Gov Sani revives Kaduna road abandoned for 13 years

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the construction of the Karatudu-Romi road in Chikun Local Government Area, 13 years after the project was abandoned.

Performing the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday in Kaduna, Sani said the road was initially awarded during the administration of the late Gov. Patrick Yakowa but was stalled after his death.

The Governor described the project as a critical infrastructure that would benefit the people of Karatudu and Unguwan Romi communities.

“Our administration is prioritising rural development and focusing on areas where the less privileged reside,” Sani said.

He assured that the road would be completed within eight months, stating that a reputable contractor had been engaged and would mobilise to site immediately.

“Our government keeps to its promises. We do not play politics of deceit. We focus on verifiable, impactful projects,” he said.

Sani disclosed that his administration had so far awarded over 83 road contracts across the state, with 31 already completed.

He criticised some politicians for abandoning the area in the past, saying they were now returning to seek political relevance without delivering meaningful projects.

The governor explained that the Karatudu-Romi project would include several adjoining township roads, such as Cemetery Road, Lusawa Road, School Road to Karatudu, and Jemaa Road.

He added that another ongoing road project from Keke to Makera, and Doka Mai Jemaa to Dan Hono in Kujama Ward, was also being executed in Chikun LGA.

Sani said the Water Intake Road from Unguwan Mai Gero to Narayi had been completed and inauguratesd.

He further disclosed that construction would soon commence on the road linking Zenith Bank Roundabout on Kachia Road to the Flour Mill area, connecting Chikun and Kaduna South LGAs.

The governor also revealed that funds had been released for the construction of the long-abandoned Television-Kaduna Garage-Sabon Tasha Road, which links four electoral wards.

Boko Haram is more of an ideological issue – Kaduna gov, Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani has stated that Boko Haram insurgency is more of an ideological issue rathen the situation in the North West.

Sani revealed that instead of compensating the perpetrators of violence, his administration has focused on supporting the victims.

The governor spoke on Thursday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.

Sani noted that the insecurity plaguing the North-West is largely driven by economic factors, unlike the ideological underpinnings of Boko Haram in the North-East.

Responding to earlier criticisms that he was allegedly trying to negotiate with or pay bandits, Sani said such accusations contradict his long-standing advocacy for justice.

He said: “Looking at security issues we just have to sit down and analyse what are the symptoms and the drivers of insecurity. I agree with you that Boko Haram is more of an ideological issue. But when you are talking about insurgency in the North West it’s an economic matter. That’s why when we came in, I said, look, we can’t resolve it with kinetic approach only.

“When I started, a lot of people were criticising me saying ‘you are trying to pay bandits’. But I told them a man who fought for justice and for the downtrodden can’t sit down with the bandit and pay him.

“So they were surprised only two weeks ago when I came up with my own programme, where I gave houses to the victims of insurgency instead of compensating or giving anything to the bandits. I haven’t given one naira to the bandits but I have built houses for the victims of banditry in Kaduna state.”
