    GOVERNMENT OF AKWA IBOM STATE

    PUBLIC NOTICE
REVIEW OF CURFEW -DUSK TO DAWN (8pm – 7am)TILL FURTHER NOTICE

As promised by His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel during his broadcast yesterday, the State security architecture has comprehensively assessed the prevailing security temperature in the State, which was raised by hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS peaceful demonstration and observed as follows:

    1. That though normalcy has returned to the entire State, especially, Uyo the capital city after the expiration of the curfew which was imposed from Thursday night till Saturday morning, there is a prevailing need to sustain the gains of the curfew, by increased strategic surveillance and holistic law enforcement.

    2. That the recovery of looted items currently being executed by the Police is the result of the cooperation and collaboration of informants from the communities.

To this end, the Governor has directed that, effective today, a daily dusk to dawn (8pm~7am) curfew be imposed State-wide, till further notice, to help check the movement of the remnants of the undesirable elements who created chaos in our State few days ago. It is also the Governor’s directive, gleaned from the agreement by all youth groups in the State, that all demonstrations and protests be suspended forthwith.

For emphasis, there will be absolute cessation of movement of persons except those on essential duty, who must bear proper identification. Any person who is apprehended within the period of the curfew will be arrested and prosecuted.

Additionally, citizens are advised to report any suspicious movement of items suspected to be loots from the raid on business premises, or the assembly of strange or known persons, suspected to be plotting an attack on private or public property, to the security operatives, or call our information hotlines 08129778512, 09018596989.

Emmanuel extends curfew in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel has extended the statewide curfew slated to end by 12noon to 7am on Saturday.

The Governor said the extension was due to emerging situations monitored by security agencies and the needs to protect lives and property of residents.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for information and Strategy, said: ”Due to developing situations being monitored by the state government and security agencies and the inevitable need to protect citizens and property, based on overriding the public interest, His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has extended the curfew, which was initially due to expire by noon of 23rd October, 2020 till 7am on Saturday, 24th October , 2020. This curfew has statewide effect.

”Expectedly, there will be a total cessation of movement, except for those on essential duties, who must show a proper identification. All law abiding citizens are advised to remain at home, as security agencies have been briefed to strictly enforce this order”.

Meanwhile, Speaker Aniekan Bassey has condemned Thursday evening killing of #EndSARS protesters in Uyo.

He also deplored the wanton destruction of public and private properties by hoodlums under the guise of #EndSARS protests.

”On behalf of the leadership and members of the Seventh Assembly, I join millions of Nigerians to condemn the killing of innocent and unarmed youths who were exercising their constitutional right to protest and demand for good governance and better life.

”I also condemn in strong terms the act of intimidating our people, destroying and burning of public and private properties in parts of Uyo, looting of business premises and other acts of criminality perpetrated by hoodlums in the guise of #EndSARS protest.

”These were not parts of the demands of the #EndSARS protest and will only worsen our woes. There were avoidable tragedies if Mr. President had addressed the concerns of the youths early enough.

”I deeply sympathize with families of the slain heroes and pray for speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the course of the peaceful protest. My heart is also with those who lost material possessions, buildings and businesses.

”I charge the youths to exercise restraint and allow measures put in place by government to prevail. Please give peace a chance while making your legitimate demands. We cannot afford to support more losses”, he said.

  • I won’t allow cultists succeed me as governor in 2023 – Udom

I won’t allow cultists succeed me as governor in 2023 – Udom

Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has promised not to seek a third term through surrogates.

He vowed to crush cultism and never allow a cultist succeed him.

The governor spoke on Sunday at an interactive session.

He said: “For peace to reign and for Christ to have control, I am not interested in third term through a surrogate, the only thing you can do is to ensure that no cultist is allowed to become governor.

“Some council areas are highly volatile so if they nominate a cultist we would not permit such. Any cultist arrested would not be released.

“The only way to ensure peace is to make a way to eradicate cultism. Some cult groups are clashing in some areas and we have tried to crush them; we will stop at nothing to win the battle.

