    JUST-IN: Unknown Gunmen abduct 6 law students in Benue

    Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted six students of the Nigerian Law School in Benue while travelling to resume academic activities at the institution’s Yola Campus in Adamawa State.

    The abduction, TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) understands occurred in the evening of Saturday, July 26, along the volatile Wukari-Benue border axis, a highway notorious for kidnappings, armed robbery, and sporadic attacks by criminal groups.

    The students who were identified as: Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel and Obiorah David was said to be travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, following the completion of their mandatory court externship programme.

    The Yola Law School Campus is scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 28.

    Confirming the incident, a fellow student, Damilare Adenola, expressed deep concern about the safety of his colleagues.

    “Six students of the Nigerian Law School have been reportedly kidnapped by suspected armed bandits while travelling to resume school after their court externship break,” he said.

    A student union leader at the Yola campus, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that the abduction had been reported to the authorities.

    “We are all in shock here in Yola. We’ve been in contact with the Adamawa State Police Command, but we’ve also been told that the incident happened outside their jurisdiction. We are waiting and praying for more concrete updates,” the student leader said.

    Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in “senseless and unprovoked” attack killed multiple residents, including a recently married soldier  in the Ikobi-Ochekwu community in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the assault persisted for several hours, as the assailants,  burned down most houses in the area,  indiscriminately firing at residents 

    The precise casualty count is still unknown, as numerous individuals remain unaccounted for.

    “In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were discovered in nearby Ijaha, identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi,” a A local resident, Ochofie said 

    However, the identities of other victims, including the slain soldiers who were said to have recently tied the knot, are yet to be officially confirmed by authorities.

    A group of unknown gunmen on Thursday launched a deadly assault on a police checkpoint, resulting in the death of two officers in Enugu State.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the incident occurred at Agbogugu, a town situated along the Enugu-Ozalla-Port Harcourt Old Road in Awgu Local Government Area.

    According to reports, the attackers who executed the attack swiftly, burnt a patrol van and a Sienna vehicle used by the police at the checkpoint.

    Eyewitnesses further disclosed that the attackers met little to no resistance and left Agbogugu town unchallenged.

    Yesterday evening, gunmen suspected to be armed robbers attacked a police checkpoint in Agbogugu along Enugu-Ozalla-Port Harcourt Old Road, killing two police officers. They also burned two vehicles, a Sienna and a police patrol van,” an eyewitness recounted.

    A Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and another officer locally known as “Big” are the two known victims from the deadly attack.

    Police from Enugu also came and took the burned vehicles away. I learned that the assailants carted away the slain officers’ weapons,” the eyewitness added.

    Unknown gunmen kill Nigerian doctor in Benin

    Unknown armed assailants have killed a physiotherapist working with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

    TheNewsGuru reports that the Public Relations Officer of UBTH, Joshua Uwaibi, representing the hospital’s management, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.

    According to Uwaibi, the management of UBTH  have formally requested the Edo State Police Command, with a copy sent to the Department of State Services (DSS), to conduct an investigation and apprehend the individuals responsible for the murder of Ogunniyi, who was tragically killed last Friday while en route to have lunch at a restaurant located behind the hospital.

    According to Uwaibi, “A physiotherapist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital was shot dead on Friday while on the way to have his lunch.

    “It was gathered that a vehicle was chasing another one. The one behind was shooting at the one in front and a stray bullet hit the deceased in the neck. He was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department but he didn’t make it.

    “We have written to the Edo Police Command and copied the DSS calling for investigation and the need to bring the killers to justice.”

    TheNewsGuru understands that the incident has led to some health workers protesting the killing of their colleague.

    A group of unknown gunmen on Tuesday abducted two students from the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Markurdi (JoSTUM), Benue State.

    The state’s police spokesperson, Superintendent (SP), Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident, noting that Sthe Command had only received a report regarding the abduction of two students and investigations are currently ongoing.

    Anene said, “We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped.

    “We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon.”

    However, a male student of the university, who chose to be anonymous, revealed that four students were actually taken by the gunmen.

    He stated that the incident had caused widespread panic among the student body.

    The student said, “Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them.

    “Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident.”

    Anene then urged the students to remain calm and promised to apprehend the culprits very soon.

    Tragedy struck after unknown gunmen stormed Lighitlubang village in Bungha District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a family of five while they were asleep on Friday, January 31, 2025.

    According to one of the villagers, Moses Bankat, who confirmed the incident to Punch, the victims were attacked at the dead of the night. The assailants killed a man, his wife and their child as well as another couple.

