    EPL: Why we lost 3-2 to Manchester United – Aston Villa coach, Unai Emery

    Unai Emery the coach of Aston Villa has reacted to his side’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

    The Midlands club had gone two goals up at Old Trafford, thanks to John McGinn and Leandra Dendoncker.

    However, United’s second half performance saw them secure maximum points after three comeback goals with Alejandro Garnacho scoring twice and Hojlund scoring his first EPL goal.

    After the game, Emery said: “Disappointed. After the first half, 60 minutes more or less, we were in control of the game.

    “How we conceded, with the mistake in the middle, after it the crowd changes, the atmosphere is so much better for them, pushing them, the crowd goes up.

    “Even then we reacted, very good chances for John McGinn and Leon Bailey. Those were key moments as well.”

    EPL: Iheanacho set to join Aston Villa in January

     

    Nigerian  and Leicester city of England  attacking Midfielder, Kelechi Iheanacho could be on his way to Villa Park come January 2024.

    Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery will look to bring Kelechi Iheanacho to the Villa Park when the transfer window reopens in January.

    Iheanacho is yet to renew his contract with Sky Bet Championship club, Leicester City, is set to run out on June 30, 2024.

    The Nigerian is not likely to sign an extension and could leave on a free transfer next summer if Leicester City failed to sell him next month.

    Aston Villa, according to Football Insider, have identified Iheanacho and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner as potential targets.

    Iheanacho has notched six goals and two assists in 20 appearances for Leicester following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

    The 27-year-old was named in the Foxes matchday squad for the away win against Birmingham City on Monday night after missing the previous two games due to illness.

    Unai Emery, Aston Villa manager has explained why he snubbed Arsenal coaches after they won 1-0 on Saturday.

    John McGinn scored the only goal  in the 7th minute as Villa defeated Emery’s former club.

    Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta served a touchline ban for the game and in his absence assistant Albert Stuivenberg was in the dugout with information relayed down to him from the directors box via coach Carlos Cuesta, who had an earpiece.

    At full-time, Emery snubbed the customary handshake and opted to celebrate with Villa supporters near the touchline.

    When asked about the handshake snub and whether he approached any of Arsenal’s staff at full-time, Emery said: “No, because Arteta wasn’t on the bench.

    “I gave my hand to the workers inside because they were there when I was there, but only with the people I coached with and who worked with me.

    “There was nothing personal. It was because it wasn’t Arteta. I respect a lot Arsenal and Arteta. I respect a lot the workers there. I have nothing negative against them.”

    EPL: Unai Emery pencils down Samuel Chukwueze for Aston Villa

    Aston Villa’s new manager, Unai Emery has penciled down Super Eagles forward, Samuel Chukwueze for his  English Premier League side.

    Chukwueze played as a winger under Emery at Spanish La Liga side Villareal for many reasons.

    Reports say  Chukwueze is one of three Villarreal players that Emery is trying to bring to the Premier League in January.

    Chukuweze was/is  highly instrumental for Villareal’s as his contributions helped win laurels for the Spanish club side domestically and continentally.

    The left-footed player  contributed over  30 goals in all competitions since Emery took charge in 2020.

    The 23-year-old Nigerian international is  a regular for Villarreal and a key member behind the Yellow Submarine’s UEFA Europa League triumph in 2020 and their run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season.

    Chukwueze was a member of the Golden Eaglet side that won the Under 17- World Cup in 2015.

    Manchester United fell to a 3-1 defeat in the hands of Aston Villa in new manager Unai Emery’s first game in charge.

    Watkins maneuvered four Manchester united players in the middle before finding Ramsay who found Bailey and then scores after making pacy incursion into the United penalty area for Villa’s first goal.

    Mings slotted home a direct freekick beats De Gea convincingly in the 11th minute to send the spectator into a jubilant mood.

    Meanwhile respite came for United in the encounter when Shaw pops a shot in and it hits Ramsay and the deflection sees keeper Martinez have no chance of saving.

    Ramsay who got credited for Villa own’s goal made sure to compensate for it with a goal that ensured United is nailed to a defeat.

    Aston Villa earned three maximum points and moved up to 13 on the log with 15 points from 14 games.

    Spanish gaffer, Unai Emery replaces Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa

    Spanish gaffer, Unai Emery has been appointed the new Aston Villa manager in the English Premier League.

    Emery has said goodbye to his former club side Villareal in the Spanish La liga after spending three seasons with them.

