  • Leaked nude video: Actors guild demands arrest of Empress Njamah’s ex-lover

Leaked nude video: Actors guild demands arrest of Empress Njamah’s ex-lover

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has called on the Police to apprehend actress Empress Njamah’s ex-lover, George Wade, who was alleged to have recently leaked a nude video of the actress.

In a statement by the National President of AGN, Emeka Rollas, the guild described the incidence as absolute violation of the right and dignity of Njamah.

Wade was alleged to have released the actress’s nude videos as a form of blackmail.

Rollas said that the guild vehemently condemned the release of the private videos of its member, Njamah on the social media.

According to him, this is an act of blackmail calculated to smear the actress’s image and publicly ridicule her by a man who claims to be her lover.

He noted that this was not only criminal but also evil and unacceptable.

Rollas said: “It is worthy to note that exposing nude videos and photographs of a person, injures her right to privacy is a serious offence.

“Actors Guild of Nigeria stands with Empress Njamah on this and shall provide full support in areas of counselling to help her recover from the psychological and emotional trauma she is currently passing through.

“We have been in forefront of campaign of violence against women and we view the action of this so-called evil lover man as an act targeted at eroding her dignity and self-respect.

“We call on the law enforcement agents to apprehend the culprit and ensure he faces the full wrath of the law for violating the right and dignity of Empress Njamah.

“We urge her fans to give her their full support at this time, she will come through this stronger and better.”

  • Does the Cybercrime Act protect Empress Njamah and other tormented? – By Okoh Aihe

Does the Cybercrime Act protect Empress Njamah and other tormented? – By Okoh Aihe

Those who rail against social media have their reasons. They are aware of the beauty, advantages and even the opportunities the various platforms can confer. But they are more troubled by the scurrilities the platforms can dredge up and splash on the face of a society already reeling from the malfeasance of politicians without conscience. Especially in the season of failing political certification, the plural belief is that the ruling class feels discomforted by social media because members of that privileged class don’t want their sins uncovered.

But sins do have their end-point and their rewards; so no matter how hard our politicians try, the day of reckoning will come, and that is not far away anymore; next month. However, they attract my sympathy because their good intentions are impaired by the disadvantages of failure which their stay in office epitomises.

This material is not about the fears of the politicians but about the travails and triumphs of a certain Empress Njamah, whose spurned lover, George Wade, allegedly splashed her nude pictures all over the social media, with so many people having a voyeur from another’s pain. Thankfully, she is strong and has affirmed her strength in one video I saw as I write this material.

“Love you guys, I’m good. Thank you, guys, for all the love, support, and messages and visits.’ And then from another source, “I’m alive, I came out alive and I’m able to speak out, so many women are hiding under this torture, this torment, last-last, we move. I’m excited about my freedom,” she said defiantly.

I am happy about her strength of character, I am happy about her ability to overcome an orchestrated evil with a smile, boldness and a straight face that has humbled the source of that evil. In situations like this, some people could just flip and keel over, but not Empress. I have followed her career since when her elder brother, John Njamah, was a budding protege to my great friend of blessed memory, Amaka Igwe, and I am happy with what they have become.

I have a weakness for Nollywood, the industry minted by the genius of some determined people. I feel saddened and grateful to those who nurtured the industry with their blood and remain elated by the determination of the living who continue to sustain the industry irrespective of the challenges imposed by the operating environment.

However, my heart goes for the people, those Empress described as “hiding under the torture, the torment.” I believe the law protects them and should enjoy that protection when the evil in the hearts of men comes into the open to disrupt the natural order of life with all its happiness. I am of the opinion that this class of people should seek expert advice on how the law protects them instead of just building up inner strength to wish evil away.

The foregoing thought steered my attention to the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015, which has sections that clearly comfort people that are distressed by the wickedness of other human beings.

Under Cyberstalking, the Act in Section 21, states as follows: Any person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or network that –

    (a) is grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character or causes any such message or matter to be so sent; or

    (b) he knows to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be sent:

commits an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not more than N7,000,000.00 or imprisonment for a term of not more than 3 years or to both such fine and imprisonment.

    (2) Any person who knowingly or intentionally transmits or causes the transmission of any communication through a computer system or network –

    (a) to bully, threaten or harass another person, where such communication places another person in fear of death, violence or bodily harm or to another person.

