2023: APC will take over 6 states in South-South Nigeria – Giadom

The National Vice Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South, Victor Giadom, has said that with the success of its just-concluded National Convention, the party has been repositioned to take over the six states of the region in 2023.

He spoke to journalists on Wednesday, after he led a delegation of APC South-South Zone on a courtesy visit to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Giadom said that the APC is determined and “has what it takes to take over the governance of the region after the 2023 general elections.”

He noted that the party had learnt from its mistakes that led to two states – Bayelsa and Edo – being reclaimed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that such would not repeat itself.

Giadom said: “We are here to ensure that we work in synergy, unity and purposefulness so that we can win the rest of the states in the South-South, come 2023.

“You know that we lost Bayelsa for what I will call little mistake; you know that for internal disagreement, we lost Edo. That is not to mean that APC is not strong in the South-South. We are going to test our popularity in 2023.

“We will ensure that we work together, bring victory to the entire South-South zone of this party and bring back APC in the six states of the zone.”

He explained that the success of the National Convention had brought an end to all insinuations about crisis in the ruling party.

Giadom applauded Omo-Agege for his support to zonal leaders at the just-concluded convention.

“We have come to have a meeting with our leader and a proud son of the South-South who has done so well for this country; to thank him for the support he gave to all of us in the just-concluded National Convention.

“We visited him to also solicit his usual support to reposition the party in the zone so that we can ensure victory in 2023.

“You know that it is our responsibility to ensure that we drive the party to success and claim the six states in the South-South,” he said.

Victor Giadom, acting national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has handed over the leadership of the party to the new chairman of the caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni.

The handing over ceremony was held behind closed doors on Monday at the National Working Committee conference room at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.

Buni’s appointment came after the APC NEC meeting conveyed by Giadom and presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee last Thursday.

However, at the handing over ceremony, Giadom assured members of the committee of his readiness to support and partner with the team towards the realization of the party’s goals.

He also prayed to God to give Buni, who is the governor of Yobe, the wisdom to manage the affairs of the party.

He said: “I Chief Honourable Victor Giadom the outgoing acting national chairman, today Monday 29th of June 2020 hands over to the chairman and members of the national caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress.

“I assure the committee of my readiness to partner with them to achieve the party goals and objectives towards a successful national convention.

“I pray that the almighty God grants you wisdom to pilot the affairs of the party.”

  • BREAKING: Court approves, compels Giadom to conduct APC NEC meeting tomorrow

A High Court of Justice siting in Jos, Plateau State has granted an Order compelling the Acting National Chairman of APC, Chief Victor Giadom, to proceed with the NEC meeting fixed for Thursday, June 25th, 2020.

The Order was made upon the Application of the Chairman of Plateau APC, Mr. Latep Dabang, who is also a member of NEC. He complained that the provision of the APC Constitution regarding the convening of a quarterly NEC meeting has been serially abused and ignored by the present NWC, leading to a litany of illegalities by the NWC.

It would be recalled that just yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari gave his nod to the convening of an emergency NEC meeting to save the party from the multiple crises bedeviling it. Already letters have been sent out to all the Governors and members of the National Assembly who are NEC members. Whilst the Governors and lawmakers would be seated at the Council Chambers with Mr. President, others would join by virtual means. Already, the visitors list at the Presidential Villa contains the names of NEC members expected to arrive tomorrow, confirming the clear endorsement of the meeting by President Muhammadu Buhari.

BREAKING: Buhari okays Giadom as APC acting National Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has okayed Victor Giadom as the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealing he would be attending the virtual meeting of the APC convened by Giadom on Thursday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity made this known on Wednesday.

In a statement, Shehu stated that Buhari had received convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned.

He further stated that the President had determined that the law was on the side of Giadom as acting National Chairman.

“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, a High Court of Justice sitting in Jos, Plateau State has granted an order compelling Giadom to proceed with the NEC meeting fixed for Thursday, June 25th, 2020.

The order was made upon the application of the Chairman of Plateau APC, Mr. Latep Dabang, who is also a member of NEC.

  • JUST IN: Court bars Gaidom from parading self APC member

A Rivers High Court has restrained former Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Victor Giadom from parading himself as a member or officer of the party.

Justice C. Nwogu gave the order in a suit filed by Okechukwu Chidor Ogbonna and Mac-Lords Peterson against APC Rivers chapter; Acting chairman of the chapter Igo Aguma; Victor Giadom and Golden Chioma in Port-Harcourt.