    He was hired by Villarreal in July 2020, where he won the Europa League in his first season and guided the club to a Champions League semi-final run in the following season

    The Spaniard will replace Steven Gerrard who was sacked last week by the Premier League side Aston Villa over a poor return of results.

    This was confirmed by football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, on Monday night.

    Romano tweeted: “Aston Villa are now closing in on Unai Emery appointment, confirmed. Deal is considered set to be completed on a long-term project

    “Villarreal sources again think he’s gone, as reported earlier.

    “Villarreal, informed that €6m release clause will be activated by AVFC.”

    Emery has previously coached in England’s top flight. He replaced Arsene Wenger in 2018 and led Arsenal to a fifth place finish, missing out by a single point on automatic Champions League qualification.

    He was sacked in November 2019, before taking the Villarreal job in July 2020.

    Unai Emery said on Wednesday he has decided to stay at Villarreal, despite interest from Newcastle to appoint him as their new coach.

    Emery appeared open to a return to the Premier League on Tuesday night, when he admitted there had been “interest” from Newcastle. He added that if an offer arrived, he would speak to Villarreal president Fernando Roig.

    But the former Arsenal manager ruled out the possibility on Wednesday, confirming he will remain at Villarreal, where he is in his second season on the back of winning the Europa League last term.

    “No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my staff, which is the most it can be and for me the most important thing,” Emery said in a statement.

    “Villarreal is my home and I am 100 per cent committed. I am honestly grateful for the interest of a great club but even more grateful to be here and that is why I communicated to Fernando Roig my decision to continue being part of this project because of the commitment and respect that I have from the club and from my players, which is mutual.

    “I want to thank the fans for the support they have always shown me. On Sunday we have a very important game and I hope that all together we can get the victory. See you at la Ceramica.”

    Villarreal’s 2-0 victory over Young Boys on Tuesday put them in sight of the Champions League last 16.

    They are level on points with Manchester United and two ahead of Atalanta in Group F.

    Yet the team’s form in La Liga has been less impressive, with two wins from their opening 11 games this season leaving Villarreal 13th in the table.

    Newcastle have enormous financial backing following the club’s Saudi-backed takeover and are looking for a replacement for Steve Bruce, whom they sacked as coach last month.

    The team sit 19th in the Premier League and are yet to win this season.

    Villarreal coach Unai Emery is emerging as new favourite for the Newcastle United job.

    Sport1 says former Arsenal boss Emery has become the new favourite to take the job on Tyneside.

    Emery is under contract with Villarreal, who currently sit 13th in LaLiga, until 2023 but Newcastle, under their new mega-rich ownership, are reportedly prepared to pay a hefty fee to lure him back to the Premier League.

    The 49-year-old has already held top-flight positions, including PSG and Arsenal, with his greatest success coming at Sevilla where he won three Europa Leagues.

    Former Bundesliga manager Lucien Favre was also a name said to be on the table but the ex-Dortmund boss reportedly will not take the position.

    Villarreal manager Unai Emery insists his past at Arsenal is not important.

    Emery spent 18 months at the Gunners before being sacked in December 2018.

    The Spaniard will meet his former side in the Europa League semi-finals after the two sides won their quarter-finals on Thursday.

    “We are happy. It was a challenge, but the trajectory in the Europa League is being very serious and we are responding at a higher level every time,” Emery said.

    “We have taken the game where we feel more comfortable. We have [managed] it both here and in Zagreb.

    “It is a challenge, something that Villarreal has already done. Breaking the barrier of the semi-finals is the great challenge. The idea of reaching the Champions League through the Europa League is very important.

    “When I signed here this was [part of the process]. You have to live each moment. We are receiving people’s dream. The dream increases. My past at Arsenal is less important.”

    Emery responds to Man Utd, Liverpool links with Chukwueze

    Villarreal boss Unai Emery has spoken about the future of winger Samuel Chukwueze.

    The Nigerian is becoming a hot property around Europe and is someone who many top clubs are following.

    The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with him for a January or summer transfer.

    Emery spoke about the player’s future during a press conference in midweek.

    He said: “We are happy with Samuel Chukwueze, he’s growing up here with us and his performances are getting better little by little but above all we want to achieve with him our objectives with his skills, his capacity.

    “He is young and he has a very good future and then trying to add his performances for our team, for the national team, maybe in the future he can go to another league to grow up more but I think he’s very happy here with us, and every match with him is very important to try to get best performance with him.”
