform.

Musk, who has been a vocal critic of Twitter in the past, has also been a frequent user of the platform, often using it to announce new products and make controversial statements.

Some industry analysts have raised concerns about the appointment of Yaccarino, noting that she has little experience in the technology industry. However, others have praised Musk for choosing someone with a strong track record in media and advertising.

It remains to be seen what changes Yaccarino will make at Twitter and how she will work with Musk to shape the company’s future. But one thing is clear: with these two powerful and influential figures at the helm, Twitter is sure to be in the spotlight in the coming months.

  • Twitter changes logo to Dogecoin and Elon Musk explains why

Twitter changes logo to Dogecoin and Elon Musk explains why

Twitter changed its traditional blue bird logo Monday morning to mimic the logo of a popular cryptocurrency – an image of a dog that featured in viral memes.

The microblogging platform’s homepage and loading screen was replaced with the shiba inu image associated with the Dogecoin memecoin cryptocurrency.

The logo change has caused the dogecoin (DOGE), which is the eighth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization to surge by 30 per cent.

Twitter’s original blue bird logo is called “Larry T Bird,” and it was inspired by NBA legend and Hall-of-Famer Larry Bird.

There was no formal announcement of the logo change, and people suspected Elon Musk was behind it due to his fondness for the famous Shiba Inu meme.

Musk joked about the logo change by sharing a meme that has more than 586, 000 likes and 71,000 retweets.

Then, in another tweet, he shared a screenshot of an old conversation with a user who asked him to “buy Twitter and change the bird logo to a doge”. He said in the tweet it’s done “as promised”.

It is, however, uncertain how long the Doge logo will last as the change has been met with mixed reactions and has become a topic of conversation on the platform.

The logo change also comes at a time when blue checkmark verifications may disappear for Twitter users who do not pay a fee.
