    (ICYMI)2023: PDP names Sokoto Gov, Tambuwal Campaign Council DG

    The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has released a list of members of its Presidential Campaign Council.

    Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was named the Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign which has Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde of Bauchi and Oyo States as Vice Chairmen, North and South respectively.

    This committee has four directorates headed by Deputy Directors General. They are: Sen. Liyel Imoke (Opperations), Prof. Adewale Oladipo (Admin), Raymond Dokpesi (Technical and Systems) and Okwesileze Nwodo (Research and Strategy).

    Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike whose name appeared as number 13 on the list, was named along with most of his associates as a member.

    The list consists of the names of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, serving as well as former State Governors of the party, former Ministers, all former Senate Presidents of the party who are still members of the PDP, members of the Board of Trustees among otters.
    Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekwerenmadu also made the list. Former National Chairmen of the party, Vincent Ogbulafor and Ahmadu Ali were also named as members.

    Gov Udom splashes N100m, one plot of land each for title-winning Akwa United team

    Governor Emmanuel Udom has promised a reward of N100m to Akwa United for their title-winning feat in the last Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

    The Akwa Ibom governor said this during a reception for the team at the Government House in Uyo on Thursday.

    “I just want to say thank you for making the state proud. Becoming champions is a thing of joy to all Akwa Ibomites. Keep that winning flag flying and we will continue to support the team to succeed,” he said, in addition to giving a plot of land to each member of the team and a brand new 32 seater Coaster bus.

    “You have gone to the top, you have to redouble your effort this new season to ensure you remain at the top, once again congratulations for winning the league title”.

    Aside from the governor, the Chairman of the club, Paul Bassey, was also on ground and appreciated the Akwa Ibom leader for his gesture.

    According to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Sports, the club is determined to defend the trophy.

    “A little over six years in the saddle, Akwa United established 24 years ago, won three major trophies in 2015, 2017 and the historic league trophy this year 2021,” he added.

    “Your Excellency, thank you, your tireless and unrelenting funding of development potential in our youths have in the recent years brought about a total explosion of talents in all the broad fields of sports.

    “The entire Akwa United family is determined to march out and defend the trophy we won last year this coming season”.

    Udom rejigs cabinet, drops Justice Commissioner who just bagged SAN

    Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel has dropped from his cabinet the newly appointed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Nwoko and 71 others were last year (December) sworn-in as SANs.

    However, Nwoko, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the current administration, was not reappointed along with three others.

    He has been replaced by another SAN, Uko Essien Udom.

    This is the third time Emmanuel is rejigging his State Executive Council since assumption of office in 2015.

    The governor while swearing in of four newly appointed commissioners and five permanent secretaries at the banquet hall of the Governor’s Office on Monday charged them to put the interest of the state first.

    Those sworn-in as Commissioners included: Uko Udom SAN, Dr. John James Edet, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet and Pastor Umo Eno. The five Permanent Secretaries on the other hand included: Mr. Ini James Ikie, Dr. Ini Jackson Etukudo, Mrs. Esther Aniekan Inyang, Mrs. Grace Paulinus Jim and Mrs. Abasiekeme Victor Essien.

    He charged the newly sworn-in commissioners on diligent service in the discharge of their duties, adding that they should shun self-aggrandizement but to work always in the interest of the 7.2 million Akwa Ibom people who they have sworn to serve.

    He advised them not to be deterred by criticisms from different quarters but to bring to bear their wealth of experience as expressed in their resume in their contributions towards the success of the Completion Agenda.

    ”We join all right thinking Akwa Ibom people to congratulate the newly appointees and wish them success in their new offices,” the governor said.

    Governor Udom Emmanuel on Saturday commissioned a new secretariat for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom state.

    The national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus and other party leaders were also on ground to witness the commissioning.

    The commissioning came a day after, Obong Hon. Udo Loyalty Ekpenyong emerged as the new Chairman for the state.

    Ekpeyong’s election took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

     

  • Coronavirus:Akwa Ibom to deploy 13 ventilators – Udom

    Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has stated that the South-South state is well-equipped with health facilities to contain COVID-19 emergencies.

    Udom made this known on Wednesday during a visit to the Intensive Care Unit/Isolation Facility at the Multi-Specialty Hospital in the state.

    This was shortly before the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced the first five coronavirus cases in the state.

    The governor said, “I am not just here to check the scale of preparedness but to also make sure what we put on ground works and works well.

    “At times what people assume are working well are not until they are put to test before they know whether they are functional or not.

    “I came in with the experts to take a look, to see whether they are working well or not.

    “As at now, all the whole 13 ventilators will be tested to make sure they are working well.

    “I have ordered more beds and an 20 extra facilities to accommodate emergencies.”

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan alongside his wife, Patience, on Saturday attended the funeral service of Late Elder Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang, father of Gov. Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom Ibom State.

    The service was conducted by the United Evangelical Church/Qua Iboe Church, Awa-Iman, Onna Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

    Born on May 7, 1929, Nkanang passed on Dec. 1, 2019, at the age of 90.

    Serving governors present included Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Ben Ayade of Cross River, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Abubakar Bello of Niger and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto States.

    Other Governors that attended the service were Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Nyesom Nwike of Rivers States, respectively.

    The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and immediate past Senate President, Bukola Saraki, were also at the event.

