Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen earned a late penalty for Champions Napoli as the hosts beat Juventus 2-1 in Serie A on Sunday.

Substitute Giacomo Raspadori scored late in the second half to secure their first back-to-back wins in five months.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put Napoli in front three minutes before halftime, volleying inside the near post.

Federico Chiesa levelled for Juventus in the 81st minute, scoring into the far bottom corner from the edge of the box.

But Raspadori wrapped up the points for the hosts two minutes from time, firing home a rebound into the roof of the net from close range.

This was after Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny denied Osimhen from the penalty spot.

Napoli moved up to seventh in the standings on 43 points, while Juventus remained second with 57 points after 27 games as their cushion over third-placed AC Milan narrowed to a point.

EPL: I’m working with Osimhen’s agent to bring him to Chelsea this summer – Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi has revealed that he is working with Osimhen’s agent to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian attacker will leave Napoli at the end of the season and he’s expected to cost his next club as much as €130million, which is the value of his release clause.

However, Mikel Obi admits that the Blues face interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Mikel said at the Web Summit Qatar: “I think there’s genuine interest between both (Chelsea and Osimhen).

“I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club, obviously he wants to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea, like Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, there’s not a lot of us.

“But he also has a lot of interest, like PSG, Man United, but I’m still pushing, sending him messages, trying to make sure he doesn’t expect too much, just narrow your mind on one club: The Blues!”

  • Serie A: Osimhen scores again in Napoli 1-1 with Cagliari

Serie A: Osimhen scores again in Napoli 1-1 with Cagliari

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli but Cagliari’s Luvumbo scored late in the game to end it in a stalemate for the host in athrilling Serie A encounter.

Defending champions Napoli remain ninth in the standings on 37 points, while Cagliari stay second from bottom with 20 points.

After a scoreless first half, Osimhen found the net with a header in the 65th minute which looked enough to take all three points before Luvumbo struck at the death.

“I’ve been missing a goal for a long time, I scored in front of my fans, it’s a huge happiness,” Luvumbo told reporters.

Francesco Calzona, who took over as Napoli manager from Walter Mazzarri on Monday, has now drawn his opening two games, after the midweek Champions League tie with Barcelona also finished 1-1.

Sunday’s game never promised to be a goal-fest, with Napoli failing to score in their last five away games.

While Cagliari had scored 23 goals in 25 league games, and the first half offered little in the way of clear-cut chances.

Napoli had the majority of possession but it was Cagliari on the counter who at least provided some attacking threat.

The hosts thought they had the lead when Amir Rrahmani headed a free kick into his own net, but it was disallowed for offside.

The second half saw little improvement until the 64th minute when Osimhen powered a header from a corner into the ground but it bounced safely into the hands of the Cagliari goalkeeper.

A minute later the Nigerian striker made no mistake.

Cagliari’s Tommaso Augello was dispossessed by Giacomo Raspadori on the right wing and his floated cross found Osimhen unmarked at the back post for an easy header to finally break the deadlock.

Napoli had chances late on to secure the win, with unmarked Matteo Politano firing wide, and Giovanni Simeone shooting straight at the keeper from close range in added time.

They were made to pay for those spurned chances.

With time running out, Alberto Dossena hit a hopeful long ball which fell to Luvumbo in the area who turned and struck on the half volley into the top corner to set off wild celebrations from the home fans.

“Napoli found the goal from our mistake, luckily they didn’t double their lead.

“But our fans supported us and we deservedly equalised,” Cagliari manager Claudio Ranieri told a press conference.

Cagliari may be without a win in their last six, but after four consecutive defeats, two draws have given them valuable points in their fight against relegation, drawing them level on points with Sassuolo who are in the safety zone.

As for Napoli, their third manager this season, Calzona, has much to do if they are to rescue something from this campaign, with a Champions League qualification place still a long way off

UCL: Porto pip Arsenal 1-0, Osimhen rescues Napoli in a pulsating draw against Barcelona

Arsenal’s hopes of making it to the quarter-final of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League was dealt a big blow after conceding a dying minute goal against Porto at the Estadio do Drago  to lose the encounter by 1-0.
Brazilian forward Galeno hit  a sensational stoppage-time winner as FC Porto secured a 1-0 victory over a toothless Arsenal that has scored 11 goals in their last tow premier League encounters.
The  hosts saw little of the ball in the early stages but should have opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Galeno volleyed against the post before firing a close-range rebound wide.
Arsenal struggled to create clear-cut chances but went close through William Saliba’s header from Bukayo Saka’s right-wing corner.
The result meant that Arsenal would have to overturn the 1-0 deficit in the second leg tie at the emirate to make it to the last 8 of the competition.
Gunners will now return to Premier League action at home to Newcastle on Saturday with the second leg of this tie at the Emirates set for March 12.

Elsewhere, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen salvaged a draw for Napoli in his first club appearance since December as they held Barcelona in their Champions League last-16 first leg.

Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski handed Barca the lead in the 60th minute in Italy when he arrowed an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

But the hosts eventually found a way back when Osimhen slipped past his marker in the box before rifling past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to level.
