Victor Moses officially departs Chelsea for Spartak Moscow on permanent deal

Former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses has joined Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

Spartak Moscow confirmed the deal in a statement released on their official website on Friday.
The transfer put an end to Moses’ nine-year association with Chelsea having linked up with the Blues from Wigan Athletic in 2012.

The 2013 AFCON winner penned a two-year contract with Spartak Moscow who finished in second position in the Russian top-flight last season.

“We’re delighted to announce that we have completed the permanent transfer of Victor Moses from Chelsea. After a successful loan spell last season, Victor has chosen to extend his contract with us for another two years, and will now stay around until 2023,”reads a statement on the club website.

“Everybody at Spartak is excited to watch more of Moses over the next two years, and wish him nothing but the best.

Moses scored four goals and provided four assists in 22 appearances during his loan stint with Spartak last season.

  • Victor Moses rates Warnock highter than Mourinho as manager

Victor Moses rates Warnock highter than Mourinho as manager

Victor Moses considers Neil Warnock and Roberto Martinez to be better managers than Jose Mourinho, with the Nigerian leaving a Portuguese tactician he has previously worked with at Chelsea off his list of top coaches.

Mourinho gave Moses few opportunities at Stamford Bridge between 2013 and 2015, with loan moves to Liverpool and Stoke sanctioned.

That snub has not been forgotten by a man who remains tied to the Blues – with a stint at Spartak Moscow being taken in this season – and one who has found greater enjoyment working under bosses at Crystal Palace and Wigan.

Asked to piece together a list of favourite managers he has worked under, Moses did find room for a couple of ex-Chelsea bosses as he told Spartak’s official website: “[Antonio] Conte is on this list.

“He helped me to believe in myself. And that’s purely from a human perspective and not because he found me a new position on the right side of the defence.

“Next Roberto Martinez, Rafael Benitez. Neil Warnock, with whom I made my debut at Crystal Palace. [Domenico] Tedesco. And also Mark Hughes.”

Quizzed on his decision to snub Mourinho, Moses added: “Without a doubt, Jose is a cool pro, I respect his achievements. But there wasn’t the necessary connection between the player and the coach.

“In the end, I tried in training, I wanted to play, but Mourinho had a different opinion.”

The former Super Eagles star returned to West London this month after his brief loan stint at Inter Milan and he is yet to make a matchday squad since the start of the campaign.

Moses has spent the last one-and-a-half years away from Stamford Bridge with his last competitive outing with the Blues dating back to a Europa League game against BATE in October 2018.

Ahead of Tuesday’s League Cup fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, Lampard confirmed the 29-year-old is not training with the first-team.

“At the moment Victor isn’t in that position with us. We have a bubble at the training ground with the first-team squad, which Victor hasn’t been part of,” Lampard said in a press conference.

  • Conte reveals why Moses is settling faster than Eriksen at Inter

Inter Milan boss, Antonio Conte has revealed why Victor Moses has settled quickly at the club better than Christian Eriksen.

Moses and Eriksen joined the Italian giants this winter transfer window but the Nigerian is feeling more at home at the San Siro than the former Tottenham star.

Both players came in as substitute as Inter came from two goals down to beat AC Milan 4-2 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday.

The Danish international replaced Alexis Sanchez on 72 minutes, while Moses came on in 80th minutes.

Conte was quoted by Sky Sports Italia as saying that Moses, who joined from Chelsea, has quickly settled because he worked under him for two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

“Both Ashley Young and Victor Moses, because they are wing-backs, don’t need quite so much guidance in training. Plus Moses already played with me at Chelsea.

“For midfielders, it’s more complicated, as I always ask something pre-planned and memorised for both attacking and defending moves. Christian knows football well, he reads it, but also is not quite at 100 percent fitness.

“I had thought about using Eriksen behind Lukaku, but then decided not to transform things too much, as it’s important for us to play with the two strikers.

Conte added that Eriksen had some issue dragging on with Tottenham before joining Inter which affected him.

  • Why Victor Moses dumped Super Eagles – Rohr

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has claimed Victor Moses retired from international football for football and age reasons.

Rohr stated this in an interview with French radio station RIG 90.7FM.

The German also pointed to Victor Osimhen as the replacement for Odion Ighalo, who retired from the national team after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We no longer have a big star, because John Obi Mikel retired, that Victor Moses also retired for family and age reasons in particular … and even our top scorer, Odion Ighalo, declared his retirement after the AFCON 2019.

“We managed to find a scorer with Victor Osimhen and other playmakers: we have Samuel Chukweze who plays at Villarreal, the little Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux who plays very very well with us – one of the best every time he plays with Nigeria – so we have a very, very young, promising team, and I might like to continue,” Rohr said.

Inter confirms Victor Moses shirt number

New Inter Milan signing Victor Moses will wear the number 11 shirt for his new club, Nerazzurri have revealed.

The wing-back, who joined the Italians on loan from Chelsea, is expected to play a major role in their Serie A and Europa League efforts in 2019-20.

It was soon announced that Moses would take up the notable shirt number at San Siro, following in the footsteps of compatriot Nwankwo Kanu, Lukas Podolski, Sulley Muntari and Andrea Pirlo.

The 29-year-old who becomes Antonio Conte’s fourth signing after Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young played 78 times in over two seasons the Italian presided over at Chelsea.

After Conte’s sacking by the Londoners in 2018, Moses struggled to break into the first team under Maurizio Sarri before exiting to join Fenerbahce on an 18-month loan deal in January 2019.

“I’m happy to be here. I’ll give my all and want to help the team. There’s a lot of quality here, I want to make my contribution on the pitch and enjoy myself. That’s the most important thing,” the Nigerian told Inter TV upon the completion of the move.

He could make his debut when Inter host Cagliari in Sunday’s Italian topflight.