    The event also attracted former governors, members of the political class, members of the judiciary and members of the National Assembly, including former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

    Members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, clergies and traditional rulers also put in appearance including the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.

    Supreme Court upholds Abiodun, Udom, six other governors election

    The Apex Court has upheld the re-election of Aminu Masari of Katsina State and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom State and the elections of six other governors on Wednesday.

    In the case of Katsina State, Justice Iyang Okoro, held that the appellant, Senator Garba Lado of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Masari did not qualify to participate in the election.

    Similarly, the Supreme Court sealed the re-election of Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of Akwa-Ibom State.

    In his ruling, Justice Datijp Muhammad held that the appeal by Mr Nsima Ekere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacked merit and is dismissed.

    The six other governors whose elections were upheld are:

    Dapo Abiodun (Ogun)

    Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa)

    David Umahi (Ebonyi)

    Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos)

    Seyi Makinde (Oyo)

    Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna)

    Father of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel is dead.

    Pa Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang, was said to have died on Sunday, according to Emmanuel’s aide, Aniekeme Finbarr.

    Nkanang died on Sunday at the age of 90.

    “Gabriel Nkanang, the eldest son of the late Nkanang, has been authorised by the family to make public the news of his death,” the statement said.

    “Burial arrangements will be announced by the family,” it added.

  • Police seal Governor Udom’s church in Akwa Ibom, gives reasons

    The police in Akwa Ibom have explained why they sealed up Qua Iboe church along No 112 Ikot Ekpene road on Sunday where Governor Udom Emmanuel worships.

    The state Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed said the sealing of the church was to avert a clash among worshippers over the change name from Qua Iboe to United Evangelical Church.

    He also regretted that the action of his men had led to some worshippers sustaining varying degrees of injury.

    Ahmed said the police were alerted of the plan by a faction in the ongoing crisis to factions to foment rouble and decided to seal the church to prevent further break down of law and order.

    He said” police seal the church to prevent crisis. Last Sunday there was a crisis among the worshippers in which many people were injured. We got information that a faction of the church was coming there to cause trouble, so our officers were there to prevent further clash”.

    It was gathered that the police arrived the church premises as early as 6 am and barricaded the entrance, preventing early the morning worshipers from going in to worship.

    Governor Udoma Emmanuel and some prominent members of the church were allegedly accused of having personal interest in the matter rocking the church.

    But speaking on Sunday, against the backdrop of insinuations, the Governor declared that he has no personal interest in the crisis, adding that he was rather committed to ensuring that peace return to
    the United Evangelical Church which was originally founded as Qua Iboe Church.

    Governor Emmanuel who said he has been making progress in bringing peace and harmony between the two contending parties urged agents of blackmail to direct their miss-applied talents elsewhere.

    He said “It is very wrong for certain elements to make unfounded allegations concerning my role in the local assembly on Ikot Ekpene road,” said the Governor at a peace parley with the two parties.

    “In a peace meeting I had with the leadership of the church on Thursday, September 26, I had outlined the processes and plans for peace to return to the both the local and the national leadership of the church.

    “The parties were very satisfied with the plans outlined and went back very happy. Very soon, we hope to see the full restoration of peace and understanding between the two groups.

    “I think it is sad and unfortunate for some people to exploit the matter and make unfounded allegations against me.” Governor Emmanuel added.

    Amidst political speculations and postulations against 2023, Governor Udom Emmanuel has diffused plan to seek third term using a surrogate as a successor.

    The Governor cleared the air while interacting with the leadership and some members of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, foremost socio cultural organization of the Ibibio youths, that stormed Government House gate to herald his arrival following his victory at the Governorship petitions tribunal.

    “I usually hear people saying he has anointed someone who will take over from him so that he can be able to manipulate the person to do his bidding after leaving office, I want to assure you that it is not true”

    “As I Speak, it is only God who knows who my successor will be. When He presents him, we will support him to also succeed,” the Governor said.

    He used the opportunity to commend Mboho for the role it has played in maintaining peace in our dear state. The peace of Akwa Ibom State will never be shaken” Mr. Emmanuel added

    Mr. Emmanuel whose arrival from Abuja was greeted by different crowds of supporters right from the airport through to the city center, thanked all Akwa Ibomites and the Association for their surprise welcome

    He appreciated the Mboho for uniting in support to him, despite all odds, during the election, and urged them to continue supporting his administration to achieve the completion agenda.

    Earlier, the President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akpawara Patrick Edwin Udofia said the association came to register their goodwill to the State Chief Executive on his second term confirmation by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

    Meanwhile, thousands of youths, women groups, members of the political class and the state executive council members thronged the Victor Attah International Airport to celebrate with the Governor on the victory at the Election Petition Tribunal.

    Among the dignitaries to receive the Governor who arrived the state from an official function in Abuja, were the Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo, the chairman PDP Obong Paul Ekpo,Secretary to state govt. Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Head of service, Elder Effiong Essien among other Exco members.

    Reacting to the verdict, Governor Emmanuel dedicated the Victory to Only God and Akwa Ibom people for the love demonstrated at the polls and affirmed by the Judiciary.

    He said that his administration is committed to deliver on the Campaign promise of an economic and socially viable state bonded in love and unity.

    The State chief executive said he is passionate about youth employment, industrialization, Education and infrastructure across the length and breadth of the state.
    He thanked the people for the show of love and the judiciary for being the last hope of the common man by upholding the Truth.
