    How we built Nollywood with tears and blood – Kanayo O. Kanayo

    Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has reflected on the struggles and sacrifices made by some of the pioneers that helped shape the Nigerian movie industry.

    In a post shared on Instagram on Monday, the 62-year-old reflected on the dedication and effort that many actors and filmmakers put into building Nollywood from scratch.

    The actor while referring to American actor Denzel Washington said the hours invested in Nigerian film productions were so intense that they could change a person physically.

    “If Denzel Washington puts in the number of hours I put in the production here, his colour will change to charcoal the next day. Because we built this industry with tears, sweat, and blood,” he wrote.

    He continued: “Some of us are lucky to still have our health in good place.”

    Looking back at the early days of Nollywood, Kanayo said: “We started this industry at a time when there was a light called 2K. If they bring one 2K on you, they will remove from your name.”

    Fresh details emerge on late Chief Kanran’s death

    The cause of veteran Nollywood actor, Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran’s death has emerged on social media.

    Recall, movie executive and producer, Seun Oloketuyi, confirmed Chief Kanran’s death in an Instagram post, stating that the actor passed away on Friday, August 15th.

    Speaking further on Kanran’s death, Oloketuyi disclosed that the veteran slumped and died instantly in his bathroom at home, stressing that he has been managing high Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

    Family sources disclosed that the thespian died at 62, contrary to reports that he was age 72, and would have been 63 in September.

    Oloketuyi added that Chief Kanran, who was active before the sudden death, will be laid to rest in September.

    He wrote, “How Chief Kanra died. Segun Remi this afternoon slumped in the bathroom and died instantly. Close family sources confirm to us that Chief Kanra was 62 and would have been 63 next month will be buried next month.

    “He was said to be managing HBP. His death in his residence, Meran, was shocked many people because he was active. In fact, he still granted interview last week.”

    Meanwhile actor Femi Adebayo took to social media to mourn over the death of his senior colleague Segun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran.

    The 46-year-old shared a carousel of photos, including a lit candle and pictures of the late actor.

    Razaq Olayiwola, the Veteran Nollywood actor, popularly known as Ojopagogo, has recounted how his late first wife, Funmilayo, died while he was on a movie set.

    According to actor, the painful event occurred in 2000 while he was on location in Abeokuta, shooting a film titled Osuwon, directed by his colleague, Ebun Oloyede, also known as Olaiya Igwe.

    The veteran actor mentioned that his wife was in good health when he left home, and there were no signs of any problems.

    Before he traveled for the shoot, Funmilayo had encouraged him to take the job and even helped him find an umbrella the night before because of the heavy rainfall.

    “It is not something I like to remember. I lost someone who was like my backbone. It was my wife, the wife who gave birth to our children. I was not supposed to go for that work. The reason is that my wife herself has been telling me to go for the shoot. At the time, we were also planning to make our movie ‘Ejo Ori Apata’. This rain started the night before the shoot.

    “When the rain was so much, my wife went out to borrow an umbrella for me to be able to go out for the shoot. She told me Olaiya had never called us for the job, and now he has called me. Till I got to the place, my body was not calm. I was not too playful at the outing.

    “They said one of my brothers should come meet me at Abeokuta. They did not tell me until my brother came to Abeokuta. We did not even start the work the night I got to the location.

    “Other people at the location told me to go home. As I was travelling down, because the plan I had with my wife was that she should go to Oyo town and buy some yam flour, I just felt a breeze inside the bus. When I got to Oyo, I saw my father outside, trying to console me. As soon as I entered the house, many people gathered around me to express their condolences.

    “I told them that nothing was wrong with her. Until I left that house and went to the park, and then returned to Ibadan, I was still in shock and dismay when I travelled to Ibadan from Oyo and returned to Ibadan,” he said

    Veteran Nigerian actor Patrick Doyle has refuted claims that his estranged wife, Ireti Doyle, is more popular than he is.

    He argued that his ex-wife’s decision to keep his surname after their divorce was driven by his popularity.

    He pointed out that he rose to fame at the age of 16, long before his ex-wife became well-known. In a recent interview with The Muvmnt Studio, the actor emphasized that he cannot be defined by his ex-wife or anyone else, asserting that he has established credentials of his own

    The host asked: “Your ex-wife is more popular than you are, how do you feel about that?

    Doyle replied: “I have been popular since I was 16. How long has she been around? I have been around for 45 years and I’m still around. I was a superstar at the age of 16; a champion debater. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo.

    “I can never be defined by her. My body of work is too solid to be defined by any human being living or dead. Why is the name Doyle popular? Why didn’t she revert and change name at the end of the marriage?

    Dolyle married Iretiola Doyle after he lost his first wife to sickle cell anemia in 1999. The couple confirmed their divorce in 2023.

    Veteran Nollywood actor Kpoko, renowned for his portrayal of a native doctor, has fallen ill and is currently battling for his life, in a hospital.

    Stanley Ontop, a film director, via his verified Instagram page, shared updates regarding Kpoko’s condition, revealing that representatives from human rights organizations visited him in the hospital.

    Ontop also mentioned that a fan provided Kpoko with a cash gift.

    However, he expressed disappointment that prominent Nollywood actors had not shown similar support.

    In his words: “Ontop cares human Rights Organizations went to see Kpoko in the hospital today.He’s recuperating and soon will be discharge from the hospital. We gifted him some cash which will be posted in an hour time. God bless A fan of mine whom the lord used to help Kpoko today.

    “I am ashamed of our big big nollywood actors who has not sent him anything nor even visit him…. Buh it is well shaaaaa…. We are not really our brother’s keeper in this business…. This too shall pass.”

    Veteran Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu, also known as Shina Rambo, has denied rumors claiming that he now sells okrika, which popularly refers to second-hand or thrifted clothing.

    It would be recalled that a video of the movie star selling clothes on the floor of a popular market in Enugu State, sparked reactions with many claiming that he was selling okrika.

    However, speaking in an interview with media personality, Patience Yisa, Sylvester clarified that, he imports brand-new clothes from the United States and has multiple shops managed by his workers.

    The veteran actor also added that he has been in the clothing business for over 30 years.

    He said, “First of all, I don’t sell okrika. Those clothes I was filmed selling are not necessarily okrika because they were on the floor. I don’t sell okrika. I import from the U.S.

    “I have multiple shops and I have boys who sell for me. I don’t do big man, I go to the field to sell by myself. I have a lot of people selling for me. I have different shops. I monitor my business. I have been doing this business for over 30 years.”

    His family made this disclosure via a statement saying:

    “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we report the passing of Nollywood actor Columbus Irisoanga.

    ” The talented actor has left this world to be with his fore-fathers beyond, as he passed away in the early hours of today at 1am.

    “Columbus Irisoanga was a well-known figure in the Nigerian film industry, having appeared in numerous movies and TV shows that have touched the hearts of many. His performances were always captivating, and his presence on screen will be greatly missed.

    “His sudden departure has left his fans and colleagues in shock and disbelief. Columbus Irisoanga will always be remembered for his talent, dedication, and passion for his craft. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

    “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Columbus Irisoanga’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

    “May he rest in peace and may his soul find eternal peace in the arms of his fore-fathers beyond.
