Kaka, Bacca key to my AC Milan move – Chukwueze

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze is delighted to be an AC Milan player.

The former Villarreal star signed for the Rossonero on Thursday.

He revealed: “When I was a kid, I only looked at Ricardo Kaká. The goal he scored in the Champions League against Manchester United… When his head hit the ball and the defenders collided it was incredible.

“I think Kaká was my player from the great Milan, he was fantastic. When I watched some of his YouTube videos, I saw all the crazy things he did in the Rossoneri shirt. He was a fabulous player.”

Chukwueze continued: “I played together with Carlos Bacca (at Villarreal), I also came here because he was at Milan and played for Villarreal. I heard from him and asked him about the club and he told me it was fantastic.

“I really had so many questions because I really like Milan and I think they’re a great team with a great history. So I asked him and he said it’s a fantastic club and I should come here.”

La Liga: How Chukwueze’s brilliance helped Villarreal defeat Real Madrid

Two brilliant strikes from Samuel Chukwueze saw Villarreal beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Saturday.

The last time Villarreal beat Madrid in the league at the Bernabeu was 13 January 2018, when the Yellow Submarines secured a 1-0 win.

It was Chukwueze’s third goal against Madrid this season — two in La Liga and one in Copa Del Rey.

The Super Eagles forward is the second Villarreal player to score a brace in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid, after Diego Forlán in May 2006.

The defeat is a huge blow to Madrid’s title hopes as they, on 59 points, are now 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, who play Girona on Monday with the opportunity to extend their lead by 15 points.

For Villarreal, they move up to fifth place on 47 points and just four points off fourth spot.

Madrid took the lead in the 16th minute of the game following an own goal by Pau Torres.

However, Chukwueze drew Villarreal level on 39 minutes. He received a pass inside the box, beat Nacho with a body swerve before slotting past Thibaut Courtois.

Meanwhile, three minutes into the second half, Vinicius Junior made it 2-1 to Madrid but Morales equalised for Villarreal on 70 minutes.

In the 80th minute, Chukwueze sealed the win for Villarreal, as he curled the ball from the edge of the box into the far top corner.

Spain international Torres is a priority target for new United manager Erik ten Hag.

It’s suggested talks between the two camps have been ongoing for several weeks.

UCL: Villarreal chief fumes after Liverpool defeat

Villarreal chief Fernando Roig Negueroles was angry at the end of their loss to Liverpool on Tuesday night, sending them out at the Champions League semi-final.

Proud of his team, Negueroles was very emphatic when it came to assessing the performance of the match officials.

“It was an outrageous penalty decision,” Negueroles said. The referee was of no level for this game.

“I don’t see any possible interpretation. The refereeing has been terrible, it has always gone in their favour.

“It’s no excuse, because they were superior and could have won by more, but this refereeing is not up to standard for a time like this.

“There were a lot small actions that have gone in their favour.

“There were three fouls on the edge of the box in the first half, the set piece is very important and we couldn’t get it.

“I’m not too annoyed, I’m proud to get this far, but the refereeing was very bad.”

Villarreal confirm major double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Villarreal have been handed a big double injury blow ahead of their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Liverpool at Anfield tonight.

The Spanish outfit are aiming for another big upset after already knocking out European giants Juventus and Bayern Munich in this season’s competition.

Jurgen Klopp has stressed that the Reds will not underestimate Villarreal in a bid to reach a third Champions League final in five seasons.

However, Unai Emery’s side’s task will be made harder by the absence of Gerard Moreno against Liverpool.

The forward has scored 13 goals in just 26 games for the Yellow Submarine this season.

But Emery has admitted the game comes too soon for the Spain international and he’s ruled out with a hamstring injury.

According to betastic.com, Yeremi Pino will also not feature.

The 19-year-old winger is enjoying a fine campaign for Villarreal, having recorded seven goals and four assists in 40 outings.

However, Pino limped off in the Yellow Submarine’s 2-0 victory over Valencia last week and cannot be involved.

There will also be no Anfield return for Alberto Moreno.

The left-back made 141 appearances for Liverpool between 2014-19 before leaving for Villarreal.

However, he is sidelined for the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL at the start of March.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will only be without Roberto Firmino (ankle) for a third successive game.

Champions League: Real Madrid survive Chelsea’s nightmare

Spanish giants, Real Madrid survived Chelsea’s nightmare as Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze scored to ensure Villarreal eliminated Bayern Munich out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Real Madrid held a 3-1 lead from the first leg of the tie but Chelsea pulled a stunner on the Spanish giants at the Bernabeu with the second leg of the tie ending in a 4:4 draw on aggregate at full time.

Karim Benzema put on a clinic for Los Blancos, displaying a clinical edge in the final third to score all three goals for the visitors at Stamford Bridge but it was Rodrygo who pulled level to give Real Madrid hope in the second leg encounter.

Fifteen minutes into the second leg, Mount, on the edge of the box, latched on to a flick from Werner and dispatched a firm right-footed strike past Courtois. He took a good first touch before burying his effort into the right corner of the net.

Into the second half at 51 minute, Chelsea again pulled the strings as Rudiger directed a pinpoint header past Courtois. Mount swinged a dangerous cross in from the right flank that sailed into the middle. Rudiger attacked the delivery before placing his effort with precision into the bottom-right corner.

