  • Why I turned down Arsenal – Victor Osimhen

Lille star Victor Osimhen has revealed that his desire to play first-team football was the reason that he rejected a move to Arsenal in 2017.

The attacker has been one of Europe’s top young striker this season after joining Lille as a replacement for Nicolas Pepe in the summer.

He has been linked with a move to Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window with reports claiming that he is seen asPierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s replacement.

However, the attacker could have joined Arsenal for just £3 million in 2017 after winning the FIFA under17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2015.

He was the top scorer at the competition and several top teams were keen to sign him but he chose to move to Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga because he saw a clearer path to the first team there.

It never really worked out for him in Germany and he made a move to Sporting Charleroi in Belgium where he got his career back on track and earned the move to his current side.

About his career moves, he said as quoted by the Star: “There were many clubs that were interested in me.But my choice was Wolfsburg because I think that my development opportunities are highest here.

“If I had gone to Arsenal, for example, I might not have found the route to the first team so quickly.”

Ligue 1: Victor Osimhen seals Lille comeback win

Victor Osimhen scored a second half penalty to help Lille come from behind to defeat Strasbourg 2-1 as the Great Danes claimed a first win in five in three games across all competitions.

Christophe Galtier’s men were forced to dig deep when Adrien Thomasson profited from a shambolic defending to hand the hosts a 12th minute lead.

Thomasson fired past goalkeeper Mike Maignan after the ball slipped off Renato Sanches’ legs near Lille’s goal area.

Defender Gabriel Magalhaes restored parity five minutes after the hour mark after heading home Jonathan Ikone’s cross off Sanches’ corner-kick.

With just ten minutes to full time, Osimhen punished wasteful Strasbourg from the penalty mark after defender Lionel Carole handled the ball.

The goal was the ex-Wolfsburg’s 10th of the season – four goals behind top scorer Wissam Ben Yedder of AS Monaco

  • Liverpool to sign Super Eagles striker

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to bid for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as the reigning European champions seek to bolster their squad..

Osimhen, 21, teamed up with Lille in June 2019 and has attracted massive interests from big European sides following a sparkling start to the life in France.

Barcelona, Spurs and Chelsea are all interested in the Nigerian but if reports in England are anything to go by, Liverpool’s Klopp will hijack the lanky forward.

Klopp has told the Reds’ scout to give him a detailed report about the player as the Premier League leaders hunt for glory in Europe.

Although Liverpool have Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, Klopp wants competition for them and sees Osimhen as the perfect player for that.

Osimhen’s age makes him suited for Klopp’s long-term plans with the Reds but would wait until the summer to price away Lille’s prized asset.
