Delta South: Uduaghan rejects re-run judgement, seeks outright declaration as senator-elect

    …Heads to Appeal Court

Former Delta State governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23rd, 2019 National Assembly election in Delta South, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has reacted to the Saturday’s ruling by the Election Petitions Tribunal which nullified the election victory of Senator James Manager of the Peoples Democratic Party and ordered for a re-run.

Uduaghan, reacting to the judgement, said the tribunal ought to have declared him as the outright winner of the Delta South election, and vowed to challenge the judgement at the Court of Appeal to be declared as senator-elect.

In a statement signed by his media assistant, Mr Monoyo Edoh, the former governor, however, thanked the tribunal for affirming that the election that produces Manager as senator was marred by massive rigging and othet electoral malpractices.

The Justice C.O Onyeaba-led Delta South Senatorial Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Asaba had on Saturday nullified the election victory of Senator Manager in the February 23, 2019 National Assembly Election in the area.

Uduaghan, while hailing the judgement, insisted that he won the Delta South Senatorial election with valid votes recorded during the election.

The tribunal panel consisting of Justice C.O Onyeaba, (Abia), Justice D. A. Oyegbemi (Nasarawa) and Justice S.N.J Usman (Kogi) established that there was substantial non-compliance with INEC electoral guidelines in some parts of Delta South Senatorial District and connivance among security agencies, staff of INEC and agents of the People’s Democratic Party to massively cause over voting in favour of the PDP candidate.

According to him, “While we are happy with the tribunal’s judgement which affirmed my party’s position that the election was rigged and characterized with electoral over voting, we are not entirely satisfied with the judgement as the tribunal ought to have deducted the excess illegal votes and declared me and my party rightful winner of the election.

“In view of this, we shall be challenging the tribunal’s judgement at the Appeal Court to declare us as the outight winner of the February 23rd, 2019 National Assembly Election for Delta South Senatorial District.”

The former governor in the statement thanked the people of Delta South and supporters, whom he said had been waiting for the outcome of the judgement.

Uduaghan, however, dedicated the victory to the people of Delta South assuring of victory at the Court of Appeal.

Delta South Senate: I’ll sponsor bills to legalise local refineries – Uduaghan

Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta South Senatorial District, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has promised to work towards the enactment of a law legalising local refineries, if elected.
The former governor of Delta State said this on his verified Facebook page. In his words: “About 6,000 illegal refineries operational in the country, were reportedly destroyed by the Joint Military Task Force, JTF, in 2015.
“Some of these refineries were actually glorified rickety science projects. There is likelihood that there will be a good number of well set up refineries among them.
“The illegal refinery industry has been around for years and has grown. Can a country that is struggling to operate its four legal refineries afford to destroy illegal refineries?
“The poorly set up makeshift contraptions are dangerous and should be done away with, but the youths should be engaged in proper refineries.
“This is the origin of the call for the upgrade of the so-called illegal refineries, and if possible, they should be licensed.
“The illegal refineries that are being destroyed offer a lot of employment to the youths.
“Is the government not simply shortchanging the country with the sustained posturing and grandstanding of describing the local refineries in the Niger Delta as illegal and criminalizing their operations?’’ the former governor disclosed.