My little understanding of the highlighted portion is that the law protects the abused from the wickedness of the abuser. One other interesting thing to note is that even those who received the nude pictures in the case of Empress Njamah may not be innocent and could be as guilty as the primary source of the materials.

It is also possible for some of these demented fellows to enjoy the opportunistic  thinking that after sending pictures and all kinds of lurid messages from the phone or computers, one can quickly delete and move on to the next unfortunate target. Not so fast, my dear. The Act in Section 38 ascribes some responsibilities to the service providers, which responsibilities are also captured in the ancillary laws of the telecoms regulator,  the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

For instance, under Records retention and protection of data in Section 38,  a service provider shall keep all traffic data and subscriber information as may be prescribed by the relevant authority for the time being, responsible for the regulation of communication services in Nigeria, for a period of 2 years.

A law enforcement agency may, through its authorized officer, request for the release of any information in respect of subsection (2) (b) of this section and it shall be the duty of the service provider to comply, the Act says.

The service provider now bears the weight of the law where the data is not available or may have been wiped or lost. The Law goes the distance to provide the opportunity for the abused to find some comfort.

Not being a lawyer myself, I had to find validity for my thoughts which I got from the site of AOL (Olisa Agbakoba Chambers). The article titled: Defamation and the Law in Nigeria, which also captured Online Defamation, draws support from The Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015, and states as follows:

“It has been established that when an individual posts something on social media they are acting as publishers and can be sued for making false statements or defamatory comments.

“Online defamation conforms to the same standard of proof as the generally known type of defamation.”

Positing that  a defamatory statement can be of two types, Libel and Slander, I find AOL’s position on Libel interesting and positively congruent with my line of thought.

“The dissemination of a defamatory comment in written or permanent form is referred to as libel. This could be an email, a blog post, a tweet, a text or WhatsApp message, a newspaper article, a television or radio broadcast, a video clip uploaded to the internet, or even a handwritten letter. Libel could be filing a false domestic violence action against a spouse or sexual harassment complaint against a coworker, which could lead to any of the conditions for defamation,” AOL wrote.

I do not know at what point young men and women have to take nude pictures of themselves but I do sense that there are so many young people involved in packaged love nowadays which flies in the face of reality and common sense, but laced with lots of fatal attraction to scandal. Irrespective of extreme love or hate, whoever breaks the Law will have a date in court. Whatever the nationality of George Wade, my submission is that the Law of the land should bring him to common sense in the process of determining his guilt or innocence.

Alleged bribe: APC reacts to viral video of Tinubu, Shettima giving out cash

The All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council on Wednesday reacted to the viral video of its flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima for giving out cash at a town hall meeting.

Tinubu, as part of his campaign schedule, met with the community of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Abuja on Monday, December 19.

In a viral video, the former Lagos governor gifted one of the PWDs minted cash of the new Naira notes at the event.

The video clip went viral and was circulated all over social media with critics and opposition members including Reno Omokri, former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan and Emeka Obasi, media aide to Labour Party presidential candidate, describing it as a brazen act of corruption.

Reacting to the drama, the Deputy Spokesperson of Tinubu/Shettima PCC, Hannatu Musawa, on Wednesday absolved his principal of any wrongdoing.

Musawa cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the matter in a statement titles “Misrepresentation of a harmless video I, Hannatu Musa Musawa, posted of my principals giving alms and charity to a poor and disabled elderly gentleman.”

The statement read, “My attention has been drawn to the dishonest, erroneous and incorrect narrative spun by unctuous, dissipated, debauched and desperate elements within the opposition to turn a perfectly innocent video I posted of a kind act I witnessed my Principals carrying out into something mendacious and devious.

“A few days ago I attended a gathering with the Presidential candidate of the APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Alhaji Kashim Shetima where they had a robust engagement with persons with disability. During the event, our principals had the opportunity to interact with a poor and disabled elderly gentleman. Borne purely out of compassion, my principals spoke to this gentleman, listened to him and performed the tenant of charity and alms giving towards him.

“As I watched this tender moment between the three men, I wanted to capture it and show the world the empathy that organically runs through the veins of my principals, and that raw spirit of charity that they both imbibe.”

While stating the clip wasn’t shared out in error, the legal icon disclosed that she shared the viral video to tell a compassionate and compelling story of leadership as shown by her principals.

Musawa noted that while it is unfortunate that the opposition refuses to issue-based campaign and manifestos, it is clear that they are grasping at straws and adopting extreme methods to stay relevant.