However, in the 63rd minute of play, VAR played a huge moment in the tie as Alonso believed that he had fired Chelsea in front after dispatching a strike past Courtois at the second attempt.

However, VAR ruled that he handled the ball after seeing his first strike blocked by Carvajal. There was a slight touch and Madrid got a reprieve.

Meanwhile, in the 75th minute of play, Werner scored to put Chelsea in front of the tie. The German held his composure to bury a low strike into the net. It was Kovacic who released the forward in the inside-left channel and he cut back past the challenge of Carvajal. Werner still had work to do, but his effort clipped off Courtois and spun into the bottom-right corner.

Rodrygo, however, endured that Real Madrid remained in the tournament. The Brazilian guided a first-time strike past Mendy in the 80th minute, but the goal was all about Modric.

The veteran midfielder lifted a sublime cross to the back post with the outside of his right foot. Rodrygo only had to connect with the ball to score and did not disappoint with a deft touch to find the bottom-right corner.

Heading to extra-time after Rodrygo’s goal kept Madrid in the game after a brilliant surge from Chelsea, Benzema scored in the 96th minute of play to put Madrid back in front.

Benzema haunted Chelsea once more by scoring his fourth goal of the tie to put Madrid on course for the semi-finals. Vinicius did well down the left flank and dug out a cross for the Frenchman to attack. He placed his effort away from Mendy into the bottom-left corner with precision.

TNG reports Real Madrid won the game 5:4 on aggregate to join Villarreal that had earlier secured their place in the last four.

Champions League: Chukwueze eliminates Bayern for Villarreal

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze scored to help Villarreal eliminate Bayern Munich out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Villarreal secured a semi final spot in the Champions League in the process.

Villarreal entered the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie with a one goal advantage.

The Spanish side recorded a shock 1-0 win last week. Arnaut Danjuma’s strike was the difference during the first leg.

They maintained discipline to keep the German champions at bay in the second leg tie.

TNG reports it was Bayern Munich that was first to score in the second leg in the 52nd minute of play.

Lewandowski’s first shot of the night found the back of the net, punishing Parejo for a sloppy pass.

The Villarreal midfielder gave possession away, and that allowed Muller to pounce. The German international picked out Lewandowski, and the Pole did the rest, slotting the ball home via the far post.

With the goal, Lewandowski became the fifth player to score against 30 different Champions League teams as he joined Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Raul.

However, Villarreal replied in the 88th minute of play. Parejo’s quick thinking in the middle of the park was vital, as he played a crucial pass before Moreno was picked out.

The Villarreal striker looked across the pitch, and Chukwueze was waiting at the far post. The sub didn’t make a clean connection with the ball, but it was enough to beat Neuer.

Villarreal is now set to face either Benfica or Liverpool in the semi final.

  • La Liga: Barca strike late to snatch win from Villarreal

La Liga: Barca strike late to snatch win from Villarreal

Barcelona struck twice late on to snatch all three points from a spirited Villarreal side in La Liga.

Frenkie De Jong’s close-range finish opened the scoring, but Barca were clinging on after Samuel Chukwueze’s well-taken leveller in the 76th minute.

But Memphis Depay pounced after the Villarreal defence failed to clear a long clearance in the 88th minute.

Substitute Philippe Coutinho slotted an injury-time penalty to make sure of the result and rub salt in the wound.

Barcelona remain seventh in the Spanish top flight despite their first away league win of the season, but are now only three points from the Champions League places and seven off leaders Real Madrid.

The win also continues new manager Xavi’s unbeaten start to his term at the Nou Camp, but there was plenty in the performance to give the former Spain midfielder pause for thought.

Villarreal frequently looked like overrunning his side in the second half with the Arnaut Danjuma and Manu Trigueros speed and movement creating a clutch of chances.

The hosts, who also saw a strong first-half claim for a penalty turned away, were left ruing their own defensive shortcoming through as Colombian Pervis Estupinan allowed Depay in to round the keeper and put his side back in front against the run of play.

Former Tottenham defender Juan Foyth was at fault for the final goal, tripping Coutinho in the box to give away a clear penalty.

  • UCL: Sancho strikes as managerless Man Utd reach last 16

UCL: Sancho strikes as managerless Man Utd reach last 16

Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick dedicated victory over Villarreal to former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United booked their place in the Champions League last 16.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho gave Carrick a win in his first game in temporary charge two days after Solskjaer was sacked.

“It’s not been an easy couple of days for anyone at the club and that result almost feels like it’s for Ole,” said Carrick, a Champions League winner with United as a player in 2008.

“We had a job to do and things needed to be taken care of. I was happy to do it and thankfully it all went to plan.

“When you’ve suffered results-wise and aren’t in good form, individually and as a team, it’s not easy to come out and let everything click – we had to show some character and fight.”

Ronaldo maintained his record of scoring in every game in this season’s competition when he lifted the ball over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli in the 78th minute, after Fred had dispossessed Etienne Capoue.

Sancho then sealed the victory in injury time, blasting a shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

However, United were indebted to goalkeeper David de Gea as he produced two superb one-handed saves, one in each half, to keep out well-struck efforts from Manu Trigueros when it was goalless.

United will progress as group winners with a game to spare after Atalanta could only draw 3-3 with Young Boys in the later game on Tuesday.