The court stated having been suspended by the State Executive Committee (SEC) of APC, Giadom should not participate in the activities of the party pending determination of the substantive case.

The judge ruled: “An order of interim order is hereby made restraining the third defendant from parading himself as an officer or member… or exercising any right or privilege accruable to members….”

APC Rivers had forwarded Barrister Worgu Boms as replacement to National Working Committee (NWC), which swore him in on Monday.

The Judge adjourned further hearing in the suit to July, 9 2020.

  • Defiant Giadom insists ‘only NEC can resolve APC crisis’

Former National Deputy Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Victor Gaidom on Monday said the only way out of the on-going leadership crisis in the party is convocation of National Executive Council (NEC).

Speaking with newsmen at the National Secretariat of the party, the embattled APC leader said it was high time the party was handed over to higher organ since the lingering issus are beyond the National Working Committee (NWC).

Asked what will be the way forward for the party, Gaidom said: “I have always insisted at the beginning of this crisis that the only way to resolve this issue is to surrender this party to a higher organ which is the best.

“And I am still insisting that the only way to get ourselves out of this mess is to convoke a NEC meeting. That is the only route out, I have the feeling that there is no other route to have peace and justice in this party except through a NEC meeting that has been my decision.

“There has to be a NEC meeting. NEC is the higher organ above the NWC, I do not see why they are afraid. You have to surrender this organ so that the right thing would be done and every other decision that has been taken by the leadership would be ratified by NEC.

“So if we do not have NEC meeting, it would be difficult to resolve this crisis,” Giadom said.

  • APC crisis: Rivers High Court sends Victor Giadom packing

…says he is not a member of APC

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sent acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom packing.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Rivers State High Court declared that Giadom is not a member of the party.

This spells more troubles as the court declared that after resigning from the party to contest the position of Deputy Governor in 2019 guber in Rivers, Giadom ceases to be a member of the APC NWC.

It was gathered that the court presided over by Justice Florence Fiberesima granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining Giadom from parading himself as a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC in a suit filed by Dele Moses & Others.

The order was made sequel to a motion exparte brought before the court by the plaintiffs, Dele Moses and Azunda Wori against the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, Victor Giadom; the Acting Chairman of APC, Rivers State, Igo Aguma and the National Legal Adviser, APC, Babatunde Ogala.

The court also granted an order restraining Giadom from issuing, signing or endorsing any document or correspondence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any other body or institution in the capacity of the National Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the APC or howsoever as an officer of the APC.

A copy of the interim order signed by Assistant Chief Registrar, Patricia Victor, mandated the APC not to recognize Giadom named as the third defendant in the case as a member of the NWC.

The plaintiffs prayed for: “A declaration that sequel to the resignation of the 3rd defendant (Victor Giadom) as Deputy National Secretary of the 1st Defendant (APC) in 2018, for the purposes of contesting in the 2019 general election as Deputy Governor of Rivers State, the 3rd defendant is no longer the Deputy National Secretary of the 1st defendant.

“A declaration that the third defendant (Victor Giadom) is not a member of the National Working Committee ( NWC) of the first defendant having resigned his membership of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the first defendant for purposes of contesting in the 2019 general election as the Deputy Governor of Rivers State.

“A declaration that the resignation of the third defendant (Victor Giadom) as the Deputy National Secretary of the 1st Defendant in 2018 is valid and effective from 2018 till date.

“A declaration that the third defendant (Victor Giadom) is not the National Chairman, or Acting National Chairman,or Deputy National Secretary or otherwise howsoever a member of the National Working Committee of the 1st Defendant.

“An order restraining the third defendant (Victor Giadom) from issuing, signing or endorsing any document or correspondence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any other body or institution in the capacity of the National Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the 1st Defendant or howsoever as an officer of the 1st Defendant.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the first, second, fourth and fifth defendants from recognizing or regarding the third defendant as either a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Deputy National Secretary, National Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the fist defendant”.

While granting the prayers, the court said: “That an interim injunction be and is hereby made restraining Giadom acting by himself or through his privies or agents howsoever described from parading himself as the National Chairman of the first defendant or Deputy National Secretary of the first defendant or member of the NWC of the first defendant pending the determination of the motion on notice.

“That an interim injunction be and is hereby made restraining Giadom from issuing, signing, or endorsing any document to INEC or any other body or institution in the capacity of the National Chairman or acting National Chairman of the first defendant or in whatsoever capacity pending the determination of the motion on notice.