    “It happened at about midnight on 31/01/2025. Some suspected Fulani terrorists entered Lighitlubang village in Bungha District of Mangu Local Government and k!lled a family of five—a man, his wife, and child—along with another man and his wife, all slaughtered,” he said.

    It was gathered that the attack sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing fear and anxiety.

    Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, said security agents had been deployed to the affected community to maintain peace and order while an investigation had begun.

    A group of unknown gunmen on Monday bombed a police station in Anambra State, leaving over three policemen dead in the process.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the incident occurred at Orumba South Local Government Area of the State.

    Joint Security Force, including the Military, Police, Navy, Civil Defence, and Vigilance groups, arrived the scene, recovering five unexploded bombs.

    Reports indicated that the assailants, suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), were attempting to enforce the Monday sit-at-home order when they clashed with security personnel.

    While eyewitnesses reported three fatalities and additional injuries, Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that two policemen were killed in the attack.

    He said, “The Joint Security Forces comprising of the Police, Army, Navy, Civil defence and other Security Agencies recovered five unexploded improvised explosives and are on the trail of arsonist and armed successionist group members, who in the early hours of today 16/9/2024 attacked the Umunze Police Station.

    “The suspected Armed Proscribed Group invaded the Police Facility with improvised explosives, shooting sporadically and fire caught part of the Station.

    “Unfortunately, two of the Police Operatives on duty during the gun battle in a bid to resist the assailants from causing more havoc paid the supreme price. Their bodies have been recovered and taken to the morgue.”

    Unknown gunmen on Tuesday shot and killed two mobile police officers and a civilian in Ikeduru local government area of Imo State

    Eyewitness disclosed that the gunmen came in a motorbike and ambushed the police officers who were on a stop-and-search operation at Akabor.

    The Command’s Spokesperson, Henry Okoye confirmed the tragic incident, in which he disclosed that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aboki Danjuma has deployed the command’s Special Tactical Squad to go after the killers of the officers in synergy with other security agencies.

    Okoye, while consoling the families of the bereaved assured them that no stone would be left unturned in his quest to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book.

    He said: “The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad and equipped them with the available operational resources and intelligence to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and clamp down on the hoodlums responsible for the unprovoked and unwarranted attack and killing of Police Mobile operatives conducting stop-and-search at Akabor in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State.

    “The tragic incident was perpetrated in the early hours of 11/06/2024 by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate Eastern Security Network (ESN) who attacked the operatives in their numbers firing sporadically. The operatives fought gallantly but unfortunately, two personnel and a civilian were fatally hit.

    “In the wake of the tragic incident, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma alongside the DC Operations led Police Operatives to the scene of the crime for on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

    “Intense operation is ongoing in the area for possible apprehension and prosecution of the fleeing hoodlums responsible for the senseless act of violence.

    “More so, the Commissioner of Police has set up a high-powered investigation team and tasked them to carry out a comprehensive investigation to unravel the perpetrators of the attack. Meanwhile, the lifeless bodies of the affected officers and a civilian have been recovered and deposited in a mortuary for preservation.

    “The ugly incident serves as a stark and painful reminder of the daily risk and sacrifices Police officers embrace in their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the good people of Imo State.”

    Unknown gunmen abduct Oyo State PMS Chairman

    Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, kidnapped Alhaji Akeem Akintola, the Oyo State Chairman, Tipper, Lorry and Quarry Park Management System (PMS).

    Akintola, popularly known as KUSO, was kidnapped at his residence at Ajiboye area, Omi Apata, Ibadan.

    A source, who did not want his name published, said that the gunmen stormed Akintola’s residence in the early hours of Saturday and abducted him to an unknown destination.

    Efforts by NAN correspondent to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, SP Adewale Osifeso, proved abortive.

    Several calls put through to his number were not answered.

    Panic as unknown gunmen enforce sit-at-home in Enugu

    Confusion in Enugu state as residents were thrown into tension and fear on Wednesday over enforcement of sit-at-home.

    It was learnt that unknown gunmen moved round many parts of the State to enforce the one week sit-at-home declared by the Simon Ekpa led faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

    According to eye witness, the gunmen shot sporadically at the New Market axis of the State, Artisan, Emene, New Haven, Abakpa, Agbani Road and NOWAS.

    The gunmen, who had their faces covered with masks, were reported to have operated in a Siena vehicle, as well as tricycles.

    Many parents, whose children were already in school, were seen in panic mode.

    A combined team of the Army and the Police are said to be on chase of the gunmen.

    A helicopter was also seen hovering around major parts of the State.