She stated, “I posted the video, not out of mistake, but with the intention of telling the compassionate story of the empathetic leadership that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, supported by Alhaji Kashim Shetima will surely give to Nigeria after they emerge victorious in the upcoming election, by the grace of The Almighty.

“As I watch the negative chronicle being spun by the opposition Svengali’s, trying to enforce a specific negative narrative on the public, it is clear that the falsehood being spread stems from the devious imagination and wicked machinations of a desperate and self combusting opposition.

“I would have dismissed the musings as the rantings of an inconsequential opposition. However, I am compelled to make this response because of innocent Nigerians that may be misled by such devious rhetoric.
“On Monday the 19th December 2022 at approximately 4:48 pm, I watched with appreciation and approbation as my two principals, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shetima performed an act of kindness towards a poor and disabled man who was truly in need. After watching them, I was further convinced that these were two men of precious faith that have the heart of kindness, empathy and compassion. And I believed it was a story that needed to be told.

“In the Bible under Psalm (112:5-9), it is written “It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment. For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever. He will not fear evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”

“In Islam we are taught that The prophet (PBUH) says the following in a hadith: “Muslims help each other only by passing the bridge of almsgiving. Almsgiving by virtue of the two holy teachings, giving charity and alms specifically to help the poor becomes a core tenant for Muslims and Christian to abide by.

“That 2 minute video clip was a visual reflection of my principals compassion towards the needy. Rather than commend Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shetima, for a kind act towards a man that was clearly in need, the opposition have regrettably decided to put a negative spin on a story of good will and sheer kindness.

“With the trajectory of the upcoming election showing that the pendulum is swinging to the benefit of an APC victory, there is no question that the opposition is behaving like the proverbial “drowning man” determined to pull others down with them. And while there is hardly any purpose in joining issues with a losing opposition, it is important to highlight their diversionary rhetoric and tactics.

“Even though I do understand the despondency and misery of the PDP, who have been hit worse than the Titanic racing towards the iceberg with their loss of 5 ‘brightly shining’ governors and the anguish and despair of the Labour party who have a ‘Constitutional Impossibility’ of winning the next election based on Section 134 of The Constitution, it would be advisable for them to remain on the issues while they try to sort out their in-house complications.

“I have thorough confidence that, come February 25th 2023, Nigerians will exercise their constitutional right and resoundingly vote for the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the 17th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I urge Nigerians to disregard any fabrication attached to my video of an act of kindness and compassion, and rather concentrate on collectively working to move our nation forward by making the upcoming voting exercise the freest and fairest elections Nigeria will ever have.”

  • Police haunt for singer Portable after spearheading a mob attack

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is declared wanted by the police over a mob action he spearheaded.

The Nigeria Police Force have ordered that he reports himself or risk be haunted by them.

Portable  landed himself in trouble  when he was seen in a viral video accusing a young man of sending a message to his ‘wife’, asking her to advise him to stay away from his friends for they had no glory.

Portable was seen asking the young man to name his friends whom he accused of having no glory.

Without allowing his victim to say a word, the singer asked his boys to beat the helpless guy.

As they pounced on the victim, Portable was heard in the Yoruba language, saying “e luu pa”, that is, “beat him to death.”

The incident which was said to have happened in a community within  Ogun state has generated reaction from the state police command,

In his reaction, the Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, while describing the act as unbecoming and barbaric, asked the singer to surrender himself or be declared wanted.

He said “The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a video clip circulating on social media, where a popular hip hop musician, Habeeb Okikiola (a.k.a Portable, the Zazu crooner), was seen organizing some youths to beat up a young man and inflict bodily injury on him. The incident was said to have taken place somewhere within Ogun State about two days ago.

“Such unruly and violent behaviour is not only barbaric, but unbecoming of somebody who is supposed to be a role model for the youths and therefore should not be tolerated.

“In view of this, the Command is using this medium to advise Okikiola Habeeb, a.k.a Portable, to report himself at the nearest police station in Ogun State, failure of which his arrest will be ordered.

“The flagrant display of impunity by Portable in the viral video is condemnable and if not checked, it will send a wrong signal to the youths who are looking up to him as a role model.

“Jungle justice has no place in our laws and whoever embarked on it must be made to feel the weight of the law, no matter the status of such person,” Oyeyemi said in a statement on Monday.