“It is not our intention to deploy soldiers in volatile areas but you are forcing us to do so. Please parents admonish your children; they gain nothing from cultism. The whole village cannot run away because of one man. Most armed robbers and kidnappers are cultists and we will crush them.”

Unemployment: Akwa Ibom Governor cries foul of NBS rating

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has challenged the protocols and parameters used by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to arrive at the conclusion that the State was the second largest in terms of unemployment.

Emmanuel, in an interactive session with Akwa ibom people in Uyo on Sunday, asked that he should be spared the distraction from NBS as he remains focused in the discharge of quality and excellent services to Akwa Ibom people.

Recall that the NBS said that Imo state with 48.7 per cent unemployment rate was the highest in the country, followed by Akwa Ibom with the second highest unemployment of 55.2 percent in its recent report on August 14.

The bureau said that Anambra recorded the lowest rate of unemployment at 13.1 per cent.

According to the Governor, Akwa Ibom is second in foreign direct investment, noting that every part of the State is a construction site, and he wondered what people would describe as employment.

“It is the same statistics they reeled out before the 2019 elections; may be NBS had forgotten that the elections are over.

“Statistics has procedures and approaches. How did they arrive at their sample size. They don’t even know the population of Nigeria.

“It is questionable to see an Igbo state have the highest level of unemployment. The fastest way to stimulate the economy is investment in industries.

“Do you know how many workers we have under Ibom Air, both direct and indirect?,” Emmanuel asked.

The Governor also acknowledged the feedback received from members of the public in the fight against COVID 19, as well as the distribution of palliatives to the people of the state.

He, however, urged Akwa Ibomites to continue observing all the COVID 19 protocols.

On the demand by the people for the reopening of schools, the governor said, the Federal Government had the final say on reopening of schools.

“Once they give the go ahead on that, we will ring the bell and schools will open,’’ the governor said.

Emmanuel denied plotting a third term in office through a surrogate and vowed never to allow any cultist take over the reins of governance from him in 2023.

“I am not interested in third term through a surrogate; the only thing you can help to do is to ensure that no cultist is allowed to emerge as Governor of the state.

“Some Council areas are highly volatile, so if they nominate a cultist, we shall not permit such. Any cultists arrested would not be released,” Emmanuel said.

He observed that the only way to ensure peace was to eradicate cultism and if you want to ensure peace, look up to God in order to embrace peace.

“Some cult groups are clashing in some parts of the state and we have tried to make sure we crush them. We will stop at nothing in ensuring we crush cultism in the state.

“It is not our intention to deploy soldiers to volatile areas and you are forcing us to do so. Please let parents talk to their children, as they stand to gain nothing from cultism.

“It can’t be that because of one man the whole village would run away. It is time to go the right way. Most armed robbers and kidnappers are cultists and we will crush them,” he said.

Emmanuel also explained why he is opening up more internal roads in Akwa Ibom, saying that it would allow for ease of transport and movement of goods and services.

He admitted that the lockdown caused by COVID 19 had affected the completion time of these projects but stated emphatically that the roads would be completed in good time as government and governance was a continuum.

The Governor maintained that the intervention of his Administration in every sector of the state was wholesale.

He assured that pensions and gratuities would continue to receive the rapid attention they are presently receiving.

  • Edo 2020: Obaseki makes another move, visits Gov Udom in Uyo

Edo 2020: Obaseki makes another move, visits Gov Udom in Uyo

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, following his visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, moved on Sunday to also visit the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Governor Udom received Governor Obaseki at the Government House, Uyo, capital of the State.

While the details of Obaseki’s visit to the Governors of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governor are yet to be ascertained, the embattled Edo State Governor had said he will be making his next move known after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Obaseki made this known on Sunday via Twitter shortly after news emerged that he was in Rivers State to visit Governor Nyesom Wike.

Obaseki, who is seeking a second term in office, and who was recently disqualified from participating in the gubernatorial primary by the All Progressives Congress (APC), also said he is still consulting with his supporters on his next move.

