    ‘Shocking’, ‘strange’, Osun Government reacts to killing of six family members by unknown gunmen

    The Osun Government has condemned the killings of six family members at Wasinmi in Irewole Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the Police Command in the state had confirmed the killings which took place on Saturday night.

    Mr Benedict Alabi, the state Deputy Governor, who paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family on Sunday, described the killings as disheartening and unfortunate.

    Alabi, who was received by scores of family members of the deceased and some leaders in the community, described the incident as a case of brutal assassination.

    The deputy governor assured the community that the perpetrators would be brought to book in no distant time.

    He added that the state government had ordered the security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

    The deputy governor was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mrs Abiodun Ige.

    He urged members of the community and the indigenes of the state to remain calm, while assuring them that the government would continue to provide security across the state.

    “This is a very unfortunate incident and we are very sad about it as a government.

    “It is shocking and strange to our communities.

    “We are here on behalf of the state government to sympathise with you and we are assuring you that those criminal elements that perpetrated this evil act would not go scot-free.

    “We have also ordered security agencies to swing into action and fish them out to face the wrath of the law”, the deputy governor said.

    He, however, called on members of the community to assist security agents with useful information that could speed up the arrest of the killers.

    Unknown gunmen assassinate retired DIG’s Wife in Benue

    The Benue Police Command has announced the assassination of Mrs Eunice Aghanya, wife of retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Mr Ibe Aghanya, in Makurdi, the Benue capital.

    The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene said the victim was killed by unknown gunmen at her Makurdi residence, behind Kismet Hotel, on Saturday afternoon.

    She said since the incident, investigations had been ongoing.

    According to reports before her death, the deceased was the owner of Euniland Bread, Makurdi.

    Similarly, retired DIG Aghanya was a one time Benue State Commissioner of Police and later DIG in charge of Zone 2.

  • Unknown gunman kills customs officer at Lagos port

    A yet to be identified gunman has attacked and killed one Aliyu Adamu, a Customs officer attached to the Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) last week.

    Investigations revealed that the officer was on his way home after the close of work when he was accosted by some men at the second gate of the Tin-Can port.

    Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relation officer, Mr. Uche Ejieseme told reporters that the late Adamu was until his death attached to the Ashaye exit gate.

    Ejieseme said the late Ashaye was attacked last Thursday at about 10PM on his way home.

    The Command spokesman also said that it was not clear whether the killing was an act of armed robbery and assassination

    According to him, the officer was blocked while on a bike around National Filling station close to Tin-Can.

    The officer, Ejieseme said had a little scuffle with the assailants while they tempted to snatch his back pack.

    In Ejieseme’s words: “On December 22, 2016, an officer named A. D. Aliyu was attacked by unidentified gunman, on his way home after close of work.

    “The matter has been reported to the Trinity Police Station and his remains has been transported to Katsina and buried according to Islamic rites.”

    Investigations is however ongoing into the case.