“That an order of interim injunction be and is hereby made restraining the first, second, fourth and fifth defendants acting by themselves or through any of their officers, agents or privies from recognizing or regarding Giadom as the national chairman of the first defendant or deputy national secretary of member of the NWC of the first defendant.

“That every order in this suit including the originating process and other subsequent processes be served on the defendants at the first defendant secretariat at 65 Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State by pasting same on the notice board”.

  • BREAKING: Court renews Giadom’s position as Acting National Chairman of APC

A Federal High Court in Abuja has renewed the order empowering Chief Victor Giadom to act as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for two weeks.

The court also empowered Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the APC National Vice Chairman (North East) to act as the National Secretary.

With this, it is becoming clearer that APC may not be able to field any candidate in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.

Chief Victor Giadom had said yesterday, that he was the authentic Acting National Chairman of the APC, following a ruling of the Federal Capital Teritory High Court.

Giadom who is the party’s Deputy National Secretary said he was the highest ranking official following the ruling of the Court of Appeal on Tuesday, which upheld Oshiomhole’s suspension and declared all his actions since his suspension, null and void.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Isa-Onilu, had announced ailing Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the Acting National Chairman, being the Deputy National Chairman (South).

But Giadom, who spoke through his counsel, Wole Afolabi, said consequent upon an order of the FCT High Court issued on March 16, 2020, by Hon. Justice S.U Bature in Suit No. FCT/HC/M/6447/202, “Chief Victor Giadom is to act as the National Chairman.”

A statement issued by his lawyer, Wole Afolabi, reads:

COURT RECOGNIZES VICTOR GIADOM AS ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF APC

Our attention has been drawn to a Statement purportedly issued by the Publicity Secretary of the APC to the effect that Senator Abiola Ajumobi is to act as the National Chairman of APC following the suspension from office of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by the Court of Appeal.

We wish to state that the statement must have been issued in complete ignorance of the order of the FCT High Court issued on 16th of March, 2020, by Hon. Justice S.U Bature in Suit No. FCT/HC/M/6447/2020 to the effect that Chief Victor Giadom is to act as the National Chairman of the party due to the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman.

The order was given the same day that the Court of Appeal earlier gave Oshiomhole a temporary respite by staying the execution of the said order suspending Oshiomhole. Now that the Court of Appeal has affirmed the order of suspension, it is only proper that the Order recognizing Chief Victor Giadom is implemented.

Consequently, we have written to all law-enforcement agencies to implement the said order and any one who attempts to parade himself/herself other than Chief Victor Giadom as the Acting Chairman of the APC would be facing contempt of court proceedings.

The said order has now been extended by the court for two weeks.

Confusion reigns supreme in APC as four chairmen lay claim to position

…Ajimobi led APC reverses Giadom’s cancellation of screening C’ttee report

… as implosion stares ruling party

There are confusing signals from the All Progressives Congress, APC as four chairmen lay claim to the chairmanship position.

As it’s now, APC has four chairmen, Adams Oshiomhole, Victor Giadom, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and Shaibu Lawal.

The suspended chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole on one hand has declared that he’s still the substantive chairman until the apex court finally gives a verdict on his matter.

On the other hand, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who is said to be allegedly ill was announced late Tuesday evening by the Publicity Secretary, of APC Issa Onilu as the acting National chairman of the party.

Few hours after his announcement, Victor Giadom armed with a court injunction declared himself acting National chairman.

Just as Nigerians were still brooding over the next line of action from the ailing APC, Shaibu Lawal declared that he’s the authentic acting chairman.

Just a few hours ago the Abiola Ajimobi-led faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC has reversed the cancellation of the Edo state Gubernatorial screening exercise cancelled by acting APC national chairman, Victor Giadom.

The ruling party is currently embroiled in a serious crisis as it is now has four national chairmen, Giadom, OshiomholeLawal and Ajimobi.

Deputy Vice-Chairman (South-South), Hillary Eta, who addressed the media in the absence of the ailing Ajimobi, announced the reversal of the cancellation of the screening.

The Ajimobi-led APC faction has subsequently appointed Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, as the Chairman of its Edo State Governorship Primary election.

The APC National Working Committee said Victor Giadom, who earlier took over as Acting National Chairman of the party, is not a member of the National Working Committee of the party having resigned his position to contest as Rivers Deputy Governor in 2019.

It’s confusion galore in APC barely 24hours after Governor Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, 14 lawmakers and 18 local government chairmen dumped APC for yet to be disclosed party.

According to the NWC, Giadom’s membership of the party ceased when he resigned to contest the Deputy Governorship position in Rivers State.