“I appreciate the sustained show of solidarity, support and goodwill from Edo people and Nigerians in the face of injustice by the All Progressives Congress screening committee. I will be making my next move known after I complete consultations with my supporters and meet with President Muhammadu Buhari,” Obaseki said.

These recent visitations may not be unconnected with Obaseki’s rumoured defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to be able to contest the Edo State gubernatorial election billed for September 19 under the party.

  • Why I Love Governor Udom Emmanuel, By Udeme Nana

It’s a milestone season and it is usual for one to take stock. Some would review and measure different eras , different persons and styles with a view to handing down verdicts. Others might focus on key performance indices as a basis for their judgements while a biased columnist like me , an incurable optimist and positivist would characteristically look at the beautiful side of the moon , always.
One would like to start by way of a full disclosure.I did not start out as one of his fans simply because the
medium of his arrival at the Hilltop mansion did not amuse me at all.One was alarmed and miffed by the fact that his ‘political father’ , perceived rightly or wrongly as the worst nightmare ever experienced in reality by discerning minds brought him into the saddle. But as days turned into weeks , weeks into months and months into years , I, like others, had what could be likened to the ‘Saul on the way to Damascus’ experience !
One realized that there are instances where a child who lost his way in the family has sired a reputable Reverend Father. One has also seen the son of an unapologetic witch – doctor become a fire eating Christian Evangelist winning souls for Christ. To stretch those examples , one’s eyes opened on a discovery that a thorough and an objective close reading of the genealogy of The Lord Jesus Christ traced his family tree to Rahab , a practitioner of the legendary oldest profession in the world !.
Now the assignment is for our fathers of faith and religious scholars to determine if the verdict of The Lord Jesus Christ “let him who has no sin cast the first stone’ had anything to do with the Lord Jesus Christ’s consciousness of that famous ‘family’ background.
The lesson there is that good could come from bad just as the worst could come straight from the loins of the best.Such is life !
Definitely ,this explains why the Governor has briddled his tongue against talking about the world heavy , neck – breaking debt burden which has put a leash on his development agenda ?
From my observatory, one is cock – sure that if Governor Emmanuel spilled the beans on the mindless financial recklessness and mess which pressed him down from the beginning and which still hangs on his neck like an albatross, most Akwa Ibom people would gladly pick up stones and head in search of his ‘political father’ to punish him for financial indiscretions.
So firstly , I love him for carrying that heavyweight financial sins graciously like a good political son. It is an uncommon display of courage and loyalty because its not a light and easy load trying to grapple with such empty shells like that football pitch along Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard , which most people wrongly call an International stadium. There is much more to a standard stadium than a football pitch. The 4 – Point Sheraton , the Ibom Specialist Hospital, the Tropicana and cinemaplex, Conference Centre and 5 – star hotel in that location , unpaid gratuities and the Uyo – Ikot Ekpene highway to mention but a few that only people outside government can see.
Another action which has endeared the Governor to me was his decision to grant my own political father , Obong Attah, the father of modern Akwa Ibom State, that old man’s greatest wish in his lifetime. In renaming the Akwa Ibom Airport in honour of Obong Attah , the man who envisioned and put it on the ground , Governor Udom Emmanuel can do no wrong where I sit in judgement. That decision showed love, sowed love , respect and was a display of statesmanship which Governor Emmanuel would also harvest in due season.
Let me be personal in a moment ; the Ikpe Ikot Nkon – Arochukwu road project in INI , my Local government area of origin had defied all previous efforts to construct before now , but with its construction by Governor Emmanuel, there is a fresh breath in the entire landscape. The rice and cocoa farms in that food basket community had existed as tales told many times across generations since the collapse of the Eastern region but as one writes , there is a resurgence and a motivation to embrace Agriculture. The Governor has also solved an age – long political problem there too by giving my ODORO – IKONO homestead , a much marginalised locality in INI , a deserving clan of its own.Although the ‘INI proper’ indigenes have cornered all the major political positions for themselves , someday a Daniel will come to judgement on that matter.
