    Nigerian singer, Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has revealed what she went through as a child after moving to the United Kingdom.

    Savage who bagged an honorary degree from her alma mater, the University of Kent, on Friday spoke about her challenges as an immigrant in the UK while delivering her acceptance speech.

    Savage made this revelation through her colleague, Bankulli Osha, via his Instagram page, in the video Tiwa was seen addressing the audience, dressed in an academic gown.

    Savage, revealed that she faced bullying and got suspended from school on many occasions.

    “I failed at a lot of things actually,” she said. “I was bullied at school severely when I moved to the UK, I ran away from home a few times, I was suspended a few times from school.”

    Indirectly referencing her sex tape scandal, the songstress said, “I’ve been globally ridiculed a couple of times, I’m not going to say what it is but it rhymes with ‘cape’. The irony.

    “I also failed Principles of Finance at this very university when I was graduating.”

    She noted that despite the struggles, she has succeeded in becoming a “leading figure” in Afrobeats.

    The mother of one also stated that while some call her queen, she is to be referred to as “Dr. Savage from now on”.

    Savage earlier bagged an Accounting degree from Kent. She is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts.

    Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage will receive an honorary doctorate degree, Doctor in Music, from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the honorary doctorate degree to be conferred on Tiwa Savage is in recognition of her inspirational and international career in music.

    The ceremony will take place at Canterbury from 11-15 July and in Rochester on 20 July, according to a statement published on the university’s website.

    Particularly, the honorary degree conferment on Tiwa Savage will take place at Canterbury on the 15th of July.

    Tiwa Savage will bag the honorary degree along with nine (9) other inspirational individuals, including 2021 Nobel Laureate for Literature and Kent emeritus professor, Abdulrazak Gurnah.

    The statement reads: “Kent is looking forward to awarding honorary degrees to ten inspirational individuals during its congregation ceremonies at Canterbury and Rochester cathedrals during July 2022.

    “Among those to receive awards will be singer-songwriter and Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage, and the 2021 Nobel Laureate for Literature and Kent emeritus professor, Abdulrazak Gurnah. The ceremonies will take place at Canterbury from 11-15 July and Rochester on 20 July”.