As a public servant , one is much in love with Governor Udom Emmanuel for being workers friendly.People forget too soon. There was an era with so much money but salaries were paid sometimes two weeks into a new month. Under the present administration, workers get paid as at when due.Like the transportation system in developed countries ; salary “alerts” are ‘on time’ or as Lawyers would put it , ‘timeous’ !
The impact of this policy of making workers salaries the first monthly expenditure includes better planning, workers can borrow and pay back on schedule .They can buy on credit and pay at month end. This has restored the self respect of workers , their dignity and integrity. There are more things to a happier life but those little things matter as they engender a more peaceful , relaxed and sunnier existence.
A transformation which a lot of folks still find difficult to come to terms with is the inflow of foreign direct investment , (FDI) into the state under the watch of the Governor. The questions people ask are the benefiting sectors , the total worth in United States Dollars or Naira and kobo , origin of the inflows and the reasons for the welcome development. It is pertinent to underscore that serious global investors constitute a cartel and being human beings , they also whisper among themselves; they gossip , they share information , experiences and fears. They do serious background checks on leaders and prospective environments which beckon to them and apart from infrastructure, they look at security , corporate governance issues and tax regimes. They look at ‘ease of doing business’ issues. Perception is now a huge capital which ranks very high on decisions regarding the most conducive location to venture into and to this writer , Governor Udom Emmanuel ticks right in all the considerations which investors consider.
The Ibom Airline ,The Syringe and Electricity meter companies are laudable initiatives of the Governor.
It was Peter Thiel and Blake Masters who wrote that ‘every moment in business happens only once. The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergy Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zukerberg won’t create a social network” .
Their argument is that others who would come after those ones would have models and examples to build on and that it is much easier to build on an existing foundation than to create something completely new ; out of nothing.
This writer sees Governor Emmanuel as one who has created entirely new landmarks from absolutely nothing – the aforementioned industries and several others including the Fertiliser and Flour firms , the glittering 21 – storey smart office complex, the world class isolation facility at Methodist Hospital , Ituk Mbang. Indeed , his regime has restored Akwa Ibom as an oasis of peace in the South South zone of Nigeria.
This Columnist celebrates Governor Udom Emmanuel, a Church centred leader for banning cult groups which wreaked unconscionable violence across the state. He has steered the state away from a ‘point and kill’ era where human life was so cheap and the common question on the lips of everyone was ‘who is it this time’.
Yes , I love the Governor because like me , he is a man of peace.Another full disclosure here ; I am also ‘Church centred’ !
The Governor’s prudence comes with the territory given his professional training and work experience. His insistence on value for money may not sit well with professional politicians but those of us who are professionals know that money must be earned as money not earned loses value and is easily wasted on frivolities.
Nevertheless, much as one loves him , one implores him to make sure that he completes the second and third ring roads and the Nnung – Oku Ikono fly – over and highway to Etinan including infrastructures in Eket. The post Covid – 19 economy would try his soul and capacity but his professional background makes him the man for this time . He should also perish the idea of a reduction of workers salaries because mopping the increases will not boost the revenue profile of the state drastically. Rather , leaving that item would endear him to the largest segment of Akwa Ibom people . Afterall, the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state has also increased in leaps.
His fairlure to complete and showcase Ring roads 2 and 3 projects would dent his legacy. It would have been better if he did not start work on them than leave them uncompleted. That is a tough call indeed.
However , a toast to him on his Fifth anniversary is that God should help him to ‘see’ more clearly so he doesn’t become a lameduck with a feet of clay as he embarks on his home run.

  • Akwa Ibom Govt. intercepts 68 suspected COVID-19 patients at border

Akwa Ibom Government says it has intercepted 68 suspected COVID-19 patients at the border, invading the state.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel made the disclosure when he played host to State Caucus of the National Assembly in Uyo on Sunday.

According to the governor, they tried to bring in about 68 of them. So you can imagine if they were allowed to come in.

“We got the information on time, so I used the police to intercept them; apart from that, I think so far, the curve has decline drastically,” he said.

“The intelligence gathering approach is deployed by Akwa Ibom Government to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The approach has paid off for the state as the technique has enabled us foil the attempt of 68 suspected COVID-19 patients invading the state,” Emmanuel said.

The National Assembly members were in the state for a tour of the newly constructed Isolation Centre at Ituk Mbang.

The Isolation Centre was for Quarantine, Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases located within the premises of Methodist General Hospital, Ituk Mbang in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The governor said that it was gathered that the suspects mainly from distant states were liaising with their collaborators within the state to come into the state.

Emmanuel noted that they wanted to take advantage of the robust healthcare system designed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

According to him, the graph of the spread of the virus has taken a downward curve indicating a sharp decline in recorded cases of the virus in the state.

“I have text messages where people were trying to communicate with their colleagues here and those colleagues encouraged them to move into the state with the assurance that people are better treated here,” the governor said.

He also said the suspects attempted to enter the state through unconventional borders and were apprehended.

“Yesterday, we got a call from one village in Etinan Local Government Area that somebody has sneaked into the state.

“People even enter through water and when they come in, they declare themselves to be having symptoms so we can pick them up for treatment because they hear testimonies and even calling people to confirm.

“Our Isolation Centre should be as good as where any national assembly person should stay. So, we have tried to make everybody comfortable,” Emmanuel said.

He decried attempts by people trying to invade the state, despite agreement reached at the Governors’ Forum that inter-state borders should be closed to passengers’ movements in the meantime as a measure to limit the spread of the virus.

“In terms of boundaries we are observing what every state in Nigeria is observing, it was agreed at the governor’s forum that we should restrict inter-state passengers movement for now until announced otherwise.

“So, let nobody misunderstand anybody, we don’t want people to start loading luxury buses and transmit the virus, even with that we are still having issues because of our long shoreline,” he said.

He, however, assured that the state government would continue to do more towards ensuring a better and robust post COVID-19 economy and medicare in the state.

Sen. Christopher Ekpeyong, representing Akwa Ibom North West, who spoke on behalf of the Lawmakers, said the state representatives in the National Assembly were proud of the State Governor and commended his drive towards mitigating the Coronavirus in the state.

Ekpeyong, the leader of the delegation, expressed delight at the progress of work at the new Isolation Centre.

He commended the proactive disposition of the governor in healthcare matters, stressing that God placed him on the saddle for times like this as he had been imbued to salvage the state from the the pandemic.

The Lawmakers donated N5 million to the State COVID-19 Management Committee to help in the fight against the spread of the pandemic.

  • No regrets picking Udom Emmanuel as successor – Akpabio

…says he does not regret dumping PDP for APC

Despite his current travails, Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district) says he has no regrets whatsoever over his recent political decisions.

He specifically said he has no regrets leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC) and his choice of Governor Udom Emmanuel as his successor in 2015.

According to him, he took the decisions in the best interest of Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria as a whole and would make the same decisions all over again if need be.

Akpabio, who spoke to newsmen at his Ukana country home in Essien Udim local government area over the weekend, said he does not nurse any bitterness against those who may have betrayed him politically.

I have no regret choosing Udom Emmanuel as my successor. Like I always say, in 2015 I wasn’t looking for a governor for Godswill Akpabio. I was looking for a governor for Akwa Ibom people.

If Akwa Ibom people are happy with him (Udom Emmanuel), why not? And you know you have to bring out somebody that is presentable. And if you are going for a football match, you must select good players. So for me I don’t have any regret over Udom Emmanuel and I pray he does well for the state.

He has the opportunity of doing well for the benefit of Akwa Ibom state so I have no regret. And I also do not have any regret joining the APC, not a single regret. If I was to take a decision today, I will still go to the APC”, he said.

Akpabio maintained that he has no grudge or bitterness against those who have betrayed him politically, saying they were swayed by money rather than loyalty.

His words, ”People don’t understand that life is full of ups and downs. Life is not a straight line. If it is a straight line, it means you are dead. Even if you have a temporary setback, that shouldn’t make you exude bitterness or hate anybody”

He debunked the rumour that he was planning to return back to the PDP, insisting that he is very comfortable in the APC.

I can’t go back to the PDP. Why are you people listening to rumour? Why will I go back to the PDP when I am already getting entrenched in the APC? I am excited that the President won the election all over the country,” Akpabio said.

  • Gov. Emmanuel re-elected A’Ibom governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Gov. Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Akwa Ibom.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, who announced the result in Uyo on Monday, said that Gov. Emmanuel won in all the 31 local government areas of the state.

Orumwense said Emmanuel was re-elected governor having polled 519,712 votes. His main challenger, Mr Nsima Ekere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 171,978 votes.

Mr Emmanuel Nwankpa of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 2547 votes and Mr Ekene Uzodinma of the United Peoples Party (UPP) polled 1,476 votes.

Orumwense said that there were 2,119,727 registered voters in the state, with 720,064 voters accredited. He said 696,245 valid votes were recorded, while 15,792 votes were declared void.

He noted that the election was keenly contested, saying that 50 political parties contested for the governorship election in the state.

  • Gov. Emmanuel, ex-Minister speak on conduct of elections in Akwa Ibom

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for overcoming the card reader challenge that marred the Feb. 23, Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Emmanuel, who is seeking a second term tenure on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said INEC had improved in the use of the card reader during the Governorship/ Houses of Assembly elections in the state.

He made this known on Saturday while interacting with Newsmen in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

He said: “kudos to INEC for improving on the card reader system for clarification and authentication processes.

“I want to appreciate the Akwa Ibom people for coming out early today to cast their votes and to patiently wait for counting to begin.

“I think the accreditation and commencement of voting was early, so far so good, the authentication is a bit better today too, compared to the Feb. 23rd presidential/NASS polls.”

Meanwhile, Mr Nsima Ekere, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate has called on INEC to cancel the result of any polling unit where there was violence or hijacking of materials.

Ekere made this known shortly after he exercised his civic right at Edemeya ward 1, unit 004, Ikot Abasi Local government Area of Akwa Ibom State, around 10:49 am.

The APC candidate, who lamented the late arrival of election materials at his unit, also appealed to INEC to extend the period of voting in areas which had the same challenge.

“INEC should cancel election process anywhere there is violence or hijacking of materials.

“The election generally is peaceful, but it is unfortunate that materials arrived here late.

“INEC should make up for the delay by extending voting time anywhere we have such delays,” Ekere said.

He expressed hope that the APC would emerge victorious at the polls.

Also, Chief Nduese Essien, a former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, has lauded INEC for the smooth conduct of Saturday’s elections in the State.

Essien, a two term member of the House of Representatives, gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Ward 2, Ntaisip unit, Eket Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the commission had done well in terms of time.

“In terms of conduct of INEC staff, they have done very well and that can be ascribed to the Akwa Ibom REC, Mr Mike Ogini,” he said.

“I have found the atmosphere very conducive, peaceful and no controversies, the turnout is very impressive more than what we had in Feb. 23rd presidential/NASS polls because people are more relaxed to vote whom they want,” Essien said.

He attributed the massive turn out of voters to awareness amongst the people of the area.

He noted that the elections were now more orderly than it used to be because of the introduction of card readers and the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs.)

“That is why I begin to wonder why people will begin to think of snatching ballot boxes because snatched ballot boxes can not be returned to INEC office,” he said.

He said that “when Nigerians realise that there is no need for snatching ballot boxes, that is when we will have good elections in the country,” he said.

Essien alleged that the opposition wanted to create violence as a way of postponing the elections.

“Most of the plans they made are thwarted before today and thugs that they brought were arrested and the arrangement failed,” he alleged.
